Little rant I might make a video out of:
Edit: disclaimer I wrote this directly after waking up so it’s very awkwardly paced and hard to read I’m so sorry.
AL-AN is not a good person, now I’ll start this off with saying that I looove his character, especially before the rewrite and this certainly isn’t an attack on anyone, just something I’d like to point out because I think the shift of perspective between both games is fascinating.
If anyone remembers the subnautica fandom before Below zero was even remotely announced, there were certain opinions flying around, people believed the architects to be the grand villain(s) in the bigger picture of the game lore for just how messed up they were, they literally hated those guys for being at fault of the sea emperors suffering and there were even theories going around that they made the kharaa to wipe out all other life around them- but it had went wrong.
But now it’s not like that anymore, no AL‘s previous actions are completely ignored because he showed some remorse for being responsible for the deaths of 7 architects specifically, together with messing up before pretty much an audience of billions, it must’ve been embarrassing- but when he apologizes he specifically only mentions the other architects, because he isn’t sorry for the other things he’s done, clearly. I mean dissecting a fetus is one thing, especially with their goal in mind, DISPLAYING it is another, like that’s just purposely gruesome. Together with all the other dissected experimented on animals in the shelves just hung up like prizes (I know the concept itself is not inhumane, but in this case it just wasn’t necessary.) also research specimen THETA anyone? Yeah we know it didn’t die because of the facility collapsing because there’s no injury displayed on its bones that would suggest that, and that part of the facilities insides also didn’t collapse, they just left it there until it either succumbed to the virus or starved to death, same with the sea emperor but they survived, kept alive by unfinished business for the next couple thousand years. Not to mention who the fuck comes up with a quarantine program that includes semi sentient killer machines and a giant gun made to shoot anything down from atmosphere, there were so many better solutions, I get the warper thing, I mean kill anything that’s infected makes sense, but the gun?? Literally why, if they send a signal through the network that this planet is diseased nobody is going to go there (we know that at that point humans weren’t advanced enough to travel space and they knew that so for who was that even for??) it was completely unnecessary to create a giant weapon in wich even more destructive weapons are stored wich let me get into that real quick because there’s also some implied stuff there, appearently AL was so desperate to get rid of his mistake that he attempted to blow up a doomsday device?? (Which would’ve destroyed most of the solar system in an instant.) In the entry it says it malfunctioned so they must’ve tried to use it, and even if they didn’t why would they have it on them anyways? Including all the other weapons. Also let’s talk about the architects in the little sanctuaries in the first game, it’s implied they stored multiple souls in like one of them, literally cramped up all their data whilst AL stored himself in a big ass sanctuary like idk man that’s kind of an asshole move. And those were just the first game events! (And there’s probably even more there.)
In BZ he can’t really do anything except for talk to robin because he doesn’t have a physical form, so there’s less to go off here but even then it didn’t seem like there were other sanctuaries in BZ for the other architects. and sure, you could make the arguement that architects don’t feel at all connected to their physical forms, wich is true, but don’t you think seeing a dead architects body, an architect from his team, a colleague, would illicit some kind of emotion from him beyond “great, now fetch me their skin.” (/j) even if he doesn’t see the attachment to the vessel, if it’s all that’s left from that time and from the crew, there would still be projected attachment onto it realistically. Also he was smart enough to hide himself from alterra because he guessed they didn’t have good intentions- scraping himself off the grid both physically and on any radars they had (presumably with hallucinations), but wasn’t smart enough to distract the critters running around infront of the sanctuary to idk get the help he needed with the failing sanctuary from the mercury, marg, or the alterrans that genuinely wanted to help instead of being eaten by sharks right infront of it.
Like man I love you but that’s just messed up.
And we know he knows he messed up, that’s why he’s so gloomy and does attempt to apologize at the end but like??? He said he wanted to make amends to his people showing that he still doesn’t care about everybody else he hurt, only those he deems as important, not the over 150 people that died on the aurora or the mercury or the degasi or the sunbeam or the research specimens or even the alterrans he’s indirectly caused death to, it is all his fault but he doesn’t see these people as important because he feels they are below him - sure you could make the arguement that he didn’t know about the ships that crashed, fair point. But seemingly he did if he could sense that alterra was there without even seeing alterrans in the first place, especially because Ryley has made contact with the thermal plant and other architect tech before, so he’d definitely know- especially based on the data robin has of the missing sunbeam and aurora incident on her PDA wich he has canonically said he read through.
And I’ll say it again I love AL, next to Bart he’s probably my favorite subnautica character in the whole game series, but I don’t like the portrayel of him suddenly being completely redeemed or being an inherently good person, he still doesn’t understand empathy or morals (you can be a good person without having those, don’t get me wrong.) and acts like a total idiot whilst victimizing himself, like yes, the other architects on the mission died and it’s his fault, they weren’t stored to keep him company and that’s his fault; neither did they like him, wich is very fair in my opinion. He can’t pull all this crap, disobey orders and get everybody killed and then pull the “but I’m sad about it so that erases everything I’ve done” like oh my god. I like him, but I would also like more content showing all this.
Sorry this was a very long kinda pointless rant and I don’t have any images because my phone which has like a whole folder of these is at home and we’re still stuck in England so it’ll have to do without for now.
TLDR: I want more morally dubious AL please and also he killed a fetus (well pretty much borderline newborn at that point) so he’s going into the fictional child murderer category for me.

Emotional Level Today: Crying over video game cutscenes
I've been playing Palia for a while now - started two years ago, took a break a year ago, restarted my game a few months ago, and just reached the Acceptance Ceremony. (And I am kicking myself for not recording it!!! There's no way to rewatch it!)
Anyway basically, in-game (it's an MMO, with Stardew Valley & Animal Crossing vibes IMO), humans were previously wiped out from the planet due to Flow (wibbly-wobbly magic-wagic stuff) and now for some reason, thousand(s) of years later, humans are remerging! The Majiri (purple/pink-skinned bipedal race who have taken over) are very confused. You wind up in a little village called Kilima and, over the course of the beginning plot, are invited to become an official member of the village by choosing one of the characters as a Shepp - basically a mentor who will help you continue on your path of growth.
I chose Zeki:
Spoiler Alert: His species, Grimalkin, are literally ALIENS who to the planet in between the great human extinction and the Majiri race taking over. They stuck around and FORGOT THEIR WAY HOME TO THEIR PLANET.
Tell me that isn't orange-cat-one-brain-cell energy.
There was also some kind of trade war in the past between Grimalkin and Majiri, and it was decided that Grimalkin don't have the same restrictions concerning Flow that the Majiri have. Flow is seen as 'dangerous' and is not to be messed with - only the Order can use it. (Kinda dystopian, but humanity managed to wipe themselves out with it so also kinda makes sense from a 'lets keep our species alive' standpoint?)
Zeki runs the general store, AND the underground black market, where he sells special furniture, runs a Hot Pot minigame, and traffics in illegal Flow devices and other magic odds-and-ends. There is this whole background of the cartels and illegal trade routes and such, which I'm certain are going to be hugely important to the plot going forward (they just now released the end of the prologue, so there's a TON of game left to explore!).
So, like, he should be this gruff, rude, 'mind your own business kid' kinda guy, right? Running an illegal business and already being suspected of it by the towns magistrate?
Nope. Zeki is a generally nice dude. He regrets getting another village member tangled up in the illegal mess. His inventions, which are to benefit him, would also benefit Majiri kind as a whole. He's funny, charming, not above some jabs and teasing, but overall a swell guy. I LOVE him so much, so I chose him to be my Shepp.
(Which the magistrate looked horrified at! The character designs and modeling in this game are pretty amazing, especially the beautiful cutscenes!)
So today I finished the acceptance quest, and got to have my special Welcome Home cutscene, and I'm kicking myself for not recording because I cried.
It's one of those things where like, yeah, it's just a game, but the characters are well written and interesting and I've spent time with them - getting to this point takes a LOT of in-game time. You've got to work at building relationships. You can't choose a Shepp until you're at a level 4 relationship, and that's weeks of daily chats and gifts and such! Seeing all these characters celebrating my character becoming a permanent part of their village, of their lives - it made me so happy I cried.
I only grabbed a screenshot at the beginning of the scene - my character starting the walk towards the dias where Zeki was waiting for me. The integration of player avatars into cutscenes is really well done too - it feels like you, specifically, are part of the story, not just puppeting a doll through conversations.
I don't know why I'm rambling about this today - I just wanted to share. if you need a community-focused MMO that is FREE (funded through their cosmetic store, which is pricy but SO worth it!!!), I highly recommend it. The whole game gives you a sense of community, belonging, of being seen and valued.
I guess that's just what I really needed this morning.

If anyone ever wants to find out what it feels like to be FERALLY GASLIT, play The Final Scene.
Not only is the first 10 minutes Nancy trying to find help and NO ONE (including and especially the police) believing that her friend was just kidnapped, but also at almost every turn to another person minimizing and dismissing her worry (ie Nick saying they won’t hurt it, or it’s just a prank, the police CONSTANTLY saying that Maya probably wasn’t kidnapped or probably isn’t in any danger, and to go home and rest, and Joseph saying Maya probably isn’t in the building or that she probably didn’t ACTUALLY see those empty pizza boxes and MAYA’S LITERAL FEET MOVING, even the dead owner was out here lying to women and getting away with it all willy nilly)
Other than certain moments with Joseph, all four game characters can be boiled down to people who are too full of themselves to see anyone else’s opinions, fear, or suffering as anything other than an opportunity for them to capitalize on.
Even when they all stand on completely opposing sides of the issues at hand, they ALL find a way to benefit from the kidnapping.
This game has Nancy’s most BEASTLY comebacks, and she spends half of it literally YELLING (depending on what speech blurbs you pick, but I’m always yelling). Her anger is always intensified when no one will listen, which causes people to literally tell her to calm down.
There is so much of what women, or anyone who finds themselves belittled, have to deal with all the time BAKED into the game.

Breath of the Wild Art and Brief Rant About My Favorite Game
Breath of the Wild is seriously my favorite video game of all time. I first played it when I was 11 and to this day nothing has topped it. The exploration, the visuals, the characters-I could go on all day. I know some people weren’t happy with the departure of the traditional Zelda formula, but I personally favor the open world concept and the infinite replay value.
Seriously, this was the game that got me so hooked on video games as a whole. If I hadn’t played this game, I have to wonder if I ever would have gotten as interested in the industry. Years later, I am still a massive botw fan, but I have expanded into so many other genres; all because this one game made me so fascinated with what video games could do.
thank you for coming to my Ted talk (aka insane rambling about the glories of Botw)

A FFXIV Alt Rant
I know, I feel like I'm negative with my posts here if they're text-based on tumblr, but it's nice to be able to just get my thoughts out there.
I find the alt-unfriendliness super frustrating in FFXIV. Before someone comes at me with "BUT YOU CAN LEARN ALL JOBS ON ONE CHARACTER!" I don't care. I don't play the game for multiple jobs/classes. FFXIV combat system is kinda flavorless for me.
I play FFXIV for RP & housing. I used to collect (in World of Warcraft) but I don't bother to do that in FFXIV anymore because nothing is shared with alts, and a lot of it isn't market-sellable, so I can't trade it to a friend then pass it to alts either.
It just is a huge, frustrating thing as someone who really likes having multiple characters with multiple stories.
I have to go through MSQ on every single alt, or buy the skip, which is ridiculous in pricing. I don't know why skips can't apply to multiple alts, and I don't care that my spent money is 'helping the game'. It's a bit ridiculous that I'd need to be looked to to 'fund the game' with microtransactions or waste time on each and every alt to story skip.
Not getting a level skip for alts is fine, but the fact that FFXIV REQUIRES you to go through the MSQ to advance through the game is ridiculous if you have a character on that account that has already before.
I get that I'm a rare type of player, and that the XIV RP community comes across as far more casual/less story based (it's my impression from the wider community. Sorry.) than I am used to, coming from a different game. I like multiple conflicts/plotlines and complexities, and am not into the venue/bar scene.
I love this game, given I've been playing it for years now and have put a lot into it, but I have plenty of complaints like I would any other game, and it feels like bringing up ANY complaint at all, be it things like this or story-based complaints (like the utter RELIANCE on nostalgia/'need to play many previous games to get the references or enjoy this part of it') will toss fanatics who defend the game at every twist and turn and flaw no matter what at me.
I don't know.
It's just a rant, I know nothing's going to change, and I know it will likely be alt-unfriendly forever because "you can have all jobs on one character" which again - does not appeal to me in the slightest.
Sigh...

It's actually fascinating to me how much the "palworld is plagiarism and uses ai" post is going around.
First of all the "AI" game that that studio released seems to be a tongue in cheek criticism of AI artists not having talent (but feel free to give me more info here, I only know what reading the product page for AI: Art Impostor tells me)
Second of all the developer being interested in generative AI for games isn't inherently a sign of plagiarism**- I intend to use generative AI for my games that is trained on MY OWN ART. It's not too different from procedural generation at that point because the algorithm itself (or it's training and fine tuning) becomes the art and you're not plagiarizing from anyone but yourself.
Third of all- knockoff games have existed for-fucking-ever and if it's derivative enough it's not plagiarism. And if you're talking about "plagiarism" of the gameplay since palworld has mechanics from several other genres pretty much copy pasted- I hear you- but no one throws a fit about doomlikes being exactly like other doomlikes, or soulslikes straight up copy pasting souls mechanics without even bothering to come up with an in-universe justification (looking at you, Jedi Fallen Order). I'd argue this is actually more creative than that to turn mechanics from multiple other franchises into a cohesive gameplay experience because putting a mechanic into a totally different game is actually really hard to fine tune into feeling good for the player!
Is a work derivative enough to add something new? Or combine old works in a new and novel way? Palworld definitely seems to combine several known mechanics in a novel and fun way. In the very worst case it's in a grey area.
Also the recent anti-plagiarism mass movement was created to protect small creators from getting bullied out of their due. Who are you trying to protect here? Nintendo? Pokemon was a rip-off of digimon and the jrpg's of that time. You gonna get up in arms about that?
This knee jerk hearing something is indirectly related to AI and assuming everything associated with it is stealing and bad needs to stop.
/endrant
**Also I can't find any direct evidence that they tried to use AI in development! Lots of people expressed interest in generative AI before the techbros hopped on the bandwagon and tried to monetize it as an art-stealing machine. This is not an admission of guilt.

Giving my opinion, about Michael De Santa from GTA 5. So, from my experience, he is shown himself, time and time again as a flaw character.
He is a stuck-up flaw character, that at times his actions were despicable, and with his decisions that he made were unforgivable at times.
But, however, with my key points, of why I think it saves him from getting eliminated, or/loose everything is when he realizes how wrong he was. And he is in fact, aware of himself. I've seen a post on Reddit saying is Michael evil?
So...The full history of his background, is unknown. He did explain what he did, and we can put this into context, that he would willingly take the opportunity, regardless of what consequence, and risk he has. To what he will receive.
The rest of it, like what he said, was "Complicated." But then, with some of the hints inside his big house, there are some hidden family moments, that are not all terrible. But, I'll come back to it, with my reasons once I explain my meanings of it.
Back to Michael, his character boasts around, being selfish, egolistical, and greedy. He puts his safety before himself, than to his friends. He get's carried away, and forgets to fill in the Importance to the people that likes him, such as his family.
In truth, he actually attempted to take out Trevor, because he knows how unstable his friend is, and he was worried that he might harm his family, at some point.
When his plan foiled, he changed his name, and fled the snowy town, to a much sunny area, sitting in a house full of glory, carelessness, and cowardice.
When talking about Michael's character, as being Evil. My answer to that one, is No. While I say "No." I can definitely see why that is coming from.
But, if I were to paint this man in colors, you know when you say, nothing is ever, 'Black and white.' but when you mix it, it turns grey. And if you think about it, his house is mostly while.
The white walls, with a few grey spots, here and there. It turns shadowy, when it becomes night-time.
I think, he fit's around there, in the grey shade. Not too light, not too dark either. *Me realizing something.*-Not to mention, he does occasionally, wear that grey suit. When he does make decisions, he tends to become careless, a lot.
Though, when he thinks about his family, no matter how much drama he dealt with. He never left them. He could have, if he wanted to. But he didn't. His wife screamed at him, insulted him multiple times.
Would cause him to get stressed out, and snap at her. She is not Mrs. Perfect, either. His son, and daughter are very spoiled. They ignore him, mouth talk him, say hurtful things to him, such as "I hate you." Take his money, Jimmy sold his boat, and drugged him.
Then got him into even more trouble. Trample all over him, but despite all of that. By some miracle, he stayed patient with them. And agreed to stay with them. Once they found some family therapy.
When he met Franklin for the first time.... ....When he first introduces himself. Michael gave him a glance, and let him take a seat next to him. When he get's up again, he accepted Franklin right away as a friend, and was about to take him to the beer shop, that's until Jimmy called him up, and interrupted them both.
There had been times, where Michael had shown his loyalty quite a few times to be exact. And again, Franklin, and Trevor-Are more loyal, than what he is. Only Michael, his loyalty changes between taking opportunities, and caring for his family, he's got that mixture when he's fixed on the task.
So, when he comes up to rescue Jimmy, he helped save him from the Yacht. He accepted to save Tracy from that stalker, when she was standing out on the streets, when she was signing contracts. He was surprised about that, even though he's not a good father.
He poorly helps them , when he's mostly absent. However, he did pay attention, to her safety and gave her advice, on how to be more careful, out in a big city.
And told her to make better decisions for herself, for her to stay safe. He gives Franklin life advice, and checks on him when he passes out inside the FIB building in that mission, when you blow it up.
Except, when he forgotten about one team member, who has died when he celebrated, too early. He comes back to Lester, and checks back up on him, and owns up to his mistake, he did years ago, back at North Yankton.
He saves Tracy again, and even Amanda. And he even came swerving back for his family, when they were in a raid by the Merry weather. And while he was fighting back against those men, you see he had all sorts of emotional moments, between the girls.
One of them was Tracy, when she called out for her dad, she was in tears, and crying saying that she does love him. To the part when, Michael get's knocked down, and was at gun point with one grunt. When she was saying "Fuck...Fuck..." in a panicked voice.
Breaking down in tears. For him to call out, and reassure them that "It's going to be alright." Proves that the family doesn't really want him to die.
Then afterwards, he became furious, and upset with the situation.
Over in North Yankton, even though he once planned on getting rid of Trevor, he did say previously before, that he "Doesn't know." how to handle it, once Trevor has arrived.
That once they confronted each other, they weren't afraid of dying, but you can see the emotional connection the two of them have when they refused to shoot each other.
Then over with fresh meat, when Michael get's kidnapped, Franklin comes over to rescue him, before it's too late. And when he get's attacked, Michael shoots a gun man in the head, across the meat hooks, at a far distance and guided him out.
When choosing the ending affects the characters, and the story lines completely. If Franklin goes to kill Trevor, then he is going to go through another wave of deception, and with the fact that Michael agreed to help you.
Made Trevor's friendship stale, broken, and worthless. As he get's backstabbed once again from his first partner and crime, to now somebody, that he liked, and respected. Tossed away twice more than last time. And his trust is shattered.
Then shortly after, this is the part where Michael's character changes drastically, and does lead up into being evil. He becomes paranoid, and distant of Franklin, and shoved his delusions in his face. Which Franklin, ger's confused about, and felt offended with his response.
And Michael will get a phone call from Jimmy, asking him what did he do to Trevor, and when he tells him, Jimmy pauses, and get's stuck with what to say. Because he couldn't believe what his father, has done. And was not sure if he could trust him. Franklin, makes up the story. And that makes this relationship, even more deceiving.
If Franklin chooses to kill Michael, it is still sad. Because, that is the part where he finally get's his life together, he even sounded happy for Tracy to go to college. And he was very happy for her.
When he sees that Franklin is acting very strange, he get's confused with him, and asked "What? What is this?" Then, when he found out, that Franklin came to kill him, he get's this side of hurt. What's heart breaking, is the fact that Michael also thought of him as a son, so that made this scene to sting.
And this, battle between the two of them does not make sense so much. And it is, to be honest disrespectful, for Franklin to do that.
Not only that, even Franklin turns in a direction very coldly, just like how Michael was. Later, when he spoke to Lamar, he was talking in sentences to where he doesn't fully open to say what truly happened.
Michael's family then hates Franklin, and Amanda gives him a message, furious, but also terrified of him saying, that if he comes near her children, she will personally kill him.
And Jimmy will lose his trust in him. Their brotherly relationship is broken. Thus, Franklin becomes a monster.
If Franklin chooses option C. (Best fitting choice for the game.) Then, he'll get to keep both Trevor, and Michael together. And see them build up their friendship, and then also see a big change in Michael. Which I really do want to say this. Michael, the man that usually chooses something else, over his friends.
Really steps himself up, and saves Trevor. He volunteers to take on Stretch, when Franklin was in the middle of deciding if he should take Stretch on.
And lastly, Michael apologizes to Trevor, and say's that he is sorry, and that he admits that he screwed him over. Trevor, after a bit of doubt, accepted his apology.
And Michael just managed to save his friendship, with Trevor's. He does improve to own up to the wrong doings that he done. If he is truly evil, then he would not be doing that, unlike many other evil characters.
Who would just screw over the people they knew, by not owning up to it. That was the thing, that saved him from getting eliminated. He's the character that reminds me of a few other ones, that kind of ranges with their story. I picked these three, just because I know them, and their from the same company.
John Marston, Arthur Morgan. And Dutch Van Der Linde. John, because, at first as it turns out, he didn't feel close to Jack, he didn't want to, once he found out that he wasn't related to him. He probably felt shunned, and embarrassed of the boy.
But then also, because he probably felt some pain, after loosing his daughter, some time ago. So, he probably felt partly unsure, a with his connection. He was rude, and shooed the boy away, but then once after he get's kidnapped he has felt so bad about it. And ashamed.
This is something similar, to when Michael first came into his kids lives, I assumed, he let himself get carried away, and was not really there, for the most of their lives.
Though, we don't know how much of that really was going on, because of how selfish he was. But, then there are the family photos, in his house that shows, otherwise.
It looks like it wasn't so bad. It wasn't all like that. They looked happier, So I think in general, his behaviors weren't good. Yet, you can see that he was trying.
Arthur Morgan, once a cold blooded, ruthless killer that deliberately did things that are unforgivable. If it wasn't for the TB, he did say that it was this wake up call, that got him to change his perception of the world, and the people in his life. Even though, he can't fix it, but he surely redeemed himself, and strife to become a better, and honorable man.
Dutch Van De Linde, was once a respected man, and leader for his group. He was also Arthur's father figure, and teacher, that was in charge of making plans to do what he can to help support the camp, and collect resources to feed them, and keep them safe.
He is very intelligent, and when he chose to switch sides between Arthur, and Micah. Dutch appeared to have a centered mindset for himself, and Arthur, when he saw that happen couldn't believe his very eyes.
And felt disappointed, and disgruntled with his decision. It was not until later, that when Dutch came back to Arthur, he looked at him with his reflection of his dishonorable back turn. No different than that of Big smoke.
This was still sad, because he walked away feeling regret, and knowing he let down Arthur.
In my conclusion, you know he's this character that you are disappointed in, but I don't think it is enough to say, "Oh well...He deserves to die." Especially, coming from these characters. They did, so many things.
Yet, to take into consideration, he is aware of himself, when he admits that "I've done so many things, that I ain't proud of." That line is such a remorseful thing.
Among the other killers, I listed too. Fans love these 2 legends between Arthur, and John. But, when it comes down to Michael, there's another opinion.
This is coming from my opinion, the thing is, that even though this man is a cold blooded killer, that through out his life, he's been trying to make things right.
I don't think he's evil, and he has a duty to protect the family, that he's got. Because, that's the only thing that plays in his part, that keeps him going.
I hope you enjoy reading my full heart, confession about Michael. If I get any details wrong, this is only coming from my gameplay experience.
I just wanted to say, what I believe needed to be said, about his character. With the credit, that I thought about, and brought all together. So, you're welcome.

So I've started playing Fallout 4 yesterday, because of the new series an a recommendation, and I have to say:
It's not so bad.
It has a good worldbuilding, interesting lore, simple gameplay (reminds me a bit of Skyrim lol) and funny and lovable NPCs-
Yet there's one thing that I don't like about the game: The main story. It isn't bad or anything, it just doesn't really catch me.
(SPOILER for the beginning of Fallout 4)
For those who don't know what the game is about, basically, in the year 2077, a nuclear war happened and you, your wife and your newborn son go to a protective bunker and due to a series of events you've been put into a coma and awake 200 years later, in a world of nuclear fallout and apocalypse, with your wife dead and your son abducted by random people.
And now, you obviously head out to find your son. And that's the breaking point to me.
Now, I'm no parent, and I'm not saying the parental instinct to find your child isn't important or valid, but I just can't really relate to that.
If I'd awake in a world like that, my instinct would be to seek shelter, a group of survivors, and just accept the loss and move on. Because of two reasons:
a) you don't know when your son got abducted. For all you know, your son could be 100 years old and dying right now, and the only way you know he's still alive is by some old lady/fortune teller on drugs. Yeah.
b) HOW would you even care for a baby or small child in this world?!Adults barely have enough to live and are in constant danger! I'm still wondering how humanity has survived this long, honestly... Plus the mortality in this world is already skyrocketing, so chances are you'd get your son and he'd die like what, a week later and you're sad again? Why do that???
So I can understand the game is appealing to our parental and human instinct to care for others, but honestly, I just can't really relate to the whole parent situation. A sibling? A spouse? Yeah, I'd look for them in that situation. But a newborn baby is too much of a burden in that situation, and even if they're already older, they probably wouldn't recognize me and it'd just be another heartbreak in the end, worth none of the resources I'd put into it.
I'm not saying it's a bad story, or surrealistic, or irrational. It has its logic and valid points, and it's a good story altogether I think.
But it's just not my type of story.
The game's still good though.

Lilith Walther being forced to scrub the Bloodborne branding off Bloodborne Kart is extremely petty and pathetic of Sony. Lilith has been doing much more with the Bloodborne IP than Sony and Fromsoftware ever have. Lilith Walther doesn’t deserve this.

Honestly I hate when people refer to the subnautica critters (especially leviathans) as monsters, they’re aliens, sure, but the game makes an effort to tell you they’re not these monstrous destructive creatures to be killed as a sort of accomplishment but simply a part of an alien ecosystem, they’re just supposed to be animals. Carnivores. They hunt to survive, they’re not evil they’re just following instincts. Wich sure, is terrifying from the point of view of a human, but doesn’t make them monsters.
Monster implies something that’s supposed to be inherently evil, something that’s supposed to be scary and has no proper place in nature, this doesn’t apply to animals in a made up alien ecosystem that are intended to fill the role of a predator, because in that scenario all they are supposed to be at the end of the day is an animal, not a monster. they may look big and scary but they’re really just big dumb fish. Subnautica wasn’t intended to be scary initially, wich I think says out enough about what the devs were trying to do with the leviathans in and of itself.
Eh I just don’t like it, but I don’t like alot of things about how people, especially streamers and YouTubers interpret this game.

I beat Syberia - The World Before the other night. It's a beautiful game with a soundtrack that roots you in the world and draws you up and down with each emotional trough and crest of the story.
But some of the strongest emotions it created in me were directed at Olivia. Spoilers:
I want to talk about the phone call with Olivia in the middle of the game. Kate, conflicted and guilty and hurting, offered an olive branch to her old best friend by finally calling home. And Olivia took this opportunity…to berate her relentlessly. At best, this is a counterproductive thing to do with ANY prodigal friend or family member, whether their issue is drugs or a cult or chasing woolly mammoths across the Eurasian steppe. And we can't blame the bad reaction solely on Kate cold-calling late at night, because Olivia continued with this same shitty tone when Kate called again later.
Years earlier, Olivia helped ensure Kate felt unmoored from her ties to New York by stealing Kate's fiancé. It's admirable that Olivia cared for Kate's mother when she was ill, but Kate had no idea that was happening. She was incommunicado. Which was her prerogative, as an adult who didn't have a fiancé or dependents to be accountable to.
Olivia knew that Kate didn't find out about her own mother's illness or death for months after it was too late, because Nick Cantin informed her when he finally got that letter into the ILLEGAL SALT MINE where Kate was being WORKED TO DEATH by a mafia. Where her only friend (lover?) DIED.
Holy shit, Olivia, is that not punishment enough for everything? Kate's mom is already dead and buried; Kate is traumatized by illegal imprisonment and slavery; she was mourning her mom and Katyusha and Oscar; and she's wanted by the law at home. I doubt she even has her passport anymore, so there's no getting home without getting heavily scrutinized by authorities. Why the rush to get her on a plane at that point? Why the rush to pile on the guilt?
I'm not saying that working odd jobs under the table and wandering Europe and Asia on an extremely expired visa is a good life choice. Especially now that Kate is aware that her mother's estate needs to be dealt with. But it truly has nothing to do with Olivia. As the lifelong best friend and the fiancé, she and Dan should be the closest thing Kate has to family at home, but...well. (I'm not saying she and Dan should have waited forever if they truly belonged together, but they didn't exactly try, and even correct actions have consequences.)
Kate's parent falling ill unbeknownst to her was a risk of going incommunicado; the death without seeing her again a consequence of her choices and the choices of her captors. Separately, she owes Olivia for taking care of her mother, but that doesn't justify ripping into Kate on the phone. She didn't even tell Kate that Cantin was still after her, the poor bastard.
After all that, I do think it was terrible for Kate to tell Olivia she was coming home, only to immediately run off to Baltayar. But such is our beloved interpersonal disaster, Kate Walker. I'm sure she'll pay for that, too.

I hate online service only games.
Like, most MMOs use this feature and that’s fine. But what I hate about it is that after a game has served it’s purpose, or the company can’t keep it up and running, or the creator just up and decides they don’t want to work in the game anymore; that’s it. The game’s gone. Poof! It can’t be recovered because it ran on a server, and that server’s shut down and there’s no physical hard copy to recover it from.
It’s insane and it’s awful. So much blood, sweat, and tears go into the creation of these games and now they’re gone.
Anyone remember playing Neosaurs on Facebook? Probably not, but god I loved that quirky Maplestory ripoff game about dinosaurs. Can’t hardly find any images for that game, much less content related to it.
Same goes for mobile app games. I miss playing Tiny Deathstar. I miss a lot of online only games.
