Some Sentences SunMonday?
Thanks to @priincebutt @onthewaytosomewhere and @piratefalls for the tags! The weekends always destroy me right now because of work, but I've been scribbling off and on for the latest chapter of living in a new normal! PB was very kind and did a sensitivity read for what I've written so far, and I'm really excited for what I've written so far. I'm very hopeful to have this next chapter up this week, so catch up on chapter one if you haven't already! The next chapter is in Alex's POV, and my boy is a bundle of emotions! Here is a snippet to keep you at bay. PB really loved this part and I did too, so I thought I might share it with yall. Enjoy!
When he wasn’t busy with homework or after-school activities, Alex was consumed by music: playing, listening to, or doing both simultaneously. His memory became an infinite playlist, with songs attached to different moments or people. Sam Hunt’s ‘Leave the Night On’ conjured the image of Jessica Riley, his first crush. She was beautiful, with long blonde hair pulled back into a French braid. Her lips were stained red from the popsicle she ate as they sat on the warm grass and held hands as the summer sky erupted with fireworks. Play Tim McGraw’s ‘My Little Girl,’ and he remembered thinking how his big sister June looked like a fairytale princess in a soft pink ball gown as their dad twirled her around the dance floor for her quinceañera. Tracy Chapman’s ‘Fast Car’ changed his life for the better. After convincing June and Nora to take a trip to Memphis, the trio had a run-in with Rafael on Beale Street. When the older man asked Alex if the battered guitar strapped to his back was just for show, Alex grinned and asked, “You got five minutes?” His life was a tapestry of musical memory. But it found a way of making even the music in his head fade into a terrible ringing silence.
See yall sooooooon!
