Animation Masterlist
I'm probably gonna update this a couple times as I remember more, but I wanna share some of my favorite youtube animations from over the years!!
These are specifically animations I remember watching as a kid in middle and highschool, so like, 2015 and before. And this is by no means an exhaustive list, if you have shorts you wanna add, add em in a reblog!
I'll include a few of my favorite pixar shorts at the bottom too, but this is hopefully going to be majority independent artists and capstone projects.
Contre Temps - The Contre Temps Team
Coda - And Maps And Plans
Catsing Call - Phi Kernbach, Lina Schlotter, Anne-Sophie Bode, and Maren Schildmeyer
Reversal of the Heart - Carolyn FiddleGriff Animation
Kagemono: The Shadow Folk - Sabrina Cotugno
The Life of Death - Marsha Onderstijn
Burger Boss - Rachel Kim
Diamond Jack - Rachel Kim
The Face Shop - Nobiechan Animation
Welcome to Hell - Erica Wester
BUTTER LOVER - Kinga
Maddie - Kinga
Witch Bunny - Fernanda Dias
VEWN APPRECIATION CORNER:
floatland - vewn
agoraphobia - vewn
motivational video movie - vewn (pretty sure this was the first one I ever saw)
fluffy's third eye -vewn
kittykat96 -vewn
dead end - vewn
NON-INDIE ANIMATION THAT'S STILL REALLY GOOD:
Kitbull - PIXAR (I literally sobbed while adding this)
On Your Mark (1995) - Hayao Miasaki
Everything on this list minus On Your Mark was basically what I grew up watching and rewatching when Adventure Time wasn't on.
Again, feel free to add your own faves in the reblogs!! I'd love to see what everyone else enjoys too.

Have you ever checked out Victoria Vincent (vewn)’s work? Her short films remind me a lot of your authorial voice, if that makes any sense. It’s something to do with the cadence and themes of it, if you know what I mean, especially this Dead End (https://youtu.be/RUaOpH31IRU)
Oh holy shit!! I just watched it and YEAH!!! I get it, that's very similar to how I write. I will definitely be checking out vewn's other videos, I loved that. Tysm!!

who is/are your fav artist(s)
@vewn is always my #1 favorite. Her style is so distinctive and intriguing, you should definitely check out her animations on youtube. Mask Dog, Dead End, and Twins in Paradise are my top three of her's probably
@jmfenner91 I discovered more recently, I am obsessed with his work. I'm a lover of vibrant colors, strange eyeball creatures, and shapes. His work is so fascinating to me. I'm also a sucker for a strong blue/red clash and a creature with a horn. Here's a few pieces I really like: x, x, x
@astrono77153462. I love their work for similar reasons, amazing shapes and color. Incredible detailing, here's a few pieces I particularly like: x, x, x

dead end (youtube.com)
Name of work: Dead End, (2019)
Creator: Vewn
Medium: Animation
Contributed by: Amy and Tess
Notes:
What I liked
The overall style - the rough, scratchy line work
Use of traditional elements/materials overlaying the digital to introduce texture
Use of perspective - more so the breaking of typical perspective rules
Storytelling:
How character traits/relationships are revealed
Narrative elements quickly set up in first scene, explored/expanded upon later - this is continued throughout animation - E.g. the knife - a quick moment of the knife between the fingers introduces the topic of the next exchange between the characters - the audience always knows before (like we're approaching the film from the student's perspective, the counsellor always a step behind).
The use of cuts/transitions (hard cuts mainly used) - Especially in the first exchange between counsellor and student - quick cuts, no settling, neither character really cares what the other has to say (very intentional - and the narrative choice conveys a carelessness between the characters)
The time it gives to smaller narrative elements - the picking at a hangnail (reveals character traits - moves audience away from the conversation - again playing into the 'I don't care, I don't wanna be here' of the student) Though the film uses primarily hard cuts, flat environments/sets, it still feels dynamic - there's a lot of movement conveyed through perspective, texture and the unsettled linework used
Unsettled, chaotic feeling - all the different angles of the same shot used - we see the scene from this perspective, and this perspective and this perspective etc. LOVE THE FIRST EXCHANGE BETWEEN STUDENT AND COUNSELLOR

Loose ideas about the film
A guy, called "the tenant" for now, is renting a house for a couple nights and finds a piece of paper with House Rules on the dining room table when he enters the house.
The rules start off simple and get progressively weirder and spookier. Instead of following the rules, which are basically now warnings, the tenant gets too curious and investigates.
The idea is that his curiosity leads him to investigate the rules, which leads him to the next rule in the list and so on. At the end, the last rule is what kills him. (More details about this in the treatment)
I was thinking the film would start off with him already dead, his body parts on the floor and him still bleeding out. He says the cliché "you're probably wondering how I got here" and it goes back to the beginning where he enters the house and he narrates from there.
Still deciding if it should be serious or funny, but leaning much more towards comedy. Thinking dark humor vibes like Courage but more graphic and mixed with Vewn's art style.

A REVIEW OF CAT CITY BY ICH4 ON TUMBLR
Okay, so for my day two of this challenge I watched Cat City by Vewn because I don't have much time to watch a movie more than hour. Beside, I'm not in a mood to watch a long movie.
So let's start our review with some basic informations about this short movie!
INFORMATIONS ABOUT CAT CITY BY VEWN:
Sound Design by: Josh Yeung
Music by: Ask My Bull
Recorded by: Josh Yeung
Voices by: Jonni Phillips, Isabel Higgins, and Aster Pang
Drawing by: Victoria Vincent (Vewn)
Story by: Victoria Vincent (Vewn)
AND MANY MORE INFORMATIONS...
Okay, without any further do let's start our review!
First, let's talk about the artstyle. Vewn artstyle is unique and I always adore it. I got hooked since I watched Dead End by her. I know this might be a subjective opinion, so I rate this 10/10? YES.
Second, about the plot itself. The plot is about a cat that runaway from home to a town to live in there. He got a job at a salon, received a money, and just like that. Until one day he heard someone's scream. At first, he was okay with it. But later, he's not okay with it and his life started to go to downhill. He got fired, etc. After dealing with his problem, he back home. The end.
I think the plot is simple, reaaally simple. But there's a symbolic behind it. For me, it's about a routine that kills you slowly. *starts playing No Surprises by Radiohead. So I rate this 7/10.
For the scorring itself is reaally good! I always enjoy the scorring. So I rate 10/10.
The overall review for this movie is 8/10. It's always nice to see her work ;)
I think that's all I can review about this short movie for now. Thank you so much for read this review until the end. Love you.
