The younger child of the late-Lord Florent and Lady Perianne, Ceryse is 27 years old, and serves as a lady in waiting to Princess Helaena Targaryen. She has been married to her husband, the grandson of Lord Lyman Beesbury and heir to House Beesbury, Ser Garlan, for a decade, with whom she shares four children, their eldest Alerie, identical twin boys Brandon and Emory, and a younger daughter, Victaria, and their whole family has mainly resided on Dragonstone with Princess Helaena and her husband Prince Aegon since the latter couple took possession of the seat over two years ago. The closest friend of Helaena since the pair were toddlers, Ceryse's favorite hobby is gardening, and when she is not spending her time with the Princess and some combination of both's children, she is sure to be found tending to her plants. She often gets extremely engrossed in her gardening, taking great pride in her work, and also has a fondness for moths, something she shares with the Princess of Dragonstone. the extent of ayssa's manipulation of anything would be upon her playing cyvasse with various friends or people that would indulge her in a light hearted game. she's never possessed a brain for scheming nor intrigue but strives for people to be unaware of it. her naivety lies in her ignorance of the world outside of westeros and other cultures rather than her immediate world around her.

at no point does alyssa ever want to get married, yet understands that it's a duty that she'll have to eventually endure. her hope is that she could push back the wedding itself until the paege family no longer wants to continue to make the betrothal, yet knows that's a foolish hope. considering that it is already in the cards, she's slowly starting to warm up to the idea as she doesn't like to feel as though she's being rude to another over a situation they both have little control over.

archery is a sport that alyssa indulges in frequently. while she doesn't enjoy any sort of hunt, she does like to see the different animals and will sit in the gardens to watch the birds and attempt to spot their characteristics and write them down in her notebook she keeps tucked in her skirts.

history.

trystane possessed no memory of his mother, only a babe when the gods took her, but the stories his mother's family told them painted a picture of a kind woman who had adored her son, particularly after initially struggling to conceive a child, and was surely watching over them. his aunt, the heir of house graceford, and his maternal grandmother decided it would be their responsibility to watch over their grandson since lady alyna could not. either his aunt or grandmother ensured at least one of them were present in highgarden, overseeing trystane's upbringing.

all was well in highgarden until lord garth remarried. lady victaria, after working so hard to marry the tyrell lord, wasn't pleased that her firstborn wouldn't be the one to inherit highgarden. the fact that alyna's ghost haunted the halls ( a portrait still hanging, her relatives a constant presence in the castle ) didn't help. and garth loved his son. as soon as trystane was old enough, their father allowed his son to shadow his meetings and accompany him on any diplomatic travels. the father and son would often go riding together or simply sit in silence in the garden, reading and discussing books. victaria attempted to ingratiate herself, fashioning herself as a mother figure to the heir. she might've viewed trystane as too gentle, too benevolent but that could eventually be crushed. only trystane's grandmother and aunt stood in the way. they didn't believe the new lady of highgarden had good intentions. thus, a silent war over who would have influence over the highgarden heir began.

trystane's longstanding closeness with their maternal relatives granted them an initial advantage. when they suggested that trys spend some time at holyhall there was no reason for garth to refuse. every year, trystane would spend a handful of months with their cousins, being raised alongside them as if they were additional siblings and under the watchful eye of his grandmother. the gracefords encouraged him to not sacrifice his kind heart and remain true to himself, which proved a sharp contrast to their stepmother who constantly tried to get him to toughen up.

a downside to their kindness, however, was that in his youth trys wished to see the best in all. he genuinely believed that his stepmother, like his grandmother and aunt, was only doing what she thought was the best. they tried impressing her with his sharp mind but it never seemed enough. he felt guilty that they couldn't bring himself to meet her expectations, a guilt victaria, once recognizing it, began taking advantage of. the first step was pulling trys away from the gracefords, convincing him that the heir should spend most of his time at highgarden, and then once distance was established, she began feeding them poor advice. lord garth had started entrusting his son with more responsibilities and initially trystane thrived, his mind aiding him well, but then, believing his stepmother was only trying to help, began stumbling. victaria feigned innocence whenever questions were posed to her, claiming trystane was refusing to heed her advice.

with tensions growing in highgarden, lady victaria suggested that trystane, two and twenty at the time, take some time away from the reach to clear his head. still believing her advice was well meant, trystane agreed. they traveled on and off for almost seven years. he returned to highgarden every now and then but never for long - oblivious to how their stepmother seemed to always be pushing for him to leave again. the frequent letters that trystane dutifully penned, wanting to keep their family informed and ensure their return wasn't needed, were "accidentally" lost and none of his father's missives reached him. so the young lord remained unaware of the growing frustrations, particularly from his father.

garth tyrell, however, refused to give up on his son no matter how angry he grew at trystane's actions. it didn't mean the ruling lady didn't try, gathering a few supporters to her side, particularly as more years passed. eventually it was his graceford relatives who alerted them of the growing trouble at home. one of their cousins located him in essos and told him all that had been transpiring in his absence. immediately, trystane returned home.

a mixed reaction greeted him when they rode through the gates of highgarden. his stepmother quietly displeased when she learned this return wasn't temporary while his father torn between elation and anger. but trystane swore that they'd make up for his absence, prove himself worthy once again of his father's praise and trust.

in the five years since his return, trystane did just that. he dedicated himself fully to his duties as heir, mending relationships with vassal houses who'd grown to question him and showing that he was not only capable but the correct choice to one day hold the seat of highgarden. any influence victaria tyrell had once held over him vanished. in the eyes of the law she'd done nothing wrong but never again would trystane trust her. when he needed advice, he sought out his father or his aunt. there was also a clear change in trystane. the jovial, trusting, and open man was gone, replaced by a far quieter one who was hesitant to trust many, worrying that they too would betray or manipulate him, beyond a small circle of friends. and despite earning a position on the small council a year ago, he still sometimes doubted his abilities due to his failure to see through his stepmother's manipulations. however, he kept such doubts well hidden, remaining committed to continuing proving himself worthy.

headcanons.

trystane is not a fighter in the traditional sense. he can wield a sword but he isn't anywhere near the most skilled nor does he enjoy sword fighting. it's nothing more than a necessary skill they must know as a precaution. he has never taken part in a joust or melee, and has no intentions to.

an avid reader. he has brought about a large amount of growth in highgarden's library over the years, many of which he brought home from his travels in essos, and is constantly on the look for more books. due to the citadel being so close in oldtown and trys always looking to learn more, he has visited the institution often to learn from the maesters and explore their library.

one of his favorite areas of study is botany. if he isn't in the library or his office, odds are that trystane is in the gardens or even out in the fields overseeing the harvest. they like seeing what new flower variations he can grow based on his research.

he looks up to his father very much. he is immensely relieved that their relationship has mended and that he has regained his father's trust.

like their father, trystane is wary of the targaryens but he knows better than to mention it. he's relieved that his position on the council will grant him the ability to watch over his sister once she marries into the royal family.

his years of travel brought him all across westeros before he sailed across the narrow sea. he loved essos and spent a large amount of time in each city learning about the culture, history, and people.

the pressure for him to marry has steadily been growing but his worries about choosing the wrong spouse has made him hesitate.

has a very strong sense of duty and justice.

despite his mistrustfulness, trystane remains a kind soul. his heart is large and he doesn't hesitate to exchange his hand to those in need. he is more cautious to those he shows their heart to, but no one can deny the benevolence that dictates the heir's actions. some might view it as a weakness but trys continues holding fast to it rather than letting the world corrupt him as it has others.

When she was naught but a sapling herself, Clarice conceived the idea of breeding a new apple cultivar that would rival Rowan Gold-Tree's boon to the land. It was nigh on four-and-ten years later that Clarice's apple grafts finally flowered and yielded fruit, whereupon Goldengrove's orchards were rife with a new variety of golden apples with a pink blush. They were a novelty in her household and essential in nearby market towns, with many carts and jams being sent to the motherhouses and orphanages of the Reach. At the tourney to celebrate the new lord of Highgarden, Clarice presented Lord Lorence with one of her prized apples as a token of her favor at the lists, much to the ridicule of the attendants that day. Lord Lorence, recently jilted by Victaria, found it within himself to be charmed by the gesture. At the archery match, he shot an arrow through the apple on the head of a hedge knight and thereafter his courtship began in earnest. But Lorence died at the hands of Dornish spearmen along the Prince's Pass, and so that promise died with him too, her loins and the seeds of her invention never to bear fruit again. The steward of House Tyrell is a thorn on Clarice's side; his absence from court is proof of this. He argues with her for the sake of provocation, citing her ignorance borne from youth, and her tenderheartedness due to her sex. She has appointed him keeper of Highgarden and to rule in her name until she returns from King's Landing. After the death of Lord Lorence, Clarice has taken extreme measures to safeguard the safety of her son, Lyonel, that verge on outlandish. She is known to go into fits of hysteria and rend the skin of her face bloody at any perceived danger. Clarice is beholden to the whims of her grasping brother, Ser Franklyn, and her ambitious mother, Lady Selyse. Backstory:

Cain Florent was born in Brightwater Keep twenty four years ago. His mother, sadly, passed away in the birthing, with Agramore being quoted as saying he was her “parting gift” to him

Cain spent most of his life assuming his elder sibling would be legitimized and rule after their father, so he did not exactly take things seriously. A notorious prankster and partier, it was when he entered his teens that it stopped being endearing and started to become a problem.

There were two things as a child that could keep his attention: swordplay and history. He loved learning about the ancient days of Westeros, the age of heroes, the andal invasion, and all the different legendary figures in their history. He soaked up all the information he could like a sponge.

When he was young, and after causing a diplomatic incident with his behavior during a visit from their vassals, his father had enough, and sent him to squire in Oldtown with the Hightowers, where he fell in love with the heir to Oldtown. Those years were some of the best in his life, and were instrumental in forging him from the arrogant teenager into the man he is today.

He spent quite a bit of time at the citadel, where tearing through old tomes he decided upon one simple truth: the wrong banner flew over Highgarden. For too long, the Tyrells held a title that should have been theirs. And he’d had enough. The Tyrell banner would be ripped off of Highgarden and in its place would fly the fox of Florent.

He returned home with a knighthood and a mission: restore the Reach to its rightful owners. He was focused, dedicated, finally growing into the future Lord he was meant to be.

But a tension hung in the air of Brightwater Keep. Because his succession still stood challenged by his elder half-sibling despite her bastard heritage.

There had always been issues between them, but before his time in Oldtown they had been in the background. He hadn’t been interested in ruling so he didn’t really care. But that was before, and now he had a goal. And the truth was? Until their last name was Florent and not Flowers it would be him who would take the mantle.

Rumors fly high about the time their father was sick. Cain knows the truth of himself, however, and knows what he is guilty of and what he isn’t. He did not shoot down the raven petitioning for Florys’ legitimization. But when he learned of it, he knew what would happen. Nobody would believe him. It was the obvious answer, who else would stand to gain? Why would anyone else bother? No matter how much he protested, nobody would believe him innocent. So he did not protest it. Sure, he denied it when it was spoken to his face. But he put no more effort in to clear his name than that. Let them believe what they want: he had work to do.

Personality

Cain is charismatic. He has an ease of speaking that gets people to listen when he talks, and a charm that can get people to feel comfortable and at ease quickly.

He has a quick wit and a dry sense of humor, one that has sharpened substantially since he returned from his days in Oldtown.

He is quick to smile, but those who know him well would note that it seems just that little bit forced. Not like the easygoing smile of the past, this one is labored. Even if most wouldn’t note it.

He loves his family, his half-siblings mean the world to him and he would defend them with his life if need be without a second’s hesitation.

Cain loves to fight, loves the feel of a sword or lance in his hand. He’s an accomplished tourney knight, having great success in the lists.
