Alice felt numb. Everything was confusing, everything hurt and the only thing she truly wanted to do was to scream out loud. Gideon was gone. Malcolm and Eloise were there. Isabelle was crying the loss of her son, wishing to die alongside with him. Her life had always been a mess, but how it suddenly came up to this?

At least, Alice felt secure while she was in her uncle’s arms, but by the moment he let go of her, she didn’t quite know what to do. The girl looked around, terrified and unsure, then her gaze met Eloise’s and she disappeared from there. It got her disoriented for a couple of moments, looking around to find herself standing right in front of the Gold Manor, with Eloise by her side, sliding a hand carefully down her cheek.

"What are you doing?" Alice yelled, shifting away from her mother's touch. "Why did you bring me here?"

A lazy smile slowly stretched in Eloise's lips, but her eyes remained still, focused in an invisible point behind her daughter, showing only coldness and madness. Alice felt some chills as she realised that woman, who seemed so lost in darkness was really her mother, and for her, apparently, there was no going back.

"Because as soon as the moon covers the sun, you'll be able to choose for yourself,” Eloise explained. “You will break the curse, if you choose the opposite of what calls you."

"And why would I do that?"

"Surely because you would set me free, darling, then we could go very far away from here."

Swallowing, she took another step back.

"No, I - " she shook her head. "I won't do this."

Eyes narrowing, Eloise circled Alice, measuring her from head to toe, like she was trying to find her daughter's weakness, something that would convince her to do what she wanted, however she didn't find any.

"Alice, you must, if you don't, every child that comes after you will have to face this curse," Eloise said, appealing. "You don't want this, do you?"

As they talked, the day started to slowly get dark, the eclipse making it look like the night had just arrived. Alice looked up, feeling a heavy warmth settle on her chest burning like fire. Eloise gasped as she placed a hand above her heart, a new power invading her and making her body tremble.

"This is not right," the girl murmured. "I'm not Light nor Darkness. I can't be one."

She closed her eyes, splaying a hand in the air, but not to receive the power the moon was gifting her with, but to change it. Alice wouldn't let a curse define her fate, nor lead the rest of her life. She didn't need to be one thing or the other, she just wanted to be herself. A delighted laugh left her mouth when the eclipse started to end, the moon moving away from the sun and the burst of power inside her, settling down.

"What have you done?" Eloise asked, shocked.

"I've made a choice."

A glow passed through her eyes and even thought Alice couldn't see it for herself she felt it. The claiming was over and by the angry expression in Eloise's face, she could tell what she did had just turned out right.

"You'll regret it," her mother said. "I promise you will."

Then she disappeared in the wind, like she had never been there at all.

Isabelle's heart was wrecked. She felt like a part of herself had died with Gideon and she couldn't find the will to continue living, but somehow, when she saw Rumford falling still beside their boy, a whole new pain settled on her heart. Her son was gone; she couldn't lose the love of her life too, or God knew, she would go mad.

Fighting with Regina to free herself from her embrace, Belle ran to where her boys were and reached to touch Rumford's face, some of her tears falling to his brow. She touched his cheek, brushing the hair away from his face and pressing a kiss to his lips, but no reaction came from him. Reaching two fingers to his neck, Belle tried to find his pulsing point, however there was none, because the blood wasn't running strong in his veins anymore; his heart had stopped.

She was just partly aware of Mrs. Potts and Regina saying things to her, calling her name desperately and trying to shook her shoulders to make her leave her hyponotic state, however Belle couldn't concentrate in anything but the fact that another person she loved was gone and she would be left alone and heartbroken.

"Rum, no," Isabelle cried. "Rumford, no, please no."

Then, in the back of her mind, she heard something different and she actually felt, the magic in the air. There was a gasp and she turned her head to the other side to see her son coughing repeatedly, before sitting up, as if nothing had happened with him.

"Mother?"

His voice was sleepy, confused, but he was in fact talking and Belle couldn't contain herself. She threw her arms around his neck, and he hugged her back with a little bit of uncertainty, allowing the mother to snuggle her face on the curve of his warm neck.

"Gideon," she respired, pulling away just enough to cup his cheek and look into his brown eyes. "But how - "

How did you come back from the dead? She wanted to ask, because Isabelle had spent years working on the Lunae Libri and knew very well, there was no coming back once one had passed away, no magic was powerful enough to do it. At least, not any known Light magic.

"Gold made an exchange," it was Mrs. Potts who explained, "his life for the boy's."

And then she understood, there was yes, a way of reliving the dead: making an exchange or... She looked down her love's body, an idea occurring her. It had price to pay in the end, of course it had, but it would be worth it. Suddenly she felt her face get wet, but Isabelle wasn't crying anymore, so for a short moment, she furrowed, before looking back at her son and realising it was Gideon who was crying.

She grabbed his hand, leaning closer against him, knowing that even with all the problems they had this loss would be felt by her boy, like Gaston's never was. And the difference between these two deaths, wasn't just the fact that Rumford was Gideon's real father, while her deceased husband wasn't, but because in the short time, Rum and Gideon had known each other, all he did was to try approaching his son, and more than that, Rumford had died to save him.

"Call Ruby," Isabelle demanded, looking straight at Mrs. Potts.

"What?"

"Call Ruby now."

Mrs. Potts took Gideon and a very surprised (then very sad) Alice home. The girl had arrived in tears, telling them between sobs what happened with her mother, but it was when she laid eyes on her uncle that Alice really broken down. Belle suggested they headed back to the Manor, so she could calm herself while the others waited for Ruby's arrival. Of course, Mrs. Potts wasn't agreeing with any of this, but she didn't have any saying in that matter.

So, when Ruby appeared, still wearing her red civil war gown, holding the Pandora's box in a hand, Belle took it from her and opened the lid, allowing the magic inside to take Rumford's body, keeping it safe, locked inside there. Isabelle breathed in a little more relieved.

"Are you sure this is going to work?" Ruby asked, seeing how she held the box close to her chest.

"I don't know," the Keeper confessed, "I'll have to wait and see, but I can't just give up on him."

Regina took if from her, giving the box a small smile as she kicked some rocks with the tip of her heeled boots.

"I'm locking it with magic on the family's crypt, so only you can enter it, Belle."

"Thank you, Regina."

She sighed as they watched Gold's sister walk ahead to the place where the cript was hidden, and no one would dare to go. Belle felt better although it was still difficult to understand that her plan could work just as easily as it couldn't.

"One year?" Ruby inquired, hugging her shoulders.

"A whole damned year," Belle nodded.

Her friend gestured for them to go to the Manor, where her son would be waiting, curious about what she had just done and Belle would have to explain everything for him, asking all the people involved to keep the secret for now, because even if Malcolm was dead, he had a whole bunch of criminal friends who would love to come after then and as long as his death remained a mystery.

Isabelle allowed Ruby to go ahead, but stayed there for a moment more, staring at the sky and noticing that in the middle of her despair, she had lost the eclipse she waited so much to see. Surely, it didn’t matter now, mainly when Belle had lots of more important things to think about. She hugged herself, against the cold wind and felt some fresh tears start to blurry her eyes.

"Thank you for what you did, my love," Belle said to the empty gardens, as if Rumford was still there by her side. "You saved our son and now I'm going to save you."

Then, she turned around and headed home.

Later that day, when the night had already arrived, the guests had left the Gold Manor and Alice made some of their things appear, so they could spend the night with her, Belle sat at the living room with a mug of hot tea wrapped in her hands as she looked around Rumford’s house with real attention for the first time, wishing he wasn’t there to show her his collective items or play piano while she read near the fireplace. She had never felt so lonely, not even after she married Gaston and was still feeling heartbroken to not be able to share a life with the man she really loved.

But the difference was now there was now, Rum wasn’t just away, he was somewhere she couldn’t reach and wouldn’t be able to exchange love letters with her like they’ve done for so long. Taking a sip of her tea, Belle turned her head to the other side, when she heard steps behind her and saw that Gideon was coming to join her in the sofa, already wearing a clean pair of pyjamas.

He smiled at his mother, sliding to the empty seat by her side and leaning his head against her shoulder. Belle pulled her mug away, petting his hair gently, grateful to have her boy alive and safe by her side.

"I want to say that I'm sorry," Gideon started, "for everything. I really wanted to be able to say it to my father myself."

"He knows," she assured him. "And he loved you, Gideon, that's why he did that."

His eyes were wet with the tears he so wished to be able to hide and Belle kissed the top of his head, inhaling the essence of his shampoo calming her heart and making her feel that somehow everything would be fine in the end. Her son moved to lay his head on the cushion above her lap, just like he always did when he was a child.

"Are we really going to move here?"

"Yes," Belle smiled, knowing it was the right thing to do. "I need to take care of Alice and our house doesn't have an extra room."

Despite of all, Gideon chuckled.

"Mrs. Potts must not be happy with that."

"Oh, I can guarantee you, she isn't."

His eyes slammed shut and he exhaled a long breath. Gideon never thought Gold’s death could feel so painful, but he had sacrificed himself to save him, he actually traded his life for someone he only knew for a couple of months. He never truly realised his father cared that much about him, maybe because he didn’t want to see, he didn’t want to have any hopes this time around he would have a real father, but now it was too late for any of this.

"I love you, mama," Gideon said. "I just wish I could go back and change things."

"Yeah, me too."

No matter what happened in one’s life school didn’t stop. So, on Monday morning, Gideon and Alice left the old Cadillac, heading to the building where they were to have an English class. None of them wanted to be there, but Belle was impassive and there was no way they could manage to convince her they needed another day at home. It had been a quite tiring and sad weekend; they moved all of their belongings to the Gold Manor, to Storybrooke's residents’ horror as Belle declared to a few people who had asked, that she was in a relationship with Rumford Gold.

Nobody mentioned of course, he was trapped inside a magical item, getting prepared to come back to life, if everything went according to his mother's plan. But for now, he had a new big room and found some entertainment hearing Mrs. Potts complaining about Belle's recent choice of moving houses. He smiled to himself, poking Alice's ribs to annoy her.

"Light and Darkness together, you're clever," Gideon said, praising her for the smart solution she found to her problem.

Alice was probably the only known Caster with both powers now, not one thing nor the other, just unique.

"Thank you, dear cousin, but I've always known that."

They were entering the school when Gideon spotted Roderick arriving with his bike and stopped walking. He had been thinking about the things he said for days now and he was eager to have a proper talk with him.

"Wait a second," Gideon told Alice, already running to where the other boy was. "Roderick!"

Turning around, Roderick saw him and his cheeks became bright red, Gideon saw how much he seemed to suddenly get shy, but he couldn't let this conversation wait anymore.

"I have a class to go now and I'm a bit late."

"We haven't talked for days," Gideon instead.

"I know," Roderick breathed, shaking his head. "But I've killed you and I'm ashamed."

Gideon reached for his arm, an attempt to say with a small touch that it was alright, he understood what had happened and he didn't blame Roderick. He never could.

"It wasn't your fault."

"You moved away," Rod said in a low tone of voice, blinking repeatedly as he fought his tears.

Gideon smiled at how fool he sounded. There was a lot he had to talk to Roderick, some sad feelings he needed to share with someone who knew him deep down and some happy news only Rod would know how to properly react to. He missed him and he couldn't imagine a time where this boy wouldn't be a part of his life.

"That was my mother's decision."

"Yeah."

"Listen," he started, "I've heard what you said before I passed out."

"Oh," now Roderick's face was bright red and he looked about to ran very far away from there. "I - "

Gideon interrupted him by pulling Roderick close and pressing a kiss to his lips. It was awkward and messy and half of the school saw it, but Gideon didn't care, all he wanted was for Rod to know his feelings were mutual.

"I love you too, idiot."

Walking inside the library, Alice took off her soaked oversized coat, all wet because of the rain. She groaned at it pulling the piece of clothing in a hook and looking around the empty room, thinking again that Storybrooke's residents could really do some reading. Alice ran her hands through her messy hair, face contracting in a frown, because the bubbly librarian who should be there, was anywhere to be seen.

"Ruby? Where are you?" The girl yelled. "Aunt Belle said you should come over to dinner, she is looking forward to show you the new buys for the - "

Her phrase was interrupted by the sight of a shy smiley blonde girl coming from behind some shelves. She wore a flower stamped dress and a big blue cardigan; definitely a pretty girl and one she had never seen around town before.

"Hello," she said softly.

"Oh, hi. Who are you?"

Coming from the same place where the girl did, Ruby appeared adjusting a black hat atop of her head.

"Alice, this is my new appretiance, Robin Mills," the librarian presented them. "She came from England to be the next Keeper of the Storybrooke's Lunae Libri."

Oh, so not an ordinary girl, Alice thought. It was good, because at least that Robin wasn't going to be one of these stupid people who judged her by her family's reputation or her quiet, weird manners. She thought she might like her.

"Nice to meet you."

"You too," Robin answered still smiling.

Ruby looked between the two of them before taking her place behind the circulation desk, opening a book as she gave Alice a quick glance.

"Care to give her a proper tour around, missy?"

Alice nodded.

"I would be obliged."

She took the keys of the Lunae Libri from Ruby's hand and lead Robin to the elevator. That was an interesting day.

One year later.

 "Are you sure you want to do this?" Ruby asked for the tenth time that day. "You'll never be allowed inside the Lunae Libri again. The work of your life gone, with this simple spell."

Isabelle took a deep sharp breath. She knew what it meant of course, she had spent the last year preparing herself for this moment, and she was really happy they found Robin, because she was just perfect to continue her job and even if she couldn't be a Keeper anymore, she would still be just a normal librarian and that was enough for her, as along as she got the love of her life back.

"I know, but that's something I need to do and not just for myself."

Ruby worried at her lip, appearing to be in need of saying something else, but she ended up opting for not doing so and just nodded giving Belle a squeeze on her hand as she stepped inside the crypt.

"I'll be outside, if you need me."

"Thank you, Ruby," Belle spoke sincerely. "For everything you did for my family along this year. You're the best friend someone could have."

She got a last smile from her friend before she disappeared inside, lighting up a lamp and taking the parchment she brought, off of her coat's pocket and standing in front of the rock where the Pandora's box had been placed for what seemed so long ago, by Regina. Unrolling the paper, Belle didn't think twice before starting to read the words that might bring Rum back or not, but would certainly end her participation on the Supernatural world.

"What was lost in time, come again, bring light, bring hope, be alive again."

The Pandora's box started to shine so brightly that she had to cover her eyes and step back, but then the light became lower and she looked straight at it, watching as a human silhouette started to form. Belle gasped, recognising the man who was being brought back to life in all his glory, exactly like the way he was the day he traded his life for their son.

"Belle?"

"Rumford," she proffered, not taking another second before throwing her arms around his neck and drowning in his embrace.

Something that sounded like a sob came from Rum as he pulled her closer, hugging her tighter, and spreading kisses on her face.

"Oh, sweetheart, you saved me," he said in a quite broken voice. "But at what cost?"

"Nothing I wasn't willing to give up to have you again."

Rumford looked deep into her eyes before he finally met her lips. He couldn't believe how clever she was; when he gave his life for Gideon he never thought he could come back, but she found a way and he appreciated her wisdom even more now.

"I feel different," he said, pulling away from her. "I don't feel myself draining your life with my kisses anymore."

Belle touched his face and the glow she saw in her eyes, the same one she could see sometimes reflected in only one of Alice's iris, showed her something Rumford couldn't realise for himself.

"You're Light, Rum," she whispered, mesmerized. "Like you should have always been."

"Light?"

"Yes," she confirmed, hiding her face on the curve of his neck again, placing a kiss on the hot skin she found there. "What do you think about going home now? There is someone I want you to meet."

"I think it sounds perfect."

But yet, they stayed inside the crypt for a long moment, because they couldn't just let go of the other now, when they had just found love again.

Learn Our Crystals

When Visuals was released earlier this year, Learn Our Crystals was not at all a stand-out track to my ears. It seemed like a fluffy type of filler track in the subtle way Mew tends to do those songs, but the lyrics were a different story. I’ve gone through some major personal changes this year and it felt as if I were being walloped upside the head with its message. It seemed to me like an imaginary conversation with Jonas in which he was telling me “Look, I might be a pretty cool guy, but I’m just a guy, you know?” In other words, “Slow your roll, fangirl! You’re also doing some pretty awesome things too, and you deserve some credit! Don’t make this all about me!” Jonas is one of the most humble people on this planet despite what he’s accomplished, but he also is happy to let people know when they’re appreciated.

It almost seems like a miracle that I can behave in a sensible way around him and the rest of the band, given my level of adoration for them and their work. But, for whatever reason, I never feel any sort of fear or anxiety in their presence. The lead up time to meeting them each time is fraught with anxiety and panic, but oddly it evaporates as soon as I make eye contact with Jonas. This guy exudes an aura of calm unlike anyone I’ve ever met before. He puts me at ease just by being there. I like to think I possess a similar quality and our vibrational state is just on a similar wavelength so naturally there’s no friction. It’s always incredibly pleasant to be near him.

Despite my history of traveling around to see them perform (which at the time of this writing is 19 times in 6 different countries) and many opportunities to meet them in person, one prize has always eluded me: a chance to have a long, personal conversation with Jonas. In the past, things never lined up in such a way to make the timing right. But this time around, I got my wish (and then some.) I spent somewhere around 7 cumulative hours with all the band members in very quiet, intimate settings, so conversations were plentiful. It was basically everything I could have ever hoped it would be.

My main takeaway from all of it is that my intuition has always been spot on about important things in my life, and this was no exception. Jonas is exactly what he appears to be: a generous, kind, compassionate, sweet, awkward geek. He has an amazing sense of humor and enjoys teasing (and being teased.) I don’t mean that in a weird way, mind you, but rather the sort of light trolling you might do with your close friends to show them you care about them. It’s effortless to be around him, like he’s someone I’ve known for longer than I can remember. He embodies all the best qualities of my dearest friends in one beautiful package.

Obviously things are a bit lopsided here, given how much I know about him and how little he knows about me, so I could see in his eyes he was trying to figure me out. His expression as I talked was mainly of happy interest, but at times I could see it shift into a mixture of curiosity and suspicion, like he was cautiously wondering what I had up my sleeve that I was prepared to throw at him at any moment. Understandably so, given the very first thing I did after we greeted each other with a hug was troll him with a Scientology pamphlet, to recreate a story he’d told during a technical glitch at Mew’s show earlier this year in Bristol. That might seem like a bizarre thing to do to one’s hero, but my intuition told me that he would find it funny given the length that story had to travel to get to me in the first place and its utter obscurity. My position gives me insight into things that happen all over the world through all my amazing Frenger buddies, so not much gets past me. He was very confused at first, but then laughed. “You know the story, huh?”

We chatted about all sorts of things: our shared love of Twin Peaks and David Lynch, meditation, the Danish language, foreign spouses, rising property prices, the US healthcare system, museum exhibits, tattoos, Bob Ross, the impending solar eclipse, and favorite music. Just imagine that: a beautiful conversation in a state of flow, as though we were old friends catching up after some time apart. It was a beautiful gift I was so grateful to receive, which is a big deal for me. I have been working very hard this year to allow myself to fully receive things rather than letting the good things ping off my protective armor and only letting the negative permeate.

I spent nearly a full week following them around the West Coast of the United States. Thursday night, they played a VIP show in KEXP’s Gathering Space, followed by a guest DJ spot on DJ Shannon’s late night show. Saturday night they played Seattle, Sunday night Portland, and Tuesday night San Francisco. I was there for all of it. I had the fortune of being there to assist Shannon during her radio show, then spend time with the band in the Green Room. After the Seattle show, Shannon and I went backstage with them, to a too-loud bar which we immediately vacated, and then onto the tour bus. On 3 hours’ sleep, my friends and I drove down to Portland and back again the same night. Then the next day I was on a plane to San Francisco, to return 2 days later. My head is still spinning with the speed and intensity of all these events.

The best part of all of it was that I was always, and I mean always, surrounded by my best friends in the world. They were all there to support me and my love of this amazing band, and of course to enjoy the music themselves. But it does not go unnoticed by me that their love for me was what brought them to these venues to enjoy my favorite thing in this lifetime. I am so lucky to have such wonderful people in my life.

I’m the sort of person who doesn’t understand how I feel about something until I’ve written it down. With all the craziness happening, this is my very first opportunity to do that, and I am still so busy with so many aspects of my life that I don’t feel I have the freedom to allow myself to feel and process my feelings fully since I risk breaking down under the weight of it all. I will save that for a quiet time when I can be alone with a handwritten journal and some tissues, should the floodgate of tears arrive.

Whenever I have an amazing experience of any sort, I often think to myself that things couldn’t possibly get any better than what has just happened. But time and time again I prove to myself that I am a master manifester who is able to make her dreams come true on a regular basis, and no matter what, there is always going to be some experience that surpasses the best thing that’s ever happened to me. Last week was the best proof I’ve seen so far, and I know with absolute certainty that things are only going to keep getting more and more awesome.

I think it’s time to reflect on 2019.

What a fucking whirlwind of a year. I dieted, exercised, went to korea, went blonde and pink and purple, took a CBD class, took a lot of Yoga, kicked my merch habit, lost and gained 10 pounds, got a new fucking job that I fucking love with the best boss I’ve ever had, worked a ton of just the craziest events, and got to see the clouds move at crazy fast paces that make me feel so light and uncommitted to this world and who I am now. I think that’s one of the crazy things of sitting here on the 40fh floor watching these clouds float and I mean literally get a move on past me above a city that seems to be falling asleep slowly. What a gorgeous view and a crazy experience that I get to have. And I had this not just once but multiple times this year.

I love these stupid skylines and gorgeous landscapes and breath taking views and just expanses. It’s so different than just sitting in my LA apartment and I’m so so soooooo immensely grateful for this change. I’m glad we moved too. I think I’m happy with the move just a little uncontent with where we are choosing to spend money.

2019 was so insanely long.

Kpop wise, I was still so in love with stray kids at the beginning of the year. I watched the miroh cb but tbh it set the tone and so I wasnt as thrilled about the remainder of the comebacks. I was still so so into BTS. I still really liked taehyung. I had a yoongi phase to shield myself from claires increasing obsession with Taehyung. I got to have JUS2, the best unit ever to be birthed by GOT7 debut and also have their stuff everywhere while I was in Korea. I got into Izone. I got to have WayV fulfill every single Cpop dream I had. I watched IP2 and cried over YMM pretty much the entire season and wenhan. I got to see blackpink and pentagon and Twice and GOT7 AGAIN!!! And then my dream literally came true. I worked kcon?!? I dont even care for ATEEZ but so so cool to be able to be part of a moment. And I got to see Woojin 🥺the only one I would ever use this emoji for. As the year draws to a close, I really think I’m a bigger Dream fan than ever before. Fireflies and DNYL was the track OF THE YEAR. I can’t stop listening to it and boom is also such a great track. And on some level I think that SKZ is my guilty pleasure EDM group. That’s super super nice to have. I’m obsessed with SUPERM. WHAT A GENIUS MOVE to have such absolute powerhouses in one group and I’ll get to see them in the new year! Also so so so proud of Got7 this year. While eclipse was not my favorite, I will say this year everyone seemed the most content with what they were putting out and they had the best time promoting all of their music. As a fan I’m much deeper in love with Markhyuck than I ever have been and it’s starting to blend into 2park. It’s been such a whirlwind. Such a crazy long year. I also will take some time eventually to talk about just how different it is now that BTS is a clear top. Nothing is as interesting or as fun anymore. Especially year end stages. And I miss having Exo. I love BTS don’t get my wrong. I rrally think they did something exceptional with their music. But I dont think I can ever refute that EXO is the BEST kpop boy group of all time for many many many reasons. It’s nice having them comeback with a strong concept like obsession. So. So happy with it. Also Lowkey happy with the music style trade between 127 and exo with obessesion and superhuman lol. I think for now that’s enough about kpop. How I’m consuming it is constantly changing. I’m not longer following as closely but I think it’s just enough. And I’m learning when to save and when to just like something.

As a person, did I become more of a leo? More abrasive and rough? Defensive and almost unpleasant to be around? Maybe. I think there’s a lot of residual habits that I had formed during my two dormant years that I want to fix including, accidentally over dominating a conversation and spacing out when someone else is talking. I feel super rusty and I feel bad that I seem to no longer engage with people as much as I used to or as well as I used to. I think I need more practice with friends who aren’t just in my immediate circle or very surface level. I definitely want to read more books on that.

Personally, I have a few goals this year. First quarter of the year I want to focus on my exercise, diet, and korean. I think 3 things shouldn’t be too hard to handle. To tackle this, I want to spend time looking at things I would like to cook to be healthier and to eat healthier. And for exercise, if I can just manage to do what Kelly did and pair it with exercise, I really believe I can drop major pounds. I feel motivated again to do it and I want to do it well. I also do want to set some goals at work but I think that needs further reflecting this month. On my to do list.

I still want to do some form of YouTube but I havent quite decided what yet. So that’s more to come later.

Did I reflect on my 2019 enough? I really think that it’s been an immense year of personal growth but also if slip ups and seeing a lot of my Achilles heels. A testament of my laziness but also willingness to make things happen. I was burnt out and motivated all at once because it felt like I was living three lives at once and I had comepletely separates how I felt in each one. It proves to me that I am able to really change how I approach anything just based on mentality and it has nothing to do with how I feel right now as a whole. I am complex with many emotions and depth that gives me the ability to juggle almost multiple universes for myself. What makes me so so soooo excited about this year is that I think I can finally properly break away from chains that I’ve imposed on myself through my friendships. I have been learning how to form my own opinion, how to defend yet not be defensive of them, and to not have to agree. It’s less of a breaking away from my friends than a breaking away from my thoughts and impressions of this friendship past my boundary.

On that note, I do think this is the year that I let Alex Lim go. I think cutting him off myself last fall was the hardest most heartbreaking thing I’ve ever had to go through in a friendship but I am happy to report that I’m happier now. I feel unconstrained and just the same indifference I feel for his girlfriend. I’d love to stay in the loop but it’s not the same stress that I felt.

I also feel more free of Alex Do for the first time. This year included the developments of his update wi th AILINA when I decided to go to exec elections, him ignoring me, me finding out he was dating someone, me finding out he was refused to make it official because of us but had also brought her home, and him moving back to Texas. It just felt so much freer to not be tied anymore and to feel bad or feel remorse or any of the things that I had felt in the entirety of our relationship and post breakup. I’m actually quite happy with where I’m at now.

Family is hard. I think this year is going to be hard for everyone.

Regardless. What an amazing jam packed long ass year. I’m so so soooo excited for anew chapter. It proves that time doesn’t necessarily need to move faster. But I should also plan with less stress. I think that’s the biggest take away this year. How I manage stress.

Here’s to a 2019. The craziest year yet.

Mother’s Day Weekend 2018

Hi friends. How are you guys doing today? I definitely did not mean to go dark on the blog yesterday but my Monday had a bit of an unexpected start. I woke up feeling okay, but the minute I stood up and stepped out of bed, I felt like the whole room was spinning. I couldn’t walk a step without holding onto the wall or a dresser. It freaked me out and the intense dizziness lasted for a few hours and only dissipated when I closed my eyes and laid down. It was also coupled with nausea and vomiting.

I am so grateful Ryan was able to take the day off work to help with Chase and take me in to see my doctor. Thankfully the dizziness got better throughout the day and everything seems to be okay with our baby and my health. (My blood pressure was a bit lower than normal and my doctor thinks I was slightly dehydrated.) I was sent home with instructions to rest as much as possible, drink lots of fluids and eat some salty foods and come back in if the dizziness worsened.

I am relieved to be feeling much better today and hope that is a good sign for the rest of the week. Ooph!

I worked on what I hoped would be Monday’s blog post a bit over the weekend, so now I want to dive back into it and share a recap of our weekend with you guys this morning!

Friday

Our weekend kicked off on a great note with a date night out!

For my birthday two weeks ago, Ryan surprised me with dinner reservations at Heirloom, a local farm-to-fork restaurant we’ve been dying to try, and tickets to see an improv comedy show. We booked a babysitter (the one I creepily approached at the park last Friday) and headed off to dinner soon after Ryan arrived home from work.

Heirloom was fantastic and we decided to splurge and each do the tasting menu as both a birthday and before-baby treat. Everything was so fresh and flavorful but the duck entree and s’mores-themed dessert stole the show for me! Oh… and the complimentary hot-from-the-oven roll that came with our soup was unreal. Is that weird to say? I don’t know but so often the pre-dinner bread restaurants serve is stale but man oh man this roll was warm, buttery and melt-in-your-mouth GOOD. (And yes, my affinity for refined carbohydrates is goin’ strong over here right now!)

After dinner, we headed off to the main event of the night: Whose LIVE Is It Anyway?

Ryan booked tickets to this live-show take on the improv comedy television show Whose Line Is It Anyway? and we were both looking forward to a night of laughter. The show absolutely delivered (I even got called on out of the audience and immediately started sweating!) and we loved every second.

We arrived home late but sacrificing a little sleep in favor of such a fun night out was more than worth it.

Saturday

Chase had all of us up bright and early on Saturday and we spend the morning hanging out around the house. Since Chase and I did a massive grocery shopping trip at ALDI on Friday morning, we had a bunch of food on hand and prepped some brown rice and slow cooker salsa chicken before heading off to a Mommy and Me Boot Camp class at Burn Boot Camp.

Since we loved this Mother’s Day weekend event at BBC so much last year, I really wanted to make sure we attended again this year and to say Chase was in heaven would be a huge understatement. He gave the workout 100 percent effort 100 percent of the time and was running and jumping all over the place.

We spent some time chatting with friends after the camp and ate a snack on a bench outside before heading home. Unfortunately getting Chase into the car was a bit of a beast – we’re talking a major car seat battle – and I could tell he was completely exhausted from no nap on Friday, an early wakeup on Saturday and a very active morning. We went from super happy and joyful to cranky and weepy in 2.5 seconds, so Ryan and I scrapped our morning plans and laid low at home before we put Chase down for an early nap.

He fell asleep within 5 minutes and while Ryan went to work on our boat, I tackled thank you notes! I managed to finish the notes for my family from the baby sprinkle my aunt hosted and it felt good to check something off my to-do list.

Ryan arrived home an hour or so later and while Chase snoozed away, we dug into salads for lunch.

They came together quickly thanks to morning food prep!

Once Chase was up, we headed out on the boat and spent the rest of the afternoon and early evening swimming and playing at a local sandbar. It was so fun and got me way too excited for summer even though I know I’ll be on a bit of a swimming hiatus after our baby arrives.

And yes, you better believe we brought Chase’s potty on the boat with us.

We weren’t taking any chances! Also, huge thanks to those who messaged me about this portable potty option on Instagram stories after I shared that pic! I immediately ordered it and think it will be a great travel potty option for us as we’re still mastering potty training around here.

Sunday

Sunday was Mother’s Day and the definition of a family day through and through! Since temperatures were supposed to eclipse 90 degrees for the second day in a row, we took advantage of the semi-cool morning weather and took Sadie on a family walk after breakfast.

We managed to cover around 3 miles which felt like a victory since Chase rarely tolerates more than 30 minutes in a stroller these days. Thankfully pointing out every bird we saw on our walk coupled with a variety of snacks, books and a few truck toys kept him stroller-bound and happy!

When we arrived home, we ate another snack and headed back out on the boat!

Spending time on the water with my family was high on my list of Mother’s Day activities, so it was a great way to spend our Sunday.

As we were splashing around, Ryan and I heard the familiar tinkly music of an ice cream truck and were shocked to see an ice cream boat floating along in the water. What a genius idea, right!?

We arrived back home ready for lunch and dug into sandwiches before Ryan settled Chase down for a nap and sent me off to get my nails done!

Apparently making an appointment to get your nails done on Mother’s Day is a good idea because I ended up visiting three different salons before I found one with an opening. I don’t get my nails done often and have never had any issues with drop-in appointments but I quickly learned Sunday is “nail day” for many women and that, coupled with Mother’s Day, meant nail salon overload!

I almost threw in the towel after my second visit but really wanted the SNS nails I had done for my birthday taken off professionally since I peeled two off myself and could tell it was a horrible idea for my nail health to manually remove them. Once my manicure was done, I headed back home and spent the rest of the evening relaxing with Ryan, Chase and Sadie… and plenty of ice cream!

Bittersweet (Chapter 3)

Gold lived in a big salmon house, nestled in one of the most distant parts of town. He had purchased it years ago, when he made his success as a lawyer, and ever since it was his home. Now, however, he had a son living there and was bringing a girl that was pregnant with his next child under his wing too, everything seemed confusing. Gold felt both angry with Lacey's decision and blessed for being given this child, apart from any circumstances. He parked his car in front of the house and there was an awkward moment where the two of them just sat there, without speaking and without knowing what to do.  Lacey decided she had had enough of it and opened the door, getting out of the car. It took him another couple of seconds to follow her to the doorstep.

He took his keys from his pocked, toying nervously with them, a little afraid of the next move. Lacey however, didn't seem to have any patience to deal with his uncertainty now.

"Will you open the door or do you intend us to spend the rest of the night outside?" She asked, sarcastically.

"I'm sorry," Adam answered, plunging the key in the lock.  He gesticulated for Lacey to enter the house. "Welcome, I do hope you can feel at home here."

What he truly hoped, was that at some point he would wake up and realize  it all had been a dream and none of this was really happening. How was he capable of making a fool of himself this way? Had he really started writing a contract that guaranteed him full custody of the baby he had conceived with a much younger girl in a bar the night he was rejected by his bride? What kind of joke had his life turned into?

"Thank you," Lacey said a little too emphatically, before stepping in.

He followed her, leaving his laptop bag near the coatrack, assisting the brunette with her own coat.  He walked towards the living room, seeing some toys spread on the floor.  A soft genuine smile twitches at his mouth for the first time that day.

"Bae?" Gold called.

A little boy came running from the other end of the room, where he had been with the redhead chubby nanny, throwing  himself in his father’s arms. Lacey couldn’t help but smile at that scene. Bae was the cutest thing she had ever laid her eyes on, his brow were a little wavy, his dark eyes shiny and a red superhero cape cascaded down his shoulders.  That made her wonder for a brief moment if her child would be  look as adorable as its half-brother. However, she quickly rid herself of those thoughts, remembering that she shouldn’t under any circumstances get attached to this baby. The separation would hurt even more if she started to care about it.

"Papa!"

"How is my boy?” Gold asked touching his cheek affectionally. “Did you have a great day at school?"

"Yeah, I drew something for you," Baden replied happily, rushing back to where he had been playing, opening the small full-coloured backpack that was resting on the floor.

Lacey thought that Gold’s house was definitely beautiful, but surely too dark. It had large windows to let the light in, but every single piece of furniture was painted in some shade of colour that was darker than her soul and it somehow made her feel a little depressed. In the past, her mother had furnished their tiny home with all white things and cheerful decorations, and the urge of doing the same in Gold’s house made her heart constrict in her chest.

Breathing in, Lacey shook her head. Her hormones must have been acting up for her to have such stupid thoughts.

"Mrs. Nolan said he is doing great," she caught the nanny saying to Gold.

"I bet he is, thank you Helga," Adam said sincerely, before touching the girl’s arm to get her attention, gesticulating in the woman’s direction. "Lacey, this is Bae's nanny, Helga Potts. Helga, this is Lacey, she is going to spend a couple of months here."

“It is a pleasure to meet you,” Mrs. Potts answered, offering Lacey a brief handshake. "Do you want me to prepare one of the guestrooms for her before I leave?"

Gold nodded and Lacey realised that his nervous hand was still on her arm, stroking it so gently that it brought back memories of their night together, making her want to whisper to him that she didn’t want to be in any bedroom that night that wasn’t his, but she kept quiet. "I would be very grateful."

"Alright, it will be ready in a minute, Mr. Gold."

Helga disappeared up the staircase, and Baden toddled back over to where they were, a paper in his hands, but his deep brown gaze fixed on Lacey, as if now he realised she was there.

"Papa, who is she?" The little boy asked.

"This beautiful young woman, Bae, is a friend of mine,” Gold explained, kneeling on the floor, so their faces were at the same level. “Her name is Lacey."

"Hi,” he waved at her. “I'm Baden!"

"I know,” she returned with a smirk, “it is very nice to meet you, little boy."

Brushing at his son’s shoulder, Gold gathered the courage he needed to begin telling him in the softest way he could about the deal he had made with her; he just needed to find the right words to do so and not startle the boy.

"Is it ok for you if she stays with us for a while?"

"Yeah,” Bae agreed, before his eyebrows narrowed in concern, and he asked: “Is she homeless?"

Biting at her lip, Lacey suppressed a laugh.

"No, my boy,” Gold answered with a chuckle, “actually she here to help me give you a gift."

"A gift?” Baden’s eyes glowed. “I want it, can I see it?"

"Not yet."

"Can you tell me what is it?" He begged, showing his father those puppy dog eyes that he knew Gold wasn’t able to deny.

The problem, however, was that Adam seemed to have lost his ability to speak, because he didn’t know how to explain to his son that he had a one-night stand with a random woman in a bar, and gotten her pregnant. He was struggling to understand it had happened, and he didn’t know what exactly to tell his boy, until an old remembrance popped up in his mind.

"Remember when you used to ask your mama to give you a sibling to play with?" He asked Bae and the boy nodded. "Well, Lacey will bring one for you."

"You're having a baby?" Baden asked, stunned.

"I am," Lacey mumbled hesitantly, but in the second she finished her short sentence, Gold’s son threw his arms around her legs, surprising her and making her lose her balance a little. "Whoa."

"Thank you!” the boy said, sincerely. “Can it please be a boy?"

"I - "

"None of us get to choose what it is, son.” Gold interrupted, probably knowing that she had no idea of what she was going to say. “But now, can you promise me that you'll be good to Lacey while she is here?"

Nodding emphatically, Bae spoke. "Sure!"

"Great, go get ready for dinner."

Gathering his backpack, Baden ran upstairs to his bedroom, and she just stood there, looking at the cheerful boy, almost jumping with happiness at a situation she considered a disaster.

"I have to admit, you have the sweetest kid in this universe. I was expecting him to freak out."

"Nah,” Adam grumbled, rising from the floor. “Bae is passive most of the time, and he is just a child who has no idea how messed up this is."

"Mr. Gold, the bedroom is ready," Helga informed him, walking towards them. "If you'll  excuse me, I'm going home. See you tomorrow."

"Bye, Mrs. Potts," Gold replied, watching as the nanny disappeared down the hallway before turning back to Lacey. "Care to see your room?"

She nodded, allowing him to rest his hand on her back, leading her upstairs. His touch was warm through the fabric of her dress, the firmness of his fingers against her, making her heart race and her breath get caught in her throat. He was too close, but not as close as she wanted him to be.  Of course, by the moment they sealed the deal, she knew that nothing would ever happen between them again, but that didn’t prevent her from still wanting him, because Lacey had never felt so good as she had in his arms.

Upstairs there was a large hallway with five doors, one which was open. Gold took her straight there, turning on the lights to allow her to get a better look inside. Lacey held her breath. It was wonderful. The walls were  covered by cream wallpaper, the bed, a queen-sized one had rosy covers and red sheets, a desk was set on one side near the nightstand, and two doors led to a closet and an en-suite bathroom. She could almost imagine were she would place every item she had brought with her, because even though the furniture’s dark wooden shade still didn’t please her, the simple perfection of all the rest eclipsed this small detail.

"It's huge, comfortable,” Lacey commented, walking around, a little stunned.  She let herself fall on the bed with a grateful smile. “Thanks."

Gold’s lips were slightly curved in that sad, half-smirk he used at the bar when they'd met, but his eyes were fixated on the floor when he muttered: "Do you mind if I book an ultrasound for you?"

"Not at all," she answered, tracing the patterns on the duvet. "Adam?"

"Yes?"

Lacey took a deep breath, then lifted her chin, recovering her strength. "Are you mad at me?"

"For what?" He questioned with an arched brow.

"Getting pregnant," the brunette shrugged. "Do you hate me for that?"

Lifting his head to look straight at her, Adam appeared to be as broken as he was after being left at the altar by his bride, his greying hair falling beautifully in front of his eyes. In his unique way, he was the most handsome man Lacey had ever met. Screw all the young, good-looking boys she knew, nothing could compare to his beauty and the fact that he was way older than her only excited her more.

"No, of course not, why would I?"

"I know you're mad at me for some reason,” she pointed out. “I can feel it."

"Lacey - " he tried to say, but she stood up, walking slowly to him, while she shook her head.

"It's alright, I'm used to it."

"Papa, I'm hungry!" They heard Baden calling from the end of the corridor.

Gold gesticulated in the direction of the stairs. "Do you like pizza?"

"Who doesn't?"

"Lacey?" She heard a distant voice call, too distant for her sluggish state to pay any  attention to it, so she ignored it, but it insisted: "Lacey?"

"Mm?"

"Lacey!" The voice called louder, right in her ear.

A scream escaped her lips, and she sat up quickly on the bed, that she almost made Baden fall to the floor. He gripped the bedcovers to steady himself, staring at the unkempt young woman, untidy in her cotton turquoise pyjamas.

"What the - " she started, before realising that she was speaking with a child and should control her tongue. "Geez, you scared the hell out of me, kid."

"Sorry," Bae mumbled. He was dressed in a black school uniform and seemed way too awake  and ready for school. "You said a bad word, Papa says we should never say bad words."

If Baden though that “hell” was a bad word, she couldn’t imagine how he would react if he heard his father speaking all the curses he did while he was with her in the library.

"How hypocritical," she whispered under her breath, throwing the covers back and standing to her feet.

Bae slipped off the bed, following Lacey around the bedroom as she picked some clothes from the drawers, where she had organized them the night prior. "Papa said the breakfast is served and you should hurry, or you'll be late."

"Well, thank you, I'll change," she waved the clothes at him, and the boy shrugged, making his way to the door, but suddenly, he stopped, looking back at her.

"Lacey?"

"What is it?"

"When will I be able to see the baby?" He questioned.

"Not for quite awhile,” she told him, “but maybe we can feel it moving soon."

"Cool."

Rolling her eyes, Lacey mumbled something to herself about not needing an alarm clock anymore, if Bae was to wake her up every single morning this way, and a great part of her suspected that it was Adam who had commanded him to wake her, because someone  so sweet, wasn’t able of plotting to annoy her this way by his own will.

Stripping  her pyjamas, she pulled on the clothes and shoes she had picked and grabbed her purse, going downstairs to find the house filled with an incredible smell of something baking, which made her heart warm. Lacey hadn’t eaten anything really handmade ever since her mother had died.  She and her father constantly bought frozen food, and she only got to eat something really delicious when she stopped by her friend Ruby’s house and stolen a bit of her grandmother’s superb cooking.

Her stomach made a low grumble  of desperate need for the food, and she entered the kitchen where Bae was sitting at the breakfast table and Gold was standing in front of the stove, flipping some pancakes.

"Good morning," Adam said, when he heard her pulling up a chair and sitting near his son.

"Morning."

"I hope you like panc..." he started to say, preparing a plate for her and turning around to place it on the table, his gaze fixated on her outfit, and he swallowed hard. "Is that what you wear to work?"

"Most days," Lacey replied with a shrug, picking up the fork and the knife, slicing into a pancake.

"A see through white blouse and a black bra?" Adam inquired, arching a brow.

"Enjoying the view, Mr. Gold?"

"I - I - " he stammered, his face turning bright red, his gaze still locked on her transparent blouse.

"I'm just making fun of you," Lacey guffawed, when he looked away. "You're blushing."

Each one of his features showed how much he was uncomfortable, and she knew  if Adam still had the plate in his hands, he would have already dropped it on the floor. They had almost forgot about Baden's presence, but the good thing was that he wasn't paying much attention to their conversation and even if he was, Bae wouldn't have understood a thing they were implicitly saying, however, when his small voice spoke again, both of them looked at him a little startled.

"Papa will you drop me off at school before work?"

"Of course I will," Gold said.   "And I'll take Lacey to her work at the library afterwards."

"You work in a library?" Bae asked, interested.

Lacey grinned, glancing at him over her plate of pancakes. "Yep."

"Can you take me there someday?"

"Sure, why not?"

Baden granted her a giant smile  as he reached for the honey and spread some over his pancakes. "I like you."

"I like you too, wee one," Lacey answered, and saying those simple words to him was like being drawn to an entire new universe that she was sure she would soon become addicted to, just like a truly exhilarating book.

And if those experiences had taught her anything,  it was that it was near impossible to step back when you already had a new passion filling your thoughts all the time. Surely this life, flirting with Gold at the breakfast table and making little Bae giggle seemed to be exactly the kind of one that would be the end of her, because it would make her happy.  She was going to be forced to give away her baby and leave, and it would destroy her even more than her mother’s death had.
