Cas Mudde, a Dutch political scientist and one of Europe’s leading populism scholars, answers Radio Schuman's question of how more and more far-right party chiefs are becoming government leaders in Europe. Last Sunday, Austria’s Freedom Party (FPÖ) became the latest far-right political group to win a national election in Europe. The party now faces a familiar challenge encountered by many of its counterparts across the continent: will it form a coalition with the centre-right Austrian People's Party? Will Herbert Kickl become Austria’s next Chancellor, or will he be sidelined? Political analyst Cas Mudde contends that while far-right prime ministers remain relatively rare, the traditional "cordon sanitaire" — the refusal to collaborate with extremist parties — has effectively been dismantled. Centre-right parties are increasingly willing to partner with the far right, not just to boost their own political power but also to secure more influential roles than they would in alliances with the centre-left. How long the far-right will continue to accept this arrangement? We'll let Mudde explain. Radio Schuman also gives you a quick overview of the Chinese electric vehicle tariff vote among EU member states. What is Germany's political role in this dispute? The result of today's vote could answer this question. Radio Schuman is hosted and produced by Maïa de la Baume, with journalist and production assistant Eleonora Vasques, audio editing by Zacharia Vigneron and music by Alexandre Jas.

The far-right will destroy the EU.

GlenWood Chardonnay Timeless Elegance
This year marks a major milestone for GlenWood Vineyards, as 40 years ago owner Alastair Wood, purchased the land, with a vision to produce world-class Chardonnays. Twenty-four years later his vision is still as bright, as not only has GlenWood earned global recognition, but has become known as the Home of Chardonnay in Franschhoek.
A haven for Chardonnay enthusiasts the current portfolio comprises the Grand Duc Chardonnay 2022, Vigneron’s Selection Chardonnay 2023 and the GlenWood Chardonnay 2024.
Reflecting their noble heritage the Grand Duc Chardonnay 2022 scored 93 points at the 2023 Gilbert & Gaillard International Challenge. Previous vintages were awarded a 5-star rating in the 2022 and 2023 editions of the Platter Wine Guide, 91 points in the Tim Atkins Special Report on South African Wines, as well as a Gold medal at the 2020 Michelangelo Wine Awards. Without a doubt, an investment wine, winemaker, Natasha Pretorius, describes the wine as a yellow straw colour, with rich vanilla and ripe pineapple aromas. The gentle use of oak results in a palate with toasty vanilla notes, carrying through to citrus and marmalade flavour on the aftertaste. Available from the Tasting Room at R740 per bottle.
Cellar Master, DP Burger, who has been at GlenWood for more than 30 years was closely involved when it came to only selecting the best grapes for the Vigneron’s Selection Chardonnay 2023, which is currently available from the Tasting Room at R350 per bottle. A magnificent yellow straw colour with subdued aromas of tropical fruits and vanilla. A creamy palate with prominent citrus flavours and dried orange peel on the aftertaste, results in a full, rich and nutty wine. Truly a handcrafted work of ‘art’ this vintage scored an impressive 92 points at the 2023 Gilbert & Gaillard International Challenge, as well as a 5-star rating in the 2023 Platter Wine Guide for a previous vintage.

I think we should talk about the fact that a Belgian commentator called Lance 'Autistic'. And then he doubled down on it. I don't think a lot of people will speak on it because it's Lance Stroll.
Edit: A French speaking individual said that before the use of ableist slur they also said something along the lines of "there's another Japanese who has trouble containing himself" in regards to Yuki - Credit: @Jesuisunaigle14 on twitter
Relating to the discriminatory prejudices that exist within the F1 community regarding 'aggressive' Asian men in F1 being perpetuated before with drivers such as Kobayashi and now once again with Yuki
Edit 2: Just to clarify the usual Belgian commentator - a man named Gaetan Vigneron - didn't use that language and it was actually a guest named Lionel Froissart who used that language so let's not think badly of the main commentator - who I'm pretty sure tried to intervene - and instead reserve criticism for the actual guy who said it - the guest. Sorry for saying 'Belgian commentator' I realise how that could lead to unnecessary criticism of the usual commentator who didn't use that language.

To Redefine the Experience of Luxury Shopping, Cartier’s London Flagship Store Hosted Talks From Creatives—With an Appearance by Twiggy
The Parisian house's New Bond Street store celebrated its updated features and London legacy with a whirlwind two-day event.

For two days late last month, Cartier’s New Bond Street boutique was bustling with intense activity.
An endless stream of black cars pulled up in front of the newly renovated store nestled inside a historic building in the heart of London’s Mayfair district. Hostesses busily checked digital guest lists, and, upon their approval, the uniformed doorman stepped aside to welcome some of London’s most famous fashion and art-world personalities into the lushly decorated five-story boutique.
Reopened last December, Cartier’s New Bond Street shop is more than just a gleaming flagship store in London. The boutique now offers in-house cultural events with industry figures, and branded experiences that go beyond the standard brick-and-mortar luxury shopping experience. Home to Cartier since 1909, the store is described by Cyrille Vigneron, president and chief executive of Cartier International, as “a strong symbol that is anchored in the past, living in the present, and looking to the future with confidence.”
The transformation of its 7,000 square feet is the work of the Paris-based architect Bruno Moinard, whose task was in part to renovate the interior to resemble a grand English home in order to bring out the “British side of Cartier’s identity.”

The ground floor is dedicated to Cartier’s current collections of jewelry, which greet visitors upon entry. An interior staircase offers a charming alternative to a discreetly concealed elevator for those specially invited up to the high jewelry space on the first floor. There, a selection of Cartier’s most recent creations can be admired in the main salon or under the natural light that floods the lush winter garden in the back. There is also an intimate but equally luxurious “salon bleu”—a discreet meeting room where high jewelry clients can try on pieces in private—which Vigneron chose for his interview with artnet News.
“Before the renovation, the New Bond Street boutique consisted mainly of a ground floor with a boardroom and offices upstairs,” Vigneron said. “We felt it was more interesting to occupy the entire building. Today, the space open to clients has more than doubled. We have different salons for receiving and entertaining clients, including at La Résidence which has, now, a main salon, a bar, and even a boudoir.”

Vigneron was in London to host a series of events aimed at celebrating the British chapter of Cartier’s history and future, of which the new retail spaces are a significant part. Just down the street, the Old Bond Street boutique has also been renovated recently to serve clients looking for a wider range of Cartier products and personalized services. Both boutiques, in tandem, will cater to Cartier’s clients with different needs, through complementary retail experiences.
The extensive makeover of the two boutiques underscores the importance of London for Cartier. Historically, the Parisian jeweler’s London odyssey began in 1902, when the capital city became Cartier’s first international outpost. Jacques Cartier, the grandson of the house’s founder, Louis-François, chose Bond Street as his “temple”—a term used by Cartier to refer to its flagship shops—while his brothers, Louis and Pierre, ran the Paris store and the New York flagship, respectively.
After just two years in London, Cartier obtained its first Royal Warrant of Appointment, making it an official supplier to the Royal court of England, and earned praise from King Edward VII, who famously described the house as “the jeweler of kings and the king of jewelers.” At that time, Cartier had made some of the spectacular tiaras worn to royal coronations. Today, some of the magnificent pieces made for British royals and aristocrats are housed within Cartier’s historic collection.

In later years, the originality and irreverence of London in the Swinging Sixties brought a “British twist” to Cartier’s style, according to Vigneron. “Our Crash model was born here,” he said, of the line of 1967 watches inspired, it is said, by the twisted remains of a Cartier Baignoire Allongée wristwatch that was distorted in a car crash. A new gold version and a diamond-set limited edition of the Crash watch are available today, exclusively at the New Bond Street boutique.
La Résidence, one floor up from the high jewelry floor, is the store’s new VIP space. It features a few historical Cartier pieces, but no current products. In the past year, it has been the venue for many of Cartier’s most exclusive events, including the launch of the house’s Magnitude high-jewelry collection last spring. “Today, the notion of retail and the communication around it have evolved,” Vigneron said. “That is why we have renovated our New Bond Street boutique to be more beautiful, and made it into a place where we can invite our clients on a more intriguing journey of discovery.”
At La Résidence, Cartier hosted a series of talks that debuted with an introduction by Pierre Rainero, Cartier’s style and heritage director, who lauded the inspiring energy of London before lending the stage to a panel of some of the city’s most creative minds, who were invited to share their own insights into life in London.
Caroline Issa with Twiggy and Mary McCartney. © Cartier.
Moderated by Caroline Issa, the chief executive and fashion director of Tank, a culture magazine, the conversations brought an array of perspectives—some unexpected—to the event. The artist and set designer, Es Devlin, known for her extraordinary stage sculptures, spoke about being a “London rebel” and what she considered to be “the rules for rule breakers.” Fashion designers Roksanda Ilincic and Grace Wales Bonner discussed, in style terms, what they considered to be a “true original” or a “classic with a twist.” The model and humanitarian activist Alec Wek spoke about her childhood in London as a war refugee from South Sudan. Even the famous fashion model Twiggy dropped by to reminisce about London as the epicenter of pop culture.
“We are rethinking the notion of the boutique, as a place for entertaining and showing novelties, but also for presenting themes and for putting on exhibitions,” Vigneron said.

At sundown, Cartier held a very British soirée for friends of the house at the trendy Chiltern Firehouse hotel. French champagne and English martinis—shaken not stirred—flowed together throughout the night as guests enjoyed dinner followed by musical performances by Rita Ora, clad in a Cartier-red gown, DJ Marc Ronson, and British singer Grace Carter.
The evening brought to a fitting close the first of two days of engaging conversation and activities, creating the kind of stimulating retail experience that Vigneron hopes will establish a new relationship between Cartier and today’s luxury client.

THURSDAY NIGHT TASTING 6-8PM:
WINE VS. WINE: WHITE BURGUNDY EDITION!
Four Faces of White Burgundy
If you ask any wine geek what has historically been the best wine in the world, they’ll likely say “white Burgundy”. Tonight our friend Nini from David Bowler Wine is in the house to help stretch the boundaries of this historic region, pouring four very different white wines from Burgundy. Typically we think of rich Chardonnay and Aligoté from the Côtes de Beaune, and Domaine Chevrot represents this traditional terroir very well! But people often forget that chaste, mineral Chablis from the North is also part of Burgundy – relative newcomer Patrick Piuze is our man here. And then there’s Beaujolais, generally treated separately, but also part of larger Burgundy. Here we have a light, crisp Beaujolais Blanc, and on the wild side, an earthy, savory Roussanne. Both from the legendary Jean-Paul Brun. There’s a lot of delicious diversity on display at the Lions Club tonight. Come on down to where we’re popping’ the bottles, have a snack, and learn more about these amazing wines!
Let there be WINE, BREAD, CHEESE, and VINYL!
Domaine Chevrot, Comme Dessus Santenay 2015
Maranges is located at the southern-most part of the Côte d’Or, and the Chevrot family has been making wine there since 1830. Pablo and Vincent have maintained the traditions of their parents with only one exception:they are converting the vineyards to certified organic viticulture. The palate of this beautiful, classic white Burgundy is lively and fluid, relentlessly unfolding a fruity ripe lemon mixed with a generous mineral finish. This classic ’15 is ready to drink now and would be perfect with smoked trout or chicken tacos. 100% Chardonnay, organic, biodynamic. $40
Patrick Piuze, Chablis Terroir de Fleys 2017
Piuze has said “the only truly original thing in the world of wine is the underlying terroir and I have nothing else interesting to add."The man makes around twenty different Chablis each year, most of them from very specific vineyards that he’s selected and negotiated to work in. He’s unlike any other producer really. The Fleys is a particular bargain in the line-up. Normally the village level wines are fermented and aged in tank, this vineyard has such great quality, that Piuze treated it like his 1er and Grand Cru vineyards, fermenting and aging the wine entirely in neutral barrels for ten months. It works out – the wine reads like an older 1er Cru. 100% Chardonnay. $40
Jean-Paul Brun, Beaujolais Blanc Chardonnay Terres Dorées 2017
Jean-Paul Brun is located in Charnay, a village in Southern Beaujolais just north of Lyons, in a beautiful area of sandy, limestone-rich clay soils known as the "Region of Golden Stones”. He’s been building up Terres-Dorees since 1979 and we’ve carried a number of his wines over the years. Jean-Paul is not an adherent or advocate of “natural wine” per se, yet is among the most natural of Beaujolais vignerons, uninterested in trend or fashion but deeply committed to purity of expression of fruit and site. The individuality of those expressions--the fact that each is a different wine from all of the others -- is intentionally emphasized by his choice to label every one of his many bottlings with a completely different label. The crisp, mineral Beaujolais Blanc has long been a staple here at Dandelion. Hand-harvested, 100% Chardonnay, 80+ year old vines, Organic $21
Jean-Paul Brun, VDP Roussanne Terres Dorées 2016
Jean-Paul has been making this wine for about 10 years, from vines that are about 15 years old now, planted on the clay-limestone soils typical of his Charnay estate parcels. Roussanne is typically a Rhône grape, and it’s quite surprising to see it growing here in southern Burgundy. Our favorite wine critic Jancis Robinson said this about the wine; “VERY surprising to find this in amongst the Burgundies...”It shows a much different profile under the hand of Jean-Paul, more rustic, with grain-like flavors and a wild, slightly funky nose. Natural-yeast fermentation, aging in stainless steel, and bottled in the spring. Only 5000 bottles made in 2016. 100% Roussanne, Organic $25

🗣️🇫🇷Description du domaine 🗣️🇫🇷

🇬🇧🗣️Description of the domain 🗣️🇬🇧
Maison DEVAUX is at the heart of a family saga that began with the brothers Jules and Auguste Devaux shortly before the middle of the 19th century.
The House was then established and led successively by three women of energy and talent.
The first, Madame Claude-Josephte Devaux, (née Ducray), widowed at 39, founded the Vve A. Devaux House in Épernay in 1846, which she runs with her son François-Auguste.
He married Augusta-Maria Herbin who became Devaux's second widow on the death of her husband in 1879. A character from Champagne, she ran the business until 1895.
The brand quickly became successful. It is an integral part of the worldwide reputation of Champagne wines.
At the end of the 19th century, DEVAUX exported 75% of its production.
It was in 1907, on the death of Charles-Auguste Devaux, that his wife Marguerite Marie-Louise, née Hussenot, took over the reins of the company at the age of 31 and kept them until her death in 1951.
His two sons then take over.
A SHARED PASSION
Champagne DEVAUX is now combined in the plural. Indeed, this family adventure was directly transmitted more than 30 years ago - with a long-term vision - to families of winegrowers.
They came together in a project on a human scale on the model of cooperation associated with a strong demand for quality.
Then last of the name and without heir, Jean-Pol Auguste Devaux entrusts in 1987 to the wine group Union Auboise, the destinies of this brand with a prestigious past and a promising future.
Throughout the year, the Champagne DEVAUX cooperator partners lovingly lead the vines to deliver their best fruits. They deploy their efforts and their know-how to raise the grapes to the level of excellence required by the taste and character of a Grand Champagne.

Braille for a New Digital Age
Though the Blitab looks like other tablet-style devices, its glass at the top is perforated into a grid with holes that allow liquid-based technology to present content in Braille.© Jason Henry for The New York Times
When she was a graduate student in her native Bulgaria about five years ago, Kristina Tsvetanova was once asked to help a blind friend sign up online for a class. Understanding why he could not do so opened her eyes to the lag in technological innovation to benefit blind and visually impaired people.
“The shock that my friend couldn’t perform this simple task stayed with me,” Ms. Tsvetanova said in an interview.
Ms. Tsvetanova, who went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in industrial management and a master’s in engineering, knew that she had stumbled onto an untapped opportunity.
“I realized that there was a gap in the market and a business opportunity in developing technology to provide access to content and services for the blind,” she said. “I am a second-generation entrepreneur, my father taught me to take risks.”
In 2014, Ms. Tsvetanova, who turned 30 last month, moved to Vienna to take advantage of its more sophisticated business culture, where she co-founded the start-up Blitab Technology (a play on the words blind and tablet). She is also the company’s chief executive and has since relocated to San Francisco for proximity to Silicon Valley investors. Later this fall, she plans to introduce Blitab’s debut product, a portable tablet (also called Blitab) designed for blind and visually impaired people.
“Blitab will soon be available for pre-order on our website,” Ms. Tsvetanova said. “We plan to ship by the end of the year.”
Design-wise, Blitab looks like any other tablet-style device. It is slightly thicker than an iPad, but with two separate display fields. On the tablet’s bottom half, a touch screen allows users to select an application or web browse using their voice.
On the top half, the tablet’s glass is perforated into a grid with holes, which allow Blitab’s liquid-based technology to create tactile relief — or “tixels” — that outputs content in the Braille alphabet — the touch-reading system that has been the literacy tool for blind people since 1824. The “smart” liquid alters the surface of the tablet to convert text, maps and graphics into Braille, by creating a rising sensation under the user’s fingertips.
“Blitab can translate any type of content into Braille using our cloud-based software and displays one page of content at a time,” Ms. Tsvetanova said.
Priced at around $500, Blitab could be the improved and affordable alternative to existing portable Braille readers that blind people have long desired.
“With this tool, the blind can surf the net, connect with friends and download books, like everyone else,” she said.

The impact of Blitab on the lives of visually impaired people is potentially enormous.
In 2017, the World Health Organization estimated that there were 253 million people living with vision impairment across the globe, including 36 million blind people and 217 million with moderate to severe vision impairment. Those numbers are expected to triple by 2050.
Existing keyboards for the blind mostly operate via piezoelectric technology, which uses pressure to generate electricity, allowing them to function as a Braille reader. The keyboards are often bulky, limited in functionality and sell for thousands of dollars. There are also portable Braille readers, which have been around for two decades, but typically offer only single-line displays.
“Can you imagine reading Harry Potter one line at a time?” Ms. Tsvetanova said.
“Only 1 percent of published books is available in Braille,” she said. “People with sight loss cannot actually read most books, they can only listen to them being read.”
Braille illiteracy contributes to high unemployment rates for blind and visually impaired people, estimated to be 75 percent in Europe (according to the European Blind Union) and 70 percent in the United States, according to Cornell University’s Disability Statistics. These numbers are even higher on a global scale.
Since Blitab’s founding, Ms. Tsvetanova has been recognized for its potential to change the lives of people with sight loss. She won the Rising Innovator award in 2017 from the European Institute of Innovation and Technology and was recognized in 2017 by MIT Technology Review’s Spanish edition as one of its European Innovators Under 35. Last year, Blitab was among 56 finalists selected from 1,401 entries in the Index: Design to Improve Life, a design competition based in Denmark, which awards about 500,000 euros (about $580,000) in total prize money.
“This tablet will be especially impactful for the life progress of young blind persons,” said Mette Laursen, a former board member of the Index competition.
“Just imagine the first time you used an iPad and the possibilities it opened for you,” Ms. Laursen said. “Blitab can do the same for the blind.”
Ms. Laursen was also a member of the jury of the 2018 Cartier Women’s Initiative Awards, an annual international business plan competition funded by the luxury jeweler that rewards innovative projects by women entrepreneurs. At its awards ceremony in April in Singapore, Ms. Tsvetanova was the top prize winner, or “laureate,” from Europe.
“Cartier’s prize is a springboard to help our laureates secure investment from banks and investors who rely on our due diligence and our assessment that these businesses are viable,” said Cyrille Vigneron, president and chief executive of Cartier.
While she awaits closing on a new round of financing this month, Ms. Tsvetanova is negotiating with a number of American service providers in the telecom and banking sectors to integrate Blitab into their businesses.
“With our technology, a visually impaired employee can review a document unassisted, and a blind client can read a contract before signing it,” Ms. Tsvetanova said.
“Blitab means literacy,” she said. “Reading it yourself is a big step toward independence.”
