⛵ What do I like about this character

Venli was probably the character I understood the least in my first read of the series. I don't have the biggest working memory in the world so I couldn't keep all the characters in my head, and I focused on the Alethi.

To. My. Detriment.

My second read has been very eye-opening! I thought Shallan was my problematic fave but Venli is giving her a run for her money. Timbre dragging her into doing the right thing like dragging an overtired teenager to do their chores is one of the funniest things in the series. I love their dynamic SO MUCH!

And much like Shallan, she carries a lot of the weight of the worldbuilding around listener culture and introducing the Fused. In world, too, she carries a lot of responsibility as the daughter of the Keeper of Songs, and as someone who made a devastatingly wrong choice for the wrong reason, and knows it. And is starting to try to do better.

I am so excited for what she'll be up against next. There's always something interesting happening inside her head and all around her. She IS the plot and I eat popcorn every time she's on screen now.

Look I know Venli getting both parents back is a bit excessive but I can't get over the sheer comic potential of her dad wandering across the listener camp and Venli's like "so here's Thude's pet chasmfiend and here is our new next door neighbor Leshwi (I know she's one of our evil gods but dw she's chill) and also we're all neshua kadal now ☺️" and her dad is like "...what"

First of all, that's Adolin's tailor and it's hilarious and I hope to God this comes up in conversation one day. Second of all, I love how Venli is putting out feelers re: Leshwi's general flexibility and open-mindedness before she even thinks about bringing up something relevant to her actual plans. Hella smart.
