The world tips backwards, his scalpel facing forwards, a sword aimed at this woman, this creature—

He nearly chokes on his tongue as his head collides with the floor. “Whoops, sorry!” What a lunatic— she truly sounds sincere. She’s clambering over him without a care in the world, her knees digging into his sides. An almost erotic scene, were it not for his scalpel pointed at her. It’s so close to the unprotected expanse of her stomach, yet she leans closer. Her cheeks ruddy with wild excitement, eyes close enough to reflect his bewildered fear.

He wasn’t going to kilI her earlier, even though she knew. Knows, more precisely. Veronika truly is a horror that extends beyond her own knowledge— she knows. Knows about his plans. But instead of trying to talk him out of it, she—

Her hand clutches the scalpel, and her blood runs down his gloved fingers, ruining his shirt. He feels frozen as her fingers bleed further, down his body, onto her dress, fear bleeding into his mind. “You’re insane,” Arturo breathes out.

“I meant what I said earlier, you know,” Veronika says, eying him down. He’s powerless now. Or to be more precise, this woman is unfathomable— his studies have never taught him how to deal with this. “I really don’t mind helping you kill someone.”

He huffs. Damn his fear, that’s stupid. “You know what that means for you. I would be an idiot to trust you.”

Veronika. Smiling, demonic, hedonistic Veronika giggles. She laughs open mouthed, almost innocent of her cruelty. “I know! But you have no choice now. Or I’ll tell them what you’re planning. It would be a waste to lose aaaaall that propofol you’ve been stealing from the infirmary, wouldn’t it?”

The sheer strength of her fingers rips the scalpel from his hands, and she points the weapon at the soft tissue of his throat. His breaths come in quickly.

Her blood is all over it; now, him. “You have to choose, now. Either way, I won’t be bored.”

Terunika

As in life, there are scenes. As in life, the credits roll.

But it’s not their time yet. No yet.

If Veronika keeps this up though, maybe it’ll be her time. Not Teruko’s, though. Never hers.

“So spill,” Teruko says, as slowly, the lights of the Movie Screening room return. Flickering, like Veronika’s visage. Her face, always new. Smiling. “What’s the real reason you’re hanging out with me? It can’t be because I’m interesting.”

Veronika smiles, tilting her head in that coquettish way she always does. The I don’t understand, I’m innocent! look. Seductive and dangerous. “Well now Teruko, do I need a proper reason to hang out with you?”

Teruko sighs. The screen before them is now black, as after the credits, there is nothing. “Of course you do. You’ve seen what happens to the people around me. Or are you simply too intrigued by the idea of tragedy? I’m not—”

Veronika puts a painted nail to her lips. Somehow, this is just something Veronika is able to do. Always, somehow, leave people silenced in awe. “Now now. I never said you were boring.” She takes a lock of Teruko’s hair, going gray. The horror fanatic loops the lock of hair around her finger. Stares at it, rather than Teruko. Two girls seeking pleasure, really. “I simply think the risk is worth the reward. Risking my life to be around you… that’s a reward worth taking.”

Teruko stares. “What?”

Veronika stares back. Red hair, and pools of brown. Not gold. Not like… “Show me a good time, Teruko.”

Teruvid

David keeps his distance from her.

Teruko doesn’t even know why that’s an observation she would make. That’s natural. Normal, to stay away from a bad luck charm.

And yet there’s a permanent pall to his gaze. It’s not anger or resentment, surprisingly enough. There was something real about the way David looked at Xander, so it would have been no surprise if he did resent her. But he doesn’t.

His frosty look is no disguise, though. The loneliest of stars are in his eyes. It is not fear that repels him either. When he looks at her, he tries to smile. His lips curl upwards, and he waves.

Hello, his mouth says, but his eyes say something else.

To bring about chaos, that’s all that you do.

Well, Teruko has handled worse. She shrugs. Only liars can spot other liars. Yes, he is fine, because he can see the truth in her.

She is not sorry for existing, and he isn’t either. He watches her. She turns away.

Teruden

There, see? Teruko knew she was right all along. Being kind and so trusting only gets you hurt.

That didn’t mean it felt good to be right. Everyone ended up humiliated in some way today— Hu, J, Ace, Levi—

No. She shouldn’t feel sorry. Not when he took advantage of Eden’s trusting nature, fed her that pathetic sob story crap about not having a family anymore— no wonder they left him behind.

Teruko grimaces. Best not to think about him right now.

She pushes down her hesitation and knocks. Whenever they were together, it always seemed like tragedy struck. Min. Ace and Nico. Now, Arei. Even so, there really was nothing that could have been done— Teruko can’t be removed from the equation, so she can still extend this little bit of kindness, at least.

“Hey. It’s me. I brought you some dinner, so don’t let it go to waste, okay?”

What she doesn’t say: come out. Let me know that you’re okay. Show me that optimism, that part of you that makes you Eden, that girl that forced me to go outside.

There’s a pregnant pause. Teruko wonders if someone else already brought her something to eat. Probably not, though. What��s the saying? Hell is empty, and all the devils are here.

Not devils, but really what’s the difference anymore? She’s seen what they’re all like under a bit of pressure. Not Eden though.

She sighs. Steps back, then turns around. It doesn’t really matter. She doesn’t have a stake in Eden’s safety.

Faintly:

“Sorry… Leave me alone for a bit.”

Teruko swallows. That didn’t mean it hurt a little to see that naivety disappear. Maybe because it meant Teruko failed to protect someone too.

Areden

“The first trick to making friends,” Eden announces, a gloved finger pointing upwards towards her own mouth, “Is to smile sincerely!”

Arei groans. “Seriously? That sounds like something my kindergarten teacher would say.” Still, Arei tries. Her mouth comes out a little wonky and stiff. “Like… this?”

It makes Eden a little sad. How many lonely nights has Arei had, if she doesn’t even remember how to smile openly? Was her life really that cutthroat? If Arei gave Eden her shoulder to cry on, then who gave Arei a shoulder to cry on?

Eden shakes that thought away. “It’s… well…”

Arei’s stiff smile falls, and she turns her head away, almost ashamed. “I know. I’m glad you’re not lying, though.”

“I– I wouldn’t!” Eden shouts, grabbing Arei’s shoulders suddenly. Meeting Arei’s gaze, Eden realizes Arei’s eyes are a pretty kind of blue, the blue that could be sad, but could be as wonderful as a sunny day. Eden knows this to be true, even if she hasn’t seen her smile yet. “I wouldn’t lie to you about anything. I just know that someday, you’ll be happy to smile when you’re around others. I just know it.”

Arei’s breath hitches. Eden notices that she’s still not smiling. But her eyes are soft in a way Eden’s never seen before. “Oh yeah?” Her eyes move towards Eden’s hand, and Eden knows what to do. She takes Arei’s hand. “I guess… I can believe in that.”

Arei’s palms are surprisingly warm.

Arturo without the mask (the original for this artwork.) was so cursed I had to make a separate version with the mask on.

I’m gonna try doing more artworks in this style. (The dr splashart/cg/official art/execution art style, but not the sprite arts, I don’t really care for those.) It’s honestly kind of hard. I spent a very long time on this artwork and I don’t even think I did that good replicating the style. I can’t really find much any videos or tutorials about the art style and I can’t really find much videos about the lead dr artist.

I have also considered doing splash arts for Arturo, Veronika, and Arei, because I like them, but Arturo I am especially struggling with because his talent freaks me out and I don’t know how a splash art for a plastic surgeon would go.

Veroturo in my DRDT x Goodbye Despair Talent Swap AU

Princess Veronika x Swordsman Arturo

•During the events of the prologue, Arturo is the one who attacks MonoTV instead of Levi. However, this action causes spikes to come out and towards Veronika instead of him. Arturo manages to slice the spikes down with his sword before they hit her. Afterwards, he gets down on one and bows his head to her, apologizing to Veronika and offering to be her personal bodyguard as a way to atone for his actions. Veronika accepts and the two become inseperable throughout the killing game.

•Arturo has a natural instinct in protecting others, so he's naturally protective over Veronika, who also happens to be royalty. He stands on guard for her at all times. Arturo thinks Veronika is very nice and also sort of thinks she's pretty, but he wouldn't admit that aloud.

•Veronika admires Arturo for his sword abilities and aspires to be like him at some point. She appreciates his company a lot. She also thinks that he is a very good natured and cute soul.

Jus thinking about verturo

I like to think veronika would subvert expectations just to mess with arturo, being unusually gentle and slow with him. Maybe painfully slow but more so gentle and intimate rather than something intimidating/unsettling like how I imagine Arturo would think of an intimate session with Veronika would be like .If I'm making sense?
