Soooo I'm joining this lil self-ship train as my own personal therapy. But I've made an OC bc...i want a challenge and my partner says its good for me. The Canon x OC ship will bc Kiribaku x OC. Basic info about my lil creation below
name: Theron age: 18.5 quirk: Kinetic energy (-when quirk is activated, whenever he moves he can supercharge his strength. so the more he moves the more power his hits have) drawback is the body becoming overly exhausted and once he stops moving his body will collapse. vigilante name: Buzzkill skills: Mix martial arts training (is trained in hand to hand combat), stealth, stealing, analyzing, search n rescue, advanced first aid likes: Ramen, cosplay, reading, ice coffee, messing with people, spicy food Dislikes: people, country music, hospitals, crowded spaces
Its not much and idk what I'll do with the lil guy but, I wanna try things out and maybe you'll like it too. I will say due to it being 'my personal therapy' (and you know I can't live without angst) there will be some 'heavy' stuff if I do ever write anything for my Kiribaku x OC thingy. Anyways Tada~

Thelreads, Vigilantes 18.5, Replies Part 2
1)“Ohhhhh… Midnight, don’t tell me you’re the one that will bring Aizawa to U.A…. Oh, that’s interesting, how did you convince him to join? Also, did you already talked with Present-mic? Did you already recruited him?”- Hell, mic probably gave her all of Aizawa’s details so she could fill out the application forms for him whilst she passed the recommendation along to Nezu. These two would have collaborated flawlessly to get Aizawa the job he was destined to have, but not the one he was motivated enough to apply for himself.
2) “HE DECIDED THAT THE BEST COURSE OF ACTIONS WAS TO FUCK RIGHT OUT OF THERE. “- Aizawa lives the perpetual state of ‘peace out, bitches! I’m gone’ whenever the subjects don’t involve taking down villains or his future student/adopted kids, and especially when they veer towards being creepy towards said kids. An admirable state of being, to be sure.
Basically.
3) “Oh! Oh my god! Don’t tell me this motherfucker decided to enact a suicide attack in this police precinct… the day that around 10 professional heroes are present in a meeting? Oh my god, I almost feel bad for the ass beating that he’s about to get…”-Much like that flasher who tried to enact his long-restrained vengeance against his old company when hawks turned out to be walking up the street behind him, sometimes villains turn out not to have the greatest sense of timing. Granted, with the oversaturation of heroes, you can’t swing a cat in a crowded city without hitting one, but he’s still got sucky luck for putting himself in a position to be dogpiled by several of the ‘top’ heroes in the industry at once.
4) “Oh he certainly has a self-destruct quirk, it’s called “having a fuckton of explosives strapped to your chest”. Now I’m wondering if he would even die with his actual quirk… like, there are so many questions here, I don’t even know where to begin with.”- You could also say his self-destruct quirk was picking the one day the precinct had multiple top-class heroes on premises just waiting for the opportunity to take a troublemaker out with prejudice. Had It been any other hero but Midnight, he’d have been battered to within an inch of his life-though if it hadn’t been midnight, he might have ended up exploding in that case if he got pushed over the edge.
I wonder if he produces the explosives himself- by spitting them out, maybe?- or if his primary means of exploding is using his bomb-head to explode, with the dynamite being there to amplify the blast. Can he reform himself is he’s scattered all over the geography from the blast? Or is it a one-use type of quirk? Does he technically have a healing factor if he can restore himself back from scattered pieces, or does that only affect damage caused by his explosion? Can he accidentally explode if he gets too close to fire or some other source of heat? These, and numerous other questions, will likely never be answered.
5) “Also, Endeavor, you better not be thinking about acting, about using fire against someone holding explosives, alright?”- Actually, I read somewhere that stuff like C4 and plastic explosives or the like won’t even explode if it’s set on fire- it’ll only detonate if the right amount of electrical charge is pushed through it to cause a violent chain reaction. Granted, this guy’s quirk seems to be all about producing the kind of explosives that can be set off with a match, but it’s fascinating the things you find on the internet. Still, just because some explosives are fire-proof doesn’t mean Endeavour should go using his quirk as the catch-all, be-all solution to every villain problem he meets, but he’s a long way away from being ready to accept help from teammates like hawks, and leaving some arrests to those more suited to deal with the situation, rather than trying to grab more glory for himself to one-up All Might.
6) “OH GOD NO, HE SAID THE WRONG WORDS, NOW EVERYBODY’S GOING TO DIE”-
He pushed the Might Button He shouldn’ta did that
7) “ENDEAVOR, I DON’T THINK YOU CAN BURN HIM FASTER THAN HE CAN EXPLODE, ALRIGHT? PUT THE FIRE DOWN AND LET’S JUT TALK, DON’T DO ANYTHING YOU’LL REGRET, OKAY?”- Endeavour is exactly the kind of guy who’d do a game of chicken if it meant proving he was better than those he sees as being above him, the thought of taking his foot off the pedal never once crossing his mind. Granted, this was back before the chapters showing his character development and better points were published, but Endeavour’s behaviour here- and nigh-suicidal disregard for the consequences of his actions in trying to arrest bomber-man himself- show how blinded by his tunnel vision on surpassing All Might he can get.
We see later how he sincerely regrets the harm he caused his family, and the irreparable damage and mental and physical scars he left on everybody, including himself, through his refusal to give up, yet at the current point, this endeavour isn’t anywhere near that level of self-reflection. His goal and the drive he has to achieve it are so all-consuming that when he becomes extra-motivated to doing his job-mainly as a consequence of the rewards getting his closer to his cherished dream- he basically stops thinking coherently and starts acting, almost on instinct, like an angry bakugou sometimes seems to.
We see his thoughtful and intelligent side during the fight with Hood, how he holds back until hawks successfully evacuates the building, before blasting it and hood together in one attack to protect civilians from falling rubble, how he discerns hood’s real weak spot and silently communicates it intentions to hawks to have them both be maneuverer into position for him to blast it with all he’s got in him, and how he caught onto the fact that hood’s appearance was suspicious given the circumstances of their meeting, even if he was ignorant of the behind-the-curtain drama with the league. Hell, he also caught into Stain’s pattern of killing to identify his next move.
Endeavour is a hero with smarts that justify his position as no 2 hero, not just his fighting skills and quirk control, but here and now, his tunnel vision results in him making stupid and sloppy mistakes that force lesser-ranked heroes to make the better judgement call, and ultimately arrest the villain before he gets the chance to. It’s only after he has to move on from his obsession with All Might that Endeavour’s better qualities as a hero get to shine, so in this past narrative with vigilantes, Endeavour’s worst qualities are front and centre, and will remain that way until we catch up to the main plot.
8) “THANK YOU AIZAWA, SOMEONE HAD TO STOP THAT MADMAN FROM KILLING EVERYONE IN THAT BUILDING
AND THE GUY WITH THE BOMB AS WELL, CAN’T LET HIM ESCAPE”-
Aizawa: Stop that lunatic before he kills us all!! Other heroes and police: Rodger!! (turns attention back to the suicide bomber) Aizawa: No, the other Nutjob!!!
9) “JESUS CHRIST ENDEAVOR OPENED A HOLE IN THE FLOOR BY PUNCHING IT. WHAT THE FUCK MAN, I’M RELIVED THAT SOMEONE WAS THERE TO SAVE THE POOR SUICIDE BOMBER”- Presumably Endeavour enhances his punches by propelling them forwards with the force generated from his flames, but he must still have some other dormant enhancement quirks in his genetic makeup, to be able to punch a pothole in solid ground and walk away without even a bruised knuckle to show for it. And when we need to protect the criminals from excessive shows of force by the law, you know something’s gone deeply wrong somewhere in society.
10) “I mean, I know you’re going to use your quirk, but, did you had pretty much flash everyone? Couldn’t you have pulled up your sleeve? also why did you untied your hair? Was it for the fanservice? it was for the fanservice, goddammit…”- Pray she never teaches her hero techniques to the girls of 1A. Momo doesn’t need any more bad learning experiences. And with midnight, it’s either about the fan service, or going to lead to fan service. There are no other options.
11) “That’s one way to put him down, okay… although you could’ve just placed your hand on his face, if you didn’t want to spread too much of the sleeping gas- Why am I even bothering, I should’ve expected fanservice coming”- Generally the safe thing to do with midnight. Though I always kinda get the impression that her quirk generates the gas in greater densities closer to her torso, with limited ‘spray’ effects if she tries venting it through her limbs as a mid-range attacks, so her quirk actually works best by getting in close to the opponent and putting them in a submission hold until the gas fumes quickly take effect. It’s just that Midnight has her own interpretation of what constitutes a ‘submission hold.’
12) “Aaaaaaand we’re back to the creepy comments, although this time it was at least towards an adult rather than a kid.
Meanwhile, Aizawa is so done with this shit, he just wants to go home and pet his 800 cats before Present mic arrives and all peace and quiet is gone forever.”- Aizawa pets cats to calm down after a stressful day, Midnight pets grown men to de-stress them after a long and hard life….yeeeah, not creepy at all…
13) “Is that the fucking cast of Ouran house host club? Oh my fucking god, don’t tell me Midnight employs a squad of teenage boys to do her bidding, oh god where’s the phone I need to call the FBI”- If it makes you feel any better, they probably volunteered specifically to be her sidekicks…. It doesn’t make you feel any better, does it?
14) “It’s a bit late for the mask and whip boys, she’s already done with the work. Not to say she won’t be needing it, the cops back there are here to take her to her cell.”- Actually, it looks like those female cops in the background want to take her away so they can get some pro-tips on expert man-handling, if those blushes are anything to go by.
15) ‘MIDNIGHT PLEASE, HE’S GOING TO BLOW UP LIKE THAT
GOD LORD WOMAN, CALM DOWN’-
Aizawa: Dammit woman! We just managed to keep him from blasting his payload, and you’re getting him ready to explode again already? Learn some timing, for god’s sake! Midnight: Heh. Didn’t take you for the kind of man who was into dirty talk, Shota.
Aizawa:….Goddammit
16) “You know what, I’m almost laughing over how sudden this tone shift was: Midnight mentioned that she was becoming a teacher, then she made some creepy-as-shit comments, then a suicide bomber walked in, then everyone almsot died because endeavor, then KISS KISS FALL IN LOVE, then we’re back at the initial conversation
I wouldn’t be able to pull that many whiplashes in sequence even if I wanted, and believe me, I tried.”- Heroes must deal with so many life-threatening situations and villains, day in and day out, that dealing with them and the crazy situations their quirks can cause must become almost routine for them. For some, this has lead them to threat the job with less seriousness than would be expected from your standard working professional. For others, especially those good at compartmentalising like Aizawa, this leads to them becoming super-serious when on the job, and super-relaxed and chill in the downtime, enjoying the moments of peace between the incessant call of duty. Being a hero in a crazy society with superpowers in the hands of pretty much every living thing on the planet means you’re almost always running around doing heroic deeds, with little time to take a day off and grow your social life, especially if you’re somebody who can’t ignore the cry for help like Yagi.
This means that most heroes’ close friends and social cliques are their fellow heroes, and whenever they do meet up, there’s always a little timer counting down before the next crisis demands their attention, so they have to stop and start conversations about their personal lives and fit them in around their daily jobs. I wouldn’t be surprised if Aizawa in particular has seen more than his fair share of bizarre situations, given his general state of exhaustion and resignation towards putting up with his colleague’s general wackiness on top of the demands of the job.
17) “Yeah, and apparently there isn’t a screening of the people being hired, since you’re there, so it’s pretty easy to get in.”- Of course there’s a screening test. It’s just that said screening goes through Nezu. The same Nezu that loves throwing his students into mazes like rats in a trap, who authorised military-grade technology to be used in training simulations, who allowed a national tournament to happen where students beat each other bloody for the amusement of the nation and where one student even permanently mangled himself to the point of scarring on live TV.
Methinks Nezu needs a bit more oversight on how he handles his school.
18) “Oh you don’t even know it Aizawa… Hilarious how soon you’ll be adopting 30 idiots every single year, and you won’t even notice it. Oh, how funny it is to see you dismissing it as a silly idea, oh how wonderful it is…”-Midnight agrees. That’s why she made sure he took the job he was born for. Who’s laughing now, aizawa?
19) “OH MY GOD
SHE DIDN’T EVEN CARED THAT HE DIDN’T WANT TO, SHE JUST WENT AHEAD AND RECOMMENDED HIM
AND APPARENTLY, SINCE HE WAS ALREADY RECOMMENDED ANYWAY HE PROBABLY JUST ACCEPTED IT”-Surprise twist. Aizawa ended up becoming a teacher, not because he wanted to make a difference with the next generation of heroes, or because the job appealed to his logical nature, but because he couldn’t be arsed to turn the job offer down, aware that Midnight and Present Mic would conspire to keep pushing him towards the job until he eventually took it, so he just gave up the fight before it ever really began. And Midnight even seems to have gone ahead with recommending him as a teacher partially as a ‘screw you’ to him laughing at her thinking he’d be a good idea as a teacher, just to prove to Aizawa that she knows him better than he knows himself.
20) “Also we got to see how Aizawa joined U.A. and it is far from what I expected. HE didn’t volutered or even wanted to, he was just signed on by his friend and probably thought it would be too much of a bother to refuse, so he just rolled with it. “- Rarely does destiny come knocking when we expect it. In Aizawa’s case, destiny came knocking in the form of a spandex-wearing domanatrix in a business suit, but I suppose there are worse ways to get a job offer.

Alright, just like I expected, it was quite fun talk with my therapist about how I made progress with my witting, even if she had to turn it into a session to make me believe that I’m improving on my self-acceptance, like, Jesus calm down, no need to get that deep with it, geez...
Anyway, the week is ending, and we’re going to start another Vigilantes chapter today! An special one in fact, apparently this one is supposed to be the extra that happened waaay back then, and that I said that I was going to read out of the blog but never did... you know, that one; glad that i completely forgot about it... Well, let’s not delay it anymore okay? Time to go back in time, This is Chapter 18.5, or at least that’s how the folder was named, Hero conference
Oh, its going to be about the heroes then... I know that somebody mentioned it long before what the extra was about, but, as usual, I had to delete that file to remember some vine or something, I can’t remember even exactly what was happening when people talked about the extra

Silvertongue - Quirk & Stats
Environmental Thermal Manipulation
Silvertongue has the ability to manipulate the thermal energy of his surroundings, but since he’s only had it for around eight to nine years it isn’t as fully developed as it should be in his age. The temperatures he can achieve as of now are from room temperature to below freezing, as he seems to shy away from heat in general. His range is limited as well, 20 ft / 6 meters, but the closer the person is to him the more the can feel the effects of his quirk.
He doesn’t use his quirk that often as a civilian, mostly because he’s listed as Quirkless, nor does he use it often as a vigilante as he’s objective is to gather information and leave. When needed to, however, his quirk can be used to affect people’s emotional state and when paired with his way of words, he can direct them in a sense.
As an addition to this, he’s also able to generate ice from the thermal energy around him. Unfortunately, Silvertongue has a very limited control over this and avoids using it if he can help it.
Super Moves
Skate Rink - Silvertongue freezes the surface being walked to keep opponents at bay and away from him. He needs to be standing or close to the ground to do this effectively.
Slán agat! - An Irish goodbye; this happens whenever Silvertongue sneaks away from a deal gone wrong without anyone noticing.
Additional Abilities
Sociability / Natural Charm - Not so much an ability, but it’s just something he can’t seem to turn off in his everyday life. Assuming as he is, there’s something about him that most people find themselves being disarmed about or become calm around him. This ‘manifested’ after he returned from Europe with his mother, step-father, and step-sister. Some people originally believed that he had a Calming Quirk because of this.
Information Gathering / Espionage - Silvertongue’s been in the info brokering field since he was 20, as it took him a while before he got to a point where he couldn’t get the information he needed from the authorities or those associated with them. So he’s had some dealings with those who were in the business of selling info.
Keen Intellect / Situational Awareness - Due to his dealings with unsavory company for info brokering, he’s had to really put into practice reading people and his surroundings. His quick assessment of a fight and and how a deal could play out makes him an impressive individual in this regard.
Free Running / Parkour - This is his way of getting exercise, and also being able to scope out his surroundings in advanced before meeting people during his vigilante work.
Stats
Power 2 / 5 Speed 3.5 / 5 Technique 3 / 5 Intelligence 5 / 5 Cooperativeness 5 / 5
Overall 18.5 / 25 ; C

Have you heard of this thing where people are saying, if you're white you shouldn't be allowed to call 911? I've seen a few things about it around but it boils my blood too much to read about it.
Yeah but it’s a little more specific than that, it’s “if you’re white, don’t ever call the police on a black person.” It’s all part of this racebaiting delusion that cops are the KKK running around gunning down hordes of innocent black Americans and a white person calling the police on a black person is basically throwing them to the wolves. CNN’s Marc Lamont Hill perfectly summarizes this trope, “When white people call the police on black people, they are flexing the power to possibly determine whether a black person lives or dies… In making that 911 call, they are expressing an indifference to our safety and well being. To ignore this reality is but another act of white supremacy.”
People like Lamont Hill often spread misleading and fabricated information about police shootings. In 2017 he claimed that “Every 28 hours, an unarmed black person is killed by police.” This stat was trumpeted in the media and BLM and it became a hashtag “#every28hours.” They cited 313 unarmed blacks who were killed not only by police, but also security guards and other “vigilantes” in 2012. Dividing 313 into the number of hours in a year yields 28. However 177 of these “unarmed black persons” were actually armed with firearms. That leaves 136. Others such as Michael Brown were shot after attacking an officer and attempting to steal his gun. Many more of these deaths weren’t the result of shootings at all but accidents such as during car chases. When the hyperbole is removed, the facts present a much more reasonable explanation. Barring a small number of tragic cases, police shootings are rare and usually justified.
Let’s look at the other side now. In 2013 alone, 49,851 officers were assaulted with firearms, knives and other weapons. On average, 50 police officers are murdered in the line of duty every year. These include being shot, stabbed, strangled or beaten. Of the several hundred officers murdered in the past decade, 40 percent of the perpetrators were black, despite blacks representing only 13 percent of the population. Blacks are 18.5 times more likely to shoot and kill a police officer than be killed by an officer himself. Do we call this a black war against the police? Plus black and Hispanic police officers are far more likely to fire a gun at blacks than white officers, so is this a racism thing or are black and Hispanic cops white supremacists too?
Also, police don’t just show up to confront a black person for no reason. You first have to commit a crime. Blacks murdered a thousand more people than any other race in 2013 and in prior years it was actually much worse, again despite making up 13 percent of America. In 2007, the CDC broke out total homicide numbers and rates by age and race. The murder rate among blacks is eight times greater than that of whites. This rate can only be comparable to the homicides seen in some of the most violent third-world nations, no other racial or ethnic group in America comes close. For 15 to 29 -year-olds, the murder rate among blacks is 17 times higher than the rate for whites. Also, black-on-white crime is substantially greater than the reverse. Black-on-white murder is more than double the rate of white-on-black murder. In the other categories of violent crime including rape, robbery and aggravated assault, blacks consistently commit a staggering disproportion of the total, anywhere from 40 percent to 50 percent while making up 13 percent of the population. If we want black people to stop getting into confrontations with the police, it appears the solution isn’t making white people stop calling 911 but lowering the colossal rate of black crime altogether. Unarmed, law abiding blacks face no greater danger when dealing with the police than unarmed, law abiding whites.
One of the biggest problems in the black community is the refusal to talk to and cooperate with the police, even if we’ve witnessed a crime or even murder. The pressure from the community steers us away from the police and all we get for it is even more blood. It appears the blacktivists want to expand this dumb street code onto white people. What better way to bring down the massive black crime rates than stigmatizing and shaming the reporting of black crime. Saying that though, there of course has been a few incidents where a white person has called the police on a black person just to be a spiteful bitch, and that totally deserves condemning regardless of race, but these are remote examples that are being used to push a wider and more radical campaign to stop black people from being reported to the police and it’s eerily similar to the propaganda seen in the UK and Europe where reporting migrants/Muslims is “instant Islamophobia and racism!”

Today in labor history for the week of January 9, 2017
January 09 A Mediation Commission appointed by President Woodrow Wilson finds that “industry’s failure to deal with unions” is the prime reason for labor strife in war industries – 1918
Eighty thousand Chicago construction workers strike – 1922
Southern Tenant Farmers’ Union leads Missouri Highway sit-down of 1,700 families. They had been evicted from their homes so landowners wouldn’t have to share government crop subsidy payments with them – 1939
Former Hawaii Territorial Gov. Ingram Steinbeck opposes statehood for Hawaii, saying left wing unions have an “economic stranglehold” on the islands. Hawaii was to be granted statehood five years later – 1954
The administration of George W. Bush declares federal airport security screeners will not be allowed to unionize so as not to “complicate” the war on terrorism. The decision was challenged and eventually overturned after Bush left office – 2003
January 10 In what is described as the worst industrial disaster in state history, the Pemberton Mill in Lawrence, Mass., collapses, trapping 900 workers, mostly Irish women. More than 100 die, scores more injured in the collapse and ensuing fire. Too much machinery had been crammed into the building – 1860
Wobbly organizer and singer Joe Hill allegedly kills two men during a grocery store hold-up in Utah.
He ultimately is executed by firing squad (His last word was “Fire!”) for the crime despite much speculation that he was framed – 1914
Former AFL-CIO President George Meany dies at age 85. The one-time plumber led the labor federation from the time of the AFL and CIO merger in 1955 until shortly before his death – 1980
The Supreme Court lets stand implementation of North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) despite the lack of an Environmental Impact Statement – 2004
January 11 The IWW-organized “Bread & Roses” textile strike of 32,000 women and children begins in Lawrence, Mass. It lasted 10 weeks and ended in victory. The first millworkers to walk out were Polish women, who, upon collecting their pay, exclaimed that they had been cheated and promptly abandoned their looms – 1912
(Notice in the Minneapolis Labor Review) “Minneapolis Ice Wagon Drivers’ Union will hold an exceptionally interesting meeting Sunday, at 16 South 5th St. A Jazz Band, dancing, boxing and good speaking are among the attractions.” – 1918
Nearly two weeks into a sit-down strike at GM’s Fisher Body Plant No. 2 in Flint, Mich., workers battle
police when they try to prevent the strikers from receiving food deliveries from thousands of supporters on the outside. Sixteen strikers and spectators and 11 police were injured. Most of the strikers were hit by buckshot fired by police riot guns; the police were injured principally by thrown nuts, bolts, door hinges and other auto parts. The incident became known as the “Battle of the Running Bulls” – 1936
National Hockey League owners end a player lockout that had gone for three months and ten days. A key issue was owner insistence on a salary cap, which they won – 1995
Ford Motor Co. announces it will eliminate 35,000 jobs while discontinuing four models and closing five plants – 2002
January 12 Novelist Jack London is born. His classic definition of a scab—someone who would cross a picket line and take a striker’s job: “After God had finished the rattlesnake, the toad, the vampire, He had some awful substance left with which He made a scab. A scab is a two-legged animal with a cork-screw soul, a water-logged brain, a combination backbone of jelly and glue. Where others have hearts, he carries a tumor of rotten principles” – 1876
Seattle Mayor Ole Hanson orders police to raid an open-air mass meeting of shipyard workers in an attempt to prevent a general strike. Workers were brutally beaten. The strike began the following month, with 60,000 workers walking out in solidarity with some 25,000 metal tradesmen – 1919
President Roosevelt creates the National War Labor Board to mediate labor disputes during World War II. Despite the fact that 12 million of the nation’s workers were women—to rise to 18 million by war’s end—the panel consisted entirely of men – 1942
January 13 The original Tompkins Square Riot. As unemployed workers demonstrated in New York’s Tompkins
Square Park, a detachment of mounted police charged into the crowd, beating men, women and children with billy clubs. Declared Abram Duryee, the Commissioner of Police: “It was the most glorious sight I ever saw…” – 1874
Latino citrus workers strike in Covina, Calif. – 1919
(Exact date uncertain) As the nation debates a constitutional amendment to rein in the widespread practice of brutally overworking children in factories and fields, U.S. District Judge G.W. McClintic expresses concern, instead, about child idleness – 1924
January 14 Clinton-era OSHA issues confined spaces standard to prevent more than 50 deaths and 5,000 serious injuries annually for workers who enter confined spaces – 1993
Pennsylvania Superior Court rules bosses can fire workers for being gay – 1995
Some 14,000 General Electric employees strike for two days to protest the company’s mid-contract decision to shift an average of $400 in additional health care co-payments onto each worker – 2003
A 15-month lockout by the Minnesota Orchestra against members of the Twin Cities Musicians’ Union, Local 30-73 ends when the musicians agree to a 15 percent pay cut (management wanted up to 40 percent) and increased health care cost sharing. They did win a revenue-sharing deal based on performance of the Orchestra’s endowments. It was the nation’s longest-running contract dispute for a concert orchestra – 2014
January 15 Wobbly Ralph Chaplin, in Chicago for a demonstration against hunger, completes the writing of the labor
anthem “Solidarity Forever” on this date in 1915. He’d begun writing it in 1914 during a miners’ strike in Huntington, W. Va. The first verse: When the union’s inspiration through the workers’ blood shall run, There can be no power greater anywhere beneath the sun; Yet what force on earth is weaker than the feeble strength of one, But the union makes us strong! – 1915
Seventeen workers in the area die when a large molasses storage tank in Boston’s North End neighborhood bursts, sending a 40-foot wave of molasses surging through the streets at an estimated 35 miles per hour. In all, 21 people died and 150 were injured. The incident is variously known as the Boston Molasses Disaster, the Great Molasses Flood and the Great Boston Molasses Tragedy. Some residents claim that on hot summer days, the area still smells of molasses – 1919
Martin Luther King Jr. born – 1929
(All Labor Has Dignity: Dr. King was every bit as committed to economic justice as he was to ending racial segregation. He fought throughout his life to connect the labor and civil rights movements, envisioning them as twin pillars for social reform. King’s speeches on labor rights and economic justice underscore his relevance for today. They help us imagine King anew: as a human rights leader whose commitment to unions and an end to poverty was a crucial part of his civil rights agenda.)
The CIO miners’ union in the Grass Valley area of California strikes for higher wages, union recognition, and the 8-hour day. The strike was defeated when vigilantes and law enforcement officials expelled 400 miners and their families from the area – 1938
The Pentagon, to this day the largest office building in the world, is dedicated just 16 months after groundbreaking. At times of peak employment 13,000 workers labored on the project – 1943Some 174,000 members of the United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers union (UE) struck General Electric and Westinghouse after the power companies, with record-setting profits, offered just a half-cent per hour increase. After nine weeks, the strike was settled with an 18.5 cents hourly wage improvement – 1946—Compiled and edited by David Prosten

Stay Home. Make Mods. - Week 1 Wrap-up
Week 1 of Stay Home. Make Mods. concluded on Sunday 12th April and I want to say a huge thank you to all the authors - old and new - who shared mods with the community through this period. We had a whopping 273 mods from 216 authors across 48 games. That was less than 25% of the 1206 mods uploaded during the week, so don't forget to add the "Stay Home. Make Mods." tag to your mods to enter them. We saw the biggest collections of entries from Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord (18.5%) and Skyrim Special Edition (17.4%) followed by Fallout 4, Skyrim, Monster Hunter: World and Stardew Valley. It's great to see that mod authors for a wide range of games are getting involved. Highlights Before I reveal the winners, I'd like to showcase some of the mods you may have missed during Week 1 of the event. Xorberax's Cut Through Everyone - Xorberax - Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord
Allows weapons to cut through multiple units, while considering armor and weapon types.
If you've been playing Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord this week, there's a very good chance you're already using this mod. "Cut Through Everyone" was the most popular entry by far, with almost twice as many downloads as the next closest mod. It also racked up over 700 endorsements which shows that the community really love this mod! Ice Wind Spell (U7) - Ebediam - Blade & Sorcery
Unlock a powerful new spell! Summon an icy wind that freezes enemies and slows (or completely stops) their movement. Also you can imbue your weapon!
We're still eagerly awaiting U8 of Blade & Sorcery - which will add new spells and make it much easier to create your own custom ones - but while KospY continues to work his magic with the official release, you should definitely give this spell a try. See if you can find creative ways to combine Ice and Lightning to take down multiple enemies at once! In related news, Blade & Sorcery hit 5 million downloads this month and earned a spot on the Nexus Mods homepage, overtaking Witcher 2. Pandorable's Warrior Women - Pandorable - Skyrim Special Edition
A visual overhaul of Mjoll the Lioness and Uthgerd the Unbroken.
Pandorable delivers another great overhaul to two of the ladies in Skyrim Special Edition and with a mod installer allowing you to select different options, you'll be able to tweak them to suit your own preferences. Simplified Archery - WileCoyote68 - Kingdom Come Deliverance
Brought some existing mods together and modified a couples of other values which i personally used for better experience.
The archery mechanics of Kingdom Come Deliverance were one of my personal pet-peeves - especially coming from being a Skyrim stealth archer - so any mod intended to improve on that is always welcome. WileCoyote68 uploaded a whole bunch of mods during the week so be sure to check out their other work. Moe the Vigilante - Duffhause - The Simpsons: Hit & Run
Play as Moe Syzlak and save Springfield from the mafia who are poisoning Springfield's beer supply with nuclear waste
The Simpsons: Hit & Run has a special significance to me, as it was one of my favourite games on the PlayStation 2 when I was younger. Seeing the first mods for it being shared on Nexus Mods during the event did get me a little excited, especially when it's a fully fleshed out level with custom voiced characters and a new story! Thelreads, Vigilantes 18.5, Replies Part 1
1) “Oh, its going to be about the heroes then…”- Yep, though sadly with a little too much focus on midnight end endeavour, and not enough on the heroes you’d actually prefer to see more of, like Tensei. Aizawa’s secondary focus should be a good consolation prize though.
2) “Oh- oh okay, I think I recall what was going on. It was when the heroes made a parade down the street to beat the shit out of the recently-transformed civilians, right?”-Can’t imagine it sat well with a lot of them, finding out they’d pummelled the hell out of a bunch of innocent victims. We mainly focus on Current-Asshole endeavour’s POV on events and his two cents, but I’d have liked to see the reactions of a few more people to realising they just enforced police brutality- Jeanist and Manuel must have had at least a sad look on their faces at the news. Of course, they are professionals, so they’re not going to let this mistake trip them up again, but they’re also generally an empathetic bunch when the job allows them to be, so that’s gotta sting for them.
3) “OH HEY LOOK, ITS EVEN-MORE-OF-A-BASTARD-THAN-USUAL ENDEAVOR. ALSO QUITE SOME TIME SINCE I LAST SAW YOUR FACE
NOW, WHICH OTHER HERO WILL BE PRESENT FOR THIS MEETING, BECAUSE THOSE WERE SOME UNEXPECTED FACES I SAW AROUND HERE”- At least several future UA teachers as well, which makes me wonder where 13’s hero agency was located, if they’re currently working as a freelance hero before Joining UA. But yeah, at this point, Endeavour’s not had the reality wake-up call that is Kamino ward, as he’s very firmly in asshole territory by this point in the story. In fact, given how the timelines shake out, it could be around this point that the abuse with Rei and Shoto was going on, though it’s unclear yet.
Regardless, Endeavour’s presence here is mainly to show that, whilst the vigilantes have gotten lucky with the heroes they’ve worked alongside thus far, coming to the full attention of the law, and heroes like Endeavour, is still very much not a thing they should do, as there are hardliners who won’t give them the benefit of the doubt and will treat them the same as villains. Pop’s first-aid skills won’t mean jack against the 3rd degree burns Endeavour would give them in the process of taking them down.
4) “Oh boy, we’re going to see endeavor burst into flames today, aren’t we? That dude is just digging himself deeper with each word he says, I’m betting on Endeavor losing his shit. He’s already on the edge of it anyway, just a little push…”- Ironically, despite his explosive temper and the emotion-based connection it has to his flames, the actual explosive threat to the building and the safety of everybody in it comes from elsewhere, though Endeavour is still the metaphorical spark that could ignite the whole mess.
5) “IT WAS TENSEI, I KNEW IT. ALSO MIDNIGHT, I DIDN’T REALIZED IT WAS HER IN THAT OTHER PANEL, NICE TO SEE YOU AS WELL, AND WITHOUT THE WHIP”- In fairness, a business-like getup really does wonders to disguise her well- I literally could not have guessed she was the same person without the handy reminder note- though fear not, the whip is doubtless folded neatly at the bottom of her bag, ready to come out at a moment’s notice. Look, you can even see that her wardrobe is designed with clip buttons to easily come apart and expose her skin- and generous chest- to the world. Midnight’s literally designed her civilians clothing with stripper properties so she can still use her quirk at a moment’s notice- and for no other reason….
6) “Oh, that’s nice, you guys have some images from the event, that resemble soooo much the panels on that chapter… How convenient, I wonder who was taking pictures or recording that.”- What I’m getting is that All Might’s attacks are so hard-core silver age that they literally summon Onomatopoeia to accompany his smashes like comic book lettering.
7) “Yeah see? Didn’t even bat an eye to the fact he beat the snout out of passersby, he is, ironacly, dealing with it in a cold and calculating manner. Endeavor doesn’t care, Endeavor has to go brood over being inferior to All Might and act like a bastard to his family, you know, the usual stuff.”- From his POV, he’s not wrong either. Sure, there were extenuating circumstances, but those people were still using their quirks in a manner that was likely to hurt others around them, which broke the laws, even if they were pushed to it, and they needed to be stopped. Looking at just the facts of events, Endeavour didn’t do the wrong thing here by stopping people who were a danger to themselves and others, and from his perspective he’s certainly irked by the fact that he’s getting rebuked for following the job description of his role as a hero.
He’s unapologetic, precisely because he did what needed to be done to make people safer, not yet at the stage where he starts to realise that it takes more than just solving problems with rapid judgement and swift action to be a hero- it involves having a heart that cares about the well-being of others around him, and at this early stage of his character, the only person endeavour truly cares about is himself- an attitude he’ll later come to regret when he fully processes what it cost him, but not a concern for an endeavour who’s focused 100% on overcoming All Might, failing to realise that every attempt he makes to compare himself to him just drives him further away from becoming the ideal hero a man in his position should be.
8) “Oh boy, here we go, time for Endeavor to lose his shit over the idea that he should identify the threats instead of jumping and punching everyone in front of him.”- well, if somebody’s rampaging around and tossing cars like toys down the main street, threatening violence and collateral damage to civilians, then it is indeed moronic to hold off taking them down until you’ve ascertained whether or not their current situation is something that’s their own fault, or the influence of another person in the shadows. Heroes must deal with hundreds of villain cases over the course of a single year, and that’s not counting the competitive aspect that comes from them trying to kill-steal villains to increase their reputation, necessitating speed over judging the circumstances behind a villain’s appearance.
These trigger cases were one case of the usual snap-judgement backfiring on heroes, but the trigger drug itself isn’t capable of mass production yet, and with increased police interest in it following this mass civilian assault, the trigger ring must further turtle up and slow down production and testing to deflect scrutiny of their shady dealings. Endeavour’s not wrong to ask if the police honestly expect him and all the other heroes to hold back from fighting every villain they see running amok until they’re certain that they’re actually villains or drugged-up civilians, since that could be seen as them being irresponsible to their duty of protecting the public to outside eyes. Plus, Endeavour himself has more personal reasons not to hold back when trying to out-do All Might’s arrest record.
Granted, were he less hot-headed and gung-ho, Endeavour could probably go for submission holds and such to try and non-violently restrain villains if he’s uncertain if they’re genuine villains, but on the other hand, he’s also quite likely not strong enough to do that. Endeavour’s quirk doesn’t increase his strength, beyond letting him use his flames for propulsion, so against strong villains or tough fighters he can’t actually hold back if he wants to take them down- not to mention holding back would slow him down and make him look ineffectual compared to All Might.
All Might’s sheer strength make him restraining others or incapacitating them easy, but for somebody like Endeavour, who has top-class quirk control and usage, but not much else to work with, it’s harder for him to take on the same villains with the effort and care OFA lets All Might exercise mid-fight towards his opponents. Like, we’ve seen what All Might can do when he’s not holding back, so if anything, it must be rare for him to come across opponents he can’t subdue without using his full strength by this point in his career.
9) “Oh, that’s nice. Endeavor would’ve knocked Koichi unconscious with a left hook and dragged him to jail back in chapter 1 if he had seen him moving around with his quirk. Yeah, a black-and-white morality here like we already expected, but, not surprisingly, in the most violent way possible.”- Whereas Phelps seems like the kind of lawman who would be firm and unyielding with Koichi, should he catch him at vigilante work, he’d merely punish him within the limits of the law, arresting him and marking him down with a permanent mark on his record, maybe a few months in juvie hall.
Endeavour, meanwhile, will treat Koichi and the rest with the exact same attitude he treated the nomus with- beating and roasting them until they’re unconscious enough to be dragged in for ‘unlawful activity’, if not dead-perhaps even a bit more forceful than would be necessitated by the scale of the crime. If Phelps would be the inspector Javert to Koichi, Endeavour would be the Judge Dredd- equally firm and unyielding in enforcing the law according to his interpretation of it, but much more willing to enact bodily harm when forcing the ‘criminal’ to comply with his judgement.
10) “Also, nice to know that in order to keep his “ideals” here, Endeavor would be unable to even lift a finger to stop Knuckleduster, since, as he said Villains are those that unlawfully use quirks, and that man has nothing of sorts.”- On the other hand, he might have just roasted Knuckleduster and moved on before he had to chance to verify that knuckleduster was actually quirkless upon seeing him threatening violence against civilians in searching for trigger.
It took Aizawa several minutes of fighting him with his own quirk being uniquely suited to identifying knuckleduster’s quirkless state before he put the pieces together, and ironically, given his later partnership with ‘speed freak’ hero Hawks, Endeavour’s all about speed and efficiency right now. The faster he takes down villains, the more he’ll show up All Might in the process, so he really wouldn’t have given knuckleduster the benefit of proving he was quirkless before vaporising his bandanna, and most of his face with it.
11) “Oh look at that, Endeavor is purposefully ignoring part of the law that doesn’t fit on the way he prefers to act, oh how interesting t- 13, ARE YOU TAKING NOTES RIGHT NOW? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! OH MY GOD”- All Might is not the only UA teacher to take handy notes when at information briefings. Granted, in his case, they were mostly so he could givesaid information out, whereas 13 seems to be jotting down notes on both sides of the argument to make their mind up later on how they’ll conduct themselves with this new information, but it’s a neat touch. Even adults can still learn new things.
12) “Endeavor, can you please stop bitching about All Might for five minutes, please? Good lord man, you’re putting some strain on the AC back there, that is giving its best to keep the room cold while you lose your shit, without even caring about the damn topic of the meeting.”- Endeavour must almost literally burn money when he lets his temper flare up, given how much AC cooling his hero offices must possess to make the temperature pleasant for all his sidekicks and interns. Nobody would want to work in a hero office that’s even more hell-like than regular office work, now would they?
13)“HA, AS EXPECTED OF ALL MIGHT, RIGHT? DON’T WORRY ENDEAVOR, THE INSURANCE WILL COVER THAT BUR HOLE YOU LEFT IN THE CHAIR. AND THE FLOOR. AND THE CEILING… JESUS CHRIST MAN, IF YOU WANT TO BE BETTER THAN HIM, THEN WHY DON’T YOU START BY ACTING LIKE HIM?!”- well, he does try that out a little following kamino, but it doesn’t really work out so well for him, after he made charisma his dump Stat. But yeah, this…probably wasn’t a good showcase of how All Might really felt about the surprise twist that his inherited powers, meant to be wielded for the sake of justice and protecting the innocent, had in fact been used by himself to painfully brutalise those self-same innocents in distressing circumstances.
We’ve seen before how All Might put on a façade around others to appear to be larger than life and the perfect hero, at the cost of extreme personal and mental strain to his well-being. Behind closed doors, he was probably extremely distraught by what he’d done, but he couldn’t let anybody see that side of himself, lest it undermine the faith in the concept of heroics he was literally killing himself to uphold.
14) “And it was Bayonetta, alright. And the formal Bayonetta, not the usual whips-and-chains-and-uncomfortable-comments Bayonetta. A nice change of pace, I’m already enjoying it.”- I certainly hope you savoured the moment, cause it sure as hell didn’t last long. @thelreads
