for the wip game - [jaytim] leave the world behind?

ahhh, so i actually shared the not fic/summary of this in response to an ask i got a while ago but i don’t… have a link to it hakdjdkdj

BUT i’ve been making progress to turn it into a full fledged fic

“leave the world behind” is a sort of place holder title. it’s about tim & jason quitting vigilantism together—something that jason’s been wanting to do for a while, but refrained from because he thought it meant losing tim. the bulk of the fic is basically like… 4 times jason thought tim was going to leave, and then the 1 time he realized tim was staying

i have the beginning & end fully written, it’s just the middle i need to come together shsjdjj

Words finally return to Jason. “Are you… Are you asking…”

They leave him again. He can’t quite force the words out. Or, really, even decide what he wants to say.

Are you asking me to leave Gotham with you? Are you asking me to run away with you? Are you asking me what I think you’re asking? Are you asking me to retire?

They all boil down to the same question, but the phrasing—

Which one can he say without giving away how much he really, really wants to say yes.

Tim leans forward, setting the tablet down on the coffee table. Then he twists, taking Jason’s face in his hands.

“Yes,” he says. “I’m asking you to settle down with me. For real. No more uniforms. No more missions. No more explosions. No more fighting for our lives. No more toxins, pollens, or other substances. Just—you and me and the rest of our long, happy lives together.” His mouth quirks a little even as he searches Jason’s face. Scrutinizing. Digging.

Jason—

Jason swallows. The pit in his stomach doesn’t grow wider, but it hasn’t disappeared either.

He knows.

That’s all Jason can figure. Tim knows that Jason needs to leave Gotham—that he’s been thinking about it, and rather than wait for Jason to decide on his own… he’s giving him the go ahead. And not just that, but…

Tim is offering him Bruce’s hat-trick. The magical third option, where Jason gets to go—and keep everything he’s gained.

Jason knows in his bones that this isn’t what Tim wants—that Tim wants to stay. To keep fighting. He chose this, after all, so many years ago.

Jason asked him about it once, why he didn’t walk away when he had the chance. Because he did. Several times, Tim could have stepped away. Said no more, and turned his back on Bruce and his fruitless, endless crusade.

Tim told him that Robin was the first thing that ever made him feel like he had a purpose. That he mattered. He wouldn’t, couldn’t, give that up.

Jason could understand that. He felt the same way, up until he didn’t. Until he got blown up and replaced and realized that nothing he’d ever done had mattered at all. He’d thought his crusade as Hood would be different. Maybe it could have been, if he hadn’t capitulated to Bruce’s demands. If he hadn’t bothered with Bruce at all. If he’d just come back to Gotham and killed the damn clown without all the fanfare.

He’ll never know, now.

He doesn’t want to, either.

Jason would rather live with the uncertainty than knowing for sure he’d made the wrong decision.

Tim would be miserable, following Jason out of Gotham.

Yet…

God help him.

Jason is a selfish man, because what comes out of his mouth is, “Yeah. Yeah, babybird. Let’s get out of this hell hole.”

Tim could use a vacation. He’ll probably even enjoy it at first, once the initial adjustment period wears off. They can be happy together out there, for a little while. Until the misery sets in. And then…

Jason will let him go.

Tim smiles at him, so brightly it almost hurts. And then he throws his leg over Jason’s, straddling his thighs so he can kiss him. Jason kisses back, sliding his hands up Tim’s shirt to rest on his waist. Everyone else says Tim runs cool, but Jason’s never felt it. To him, Tim is blazing; the warmth of his skin nearly searing his palms.

They skip patrol that night.

Not to make out, tragically, but to plan. (They do make out a little, though; talking about their futures with kiss-bitten and swollen lips. Tim never does move out of Jason’s lap, either.) ) By the time the sun rises, they have an outline for retirement.

For the first time in a long while, Jason feels a flutter of hope in his chest.

level of study: 1st year of graduate school down! [Surreally, I’m a second year] MS/PhD

about your thesis/dissertation:

My main project is about getting different computational chemistry programs to work together under one system so that people can take the best computations of each program to get a clearer, more informed picture of the molecule(s) they’re looking at.

your experience with graduate school/university thus far:

I’m lucky to have a PI/mentor who understands that I don’t want to go to academia after my PhD and is supportive both passively and actively.

I still find there are lots of moments that I feel lonely, whether it’s doing research or seeing others in my cohort doesn’t necessarily abate that feeling

what do you hope to accomplish with this challenge:

I would love to be a little bit more active in scientific blog-o-sphere. But more importantly, I want to push myself to think about my graduate school experience in a different way, and hopefully gain a new perspective on it, perhaps even a deeper understanding of what I do.

favorite tv series:  Currently, it’s Steven Universe for the animated realm and I love me some comedies like The Good Place  and Fresh Off the Boat

places you wish to visit in a near future:

York, England– a couple of my best friends live there, and I would love to see them.

where do you see you self in five years:

Hopefully, starting my first job after finishing school!

meaning behind your url: long ago (high school) one of the adjectives that people had signed my yearbook about me was that I was bright, and I like the idea of living life in full color, so vibrant! An old and cherished nickname of mine is “belles” for the latter half of my name. I also have a fairly loud laugh, so I figured ‘vibrantbells’ for reminding me to a) live to the fullest and b) don’t ever quiet yourself for anyone else and be like a bell, chiming and announcing that they’re there and present.

random fact about you: I’m actually not a big watcher of science-related media, particularly when people recommend it to me, i.e. Breaking Bad, The Martian, etc. It feels like people recommend these types of shows and movies to me because of what I do, but unless I get personally interested on my own, it just feels like I’m watching because I’m a scientist/in the field of science. I did finally get into The Big Bang Theory about six -eight months ago.

Yeah, I'm fixing my tags, so some of the links on my tag page may be broken for a little bit ^^'  I have about 20,000 posts to go through, so it may take a while! I'm pretty sure I changed "bickslow" to "Bixlow" so just substitute the new spelling into the tag and it should work!  I don't know when I'll get around to fixing the links - I'm also working on a whole new tag page as well!

Haha, it's a small world, eh?  Jeely is a pretty close friend of mine here on tumblr - she goes by "Zephiraz" here and I'm one of her beta readers for Fraxus fan fiction!  So yes, I've read "One of Those Times" and it's unbelievably cute! <3

Yeah, I already have a "side blog" of sorts that I can use - a blog I use only for customizing themes.  But, it's on a different account that I go on in a different browser, so it's a bit of a pain.  But that's what I'll probably end up doing - but thanks for taking the time to stop by and give some helpful advice! ^_^

Hmmm, it depends on who you ask, really.  I'm pretty sure it's "Juvia Lockser" and "Gajeel Redfox" though.  I tend to go with the spellings that the Fairy Tail Wiki uses - except I use "Bixlow" instead of "Bickslow" :)

There are different spellings of the names because 1) before an official English translation (and the official romanization of names) was released, translators probably had to sound out the names as they would be pronounced in Japanese, then romanize them, and 2) other languages' translations, such as French and German, use different spellings of names as well.  For instance, in the French translation, I'm pretty sure Jellal is spelled "Gerard."  I hope this clears a few things up for you! :)

slow going unfortunately; i have 3 chapters of it (which covers up to chapter 4 of honey, since i didn’t write a tim analog to honey chapter 1) which i think is the same as the last time i talked about it 😔 i’ve been preoccupied with fics with deadlines this year and i haven’t worked on honey & honey tim pov as much as i would have liked

that said!! i do like writing tim’s version of things a lot! sneaking in little extra details is sooo fun even tho sometimes i want to go back and tweak dialogue or actions 😂
