It's halfway through the year! Got any favorite albums/books/tv shows/whatever to recommend? (Congrats on the marriage btw ❤️)
Hi hi! I've finally remembered to answer this! So I'm terrible at keeping up with New Media so I'll just list some stuff I've been into lately, and mostly keep it to recent-ish things when I can.
Friends at the Table (Podcast) - Forever and always, this show rules. The best RPG Actual Play show, the best podcast, one of my favorite works of ongoing fiction. I fell off when Morv was here but I finally caught up and am current on Palisade, which means I'm now getting to dive back into Twilight Mirage. For you, Bri: Palisade and TM seem to have a lot in common to me. They're both sprawling, ambitious follow-ups to beloved sci-fi seasons, and they both have moments that absolutely knock my fucking socks off. But they're both also kind of inconsistent and took a while to get going imo? Even 50 episodes into both, I find myself tuning out a lot more easily during certain arcs where others have me glued to my headphones. Keeping some of the Partizan characters around has definitely prevented Palisade from dipping too far though, since I think that batch of characters might be my favorite from just about every player. Kalvin Brnine 4ever. For others who might be reading this: Other Actual Play shows have better production value, visual aids, professional voice acting, and might be easier to follow, but all the things that make Friends at the Table kinda hard to get into are the reasons why it rules, actually. It feels less like watching improv, and more like watching a writers' room for a TV show go to work. And that kind of thing is infinitely more interesting to me as a storyteller. I cannot get enough of "behind the scenes" type stuff where you see the process of crafting a story, and to have it be a main aspect of the show itself makes Friends at the Table a treat to watch. I promise you, you will not find cooler world-building or a greater commitment to narrative in any other show in the genre.
Street Fighter 6 (Game, lol) - The best fighting game on the market currently. I've started going to local tournaments and getting to know some of the competitive players in my city, and let me tell you there's nothing like it. It absolutely rules to feel myself get tangibly better at a skill, and not only celebrate it myself, but have other people celebrate with me. Hearing people cheer when I pull off something cool, and hearing them root for me against the better, more established players really dulls the pain when I (frequently) hit road blocks and feel bad about myself. I think fighting games are really cool, but finding your local Fighting Game Community is the absolute best way to experience community in video games and it's not even close.
This Could All Be Different (Novel) - Borrowed this from my beautiful, kind, iconic wife. It's a (seemingly loosely autobiographical) novel about a lesbian immigrant who finds herself struggling to find herself and find community after moving to Milwaukee for a decent (or so it seems) job. It started out kind of slow, and a little rough, but once it got its hooks in me it was in there fucking DEEP. I finished it within like 36 hours of picking it up for the first time, which is extremely rare for me. Maybe it's just been a while since I've read a good-ass novel but the craft with which the protagonist's arc was conveyed really knocked me on my ass in hindsight. We watch her grow, improve, face the consequences of her actions, learn to accept community and unlearn some toxic coping mechanisms, but none of it feels as hokey and contrived as it very easily could be. Her changes are almost never acknowledged by the story or narration, it's just something that happens. Hopeful but not saccharine. The love story is an integral part of both the plot and the characters' arc, but it is so far removed from the Fanfic Trope Zone that seems to have taken over the shelves of every bookstore near me that it should barely even be included in the pitch. Really challenged how I think about family, politics, community, and my own self-image in ways I was absolutely not expecting. Huge fan.
I Saw the TV Glow (Film) - I don't think I have anything to say about this that other people haven't already contributed. I did not Love this movie the way other people did, and it didn't Hit me the way it Hit almost everyone else I know. I was expecting to sob and walked away with dry eyes. But I've thought about it just about every day since I saw it. The tragic core of the film is something I absolutely recognize and find affecting, but I do not Relate to it the way that many others do. Due to how it came about there was basically no Denial phase in my realization of my gender. Well, maybe there was about the specifics, but the notion that I was Not Cis was basically immediately followed by hard conversations and coming out to friends and experimenting with presentation and pronouns and self-concept. I am not exaggerating even a little bit when I say that if I hadn't been too scared by the Creatures, and had watched Buffy, the Vampire Slayer when I was a kid I might have ended up in an extremely similar situation to this film's protagonist. If I had to grapple with identity in that way surrounded by the violently oppressive aspects of patriarchy that I was already victim to in school, I definitely would've buried it in the dirt. In my Letterboxd review I said that I had to talk myself into giving it more than 3 stars. I eventually succeeded, and I'm guessing I'll add more and more to that rating as I rewatch it over the years.
Um anyway that's what I'm thinking about at the moment, and that's what I've got the Brain Space to write up, thank you so much for this ask! It's always fun getting a prompt (even if unintentional) that forces me to put on my Critical Writer cap. And especially thank you for the congratulations, I married my Tumblr Crush and I couldn't be happier :') Thank God for Life is Strange.

Conversations With The Flesh.
Thinking of a conversation with friends and cultural associates, Watson and Pepe Valle at Watson's place. I met Greta Isadora, Pepe's sister, Watson, Juan, Emiliano Tamayo and many other friends at the Philosophy and Letters School, UNAM in México. Years later Emiliano Tamayo and I visited each other in Wisconsin. I had moved to the US, in Madison and he lived part of the year in Milwaukee. In his later years, he was studying Film and Video at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. He died before graduating due to his muscular dystrophy disease. He made some great home movies before even thinking of becoming a filmmaker. Some of us friends had the privilege of sitting in one his chairs, made out of stolen market karts. His ideas were intelligent, aggressive, transgressive, calm, beautiful ends and means. We had to execute his wishes to break the law. Even the straight arrows. He loved adrenaline and Saturday Night Live. His van running an avenue without traffic, speeding. Opening back door and released the grocery Karts on the road while filming. You could see his excitement mixed with the rigor of his life in his beautiful pale blue eyes. He was a proud Puma and was at UNAM's Stadium México 68 across the street every other week, when Pumas played home. His father (who he called El Chapulín in secret) was an economist next door in the UNAM's Economy School. Coyoacán was his home. Near the Alberca Olímpica. His dog was an Akita called Akira. In 2018 and 2019 I wrote a few words and started performances in the streets of Chicago. ¨Dude, where is my Kart?¨ At the end of the day, sometimes I would run the kart against police patrols, cars, or go in the opposite direction of traffic. Waking up in the hospital in the morning. Getting dress and starting my day all over.  Later it became ¨Dude, where is my wheelchair? ¨. Going back to Emiliano, eventually his movement was reduced to a few fingers of his right hand in his final days and the oxygen tank made the communications have a different paste. Our communications became slower. We made more physical stops to get electricity to recharge things like his oxygen machine or his heavy wheelchair (not often.) Sometimes we did that a at a Chicago's VIP gentlemen's club or wherever was necessary. One time he came with friends from México. He traveled with them from Milwaukee to Chicago where I had moved. Cuahutli y David Arcadia (Robocop we called him) entre ellos. We went to Giordano's in Chicago, he really wanted to try their pizza and liked it. At the end of the dinner, the family sitting next door explained they had stayed all day at a cheerleader conference at the Bulls Stadium, leading to the Bulls game that night and gave us their tickers for the event. They explain to us that they were just too tired to make it to game and their cheerleader kids were also tired. I don't remember the game, or the score. I have always been curious if Emiliano knew who won that night or against who we played. Greta and Watson introduced me to Pepe. Pepe, Watson and I were avid readers of literature and philosophy, and I believed we were very vocal atheists at the time. Pepe and I were writers and years later we both became movie directors/visual artists. I haven't seeing Watson for some time. His dream was to marry a person from Argentina. He worked for me briefly in the United States. My father spoke with him in Fitchburg, Wisconsin. The last time we know of him. He had married an Argentinian woman and had a son with her. His plans for Europe were the same. One-time Pepe was arguing with Watson who was convinced that things like fashion magazines and the cheap softcovers-like books were not worthy of study to understand culture. I sided with Pepe for a number of reasons (Vanidades, Reader's Digest, Playboy, El Esto, María, Video Risa, etc…). Fruitful conversation over the years. Pepe and I shared the love for Marquis de Sade, Cioran, Nietzsche, Borges, Cortázar, Adolfo Bioy Casares, Roque Dalton, Carlos Fuentes, Gabriel García Márquez, Thomas De Quincey, and a little Marx, without thinking of a long list. The film references we share might be similar but few. We are bathed in migrant issues along with war stories even though our interests are widely varied. 30 years ago Pepe told me and Watson the story of a Robert De Niro movie just like if it was a professional pitch. I have the images of that movie I have not seeing in my head. Pepe has always been a great story teller. He spoiled it for me, but as my great friend Alexander Radosavljevic, PhD says, you better tell me what's about. What if I never get the chance to see it? Here's a link to ¨El Milagro del Papa¨ del mexicano, Pepe Valle. https://mubi.com/films/the-popes-miracle #love #culture #like #fashion #school #writers #communications #university #video #film #share #economy #electricity #references Luis Sánchez Ramírez. © 2023.

FlamingoPulse's Soft Tumblr Debut (News intros from WVTV Milwaukee, WI)
This is FlamingoPulse. We are currently testing our Tumblr signal in an effort to get viewers tuned in to us on this platform.
For our pre-launch program, we would like to present to you, the news intro history of CW affiliate WVTV Channel 18 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The station has historically been an independent, but has seen plenty of affiliation changes from it's humble beginnings to today. And yes, this is the same station where that internet-famous 80s Autumn graphic came from. You can even buy it as a t-shirt.
youtube
WVTV signed on in 1953 as ABC affiliate WOKY-TV on Channel 19 by their radio parent WOKY (920 AM), but flipped to CBS & changed their call letters to WXIX (now used by a TV station in Cincinnati) in 1955 after the network bought them. You heard that right, WVTV used to be a CBS O&O, albeit short-lived. It moved to channel 18 in 1958 and became an independent a year later after being sold by CBS to Cream City Broadcasting following a brief period of being off the air.
In 1966, Oklahoma-based Gaylord bought WXIX & changed their call letters to WVTV, which they currently use today. Their call letters are loosely based on those of their former sister station in Tampa Bay. As an independent, WVTV was a superstation across Wisconsin & parts of the Midwest, running programs you'd usually find in an independent TV station. Cartoons, sitcoms, entertainment programs, you get the picture. Through the 80s & 90s, they also carried both Milwaukee sports teams, the Brewers (MLB) & Bucks (NBA).
In 1989, WVTV, having been airing news updates under the NewsWatch 18 branding since the late 70s, decided to launch a 9pm newscast, The Nine O'Clock Nightly News featuring anchors Liz Talbot & Duane Gay. This lasted until 1994, when WVTV & WCGV became sister stations and the former decided to ditch the news. At least, until almost a decade later when in 2003, they brought it back going by the WB 18 News under Sinclair's infamous News Central format. This format was ahead of its time, except for their notorious "must-run" stories that plenty have called right-wing propaganda, which Sinclair is known for to this day. That newscast ended in 2006 due to low ratings & budget cuts. However, the News Central format does have a de facto successor, The National Desk, which WVTV airs twice in the morning & night. The only local program on WVTV nowadays is Connect MKE, a public affairs program.
While WVTV has considered a news agreement with one of the existing news departments, unfortunately for them, all the other stations in the Milwaukee market (except WTMJ-TV) already have 9pm newscasts. WISN-TV has 9pm news on their DT2 subchannel, WDJT-TV has their 9pm news on sister station WMLW-TV, and of course, WITI is a Fox affiliate (an O&O once again) and has had 9pm news since the 90s. This means it's very unlikely WVTV will relaunch a 9pm newscast anytime soon, especially if/when NBC dumps their 9pm (10pm ET) timeslot to their affiliates, letting WTMJ-TV to air 9pm news on their main channel.
Our next news open compilation will be Bay News 9, a 24/7 local news channel in Tampa Bay, Florida. Make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel & ring the bell to be notified when that compilation video goes up.

List of largest banks - Wikipedia
They have interest in China and it is dwarfing the China Bank and it is JP Morgan Stanley Dean witter and it is a few people and Ben Arnold have some of it but not much 5% each and that's a lot now son says that's a lot and it is they used to have a little bit more but not much and it's extreme wealth but they can't really use it that much the other one the other 70% are Mac proper and people are going after them all of the other banks on Earth comprise 35% of the market this is a huge Bank company and investment firm in about 90% of our son's money is in their Banks even though we're buying out the subsidiaries they still insist we keep the money there and our son says you can keep the paper but I need the bank account. So our son says like they are goofballs hold on to everything then and we get that. And it is a lot of money and a lot of investments in a lot of people depending on it and we are backing it up and we are infiltrating now they're threatening like madness they're a bunch of idiots like these winners.
*there's a few more things besides banks in the financial institutions which are the investment firms we have the stock markets and they're worth a lot of money not as much people think but they are worth a lot they're probably 10% of the world's wealth which is ridiculous and all they're doing is moving money around but they try and secure it and they can't do it and the max are going bust on it too and we're going to take it over and they think it's foreigners and it's not it's their own people and Dave's computer and we're going to wreck those. So we have to because we have to there's other stuff going on
*it is a matter of timing that this comes to us tobacco alcohol firearms and explosives for construction explosives for holidays and things that explode for demolition we are going to take possession of that due to request for us to control the companies 50% huge huge companies like acme, and huge wine company is huge beer companies almost all of them and mac and Ben know it's macon's Budweiser about 90% And he's holding on to it and then owns Miller, almost all these companies are coming to us right now for some reason they can't keep the company going and we're wondering what it is people trying to tamper their stuff Non-Stop and it's the warlocks doing 15%, no 50% of it and the max are doing 20%, no they're doing about 80%. Yeah they're doing most of it they need a help in their soliciting it in this fashion and think it'll be temporary and we'll lose the whole game they thought it in world war II did not happen it was our son saying it cuz he's watching the movies and videos. But these are big companies corona, Coors, Schlitz, Pabst Blue ribbon, Michelob, old milwaukee, some of the new brands that you see inexpensive Stella Ortiz even Heineken I want 50% deals, and we are going to do it tobacco and we will not go to the Carolinas and they don't want us to now they said too and we're not we're going to send people there though. My son says Jim Carrey and close enough some other people that think they're God Gartj. Is several other people that really no we don't go there but they do want us to take over there's several other things but really tobacco is a dangerous product not really tobacco producers but the world needs it and they call for it and they're addicted without it they turn into assholes they make the vape and they make cigarettes cigars and more and we would be making all that stuff and we can't just hand it off to Mac although he might buy a portion of it in places we don't want to work and he gets that anything she's nephew. Huge huge alcohol companies and Jack Daniels is gigantic it is gigantic do you think these beer companies are big this company is gigantic and rum companies and Morgan company is huge and there's a company that is named rum no our son used to drink it it doesn't recall it is a very fine room it's clear and there's several vodkas sky vodka and Smirnoff giant giant company and boy their vodka needs a lot of help it tastes like crap that son said it too I can't drink it anymore and we're going to fix it. There's about 20 companies that are top level including the beer companies and they're huge Bush beer that's coming to us almost everything but Bud and we're making deals mostly 50%. There's other companies camper companies and more their associated with the automobile company any order chassis and they can't get the chassis and we're supposed to fix it somehow. Chevy and Ford want to sign 10% and we can use that and we're not in the truck division no we are and we'll just expand it rapidly the demand is humongous for a truck chassis humongous there's nothing like it they build semis and we're going to modify them humongous the demand is so far beyond it that not even one more luck more or less as a trucking job anymore the demand is too high and the trucks they're too few they're going to have to build their own trucks and they found their chassis it's not a tractor and it's not a dozer it's from like a trailer it's a certain type of trailer and they're for like tractors and stuff and the steel's right size they're pretty hefty it's for smaller tractors and it's almost configured correctly and it's straight and true for the most part and they're building these monstrous looking trucks like 8 ft wide and almost 50 ft long with huge motors and we'd like to join them but it's not necessary so he says he says we should pick it back it and get the work done and we're going to go ahead so good idea he needs to shower and get some rest and then we're going to push some more rain but a little later
Thor Freya
Olympus
We've had a great evening we're going to thank our father and mother Thor and Freya for their lovely work this is a very stressful time and we're all working together and pulling for you and doing our jobs and getting it done

collaboration spotlight — Story of My Life by Home Free
youtube
Home Free might be marketed as a country band, but their talents are much broader than one genre. Taking on a pure pop song was a great reminder of that for their VIP audiences during the 2014 Sing-Off tour, and afterward in this video. Luckily, Layne was already working on three VoicePlay videos using official tour footage, so why not add a fourth for his new friends?
Details:
title: Story of My Life
original performers: One Direction
written by: Julian Bunetta, Tiziano Ferro, Jamie Scott, "John the Blind" Ryan, & One Direction
arranged by: Home Free
video directed & edited by: Layne Stein
release date: 27 April 2014
My favorite bits:
the gentle arpeggios in the intro section
integrating behind-the-scenes footage from the tour, their "Guilty Pleasures" skit, and events a couple weeks afterward
hearing Chris take the lead way more than he got to during the competition
so many shenanigans — Tim glomping Rob from the wings, Rob sneaking into the Fillies' rehearsal, hotel suite leaping, stupid human tricks with snacks
Tim's extra beefy low note at the end of the second verse
Austin's big old riff leading into the final chorus
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Trivia:
They filmed the actual singing portions of the video in between the afternoon and evening concerts in Milwaukee, WI.
Layne was already working on two VoicePlay music videos — "Love On Top" and "Road Trip" — and a behind-the-scenes documentary with Tony during the tour (in addition to, y'know, performing in the shows). That dude is a workhorse.

Latin hip hop

Edit
Latin hip hop (also known as Latin rap) is hip hop music that is recorded by artists in the United States of Hispanic and Latino descent, along with Spanish-speaking countries in the Caribbean, North America, Central America, South America, and Spain.Latin hip hop
Stylistic originsHip hop
Cultural origins1970s, Bronx, New York City
Typical instrumentsTurntable, synthesizer, DAW, rapping, drum machine, sampler, drums, guitar, bass guitar, piano, beatboxing, vocals
Latino hip hop in the United StatesEdit
Latin rapEdit
In the late 1980s and early 1990s, most Latin rap came from New York and the West Coast of the United States. Due to the heaviest Puerto Rican migration to New York City in the '50s, during the 70s, the birth of hip hop involved Latinos from the Caribbean islands. DJ Kool Herc was from Jamaica. Puerto Rico loved Hip Hop from America. Among the first rappers from the island were TNT, Brewley MC and Vico C. Later generations saw talented MCs, DJs and groups emerge all over the island. And artists from this period include Daddy Yankee, Anuel AA,[1] Big Boy, Bad Bunny, MC Ceja, Noriel, Ozuna, Iann Dior, Ivy Queen, Mexicano, Chezina, Lito y Polaco, and Kool Bob Love.[2]
Mellow Man Ace was the first Latino artist to have a major bilingual single, the 1989 track "Mentirosa". This song went platinum, leading Mellow Man Ace to be described as the "Godfather of Latin rap" and inducted into the Hip Hop Hall of Fame inductee. In 1990, fellow West Coast artist Kid Frost further brought Latinos to the rap forefront with his hit song "La Raza (song)." In 1991, Kid Frost, Mellow Man, A.L.T. and several other Latin rappers formed the rap super group Latin Alliance and released a self-titled album which featured the hit "Lowrider (On the Boulevard)". A.L.T. also scored a hit later that year with his remake of the song Tequila. Cypress Hill, of which Mellow Man Ace was a member before going solo, would become the first Latino rap group to reach platinum status in 1991. The group has since continued to release other Gold and Platinum albums. Ecuadorian born rapper Gerardo received heavy rotation on video and radio for his single "Rico, Suave". While commercially watered-down, his album enjoyed a status of being one of the first mainstream Spanglish CDs on the market. Johnny J was a multi-platinum songwriter, music producer, and rapper who was perhaps best known for his production on Tupac Shakur's albums All Eyez on Me and Me Against the World.[3] He also produced the 1990 single Knockin' Boots for his classmate Candyman's album Ain't No Shame in My Game, which eventually went platinum thanks to the single.[4]
In the mid-1990s, the success of LA's Cypress Hill led to additional Latin hip-hop artists finding label support. Delinquent Habits were a horn-sampling trio that found MTV support for their breakout bilingual single "Tres Delinquentes" in 1996. By the early 2000's, two Mexico-born, United States-raised Latin hip hop acts found success on major labels. LA's Akwid fused banda with hip-hop on hits like "No Hay Manera" while Milwaukee's Kinto Sol told tales of Mexican immigrant life over more minimalist beats. The genre even spawned a bicultural novelty, the Brooklyn-based crew Hip Hop Hoodíos, who fused their dual Jewish and Latino cultures on songs like "Havana Nagila" and "Raza Hoodía."
Latin rap in the East Coast and MiamiEdit
DJ Charlie Chase fused hip-hop with salsa and other music genres. Chase was the DJ for the New York hip-hop group the Cold Crush Brothers, from 1978 and through the '80s. East Coast Latin artists such as the Beatnutsemerged in the early 1990s, with New Jersey native Chino XL earning recognition for his lyricism and equal controversy for his subject matter. In 1992, Mesanjarz of Funk, led by the Spanish/English flow of Mr. Pearl, became the first Spanish rap group signed to a major label (Atlantic Records). In 1994, Platinum Producer and DJ Frankie Cutlass used his own label, Hoody Records, to produce his single “Puerto Rico” which became a classic. In the late 1990s, Puerto Rican rapper Big Punisher became the first Latino solo artist to reach platinum sales for an LP with his debut album Capital Punishment, which included hit song "Still Not a Player".
Southwest and Chicano rapEdit
Latin rap (as well as its subgenre of Chicano rap) has thrived along the West Coast, Southwest and Midwestern states with little promotion due to the large Latino populations of those regions. Jonny Z is considered to be a pioneer of Latin hip-hop, due to him being one of the first Latinos combining Spanglish lyrics with freestyle, salsa, mambo, and regional Mexican banda. He scored four Billboard Hot Dance singles between 1993 and 1997, including one of the greatest Miami bass songs of all time, "Shake Shake (Shake That Culo)". Besides bass music, he also recorded the Chicano anthem "Orale". The Oxford Encyclopedia of Latinos and Latinas in the United States Volume 2, Page 301 states: "A new style of Latina and Latino hip-hop was created in Miami and Texas by the bass rappers DJ Laz and Jonny Z, who mixed Latin styles with bass music".[5]

Check Out The Short Version Video "THE HISTORY AND RISE OF ENERGY DRINKS" Article Release for Brewmasters and Beverage Makers, sponsored by PRO Engineering / Manufacturing Inc. Article Excerpt:“Energy drinks have become ubiquitous in modern society, with a plethora of brands offering different formulas and flavors. These beverages are marketed as a quick way to boost energy and alertness, particularly during moments of fatigue.
While energy drinks may have started out as a niche product, they have since grown to become a multi-billion-dollar industry, with a global market that continues to expand. In this article, we’ll take a closer look at the history and rise of energy drinks, examining the ingredients, marketing strategies, controversies, and future of these popular beverages.
Early History of Energy DrinksEnergy drinks have been around for centuries, in various forms, but the modern energy drink as we know it today was developed in Japan during the 1960s. The first energy drink, called Lipovitan-D, was introduced by the Taisho Pharmaceutical Company in 1962.

He spoiled it for me, but as my great friend Alexander Radosavljevic, PhD says, you better tell me what’s about. What if I never get the chance to see it? Here´s a link to Ël Milagro del Papa¨ del mexicano nacido en El Salvador, Pepe Valle. https://mubi.com/films/the-popes-miracle #love #culture #like #fashion #school #writers #communications #university #video #film #share #economy #electricity #references Luis Sánchez Ramírez. © 2023.
