After a busy few months of wedding planning and honeymooning, we’re back with some of our favorites from our Puerto Rican #honeymoon. We couldn’t get enough of @cafe_berlin in Old San Juan. Delicious, authentic, local food with a separate #vegan menu. Our first night in town, we ordered the Guava Loaf and Criollo Tofu. Both are great, but guys... that Guava Loaf is something else. Need a quick breakfast while exploring Puerto Rico? We loved @freshmartpr! A super tasty, quick service, health food store and restaurant on Avenida Ashford. Toast, tofu scramble, faux meat, and potatoes for under $10! Their entire menu is labeled as vegan, vegetarian, or gluten free so it’s super easy to determine which options are available to you. Mofongo, the holy grail of Puerto Rican food (in my opinion). Mashed plantains with an array of veggies! YUM 😋 Most mofongo is made with meat and stock so be sure to specify vegetable stock. One thing I learned on our trip is that @happycow is an absolute necessity. It’s great when those hunger pains hit suddenly, but you’re not totally familiar with the area. We found @elgrifopr on Happy Cow and were super excited to give it a try. Our trip took us a bit outside of San Juan to Caguas! We got buffalo cauliflower bites, pizza, a burger and @tommy_joscelyn treated himself to one of the many local beers they had on tap. Just. Ask. (Nicely) It may seem scary, but most places are willing to work with your dietary needs if they know in advance. We went zip lining and cave rappelling with @ecoquestadventures (SUPER fun btw) and the package came with lunch. We mentioned our preferences on the initial forms and they made sure they had food for us. Simple as that. In fact, our entire group wound up being either vegan or vegetarian! Funny how things happen!
