Floral Chapter 2 - Victuuri Regency AU
Chapter 2 has been taking waaaaaaay to long and I haven't updated mh writing for even longer. So here, have a piece of Chapter early!
. . .
Distance was a subject with which Victor Nikiforov had familiarized himself intimately over the years. He would often write home to his relations that it was a side effect of being an adventurous creature. This wasn’t at all a lie. In his travels he’d been acquainted with many such people and found them altogether very distant in both mind and matter. However, despite the implication of this sentiment disclosed in his writings Victor was not, in fact, an adventurous creature. He was a fearful one.
He often imagined himself to be a kindred spirit to the stag. They were proud animals: regal, imposing, graceful, lustful. Symbols of potency, strength and leadership. Victor fancied himself all of these things. Yet stags were still, at the core, deer. They were prey, as timid and as wary as any doe might be. The young Nikiforov heir had no illusions about the truth of those traits and their applicability to his own character.
Distance was a tool he used - an effective tool if years of survival and general contentment were any indication. Just as the great, beastly stags in the Russian wilderness kept long paces between themselves and a hunter, Victor measured his distance from all those who might harm him with equal care. The potential for such hurt created a long list, one Victor filled with the names of all persons to whom he associated. All but one.
Yuuri Katsuki, Victor spelled his name on blank parchment for what seemed like the thousandth time. Somehow it was never quite right; the stroke of his hand could not form letters that might do his lover justice. No matter, Victor tried again: My Dearest Yuuri Katsuki, My Darling Yuuri Katsuki, My Sweet Yuuri Katsuki. None rang true enough to that overflowing emotion which Victor felt for him. Victor tried again, again, and again. Each time he failed once more, crumpling the offending paper in his hand, marking his palms and fingers with unsightly stains of ink.
“Don’t frown so, cousin,” Mila said to him. The young woman had come to visit him at the family's Parisian residence. She had brought along her brother and sworn up and down that it was so that she might relieve herself of the ache Victor’s absence left in her heart. Victor suspected her fondness of Paris and resulting eagerness to expose her brother - an austere, unhappy young fellow who went by Yuri - to its culture was a more pressing motivation. “It leaves me in terrible pain to see my handsome cousin ruin himself so with an ugly frown.”
“Your concern is touching. Truly.” Victor’s brow creased as he refocused his attention onto the dissatisfying address he’d managed to put together. “I shall take it under advisement.”
“What is it that could make you frown, I wonder,” Yuri said, entirely unsympathetic.
Turning in his chair, resting his arm over the ornate backing of the furniture, Victor could see his young cousins draping themselves lazily on his sofas. Mila lay on her back, arms stretched above her head like one of the grecian models from Mr. Giacometti's collection of classical paintings. Yuri, equally as comfortable but possessing far less grace, sat upside down. His legs rested where one’s back should be, and his head dangled where one’s feet should be. The word childish came to mind but at 15-years of age Yuri was expected to conduct himself in such ways to some extent. He was at the precipice of childhood, staring into the chasm of manhood. Victor had behaved no differently at that tender age. He could not expect Yuri to greet the dark pit of adult decorum with enthusiasm when he had spent so long clinging to youthful freedoms himself.
There was a trust between Victor and the Plisetsky-Babicheva siblings. It had been established long ago when Yuri was nothing but a toddling babe and Mila a child. Victor had been about Yuri’s age and the children had seen him as an all-knowing beacon of wisdom. He described to them parties they could not attend, drinks they could not yet sip, conversations they found themselves ushered away from. As such, Victor longed to answer Yuri’s interest honestly - as he had so many years prior - but found himself unable to.
The Plisetsky-Babicheva siblings were a centerpiece of the Nikiforov family. The passing of their fathers - first Mr. Babicheva and then their mother's second husband, Mr. Plisetsky - and their mother’s resulting grief had made life difficult for the young family. Mila, Yuri and their broken-hearted mother found themselves in the care of Victor’s and their own mutual grandfather. With such a tragic start to their lives and their status as the youngest children in the Nikiforov family’s many branches, they found themselves cherished. Doted on, if you will. With such close emotional proximity to the family Victor had to take caution with the details of his life he shared. The image of a stag came to him once more; even with all the love he bore them, these two were still a reluctant threat. The nature of his feelings for Yuuri Katsuki would not be a detail he shared today.
“When I was in England for the season I made a connection with one Yuuri Katsuki of Japan,” Victor said. “He was in the midst of studying medicine of the western variety at Oxford. He’s brilliant and a sparkling conversationalist; I enjoyed our little exchanges.”
“This Mr. Katsuki--” Mila began, before she was quickly corrected by her eldest cousin  on the status of the man in question. “Dr. Katsuki sounds like an impressive gentleman. Is he committed?”
One could only hope so. There were no ties - legal or social - to bind one man to another in any broadly recognized fashion. But emotion and physicality was an entirely different bond. Victor felt these bonds now. They prickled at his skin, made him itch with anxieties and joys in equal measure. The scent of fresh grass, the rhythm of poetry, the whisper of sensation where flesh once touched flesh, these were the things that bound Victor willingly to Yuuri. They were the feelings he wished his love to reciprocate.
With that Victor knew exactly what to write.
“Dr. Katsuki has a very eager prospect who has made their intentions towards him known,” Victor answered with a practiced smile. He turned back towards his writing, the chair legs rattling against the wood flooring as he shuffled closer to his desk. “I have already thrown my support behind this match and wished luck to the would-be partner. I’ll not have you wooing Dr. Katsuki away.”
Yuri Plisetsky laughed - a laugh more jovial than Victor had heard from him in weeks - at the lady’s rejection. “Don’t frown so, sister. It pains me to see my pretty sister ruin herself with so ugly a frown”
“Yurochka,” she sighed, swinging his legs over the edge of her cushioned perch and standing. “Please do be quiet.”

Jenrose (@jenroses)
Jenrose is really passionate about LGBTQIA politics, diplomacy, and real-world issues, which is apparent in their writing. It's really refreshing and interesting to read stories focused on these details. Something else really refreshing is their writing style, which is spartan yet adequately descriptive and to the point. It forces the readers to use their imagination more.
Translations on Ice (Series, 10 works)
Lost in Translations Rating: Explicit -- Words: 10.3k -- Status: Complete -- Summary: Victor Nikiforov was the best jumper in the world, well-used to leaping blind and landing clean in ways no one could match. Falling was for other people. Stumbling was not acceptable. It had been a long time since the wind had been knocked out of him so thoroughly. (The start of "what comes after" the canon series.)
Translations Over Distance Rating: Gen -- Words: 10.9k -- Status: Complete -- Summary: Yuuri really wants to surprise Victor for his birthday, but there's a bit of a scheduling issue.
Translations: Initiations Rating: Explicit -- Words: 8.2k -- Status: Complete -- Summary: Someone REALLY wanted Yuuri back in Japan after the gala performance at the Russian Nationals.
Translations: Elongations Rating: Explicit -- Words: 36.6k -- Status: WIP -- Summary: Yuuri and Victor come back to Japan to a flurry of media and sponsorship offers, in time for the Japan on Ice exhibition.
Translations: Terminations and Transitions Rating: Explicit -- Words: 54.0k -- Status: Complete -- Summary: Moving is always a little strange. Moving to a possibly hostile country while training hard and preparing for a wedding in less than three weeks? Might not be the best idea they've ever had, but it's better than the alternatives.
Transition: Puberty Rating: Teen -- Words: 15.5k -- Status: Complete -- Summary: Yuri Plisetsky hits puberty. Puberty hits back.
Transition: The Leap Rating: Teen -- Words: 41.9k -- Status: Complete -- Summary: Our crew goes to Ostrava for the European Championships. Nothing quite goes as planned.
Transitions: Landings Rating: Mature -- Words: 10.4k -- Status: Ongoing -- Summary: After the European Championships, the whole crew returns to Japan to prepare for 4CC and for Yuri to have surgery.
Transition: Coming Out Rating: Gen -- Words: 6.0k -- Status: Complete -- Summary: It's January of 2018, our crew is in New York for publicity, and the Olympic team list for Russia just came out. Victor's name isn't on it, despite a decisive win at Russian Nationals. If there's anything that pisses Yuri Plisetsky off more than losing, it's not having a chance to beat his rivals on the ice. And if there's anything worse than his mentor retiring, it's his mentor being snubbed by the Russian Figure Skating Federation. He's spent too much time fighting to get back on his feet to take this lying down.
Transition: Questioning Rating: Explicit -- Words: 21.1k -- Status: Complete -- Summary: Mila has been struggling with the move to Hasetsu. Sara has been struggling with her brother. Things come to a head after 2018 Worlds. ❀❀❀❀❀  Words: 204.3k Status: Work In Progress Relationship: Katsuki Yuuri/Victor Nikiforov Tags: (Mostly) Canon compliant; Except homophobia exists; Post season 1; LGBTQ+ advocacy ❀❀❀❀❀  Review: The series focuses a lot on Yuuri and Victor navigating their relationship within the current political climate in regards to homosexuality. Situations dealt with include performing their pairs exhibition skate at the Russian Nationals, the resulting storm that follows, the many sponsorship deals that follows as a result (for pro-homosexuality despite that not being their intent), figuring out where and when to get married considering their skating season and the political climate, and figuring out where they can live without having to deal with violence but still be able to effectively train. It’s a really, really well-done series, and I’m so happy to see these topics get handled. There’s an appropriate amount of sappiness, romance, and sex between Yuuri and Victor as well, and lots of love and support from their friends, family, and coaches. My personal favorite stories would probably have to be: Translations Over Distance, which deals with Yuuri trying to surprise Victor for his birthday at Nationals; Translations: Initiations, which has a lot of sweet romantic lovemaking on a plane for Victor’s birthday; and, Translations: Terminations and Transitions, which deals with Victor and Yuuri moving to Russia, planning for a wedding, getting married, and then determining if Russia is still the place they want to live. You are greatly missing out if you haven’t read this series, so go do so!

jinlian (@jinlian)
jinlian has written several Victuuri oneshots, all filled with sweet, warm devotion. They tease each other, they cook early morning breakfasts for each other, they discuss tattoos, they work through miscommunication issues with open honesty. My favorite fic of hers, take me higher, is the angstiest it gets, with some sad Victor backstory and miscommunication hurdles that get worked through, and by the end they're closer for it. If you need a little pick-me-up, definitely check out her fics.
take me higher
Rating: Teen Words: 13.8k Status: Complete Relationship: Katsuki Yuuri/Victor Nikiforov Tags: Canon compliant; Post-season 1; Victor backstory ❀❀❀❀❀  Summary: Victor stares at Yuuri. He wonders if he looks as confused as he feels; and he already looks at least a bit of a mess with his hair mussed from how he’d carefully styled it, his costume twisted and his jacket unzipped. Yuuri stares back. They’re both trying to find something in each other’s faces, searching and asking without words until one of them provides the answer. “What,” Victor finally demands, “does winning have to do with our getting married?” ❀❀❀❀❀  Review: "We’ll get married after he wins gold." What if Victor's intention behind the phrase was different than Yuuri's interpretation? I really appreciate jinlian's more melancholic, less idealistic interpretation of what occurred at the end of the series. Her Victor is continuing to skate only due of Yuuri's request - he's tired and ready to move on to the next transition in his life (coaching and marriage). There is a carry-over of miscommunication from the series between Vcitor and Yuuri that they eventually resolve. The scenes between the two of them when they finally clear the air are really beautiful and heartwarming in their honesty and affection. I love stories that have moments when the two have open heart-to-hearts, and this story delivers some of the best. I also really appreciate her writing a Victor who's ready to move on to the next chapter of his life. The sudden desire to return to competitive skating felt a little out of left field during the last two episodes of the anime, opposite of what felt like episodes 1-10 were building up to (Victor gaining purpose and inspiration through coaching Yuuri and having his life and love revolve around that). I don't think it's an unrealistic way to take his character arc, but the rest of the series did a poor job of foreshadowing that outcome - enough that it makes me question whether Victor actually wants to return to the ice or if he's just doing it for Yuuri. This story goes with that interpretation. Overall, a really heartfelt fix-the-miscommunication fic.

I’m not sure if I made it on time or if this is late but here is my YOI fandom appreciation post!! In the short time I’ve been here people have been nothing but kind to me and have always made me feel welcome.
I’ve also been having a pretty shit couple of days but with everyone tagging me in their appreciation and good things in life finally coming up I feel so much better today, in part because of this fandom.
I’ll start with probably my newest best friend Marti, @venenix, witout whom I wouldn’t have even half as many of my headcanons. From the moment we started screaming at each other in all caps and S P A C E S I knew we were gonna be friends. Whether it’s me sinning, you cheering me up, or both of us losing our shit over Vichris/Vichrisuuri, my day isn’t complete if I haven’t talked to you. I love you, Marti, mio stellina, mio girasolle.
Of course, I also have to special mention Lea, @otasucc, for being an absolute doll. You’re kind, funny, and always have an ear for me when I rant about fuckbois TM or Our Boys (you know
the entire YOI cast). You’re gorgeous and I can’t wait to get drunk with you <3
Next up, my emo in not disguise, Noelle @otabaeee, without whomst my life would be much less bright. You were one of the first people I talked to in this fandom and I couldn’t be more grateful that you responded with kindness and enthusiasm, without you I wouldn’t know half of the people I know now. You rock, I love you, stay emo bitch. Oh, and when are you and me and Lea getting white girl wasted TM?
I’m pretty sure this day was meant specifically meant for content creators so let’s start that appreciation with Maria, @angryskatinghedgehog, you
wonderful human person. I have the best time when you tease me with snippets and an even better time when I get to read a finished chapter. I know you don’t believe it but you’re a REALLY GOOD WRITER TM and I’m going to continue to support and love you forever. Thank you for ranting with me about whatever and being my friend <3
Read Behind Closed Doors, an Otapliroy Uni AU with feelings and porn and Yuri being the Best TM, here.
**
I know that there are a ton of you who also create content and I’d love to link everyone to everything but there just isn’t the time and I’m sorry. I’m also really terrible at paying attention to who does what so I’d be afraid I wouldn’t be able to correctly pinpoint which amazing mutual did which amazing thing, you know?
But a special shout out to:
@baramini, @crescendotayuri, @altin-s, @otapocalypse, and @1pen1knife for being the best children a mother could ask for. I hope you all get the love and happiness you guys deserve <3 I love you all so much it’s not even funny.
further shout out to @gutgemacht and @onotherflights and @novocaine-sea for being silly and lovely and indulging me and my whims. Michaela, you keep doing you and I’ll keep crushing from a distance. Marie, thansk for not judging me over my spitting kink and for writing about it in the first place. Aja, no one supports my unpopular opinions like you and I love you for it (and our Kacchako talks which have nothing to do with YOI so be).
I of course also have to give my love and appreciation to the following people who are awesome and amazing even if we’ve never talked, only talked once, or talk sporadically. I think of you all as Valued Mutuals TM and pals at the very very least (so like
 more than that):
@aftgonice, @faeyuri, @severeminx, @altisetsky, @plishooksky, @yurochkas, @kymbawee, @penciltrash @gia-comeatme, @phaytesworld, @iamatrashfan, @tootsonnewts, @eclair, @ellipsesarefun and the lovely lovely @meimagino who has saved me from SNK spoilers more than once.
You guys are truly all the very best and my dash woulnd’t be the same without you.
**
Last but not least I’d like to shout out some content creators that have made some of my FAVORITE things.
@iruutciv - you probably now know me as that girl who shouted about your gifs in the tags. twice. I know you already know how i feel about those gifs but I just wanted to let you know that I also appreciate your other art and the amount of time and energy you put into everything you do. Thank you for creating such lovely things <3
@zephyrine-gale - you gave us the crop top trend AND the Victuuri fusion, two things for which I will forever be grateful. Thank you for bringing both into the world and for everything you do for the fandom <3
@kawaiilo-ren - I feel like there isn’t a YOI blog out there that hasn’t at least heard of your Mafia AU and I think that’s amazing. You’re an incredible artist and a super cool person. I hope your creativity and ideas keep going strong <3
@natsubutart - I just recently stumbled accross your YOI Lovechild art but ;I think it’s incredible and I’m so glad you had this idea and have kept with it. Not only is it an awesome concept but there’s also clearly a ton of thought and love behind it. I hope you keep up with it and I can’t wait to read all of it!! <3
@creemsicaal - Your art style is one of my absolute favorites. Every time I see it I just
feel better?? I honestly don’t know how to describe it but I love it and I hope you keep making more <3
@superspicy - I really love your art style so much!!! I have to tell you, me and a friend of mine always crack up when we see our comic about Otabek looking through Yuri’s baby pictures. The amount of times a day we make that pose, you know the one, is ridiculous. Thank you for bring this thing into my life, it quite honestly is one of the things that I can look at and always be happy <3
**
Sorry this got so long but I wanted to make sure I got everyone and I’m sure I still missed someone and if I did I’m so sorry, I promise I still love and appreciate you <3

Yuri on Ice Anniversary
Today is the one year anniversary of this amazing show. Being the otaku that I am, I'm going to make a post about it. I first heard of the show when Dan and Phil mentioned it in a video. At the time, I had no idea what it was but I assumed it was an anime. A week later my friend mentioned the show and recommended it to me. She's the one who got me into anime in the first place so I trust her judgment when it comes to anime and manga. That night, I got home and start watching it. It was on its tenthe pisode by then, so I was way behind. I started watching and immediately fell in love. During the first episode, I thought that it would just be another sports anime. But it was so much more. As it continued, I started getting really invested in the plot line and in the characters. I laughed when they made jokes, gasped when they had the romantic moments, and overall really loved it. I asked my friend when the episodes came out and she told me Wednesday. When the next episode came out, I was so excited to watch it. The cliffhanger at the end really threw me for a loop. When the series ended, I felt like part of me was missing. This show is just so amazing. When they made Victuuri canon, I was amazed. This was the first anime I had ever seen where the main character was canonly gay and it wasn't the focus of the story. The focus was how Yuuri's anxiety and depression made him doubt himself and distance himself from his friends and family. It's about how he learns to let people into his life and realize that they truly care for him. Yuuri eventually does get a love interest and it just happens to be Viktor. Gender doesn't mean anything to them. It's about their love and how they support each other. Yuri on Ice has done amazing things. It's shown queer characters and mental illness. Now, I'm not saying this is the first show to do this. I'm sure there are others, I just don't know of them. But this is the first show that's gained so much popularity with these main themes in recent years. Yuri on Ice may be over, but the fandom and the creators are helping it live on.

Kou’un no Rihatsushi-inspired au for Victuuri, where Viktor is Tsukasa, and Yuuri is Nachi.
At 18, Katsuki Yuuri sometimes likes to help out at his parents’ barber shop. He mostly just works the cash register since he doesn’t have his license yet to cut hair professionally, but sometimes his parents or sister will let him practice on them or on family friends.
One day, Yuuri is helping close up the shop, and as he’s taking out the trash, he notices someone sitting near the curb outside.
This someone has long, unkempt silver hair tied in a messy ponytail, and has a backpack lying on the floor next to them as they stare off into the distance, a cup of cold coffee sitting, forgotten, next to them.
Worried that there might be something wrong, Yuuri approaches them, and almost chokes when he gets a good look at the person.
He’s 22, probably a uni student, and is absolutely fucking gorgeous.
It’s kinda hard to see though, with bangs that hide his stunning blue eyes, and a curtain of hair hiding his beautiful face.
After talking with him for a while, Yuuri finds out that his name is Viktor Nikiforov, and he’s absolutely miserable. He hates his uni major, has no friends in this strange country, and has the biggest, most hopeless crush  on someone who won’t even look his way because of how horribly unkempt he is.
Yuuri, taking pity on the guy, invites him into the shop for a makeover.
Fast forward an hour or two later, and Viktor’s long locks have been cut short and neat, and his bangs have been trimmed so he can finally see properly. His greasy silver hair has been washed and dried by gentle hands, until it’s soft and silky.
He's absolutely stunned when he sees himself in the mirror afterwards, hardly daring to believe that it’s his own face he’s seeing.
And when he tries to give Yuuri money for the haircut, overflowing with gratitude and looking for a way to properly thank him, Yuuri refuses, sheepishly admitting that he’s technically not allowed to cut hair for money because he doesn’t have his license.
Viktor reluctantly let’s it go for the moment.
After that day, Viktor’s life takes a complete 180.
He drops out of uni and auditions for a supporting role in a movie. But the moment the casting director lays eyes on him, the man decides that he absolutely must have Viktor for the leading role.
After that, everything just snowballs, and so fast forward to three years later, and Viktor Nikiforov has become a household name. He even has a regular role in a massively popular tv drama.
But no matter how popular he gets, Viktor never forgets the young man who had given him this bright and shining new future, the young man who had showed up in his time of greatest need, and completely turned his life around.
When Viktor isn’t on set or at some publicized event, he goes back to that little barbershop where it all started, and he helps out by doing odd jobs - in order to pay back the favor.
Yuuri, who has earned his license by now and has even taken over the shop so that his parents can retire, keeps telling him that it’s okay and that there’s nothing to repay, but Viktor won’t have any of that.
(Mostly because the reason he insists on helping out around the shop actually has nothing to do with repaying Yuuri for the haircut, and instead has everything to do with Viktor’s absolutely hopeless crush on the young barber.)

38. “You fainted
straight into my arms. You know, if you wanted my attention you didn’t have to go to such extremes.” victurri.
more reluctant betrothal au? more reluctant betrothal au.
[ send me a # & a ship ] [ all my victuuri fic ] [ my ko-fi ]
“Yuuri? Yuuri.”
The ground is cold and hard beneath him as Yuuri tries to open his eyes. He doesn’t remember where he is, or how he got there, but that voice—that’s Victor. Yuuri would know it anywhere, like it or not.
“Victor?”
There’s a sudden rushing exhale from somewhere nearby, a blur of words that are too hushed and too quick for Yuuri to catch.
“Where am I?” He pushes a hand over his eyes; his glasses are missing. “What happened?”
“You fainted,” Victor explains as Yuuri’s conscious mind comes back to him. He’s on the floor, but he’s propped up, supported by something warm and firm and—and breathing. “Straight into my arms.”
Yuuri works his eyes open as much as he can manage and finds the dimness of the palace hallways, and Victor. He’s close, almost as close as he could possibly be. As close as he’s been since they first met so many weeks ago, a tangle of limbs and adrenaline on a sidewalk. The hallway is lit by low burning gas lamps, and Yuuri can hardly see his face apart from a shine in his eyes.
There’s relief, and a playfulness, when he speaks.
“You know, if you wanted my attention you didn’t have to go to such extremes.”
And just like that, Yuuri’s daze splinters and he’s pushing away in a panic, stumbling backwards until his palms catch against the marble. There’s a drag to his movements, and a wave of exhaustion nearly flattens him against the floor again.
“I didn’t—” Yuuri protests, trying his best to stand and swaying precariously. His legs feel weak, trembling like a baby doe’s, and he presses his shoulder into the wall before he collapses again. It seems his sleeplessness has finally caught up with him.
“Yuuri?” Victor’s voice is different—more strained, more worried. He stands up as well, but he keeps his distance. “Are you okay?” His voice is cautious, careful, like Yuuri is some kind of, some kind of spooked animal. Yuuri grits his teeth.
“I’m fine.” The lie is like sandpaper over his tongue. “I was just going back to my room for the night.” If he’s this exhausted, maybe he’ll sleep this time. Maybe he’ll sleep deeply enough that the dreams won’t come.
“You can hardly stand,” Victor points out. “I wouldn’t call that fine.“
“I’m just tired.” That, at least, isn’t a lie. Victor doesn’t need to know that he’s been tired for weeks. It’s not like anything can be done to help it. “It’s late.”
“It is.” Victor tips his head to the side. “What are you doing up so late, anyway?”
“I could ask you the same question.” Not that Yuuri was up to anything secretive. He’d been in his favorite corner of the library, trying to tire himself out with books. It used to be that he’d try to sneak out, to go for a run or wander the gardens, but considering how many near-death experiences he’s had in the last month, his parents—and therefore Yuuri’s contingent of bodyguards—has become especially protective.
It’s almost as if Victor is bad luck.
“Well, you never know when the Crown Prince might be wondering around in need of assistance.”
“I don’t need your help,” Yuuri insists, sliding another step back. “I’m fine, I’m fine, I just—” His knee buckles and he stumbles, and then Victor is there, hand on his arm and keeping him steady.
“You just need to lie down,” Victor says. “If you won’t let me help you back to your room, at least let me escort you. For my sake.”
Yuuri frowns and looks away, ignoring the warm point of contact where Victor’s hand is curled just above his elbow.
“You don’t need to,” he mumbles.
“I’m sure most of the kingdom would disagree, but I would assume you knew me better by now, Yuuri.” Victor let’s go but doesn’t take a step back, his hands hovering and ready to catch Yuuri the second his body gives out on him again. “I don’t do things unless I want to do them.”
“So you broke our betrothal because that’s what you wanted to do,” Yuuri concludes, eyes cast towards the ground. He doesn’t know why it makes his chest feel heavy, why it makes his his heart clench painfully. It’s what he wanted, after all. For Victor to be free of the obligation. For the game of pretend to end.
But Victor was supposed to leave. And he hadn’t.
Victor doesn’t respond for a long time, choosing instead to step away before graciously offering his arm. The smile on his face looks like porcelain in the gaslight. When he finally speaks, it’s as if Yuuri never said anything.
“Allow me to see you to your bedroom, Your Highness.”
The formality that Yuuri has known his whole life is like a bucket of cold water when it comes from Victor. It’s proper, it’s protocol, and Yuuri hates how wrong it feels.
Yuuri quietly takes his arm and allows himself to be walked back to his room. It takes longer than it should, Yuuri’s legs weak and his head heavy. He’s nervous about the short trek from the door to his bed, but he doesn’t dare ask Victor to cross the threshold. He is not brave to ask for so much.
He’s just turned the knob when Victor breaks the long silence of their walk with a rushed, “Yuuri.” And Yuuri pauses, letting his weight rest against the doorframe.
Victor is staring at him, lips parted, and then smiles, small and brittle.
“Goodnight, Yuuri.”
The words don’t match Victor’s smile, and Yuuri has the urge to reach out and touch, curious if his fingers will brighten or shatter it.
He does not intend to actually press his fingers to Victor’s lower lip, to push at the corner of his mouth until the shock on Victor’s face twitches into a smile.
“Goodnight, Victor.”

"Yuuri," Victor is whispering against his lips, voice needy, almost a whine. It makes Yuuri's toes curl as something primal takes over his body, wanting to hear more, louder, more.
He kisses Victor deeper, swallows around the slick tongue in his mouth, and they both groan. Saliva is wet on his chin, cold against his heated skin, he can feel it, but at the moment his only focus is in the lines of Victor's body, which is so pliant underneath his hands that he has trouble thinking about what he's doing. He moves almost on instinct, presses fingers into the spots he remembers, touches, teases, grinds the heels of his palms into the flesh and...
There's those delicious sounds again – Victor is moaning on the tip of Yuuri's tongue, audible and so, so irresistible in his plea, and Yuuri– Yuuri is only human. How can he refuse to jump off a cliff when Victor is holding his hand and offering to jump with him?
He shifts his weight so that their hips press together and yes, there's friction, and Victor's gasp echoes across the expanse of Yuuri's chest, which is filled to the brim with his own groans. Yuuri allows a few words of Russian from Victor's mouth, they sound almost as good as the other noises he makes, but they still aren't enough. He leans back in and drinks them from Victor's plush lips, his soft, damned lips that he can't stop touching and which drives Yuuri insane on some days, and he bites.
Victor whimpers, but pulls Yuuri closer, ready and open, and begs with the eyes that look up at Yuuri dazed and love-filled, so honest that Yuuri feels the heat of it scorch his cheeks.
"You're so beautiful," he blurts out without thinking.
Victor's eyes widen and then a smile softens his face. Yuuri's heart is thumping harshly in his chest, the blood is buzzing in his ears, but when Victor smiles at him and kisses him like this, it is all forgotten. There's only the tingling of Victor's lips and the touch of his hands and the breath that passes from Victor's lungs into Yuuri's, like the sweetest kind of poison he grows more and more addicted to with each passing day.
Yuuri's body presses into Victor's, the kisses rushed with hunger, and their skin glowing with sweat, when Victor suddenly throws his head back and chokes on a wet sob. The sound is stark amongst the moans he's used to and Yuuri's heart freezes for one terrifying moment, his every single nerve sizzling with shock. He puts distance between them faster than he can let out the breath that's burning in his throat, desire forgotten as fear jumps on him – fangs bared and ready to tear into his flesh.
"Oh no, did I hurt you?" he asks, shaky hands almost touching Victor to check for injuries before he stills them and remembers; Victor is crying.
There's no tears yet, but the way Victor's lips tremble and his chest heaves tells Yuuri they're close. The face, previously flushed evenly is now splotched red in a way that is less than flattering, but even as Victor's neck covers in an ugly rash right before Yuuri's eyes he is still stunning, and Yuuri aches.
"I'm so sorry, Victor, I didn't mean to–" he rushes to say, but Victor shakes his head vehemently and grabs Yuuri's elbow before Yuuri can slide off of him fully.
"It's not–"
Victor stops, shakes his head again and bites his lip to swallow another dry sob. The tears finally come, welling in his eyes like pearls, and Yuuri is left staring, as he always is: Victor, the incredible, strong Victor with his face contorted into a grimace and gaze glistening with tears; he catches Yuuri off guard like a punch to his gut, an iron hand clenching around his heart, part in fear, part in awe that gets stuck somewhere in his throat.
"I-it's not your fault, Yuuri," Victor finally breathes out. "I just– I'm so–"
He loses voice to tears when they start rolling down his face. Victor's hands move to rub at his cheeks, eyes, face, a little annoyed with himself, a little overwhelmed, a little guilty for ruining the moment. Yuuri softens, his panic easing into something much more mellow, something a tad sad, but warm.
Victor's mouth is curved, upset and so unlike him, but Yuuri loves it, and him, still. Every part, every side, really. Even this.
"Can I touch you?" he asks, careful.
Victor pulls his hands back and opens his arms for him immediately. Yuuri wastes no time and eases himself to the side, lying next to Victor and tugging him close. He cradles Victor against him, wrapping his arms tight around his back.
Maybe it's too tight, maybe they're too close – they're still naked and Yuuri can feel the hardness of Victor's cock pressed against his stomach – but it doesn't matter in the moment, because Victor shifts even closer and slings a leg over his hips so that there's no space on him not covered with Yuuri. Yuuri allows it, worry settling between his shoulder blades and making it hard to breathe, but he pushes air in and out of his lungs with determination. Victor needs him to be his rock now, one of them needs to be strong to pull through whatever this is, so Yuuri bites his tongue and tastes his own blood as he pledges his strength to Victor.
For a while Victor is muffling sniffles in Yuuri's shoulder, quiet and broken, and Yuuri's heart wrenches in his chest, but he knows there isn't much he can do. He slips his hand out of the tangle of their bodies and starts brushing his fingers through the messy platinum blond hair in an effort to wordlessly tell Victor that he's there and he isn't letting go.
"Do you want to talk about it?" he whispers, moving his hand to rest against the side of Victor's neck, holding the back of his head preciously on his wrist.
Victor reaches up, but he doesn't take Yuuri's hand, no. He curves hesitant fingers, so fragile and shy, around a single one of Yuuri's, almost as if he is begging for him not to leave, and Yuuri's heart stutters so hard, he's sure Victor can feel it where he's nestled into Yuuri's chest. It's the closest Yuuri had ever seen to Victor breaking and the vulnerability he exudes is both heart-warming – since Victor trusts him enough to open up to him like this – and devastating – because Yuuri never wants to see, or worse be the cause of Victor's tears.
The answer doesn't come for a long while, Victor simply crying his eyes out until there's no more fight in him. Yuuri lets him, tightening his hold in silence. He's the last person who could judge someone on their need to let things out, so he stays, understanding and supportive, as much as he can.
After Victor's trembling stops and his tears dry out they stay like that for a moment longer, connected by more than just the touch of their bodies, until Victor takes a shaky breath against Yuuri's chest.
"I never thought I'd be here," he admits quietly. "With the person I love. Who loves me. Happy."
Yuuri doesn't say anything, but his heart echoes the sentiment. He never thought he'd be here either.
"You–" Victor lifts his head a little and Yuuri looks down. Suddenly Victor seems so small in his arms it is a little hard to breathe. "You have no idea how much having you, loving you, being loved by you means to me, Yuuri."
Yuuri smiles, a small, shy thing. "I think I do." It is the same for me, he means.
Victor only shakes his head.
"Yuuri, I always thought I would end up alone," he says and Yuuri feels a little bit like crying, too. "I never–"
Victor breaks off, voice cut short by an uneven breath. Yuuri stiffens briefly, afraid the tears will start again, but they don't and Victor continues:
"I never really cared about anyone. And no one really cared about me either."
Yuuri wants to protest, but this is Victor's time, so he bites down on his "You're wrong, Victor. You mean so much to so many people. They care," and lets Victor talk.
"And then I met you," Victor says into Yuuri's chest as if he's speaking directly to his heart and it answers: with harsh thumps against his ribcage, loud and wistful. "You changed my life, Yuuri. You tend not to believe it, but you're incredible. Even if you struggle along the way, you're radiant and people can't help being drawn to you. And I – standing on a pedestal with all my medals and titles – I was so alone. Or I thought I was..."
Yuuri's throat is tight and it's hard to breathe as moisture gathers in his eyes, so he blinks rapidly to get rid of the unwanted tears.
"You showed me that I was wrong," Victor goes on, and Yuuri bites his lip when it starts trembling. "I have so many people in my life: you, Yurio, Chris, Yakov, Mila, Georgi... I didn't– I wasn't aware– It all started with you, Yuuri. I'm so thankful we met, even if you don't remember it. You changed my life... you changed me."
"I didn't," Yuuri swallows harshly and shakes his head, finally speaking up. "It was all you. It was always you."
He smiles when Victor blinks at him, eyes a little red and swollen already, but honest and caring and so, so beautiful, Yuuri can't help but let the love that calmingly buzzes in his veins take over.
"You made all these people love you first," he says gently. "I didn't do anything. They always cared. And you cared, too. You just needed some help to notice it."
"And I got it from you," Victor replies, insistent to give him the credit. Yuuri could argue, he could dismiss it, but Victor's face tells him he was going to be adamant about it, so Yuuri lets it go. "You opened my eyes, Yuuri, and I'm so incredibly grateful for that."
Yuuri swallows, a corner of his mouth turning up even if his eyes get teary again. "Are you trying to make me cry, too?"
Victor laughs, subdued, but truly amused.
"Victor," Yuuri draws back Victor's attention before he can shrug off whatever just happened like it was nothing. "I don't think I ever told you, but... thank you. For coming to me, for believing in me, for making me work on achieving my dream. Thank you so much. You–" Yuuri huffs a breath of laughter because he cannot believe he's saying the same thing, before he continues his thought and says: "You changed my life, too, you know?"
And just like that there are tears in Victor's eyes, but this time they're mirrored in Yuuri's as well, and both of their mouths are spread wide with matching smiles. Victor pulls Yuuri into him, hugging him as tight as he can and Yuuri returns the embrace with no hesitation.
"I love you," Victor tells him, and Yuuri feels the truth of it echo sweetly in his chest. "So much. Yuuri, I love you so much. You're the best thing that happened to me in my entire life."
Victor's arms tighten around him.
"I love you, too," Yuuri murmurs back, fairly certain that if he speaks any louder his voice will break. "Thank you for being here. With me. Thank you, Victor."
This time when Victor's body starts shaking with tiny sobs, Yuuri's shakes with him – because they're too happy, too grateful to stop the tears from falling, and cradled in each other's warmth, unconditional support and love they don't have to.

Otayuri Fic Rec List
Tumblr media
I came for the Victuuri, but several of my favorites had a side pairing I wasn’t expecting to enjoy so much: Otabek Altin and Yuri Plisetsky. I’ve seen some of the wank on the otayuri tag, so if you don’t like, don’t read.
I love long fics (>10,000 word count) and have this insane need to keep track of the ones I really enjoy. Here are both competed works and WIPs that I am following they are all complete now.
UPDATED: January 27, 2018 (Based on fics I was reading in May 2017)
Guys, there are 16 fics here. I now have another 30 to add, but this post is getting too long. I will work on this in the weeks to come!
For this list “canon” are typically set post S1, “au” is a completely different universe and "au - canon divergent” is an au where one or both are still competitive figure skaters.
I. Completed works
A cat in a corner by AphroditeB00w [E, 82,800 word count, complete although not marked done yet)]
(au, mafia, violence, slow burn, assassin/enforcer!Yuri, Part 2 of Shadow People) "You don't own me." Yuri spat at the stone-faced man across from him. "No," Altin agreed mildly, adjusting the cuff of his suit. "But you are owned."Yuri Plisetsky is a reluctant underling in Yaakov's organization in mother Russia. But everything starts shifting and stirring up when he starts working with Otabek Altin, the informant for the criminal gods. His once slumbering sexuality is shocked awake, and the careful facade covering his hate for Yaakov is cracked when he learns that Viktor is not dead after all.
A Heart Beats At Night by magicalyoyo [T, 154,000 word count]
(au, vampire!Yuri, werewolf!Otabek, elements of canon, angst, Victor/Yuuri side pairing) A lone figure ran along the sidewalk. Otabek would have mistaken him for a motivated jogger, if not for the sinewy, fluid movements and familiar figure. He jerked his bike over, skidding to a halt in front of the runner.
Otabek’s heart was pounding a sickening, dizzying rhythm, but he schooled his face into stoicism as he pulled his helmet off to get a better look.
“Yuri Plisetsky died two years ago,” he growled. “What the hell are you?”
a silver splendour, a flame by thehandsingsweapon [M, 113,200 word count]*** Main pairing Yuuri/Viktor with Otabek/Yuri is a significant side pairing
(au, angst, mcd (with qualifiers), fantasy, slow burn, magic) Fantasy AU. When a magic user’s craft fully matures it manifests in the form of a spirit guardian. Mages and elves bearing these familiars spend a year presenting them to each of the high courts throughout the year’s festivals. Both Viktor and Yuuri have their reasons for hiding the full extent of their gifts – Viktor’s been hurt before, when his own powers were used against him; Yuuri’s been warned that everyone will want his; what will happen when Yuri comes of age, and in doing so, makes two very bright stars finally cross?
A Stiller Doom by Tessa on Ice [E, 68,400 word count]***
(abo, angst, social justice, violence, abo, au-canon divergent) “It is in vain ot say human beings out to be satisfied with traquility: they must have aciton and they will make it if they cannot find it. Millions are condemned to a stiller doom than mine, and millions are in silent revolt against their lot. Nobody knows how many rebellions ferment in the masses of life which people earth.” - Charlotte Bronte, Jane Eyre.  NOTE: fic is currently unavailable due to an AO3 issue, but will hopefully be back. Really enjoyed this one. A lot of political drama.
Adventures in Personal Growth (verse) by stutter [E, 23,700 word count for series)
(canon, pining, dom/sub elements, rough sex, read the tags) "When Victor was his age - younger, even, Yuri thinks, shame blooming in his chest - he’d made the whole world fall in love with him already. The long hair, the soft smile, the way he moved like he had a secret in his skin and he couldn't wait to share it with you. Yuri’s watched the tapes over and over. He could skate any of Victor’s early routines in his sleep. But he can't - the thing Victor could do so easily, the casual, guileless charisma he threw like a shadow - Yuri can't manage it on a single person, not even some moody Kazakh with a dumb haircut whose eyes are too far apart anyway - "(In Park Guell, Yuri takes a hard fall. Otabek picks him up.)
All the Right Notes by pastelplisetsky [T, 42,800 word count]
(au, music, slow burn, fluff) Yuri Plisetsky is an incredibly gifted piano player, known for his passionate and somewhat violent playing/compositions. But in order to compete in the famous Eurasia United competition (completely fictional), he needs a violin accompanist. Although he’s dreamed about this competition for years, he’s always worked better alone. Until a little-known, solemn, lovely violinist walks into his life. Inspired by Yuri’s Allegro Appassionato in B Minor, his free skate song.
the birth of comets takes place on the tip of your lashes by apollothyme [T, 16,600 word count]***
(au - canon divergent, angst, hurt comfort, blindness, friends to lovers) His second visit to an ophthalmologist occurs five months later. Just like during his first consultation, he doesn’t understand any of the medical jargon coming from the doctor’s mouth. Only now, after he’s done explaining everything in complicated, convulsed words, the man turns to Yuri with a smile on his face and explains everything once more, this time using terms Yuri can understand. Yuri listens. He bites down on his bottom lip and he does not cry.
Endurance and Peach Tea by chapstickaddict [T, 11,500 word count]
(canon, pining, slow burn, fluffy fluff) Yuri hummed. His body didn’t uncurl, but instead of pressing his face into the fold of his legs, he rested it on his crossed forearms. Tilting his face towards Otabek, he looked for the bronze metal. The colorful ribbon snuck into the folds of his jacket, hiding his prize from view. Yuri reached out, and Otabek let him pull the ribbon to bring the metal into the light. It was beautiful. Heavy and ornate, with the front masterfully detailed. The perfect symbol of success. Yuri flipped it over, admiring Otabek’s name carved along the back. Wait.“Did they spell your name wrong?” he demanded, straightening. Otabek made a noise beside him.
It takes three years for Yuri to figure himself out and get his head on right. He drags everyone along for the ride. Otabek is the only one to go willingly.
From Almaty, With Love by BoxWineConfessions [E, 115,900 word count]
(canon, pining, slow build, slice of life, part 1 of series) It’s quiet here. Even if the car alarm on the neighbor’s goddamn BMW has been going off for the past twenty minutes. Quiet, even though the alarm’s got the neighbor’s dog howling like crazy, and the neighbor works second shift and isn’t there to comfort the dumb dog. It’s quiet
They haven’t spoken to each other since that morning, when Yuri went off to go see his tutor, and Otabek went off to do whatever the hell it was he did in the mornings before he hit the rink. “You’re used to the noise?”“Yeah, but
I think I like the quiet too.” Or: Yuri spends the summer with Otabek in Almaty.
Half a Chance by ratherunneccessary [M, 55,900 word count]
(canon, angst, fluff, slow burn) Yuri has never cared about anything as much as he cares about skating. Until, one day, that changes. Or, Viktor falls in love with Yuuri, Yuuri falls in love with Viktor, Yuri falls in love with Yuuri, Otabek falls in love with Yuri, and somehow everything turns out okay.
I Will Not Break by kanekki [E, 39,000 word count] series Accuse Me Thus [E, 121,400 word count in 3 part series]
(canon, divergent after S1, DARK, rape/noncon, depression, anxiety, references self harm, references suicide, child abuse, part 1 of a series) Yuri has been supporting his family with his skating since he was a teenager, but now they are barely making it. How long will he be able to hold it together before everything falls apart? Series summary: After his gold medal win at the Grand Prix Finals, Yuri Plisetsky’s life completely falls apart. With the help of his boyfriend and skating friends, Yuri tries to pull himself back together.
in flesh and bone by csoru [M, 32,100 word count]
(canon, angst, long distance relationship, pining, hurt comfort) After recovering from an injury that cut his previous season short, Yuri makes a comeback with a new coach, a new country of residence, and a relationship upgrade. Still: perfection takes effort.
In spite of the world by Stone_Heart [E, 100,100 word count]
(au, fairy!Yuri, soldier!Otabek, domestic, hurt/comfort, war, slow burn, bonded) There was a shuffling from above him, loud banging noises as it came closer. Otabek braced himself. This person helped him. But
A pale face peered over the stairs, looking at him. He blinked back. Those eyes
bright green and ferocious. Those eyes were what he looked for on a battlefield. Not the scared eyes of a peasant or the pudgy eyes of a spoiled king. No, those were the eyes of a soldier.
Neon Pink Motorcycle by goldheart [M, 74,700 word count]
(au - canon divergent, angst, soulmate/soulmark, pining, slow burn, past child abuse) There are certain moments in Yuri Plisetsky’s life that he likes to forget happened at all. The time they were chased from the apartment, the landlord angrily spitting and waving threateningly at them when his mother couldn’t produce enough money for rent. Babushka’s funeral. The first time he fell in competition. He cannot forget that, under the black band he wears around his wrist like a shield, his soulmark may as well be nonexistent.
You’ll Live Without It by HyperionHero [E, 24,400 word count]
(canon, angst, fluff, pining) "Yuri smirks, thumbing the material of Otabek's hoodie underneath his team Russia jacket. When he catches himself smiling he blushes and pulls his hand back to his phone. It's fine, he tells himself. Friends totally wear each other's clothes..."Yuri Plisetsky is surrounded by love. It's like a sickness, claiming his friends, his rivals, the attention of everyone he knows. He avoids it at all costs... but what Yuri doesn't know is that love has a knack of sneaking up on people. Sometimes it brews for years, right under your nose, and you don't notice it until it's staring you in the face - taking the form of a stoic Kazakhstani man bound in leather.
Unsteady by otayui_oh_nice [E, 140,000 word count]***
(au, rockstar!Yuri, DJ!Otabek, abusive family, mostly fluff with some angst, Slow burn, tattoos) Otabek was going to kill JJ. He was going to take the next flight to Canada, hunt him down and kick his ass. Leo: I tried to stop him but he went and did it anyway, I’m sorry! (link)- Or: JJ uploads one of Otabek's remixes of Yuri's songs to YouTube and Otabek freaks out.- Or: what happens when you take episode 1, replace figure skaters with musicians and exchange Victuuri for Otayuri. Aka another strange AU no one asked for.

Yuuri, Victor, and their Chain of Surprises
Victuuri Week 2017 – Day 1 – Victor Prompt – Surprises
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As a kick off to Victuuri Week 2017, let’s take a look at one of the biggest themes in Yuri on Ice: Surprises! Specifically, all the times that Yuuri and Victor surprise each other within the course of the show.
More below the cut because this ended up much longer than I had initially planned. :’D
Tumblr media
The show begins with this line said by Yuuri and, compounded by the fact that we mostly have Yuuri as the narrator, it gives us the overall impression that most of the surprises in the show are from Victor -> Yuuri. But when it comes to how Yuuri and Victor affect each other person to person, face to face, it’s amazing to note that they’re actually fairly even. The first surprise is actually even the opposite! Yuuri himself started a chain reaction of back and forth surprises, almost like a personal challenge between the two, without even realizing it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Most of the time, the big surprises we see shared between the two of them are actually Yuuri -> Victor! If we look at it in chronological order, the next surprise between the two of them is the banquet. And we know how that turned out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then Yuuri surprises Victor from a distance because even back when they barely knew each other they weren’t held back by any small problems like being a continent apart.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In reality, it seems like this show is more about Yuuri never ceasing to surprise Victor
at least at the start. So is it really so shocking that it then becomes a game to up the ante and surprise each other back and forth? So after 3 months of contemplating, Victor thinks “hmmm, what’s the best way I can show the same excitement to Yuuri that he’s shown to me?” and decides that the best way is to show up naked in his family’s hot springs. Smooth, Victor.
Tumblr media
And then even when he’s not trying to surprise him, he still ends up shocking Yuuri anyway. Such as here:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Victor then tries a different tactic though because he’s too thirsty for any one man to control.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m sorry but we need to interrupt the thirst for a brief intermission consisting of a couple of back to back surprises.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And you can visibly see how happy Victor is to get surprised by Yuuri again, he’s finally getting some positive feedback for the first time since the GPF! This is absolutely what he signed up for!
But he’s still dehydrated so he definitely doesn’t chill even for a moment.
Tumblr media
But you know, not all the surprises are entirely positive per se. Such as Victor’s moment of “did I really get seduced by a man envisioning katsudon?”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Which then led to him going off and drinking away his sorrows while Yuuri contemplated his realization and what Eros actually means to him.
The next surprises come in a tender moment, and it’s actually two-fold as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They don’t always need a noticeably shocked expression to be surprised. There’s no way that Victor was expecting Yuuri to pull out the lines he did, same as Yuuri wasn’t expecting the response he got. But now Yuuri’s on a roll and it’s time to make up for the currently uneven number of surprises in the Victor -> Yuuri/Yuuri -> Victor ratio.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After this point, even their everyday interactions are tied up in surprises, whether it’s saying something unexpected or reacting in some way that the other didn’t see coming. So we’ll try and focus on some of the larger moments now. Larger moments like this one on the beach:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Moments that shock them on more than just an outward level but a deeper, more emotional one. And these surprises actually tend to be more Yuuri -> Victor. But that doesn’t mean Victor can’t surprise Yuuri anymore!
Tumblr media
However, while Yuuri doesn’t get back at him for that with his short program, he certainly does with his free skate!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And so starts the precedent of Yuuri surprising Victor with his skating. As you’ll see, this definitely isn’t a singular occurrence. And then he tops off the end of the event with the biggest surprise of all:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And of course Victor is ShookTM. And it’s interesting to see that from this point on, the tables are actually turned most of the time. At least for the large surprises. Next up is another big WTF moment for Victor.
Tumblr media
And yes, I chose the middle most shocked-looking frame for that screencap because it really captures what Victor’s initial reaction is. The funny part is, even when Victor tries to get back at Yuuri by whispering innuendoes into his ear at the kiss & cry, he still only gives Victor the side eye. You’re going to have to try harder than that now Victor!
But then we get a different kind of shock. And not a particularly happy one either.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Victor surprises Yuuri by telling him he’s going to retire
and then Yuuri surprises him back both by his immediate reaction (bursting into tears) and by then telling him exactly what he needs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then we get to the two surprises that most people probably think of first when they hear the word. The Quad Flip:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Followed by The Kiss, the only thing that Victor could think to do to surprise Yuuri more than Yuuri surprised him:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The expression on Yuuri’s face pretty much speaks for itself. But of course, just because they’re now more comfortable in both their skating and personal relationship doesn’t mean the surprises will end. In fact, it’s far from it. It’s time to up the ante again!
Tumblr media
It’s pretty much a competition by this point. Who can surprise the other more during any given moment. I’d say ‘especially in public’ but you just know they have this mini-competition going on in private too. Of course Victor won’t just let this stand however. So he gets back in his own way: just as publicly and just as affectionately.
Tumblr media
I swear these two have made it into some kind of game now. There’s no way they haven’t.
But then crisis hits! And Yuuri surprises Victor again by showing how much of a supportive boyfriend he is by encouraging Victor to head back to Japan to be there for Makkachin in their time of need.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As such, they don’t really interact directly for a while. That is, until they meet up again.
Tumblr media
You can see Victor’s expression reflected in his eyes here. But in case you couldn’t see that well, you can also see his jaw hanging open in the next shot of him as well.
Tumblr media
He then makes a comment based on their personal relationship but Yuuri doesn’t really react all that much. So he pulls out the big guns. And you can see how much those words mean to Yuuri.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then next in the line of big shocking moments, we have another that everyone’s minds gravitate to when thinking of surprises. The Proposal (and the build up to it). Just check out how shocked Victor is initially!
Tumblr media
He has no words for the entire situation. And Victor stays in this flabbergasted state for a while.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Until Yuuri snaps him out of it with his words, and then he returns the sentiment wholeheartedly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We will now take a short detour into the land of angst aka Yuuri’s anxiety because we all knew it was going to come back to bite him at some point. And we see a whole lot of it in on the day of the GPF short programs. But, keeping on the theme of surprises and not delving into a depression-ridden Yuuri meta, I’ll just focus on the event that comes out of all the ep 11 stress. And it’s a moment that shocks Victor so much that both Yuuri and Victor are surprised as to how he reacted. The whole scene is very much a parallel to the Cup of China parking garage.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And again, similar to the parking garage, Yuuri pulls a “wtf you’re crying?” and Victor reacts in anger.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But instead of offering up an immediate solution, they decide to leave it until after the free skate which is when we see the next big surprises. Namely, Yuuri’s perfect skate and his smashing of Victor’s world record in the long program.
But before that, let’s just take a moment to appreciate Yuuri shocking Victor by telling him he just wants him to continue being himself and then Victor snapping Yuuri out of his funk and into a better headspace before he gets on the ice.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yuuri then takes to the ice and creates a performance so beautiful that it leave Victor crying tears of joy.
Tumblr media
And then proceeds to smash his world record apart in front of him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The last shot is the best we get of the initially surprised Victor before he takes joy in it and congratulates Yuuri. And then finally we fast forward to the end of the program and the final surprises we see shared between the two of them: Yuuri’s decision to continue skating and Victor’s decision to continue coaching (and skating).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So at the end of the day, you can see that their entire relationship is built on surprises. Back and forth, they make it a competition to one-up each other. And though not all of the surprises are good, it all comes down to the same thing. Both Victor and Yuuri never cease to surprise each other.

Victuuri Recs #7
One Step Sideways by airgeer (PG-13, 28k) Summary: "Waking up in a world where the best possible turn of events was a literal doppelgĂ€nger was not exactly what Victor considered a great morning. The other Victor apparently begged to differ. “Amazing!” he said, poking Victor in the shoulder." Just as Victor and Yuuri are about to start the final dash of preparing for the Grand Prix Final, Victor finds himself in a different reality- one where he, rather than coaching Yuuri, is in the middle of skating his retirement season. They don't know how it happened, or how to fix it, but neither Victor has ever let details like that stop him. [Parallel Universe, *FAVORITE] You Can't Plan for Everything by RivDeV (NC-17, 113k, WIP) Summary: Yuuri forgets that he has a scheduled heat coming up until it's just a couple weeks away. He scrambles to get everything ready in time, including deciding whether he'll spend it alone or with someone. Victor only wants to help. [Omegaverse, *FAVORITE] turn it, leave it, stop, format it by ebenroot (NC-17, 19.6k) Summary: “If you want, I can recommend you some security programs that you can download for free and protect your computer. That way, you won’t be at risk of losing these cute photos of your dog even when you browse websites like ‘Luscious Lonely Wives’.” Victor gives one long ‘haa’. “I don’t browse those websites,” he says through his straining smile. -- the 'i will break any and all electronic devices that get into my hands if it means I get to talk to the cute tech support guy' fic [Tech Support!Yuuri, Dog Groomer!Victor] so this guy walks into a bar... by silvercistern (NC-17, 16k) Okay, okay, okay so you know that trope where a couple pretends to be strangers so that they can seduce each other? Yeah I’m sure you do. It’s been done before. But hear me out: What if they were embarrassingly bad at it? Instead of talking over their future, two grown-ass, married adults pretend to be strangers in a club. Those Three Words by azriona (R, 31k) Summary: Their one night of passion in Sochi left Victor Nikiforov with a bit more of a souvenir than either he or Yuuri Katsuki bargained for. Oops? [Omegaverse] i feel like i win when i lose by renaissance (NC-17, 7.9k) Summary: Yuuri’s life is a mess. He came a spectacular last in the Grand Prix Finals, drank too much at the banquet, initiated no fewer than three dance-offs, took his shirt off, wore his tie like a headband, pole-danced in his underpants, made a fool of himself in front of ISU officials—and now, somehow, he’s Viktor Nikiforov’s booty call. [Canon Divergence] My Name On Your Lips by feelslikefire (NC-17, 31k, WIP) Summary: Yuuri Katsuki has been betrothed to the High King's son, Victor, since he was just a child; furthermore, as an omega, he's forbidden from practicing magic in combat. For years, he's been able to put off the former because the Prince was traveling abroad, and gotten around the latter by practicing with his mentor in secret. Now Victor Nikiforov has finally returned home, and Yuuri is being summoned to the capital for their wedding. He needs a plan to put off marriage long enough to find a way to break the betrothal, while keeping his practicing from being discovered. If only the Prince didn't have other ideas. (Or, the swords-and-sorcery arranged marriage AU. Updates weekly.)[Omegaverse, WIP] Until My Feet Bleed and My Heart Aches by Reiya (NC-17, 147.5k, WIP) Summary: ‘
Of all the rivalries in the world of sports over the years, perhaps none has become so legendary as that of Russian figure skater Viktor Nikiforov and his rival, Japanese Yuuri Katsuki
’ A single event changes the course of Yuuri’s life, throwing him into a bitter rivalry with Viktor Nikiforov that spans across his entire skating career. But as the years go on, rivalry and hatred begin to develop into something very different and Yuuri doesn’t seem to be able to stay away, no matter how hard he tries. Hatred and love are two sides of the same coin and even though everything changes, some things are still meant to be. [Rivals!AU, WIP] He's Going the Distance by Phayte (NC-17, 2.6k) Summary: So... Day Two Prompt for Victuuriweek - LONG DISTANCE was the Prompt with Yuuri... so um... Yuuri, Victor, Phichit and Chris have a 'long distance' contest to see who wins... at your service by anirondack (NC-17, 5.2k) Summary: “That felt really good,” Yuuri says as he shuts the television off on the second try. “Can you do the rest of me?” A Victor standing up, a Victor sitting on the couch next to Yuuri with a glass of wine in his hand or a dog in his lap, would have made a suggestive joke about that. But the Victor on his knees just nods, happy to have direction on how to best please Yuuri, and says, “Of course.” Five thousand words of service sub Victor, plus some sex. [D/s] lie to make me like you by cityboys (R, 80k) Summary: It’s become a game, of sorts, to anyone privy to the fact that the pattern exists in the first place: ask Victor out at the beginning of the month, date for however many days, and wait for the end to come and for Victor to say, always: I couldn’t fall in love with you. Let’s break up. Or, Victor is a retired actor looking for love, and Yuuri happens to be the (un)fortunate soul to unwittingly ask him out at the beginning of the month. Except relationships don't come with a script, and it's much harder understanding love than roles. [Actor!Victor, Ballet!Yuuri Entertainment Industry AU]

Victuuri AU to dive for
@fishwrites i need to make a post cuz asks just wont do :) Im a very new fan of your Watercast fic (only at ch 3 but OMG), and just saw u have an Otayuri au set in that universe too, and it has Victuuri too in the background? idk i just saw this post (YET) and didnt want to bump into big spoilers searching for the Victuuri set up. Thus i still dont know a lot about the world setting (human technology is not so advanced in my take) and nothing of your Victuuri there so this may be very different than your idea BUT seeing the post suddenly a whole big Victuuri au hit me SO HARD that i just NEEDED to share it. Just for fun, for SHARING the mental images :) (i may or may not draw this in the future cuz daaaamn...)
.
.
SO, THE AU:
Victor is an Avian of course (theres NO WAY Victor wouldnt get his beautiful huge silky silver wings from me no fucking chance!!!!!) who falls not from the sky but head over flight-feather tips in love with the Human Yuuri.
Yuuri is working unofficially on his big lifetime dream project, together with his best friend and fellow dreamer Phichit, finally at a big breakthrough. The Artificial Wings project (not decided name yet XD cuz ughh) got to the stage of successful glide testings. Which is a HUGE thing. Now this is not exactly artificial wing per se, but an ambitious dream of making a working, lightweight, simple flight machine. (imagine our gliders and add engine, close call) But they want it not only to glide, but actively fly, which needs a clever engine, balmera crystals -that they...ehmm “found” and hid for years- as power sources, control system, just the right shape of wing to it, expertise, and many more important details in perfect sync.
This is not just a big dream, deemed impossible by “sane” people, but also a dangerous one. If u dont count fucking up and crushing into the ground (instead of into somebody who crushes ON u in turn afterwards) u got 3 main chances of getting screwed for it by:
a) Galra, who would likely take and weaponize it against Avians
b) those Humans who would likely take and make a pact with Galra with it
c) Avians, who may just kill u and destroy it for posing such a threat, perhaps (Well not Victor it seems. Victor is fascinated by it and their ambitions, and mainly by Yuuri really.)
...yeeeahhh... but who said big dreams are easy? Phichit and Yuuri are determined and believing in themselves that they can fly free some day, as are their trusted supporters, and share it widely in a better future.  Yuuri aims high, and refuses to give in to his fears, is determined to reach the sky. The beautiful free sky. The sky he searched so many times to catch Avians flying in the great distance with his telescopes, always admiring them....
He just didnt expect to reach one, much less this soon, and certainly not like this.
But it sure doesnt hurt -on the long run- if u crush into a moping around low in the middle of nowhere Avian during an almost disastrous test glide, who then for some reason decides to “nest” himself in your life and coaches you in the art of FLIGHT.
Aka the au in which Victor and Yuuri teach each other how to fly, in various meanings of the word.

Georgi, the 3rd Yuri - Part 4
DISCLAIMER: This is a long meta. I wrote this along with a friend and we spent pretty much a week analyzing a lot of stuff, from the anime scenes to interviews and even song lyrics. There’s a ton of text, many links and it can get kind of pretty image heavy in some parts.
To help with this, and for organization’s sake, we divided this meta in 4 parts.
Part 1 - Georgi, the Chekhov’s Gunman and 3rd Yuri in Yuri!!! On Ice
Part 2 - Georgi, Victor, and The Sleeping Beauty
Part 3 - The types of love and Victor’s long hair
Part 4 - The romantic songs and Victor’s first love
The romantic songs and Victor’s first love
If Yuri!!! On Ice talks about love, then of course we’ll have romantic songs in some of the programs. Stay Close To Me, A Tales of Sleeping Prince and Serenade For Two are the examples we have here, and all of them are praised - and with good reason. A lot has already been analyzed about Stay Close To Me, and it was confirmed that this song is Victuuri’s theme; however, when you analyze the lyrics along with the other two songs, it’s clear that it goes beyond that.
These songs are connected and they communicate with each other constantle, and they tell a story not about Victor and Yuuri, but of a possible old relationship of Victor, in the shadows, with Georgi.
Sounds pretty crazy, doesn’t it? Fanfic fuel, maybe? Honestly, we’d think so at first too, but when you put this together with the fact that Georgi is a Chekhov’s Gunman with huge potential and is someone who’s pretty much Victor’s opposite, it gets clear that yes, there is a real possibility of Victor and Georgi having something in their past.
Before we start to talk about how the songs are related, we need to understand them individually.
Stay Close To Me is Victor’s free skate song. He already told us that his program songs tell stories, and we do have, in fact, a narrative for this song. It tells the love story of a man who lost someone, but hears a far away voice and, even though he doesn’t recognize who’s calling, he goes for them, since the person who’s calling sounds as alone as him.
Here we have a solitary Victor communicating with music to the audience. He is solitary, the ice doesn’t make him as happy as before, and he goes in search of this distance voice without even knowing if the person behind it is alive or dead - and in the end they’re alive, and they both reunite in a happy grand finale.
Sounds familiar with a certain fairy tale?
Great, because we’re now gonna about A Tales of Sleeping Prince. The title already makes a reference to The Sleeping Beauty
But if Georgi lost Anya, why does the song has Tales in its name? Maybe because his heart was broken more than once?
And why is the song called Sleeping Prince if the one who sleeps in the fairy tale is the princess? The answer lies in the fact that Georgi, as we can see in his costume for this program that has elements of both genders, interprets both roles. He is his own prince, and at the same time is the sleeping princess, and he needs to find himself to wake up. Still, even if this is an incredibly personal journey, in The Sleeping Beauty the prince finds the princess with the help of a certain someone: the Lilac Fairy.
Sleeping Prince, then, gives us Georgi’s point of viev about himself, but he also needs external help - someone who can encourage him to wake up, someone who listens to the “wake me up” that is repeated in the backround many times during the song. His Lilac Fairy.
Now Serenade for Two seems to be the one that makes less sense with the characters, since it’s Michele’s free skate song, and the anime made itself clear in showing us his depedency problems with his sister, Sara.  The moral of this small arc is that love also sets free, and Georgi points to us that Michele skates with lost love
And this proves us that he knows that sensation.
If Stay Close To Me is Victor’s theme and A Tales of Sleeping Prince is Georgi’s, Serenade for Two is the fusion of both character’s point of view.
And it is through the analysis of these songs, of their word play and metaphors, that we can see that they create a narrative about an past relationship, a hidden one... In the shadows.
In the shadows, like where Georgi stays. In the shadows, just like when Victor lost his long hair in the first scene in episode 1.
Song identification guide:
Stay close to me
A Tales of Sleeping Prince
Serenade for Two
For this analysis we need to start
From the end! It starts exactly at the final echo of A Tales of Sleeping Prince:
[Wake me up!]: This is a desperate plea that echoes far away, Georgi begs to wake up, he can’t take being abandoned anymore. The answer, however, is at the start of Victor’s Stay Close To Me.
I hear a voice crying far away: A voice crying far away
 As in an echo?
Have you been abandoned as well?: "You” who? If Victor didn’t knew Yuuri before this program, he wouldn’t be questioning him if he was a solitary as him (and, actually, loneliness doesn’t really applies to Katsuki, because he himself admits to be surrounded by people who love and support him). Is there anyone with a bigger similarity with Victor then, someone as surrounded by loneliness than Georgi?
Tell me now, its dark: Tell me now. Why now and not before? Besides that, it’s dark. Are you in the shadow again, Georgi?
There is no star in the sky: Oh, yes, we see, it’s because Victor, the Russian star, is gone...
Where are you?: Where have you gone, Victor? Well, of course Georgi knows where, but, far away, that distance seems enormous, something he can’t understand.
Come now, lets empty this glass of wine soon: Let’s finish this soon - someone’s in a hurry. Victor, probably, to finish his career as a figure skater. It’s also relevant to know that wine is associated with riches and grace, just like his skating style. Besides that, in European culture in particular, the act of drinking wine is associated with appreciating life. Victor’s anxious to go away from the ice once and for and then finally start to appreciate life and love, two things he lost.
I'll start getting ready: Victor starts to prepare to end his career, to drink his glass of wine
Why are you leaving me?: Why? Has the reason for their separation been made clear enough? Georgi’s stil hurt about this.
Now be silent: Contrast with the next line. Now be silent, to hear me say. Then now, after all this time, Victor will explain himself and make things clear, now that he’ll be leaving the ice, now that he can enjoy life.
Let me hear you say: “Then let me hear what you have to say”. Probably the reason Victor gave him at first wasn’t enough, he couldn’t understand nor accept, but he still wants to hear Victor.
Let me be your love: Explains itself.
With a sword I wish I could cut: Cut with a sword
Like cutting your hair with scissor blades. It’s also interesting that the sword reminds us of a fairy tale imagery, a theme that both Victor and Georgi share in common with The Sleeping Beauty. It’s also important to notice that the part that begins here is not sung on the duetto, the version that Victor and Yuuri skate together at the season finale.
Those throats singing about love: I want to cut all throats that ressonate love songs. Why does he want to get rid of such memories so much? Why do they hurt him or revolt him so much? This part is a lament, and a confession.
Show me your heart: Here, Georgi encourages him to speak. Show me your heart, show me what you’ve been keeping away during all this time.
I see the brightest star: The brightest star, Victor! Georgi sees him again! He’s coming back, the sky’s not dark anymore; Georgi’s waking up.
I wish to seal in the cold the hands That portray those verses of burning passion: I want to cut, I want to end once and for all these lies (love stories and such) that I brought upon the ice. Because he may have felt obliged to cut away his own love to keep working on the ice and tell other people’s love stories, in a painful irony.
I'll give you my heart: Victor’s so hurt
Georgi won’t hesitate to give him his own heart.
This story that makes no sense: It makes no sense. Staying here (on the ice) doesn’t make sense anymore. Skating gave him everything, but also took him everything, at the same proportion.
Will vanish tonight along with the stars: Conection with the beginning of Sleeping Prince, the metaphor of the dark sky with no stars. Besides that, the story will vanish along with the stars, in this case with the stars going away from the scene (Victor and Georgi, both old for the sport, retiring).
If I could see you from hope: The hope of being saved.
Let me be the one I'll always be Be there for you I promise to save you: And the promise to do so.
I'll save you now: Complimenting with the lines above, Georgi promises to be at Victor’s side, promises to save him now. Why, if he couldn’t do it before?
Eternity will be born: The last line of the part that’s not sung on the duetto at the season finale. It’s interesting to see that it speaks about eternity, and yet Victor and Yuuri don’t skate about it... From this information we can deduce narratively that they still have points at their relationship that they need to work on, or, in another hypothesis, that they’re not faded to be together forever - at least not now.
Stand close to me: Asking for someone to stay with him, and the answer comes right away.
Oh baby I'm coming: Expains itself.
Don't go I'm afraid of losing you: Victor didn’t want to break up, that’s why he asks for Georgi not to go away. This brings even more the following question: for what reason did they broke up? Victor’s also solitary. He has the chance to have something special with another person, but he fears losing the conection that’s narrated in the following lines. He’s desperate.
You're not alone I promise to save you I'll save you now: But you’re not alone, Victor! I promise I’ll save you now! Georgi’s answer is clear: he won’t let them to be separated anymore, now he’ll make sure to save him.
Your hands, your legs My hands, my legs The heartbeats: The heart metaphor, also present in Sleeping Prince, making a connection with said song (I'll give you my heart).
Are fusing together: This is a huge metaphor for a deep and real relationship. While the previous lines talk about the physical (sex, basically), the line just before this talks about heart, more specifically heartbeats. The two people in this song are so close that even the heartbeats are syncronized. It’s literally a fusion of souls, something spiritual and really deep - not the fleeting and lustful love of Eros, represented here by no one but Yuuri himself.
Let's leave together: Victor goes away, but not alone. He goes with someone, a person who, just like him, also needs to finish what they started on the ice. In this case, Victor and Georgi will leave, together. It’s relevant to note that Yuuri’s still young enough to skate, so it doesn’t make sense for him to leave with Victor in this context.
Now I'm ready: Now, for what? Now why and, especially, for what? What happened for Victor to be ready now, but not before? Unfinished business with someone of his past?
[Wake me up!]: It’s the plea that echoes itself. Victor’s not the only one that needs to be saved. Georgi wants to wake up again for love, for life.
No matter what I'll save you now: It’s important to see that these lines about saving/kissing have no matter what. This is unconditional love. It doesn’t matter if Victor or Georgi have 1 or 100 golden medals, whatever. Georgi’s ready to save himself no matter the circumstances, and he wants to save Victor too, without the expectation to get something in return.
[Wake me up!]: You can see that the wake me up is distant, just like the voice mentioned at the beggining of Stay Close To Me, who’s calling for Victor. Georgi needs to wake up, and even though he needs to do so alone (since he’s the prince and princess of his own faity tale, evidenced by his costume), he needs someone to guide him - Victor, the Lilac Fairy, who guides the prince to kiss the Sleeping Beauty.
No matter what I'll kiss you now: No matter what and now, which make themselves presents during the whole song, reinforcing that the unconditional love stills exists at the present time (and that it can still manifest itself).
[Wake me up!]: The plea still echoes, until the begging of Stay Close To Me.
No matter what I'll save you now: "It doesn’t matter what they’ll say now, I’ll never let you go again”. There’s nothing that chains them to the ice anymore with the retirement. With no more masks, they owe nothing to the world.
[Wake me up!] No matter what I'll kiss you now I'll always be Be there for you I promise to save you I'll save you now Oh baby I'm coming You are not alone I promise to save you I'll save you now: All of these repeated lines, reinforcing what has been said before: I’m here for you and I won’t leave you. I’ll save you now, Victor, you’re not alone.
You always made me strong: Someone always made Georgi strong. It wasn’t Anya, but someone who was present in his life for more time. In this case, Victor, someone who Georgi saw as an inspiration for him to get better as an skater (since he was always in his shadow, but he wants to be appreciated for his art before anything else).
I'm not alone: I’m not alone! Georgi’s able to save himself so he can save someone else, who’s no one but the person who guided him, since Victor also needs help. It’s the search for himself, for his own love before he’s able to give it to another person.
I promise to save you I'll save you now Oh baby I'm coming: More reinforcement of his promises. Just like a prince, right?
Through the dark: Through the dark, because Victor’s not a star anymore, he’s not in the sky, yet Georgi doesn’t want anything with his status as a professional and wants to save him as a person, even if this means walking through the dark (without Victor) alone.
I promise to save you I'll save you now: Not a question, but a guarantee: I will save you and I’ll save you now!
After analyzing the two songs, you know what else is interesting? A Tales of Sleeping Prince plays at the background, without lyrics, when the skaters in Barcelona are hanging out together. It’s during the scene when Phichit announces Yuuri’s engagement with Victor, and the same scene when Victor told them that he’ll only marry Yuuri if he wins gold. It’s pretty ironic that a song with lyrics about always being close with someone is played during a scene when Victor puts in a condition for their marriage to happen.
Another thing that reinforces the idea of this possible past relationship is that, while Stay Close To Me and A Tales of Sleeping Prince have each a story in their lyrics, Yuri on Ice doesn’t have any. While everyone thinks that Stay Close To Me is about Victuuri only, Victor skated to it alone, telling the story of a lost love and the desire to get it back. Meanwhile, in his free skate, Yuuri skates about the many kinds of love that he feels and that supported him through his career, but this story doesn’t need to be told in words. Contrary to Georgi and Victor, Yuuri doesn’t have a love story to tell, not yet.
And now, to finish with the song’s analysis, Serenade for Two:
Whenever I hear you bands begin to play: Whenever I hear, indicating here communication above everything - something that still needs work in Victuur, and something explicitated in Stay Close To Me and Sleeping Prince, where the lines talk amongst themselves.
It's a serenade: Serenades are songs normally played during the night, in small verses. Normally below a window, to court the person who’s watching from above. Who’s always on the podium? Who’s extremaly artistic in his programs? Besides that, the fact that the serenade is nocturne matches perfectly with the other lines and all of the metaphors involving the moon, the stars and the sky, that are present in all of the three songs.
For two: If it’s “our serenade for two”, here it’s a vision that fits both, because the song is about them together.
How do I forget you: And how could they forget each other if they were side by side, growing together and sharing space in both their lifes and on the rink?
this feeling inside: What happened in the past stays in the past, but the feelings love on, as it can be seen in their individual songs.
I am always watching over you: Always, as in now. Victor, who’s always at the top, can’t watch anyone, but who’s the person that’s always in his shadow?
Whenever I see you: This line can be an alusion to Georgi watching Victor skate, and how he fell in love with his skating in the past, that was once full of life.
Stars in your eyes: Important!! In the anime, during episode 9, the close in Georgi’s face starts right at this line. His eyes shine in nostalgia as he speaks about lost love.
Brighten up the sky: In the anime, the close persists during this line as well. We don’t really have to say at this point that the stars metaphor is an alusion to the other songs now.
For me: The close ends right there.
We're dancing in the moonlight: They’re dancing now! The serenate worked, and as they dance in the night, they’re booth on equal points with each other. This may also mean that they used to meet each other in the shadows, hidden away from other people.
Tonight you will belong to me, only you
: The said soul fusion in Stay Close To Me comes to play here. Sex is something they both can find with other people, but this line makes it explicit that what they had was beyond physical.
You mean the world to me, my lady: Explains itself. Also the lady here is not a problem, since Victor and Georgi don’t care about gender and this is not an issue in the universe of the anime.
I can be as brave as a knight for you: Who’s the prince of his own story?
If you want, I can be like a sharpened knife: A sharpened knife... Like a prince’s sword.
No one loves you like the way I do: OH FOR GOD’S SAKE!!
Let's fly over the moon: Foreshadowing the the song’s ending, until the clouds hide the moon away. Also a metaphor for them to elevate themselves even higher together, since they were dancing under the moonlight before.
Don't get me wrong: This line points to a possible failure at their communication at some point. There may have been a misunderstading, byt what was it? And for what reasons?
Maybe I'm foolish enough to want you to love me: “Maybe this won’t last, maybe I’m just deceiving myself, but that would be enough”.
For only tonight, will you be the one for me Until the clouds hide the moon away...: If the clouds cover the sky, no one can see the stars moving, no one can find out about Georgi and Victor. A secret relationship.
Whenever I touch you, music seems to stop I've never felt this way so true: Again, the line explains itself. The intensity of the feeling is obvious.
In the end, it is possible to see that the songs in fact communicate and tell a story, and it takes us to believe that, yes, Georgi and Victor used to have something in their past, and this something may be a key point to the future development of their respective arcs in the second season.
This can even influenciate Victuuri as well, be it in the (albeit really small) possibility of them breaking up to move forward as individuals and Victor reunites with Georgi again (just like in The Sleeping Beauty) or as narrative fuel for Victor to mature emotionally as he tries not to repeat the mistakes of his past relationship with the one he has with Yuuri now, moving them forward in what they need to work the most: communication.
And it’s not in the songs only that the night is present. In the legend of Akai Ito, a classic seen in japanese romances and inherited from China, there is a story about a God that only appears at night. This god conects soulmates with the red thread of fate e, even if the circumstances separate them and life makes them twist, the two souls are destined to search for each other until they get together. The further they’re away from each other, the sadder they get; the closer, the happier. And the red thread never breaks.
When you put this together with all the hints about Georgi being a Chekhov’s Gunman - the emphasis brought upon his character in interviews, how he’s always in the background of many scenes, his paralels and links with the other main characters -, it’s clear that he can play perfectly the role of a past love of Victor, the first love that’s hinted at the beggining of the anime, and that both his character and this information can still be very important to the series development.
After all, Victor said he had a first love, he just didn’t told us who it was.
And we don’t have only 2, but 3 Yuris here. And one of them was present in Victor’s life before the other Yuris we know. Only him can present us with his role to the narrative.
Georgi is a key character to Yuri!!! On Ice’s narrative, and we all should pay attention to him.

i wanna hold your hand
i had a small thought about phichit and yuuri after looking at this for too long and it accidentally turned into 1.1k of strangers to friends to lovers? anyway.
-
okay so we always talk about pre-victuuri victor and chris and now i'm gonna take a second to talk about pre-victuuri yuuri and phichit. ahem.
considering how outgoing and friendly and warm and charming phichit is i'm gonna assume he made the first move in this friendship. they had been rinkmates for maybe a couple weeks when he decided that katsuki yuuri was too cute and too asian to not be his friend. like. out of all the skaters, he reasoned, he'd share the most cultural similarities with him. plus, he was fucking attractive like. damn. and those glasses????? wow. anyway. he tries to be friendly with him but it's like pulling teeth with this guy he just won't do it. but phichit makes it his mission to befriend this guy, sits with him every day at lunch makes small talk and all he ever gets is like a vague smile and a nod and MAYBE a couple of words like "yes" "no" or "thanks". and phichit is like... getting mad? but more sad because he just wants to be friends.
and one night, phichit is on his phone doing social media things and he hears a soft knock at the door and he's like ??? but answers and its yuuri and it's pretty clear he's been crying. he asks if he can come in and of course phichit lets him. yuuri just sits there for a minute and then apologizes. phichit doesn't say anything but tries to give yuuri a pointed (but kind) look. so yuuri sighs and explains that he's just fucked up practice a lot and he's really homesick and his anxiety has been super bad lately. he says, "i'm sorry if this is presumptuous but.... we're friends right? can i stay here for the night?" and phichit like... stares at him. FRIENDS????? is that what he said?? but basically phichit offers yuuri the bed and goes to lay on his huge bean bag but yuuri blushes and asks if they could share? he's so used to sleeping with Vicchan puppy that the warmth will make him comfortable. they don't cuddle that night but they talk about home and the things they miss and phichit learns that yuuri is just a quiet persona and that he wasn't trying to make it seem like they weren't friends and phichit is relieved and grabs yuuri's hand. and thats how they fall asleep. <3 <3
after that, it becomes phichit's mission to make yuuri come out of his shell. and he does. very slowly. it starts with phichit, of course, who yuuri has become incredibly comfortable around. when they hang out just the two of them yuuri is loud and funny and shines so bright it's hard for phichit to look at him sometimes. but it's even slower with everyone else. but he gets there, smile by smile, lunch by lunch, and honestly phichit is so proud of yuuri. he knows, from all the talks they've had, that his anxiety can sometimes be crippling and devastating and awful and it makes phichit sad. not in a pitying way just.... it's not fair that anyone, especially someone as amazing and bright as yuuri, should have to live with this. so he makes sure to constantly praise yuuri and remind him of his worth and is just the best support yuuri could ask for. it makes him less homesick because phichit is starting to feel like home. the nights they spend together start to outnumber the nights they dont. they start cuddling and holding each other and holding hands even in public.
one night, after a long, long day of practice, they're laying in phichit's bed (yuuri swears it's bigger even though it's the same size as his) and just talking. yuuri has one hand in phichit's hair, just pushing it off his forehead, playing with it, and phichit has one on yuuri's hip, tracing circles over a bruise from a particularly nasty fall. "i hope it doesn't hurt too much" he says. yuuri just shakes his head, not taking his eyes off phichit's face. phichit looks up at yuuri and while they've definitely shared some looks between them, this one is new. "what are you thinking" he asks. "I think I love you" is yuuri's response. there's no waver to his voice, his face looks calm, and even his pulse isn't racing. phichit is speechless for a minute and when he finds his voice all he can say is "...you do?"
and yuuri, easy as ever, says, “Yeah. I do.” Phichit is like
stunned. because he’d never thought that a) yuuri would be so open about his feelings without being prompted and b) that he would feel this way???? at some point in their friendship phichit realized that he felt more than that for yuuri but he was okay with keeping things as they were because yuuri was an amazing friend and he would never want to do anything to ruin that. so even when his one sided crush developed into full on unrequited love, well, he kept that quiet. He knew yuuri didn’t feel the same way and there’s no way yuuri would know how to let him down gently, or even at all. so he loved from a distance ( a close distance but whatever). and it all lead to this moment here. with yuuri just confessing his love for phichit like it was no big deal. instead of asking one of the millions of questions running through his head, instead of saying anything, he tries to push himself up, best he can, and kisses yuuri right on the lips. that took yuuri by surprise, but a pleasant one. he returned the kiss as much as he could from their position and moved his hand to cradle phichit’s face close to his. they stay like that for several minutes, holding each other close, and trading soft kisses back and forth before phichit pulls away, a smile on his face.
“hmm
. i’ve wanted to do that for a long time.” and yuuri smiles back. “me too. but, i’m glad you didn’t. i’m
this is gonna sound selfish but, i’m glad i was able to take my time and sort out my feelings. i knew how you felt for a long time and i really appreciate you giving me the time and space to figure out my own feelings.” and phichit chuckles a little. “yuuri, that’s not selfish. that’s mature and amazing of you.” yuuri’s face turns red with blush and he buries his face in phichit’s hair, pulling him closer to him. “I love you too, by the way,” phichit mumbles into yuuri’s chest. he hears yuuri’s heart beat faster and he smiles. he pulls away and gives yuuri one more kiss before he lays down next to yuuri and holds his hand.

Yea. We have the shipping of Leoji which is extremely long distance but they make it work. Victuuri and a few others like JJ and his fiancee who is I believe the only one who started out already as a couple. ^.^ I can also think of a lot more ships but I just can’t remember how to spell their names though Georgi and Christophe is a crack ship I can see that might be the one in the middle though I’m all for crack ships XD
yeah, and I have more to add to that
Michele and Sara are the ones that show that people come and go, but no matter how hard you try to push them away, family is always there for you and just want what’s best for you
Emil and Michele are the ones that are close, and support each other in special ways that may seem either clingy [Emil] or stone cold [Michele] but it’s clear to each other that they’re there for each other
Seung Gil doesn’t have any real relationship [besides Phichit to people, I know I know], and keeps to himself even though people want to communicate with him, but he doesn’t want complete isolation and would just like to watch others from afar
Mila and Yuri show that two people can be close as friends, and even if they bicker and mess with each other [more on Mila’s end for that one] they’re there to help each other, no matter what the situation
I’d go on but it would cluster dashes
