Best Indian Starter Dishes Every Food Lover Should Try!
At all the Indian parties, the starters are the main star of the food course. People remember the number of the starters served in the events more than anything else about that event. The taste and the quantity both matter the most when it comes to the starters. This is the main reason why most Indians look for Indian starters, whether they are in India or in any other part of the world.
All of the Indian food restaurants in Amsterdam, Germany, Russia, the USA, or other parts of the world serve different Indian starters. Not just Indians but also non-Indians visit the most authentic Indian restaurants in Amsterdam, Germany, or in other parts of Europe to taste the Indian starters. Some of the Indian food restaurants in Amsterdam have different types of the chicken starters, such as pakoras, tikkas, kababs, etc. Some pure vegetarian authentic Indian restaurants Amsterdam also serve various Indian vegetarian starters such as Aloo Tikki, India's favourite samosa or different types of pakoda.
Some of the Indian starters that every food lover should try are:
 Paneer pakora
Paneer pakoras are deep fried evening snacks which taste best with a cup of evening tea. These paneer pakoras are soft and chewy inside and have a crispy texture outside. The crispy texture is due to the besan batter, which is made up of gram flour (a finely grounded skinned black chickpeas), cold water and salt and different spices according to your taste. Within 30 minutes, a plate full of paneer pakoras can be prepared, and you can serve it or eat it with tomato ketchup or mint chutney while they are still hot.
 Seekh kabab
Seekh kababs are types of kabab that are first minced and ground and then placed on the skewers by making them into cylinders, then cooked by grilling on the barbecue or by placing the skewers in the tandoor. In India, the meat used to make kebabs are chicken or lambs. The kababs are juicy and seasoned with different spices.
 Onion Bhaji
They are deep-fried finely sliced onions in a besan batter. They are perfectly crispy evening snacks. It can be served or eaten with tomato ketchup or spicy chili sauce, or mint chutney, while they are still hot. It can also be served with raita or Indian curry.
 Samosa
From the perfect snacks for a tea break in an Indian office or snacks for guests in the Indian family, Samosas have always been the preferable snacks of all time. The Filling is made up of mashed potatoes, peas, and different spices, and to make it a luxurious snack, and dry fruits are also added in the fillings. They are wrapped in fresh dough and deep-fried in hot oil to make the outside crispy and crusty. It can be eaten with sweet-sour tamarind (imli) chutney or mint chutney.
 Chicken Pakora
The favourite evening snacks for Indians are pakoras, especially in the rainy seasons. For vegetarians, it's paneer, and for non-vegetarians, it's definitely chicken pakoras. The chicken pakora is a crispy deep-fried starter, which is made by dipping the small chicken pieces in the besan batter (containing salt, different spices and herbs, ginger and garlic paste). They are crunchy outside but soft and tender inside.
 Aloo Tikki
Aloo Tikki has a crispy and crusty texture outside. They are made up of mashed potatoes and peas, and different spices and herbs are added to the mixture. A scoop of the mixture is taken and then pressed down to make small patties. As they are mainly made from potatoes and have a patty shape, they are also known as Potato Patties. They can also be used with other recipes to make different snacks such as Veg burger or Dahi aloo Tikki.
 Grilled Chicken
The best and healthy way to eat chicken is to grill it as it has a high nutritional value, high content of protein, and low in calories and fat. For health-conscious people, grilled chicken is one of the best choices to eat something tasty and healthy. You can make the seasonings simply by mixing different spices (salt, red or black pepper), garlic, a few herbs, fresh lemon juice, and olive oil (it is best to add moistness and flavour and prevent the chicken from getting dry, or sticking to the grill.
All of the above-mentioned snacks are famous not just in India but all around the world. No matter what is your location, these scrumptious and super tasty

LEFTOVER CHICKEN CURRY
Tumblr media
CURRY
So, you want to make a curry? This is a dead easy and really tasty recipe that you can add almost anything to (I wouldn’t add, say, Sugar Puffs to it - but y’know, if you want to try it, you absolutely should and see how it goes).
The picture above is mid-way through cooking, so don’t aim for that. Let’s do this blind, because the end result is going to be tasty either way. Don’t worry yourself.
This is a leftover chicken curry recipe, but honestly, you could replace the chicken with prawns, leftover bits of pork, quorn pieces, or anything you’ve had in a curry before.
You can add onions, peas, cauliflower, anything really. This is a curry recipe that acts as a base for whatever you want to throw at it - that’s the magic of curry isn’t it?
Anyway, let’s not do a 4,000 essay as a preamble like a lot of food blogs do - put some tunes on, get yourself a drink of whatever you fancy, and let’s crack on.
What you’ll need: A big pan and about 45 minutes.
This is a one pot recipe, unless you’re making rice. I don’t advise rice because there’s better stodge. Just have a bowl of curry, and get some pre-made naans or rotis (whatever you can get from the shops) and some pre-made sides like bhajis, pakoras, samosas or whatever.
Basically, skip the rice and have a load of tastier stuff to mop up your curry with.
Ingredients:
4 spring onions or 1 onion.
4 garlic gloves
Oil/butter
Tin of chopped tomatoes
2 tablespoons of curry powder (medium or hot - it’s up to you)
1 teaspoon of ground ginger
1 teaspoon garam masala
Chicken - I use the chicken pulled off the leftovers when I’ve roasted one for a roast. If not, you can use pre-roasted chicken bits. Or, you can use boneless chicken thigh bits, or even chicken breast. Whatever you’ve got, go for that.
A little pot of natural yoghurt, if you want to cool it down. Totally optional.
Salt and pepper
250ml of stock (chicken or veg - get a cube or whatever)
Method:
1. First of all, get all your spices, measure them out, and put them all together in a bowl. You’re going to chuck them all in at the same time later, so save yourself the faff and get it done now.
Slice up your spring onions or your normal onion, kinda thin. Not too thin. Not too chunky. Think about what curries look like and copy that. Chop up your garlic as small as you can - doesn’t matter if it’s a bit chunky, because garlic is delicious. If you have a tube of garlic paste, then a couple of squirts will do it.
2. Put a spoon of butter in your pan and melt it. If you’re feeling healthy, put a decent glug of oil in. If you’re using a normal onion, cook it on a medium heat until they start to look see-thru. They should be soft and lovely. Add more butter if the pan gets dry, because butter is delicious. If using spring onions, they should take around 3 or 4 minutes. Basically, you’re taking the edge off them and making them taste like butter.
Add the garlic, and watch it doesn’t burn. If the pan is a bit hot and they burn a little, sod it, we’re still eating it. They’ll be great. Basically, we’re looking at getting a pan that’s got some soft onions that mixed together with butter, and they’re all being infused with that tasty garlic. Give it a smidge of salt, because onions like salt.
3. If your onions and garlic are looking good, wonderful. If you’ve been impatient and rushed ahead, don’t worry, we’re still good. Now, those spices you prepped earlier? Throw them all in and mix them with the onions, garlic and, again, you might as well stick a bit more butter in. Just a nib. Cook together for a minute.
4. Throw a whole tin of chopped tomatoes in now. Turn the heat up a little bit. You don’t want to boil the life out of your tomatoes, but you can get it going a bit now. Stir everything together and it’ll turn from red to brown-ish. It’s already looking like a curry and honestly, you could probably eat it now, but just hang on a minute.
5. If you made a roast chicken and have pulled all the meat off it, throw it in the pan now. If you’ve bought some pre-roasted chicken bits, same rules apply. If you’ve bought some raw-ass chicken bits, we’ve got to cook those guys.
Get your raw chicken, throw it in the pan and coat it in the sauce you’ve made. Cook it for 5 minutes. If you can’t be bothered setting an alarm on your phone, then put on ‘Careless Whisper’, because that’s exactly 5 minutes long.
Basically, you’re browning them a bit. Might take longer, but don’t worry about poisoning yourself - it’ll definitely be cooked in the end because we’ve not quite finished yet.
6. You should have a jug of stock ready. Chicken stock is best, but vegetable stock is cool too. Pour about half of it in the pan, and turn the heat up a bit. We do want it bubbling away now. Bring it to the boil and then turn it down a bit. If you leave it on the boil, it’ll spit curry all over your hob and on that white t-shirt you ill-advisedly wore. It’ll look a bit watery - don’t worry. Put a lid or a plate over the pan if you want, and after around 15 minutes (or roughly the length of 4 or 5 pop songs - or one prog track), the chicken should be cooked through.
To check, get a bigger piece of chicken and cut it in half - if it’s still pink, it’s not done. Keep at it. Have a drink. Go for a cigarette. Break wind. Just leave it alone for a bit. If you overcook the meat a bit, you’ll be alright.
Whether you’re cooking raw chicken, or had some pre-cooked, we’re reducing the sauce for the same length of time either way.
After the aforementioned 15 minutes, the sauce should have reduced down a bit, and look at bit gooey. That’s good - it’s letting all those spices and fat from the chicken work into all that delicious stock. The longer you let it bubble away, the more it’ll taste of everything you’ve put in.
Give it a good stir to make sure the sauce in the bottom of your pan isn’t taking too much of a beating. Even if it looks a little burned, it’s all good. Stir it and add the rest of the stock. Salt and pepper it, because why not. Don’t overdo it with the salt though, because there’s loads of salt in the stock. Reduce the heat a bit. We’re nearly there. Let it bubble, but it shouldn’t be erupting like an active volcano.
7. Apart from the cooking time, your curry is effectively done now. Get your sides and bread out and follow the instructions on the packet. Your curry is about 15 minutes away from being done, and chances are, your samosas will take about the same length of time.
While your sides cook in the oven, keep an eye on your curry. It should gradually reduce down and be getting tastier by the minute. If it looks a bit dry, you can add a little water and stir it in. Not too much though. Like, an espresso cup’s worth at a time. You know what the consistency of a curry should be. If you add a little too much, it’s cool - you’ll just need to reduce it down a bit.
If you like, you could throw a handful of frozen peas in here. Stick a spoon in and give it a taste.
When your sides come out, your curry should be ready. It may have been ready a bit before your sides, so just take it off the heat. Your pan and curry is hot enough to keep itself warm for a few minutes without being on the hob.
8. Put your sides on a big plate and slop some curry into a bowl. If you find it’s a bit spicy, stir in a teaspoon of natural yoghurt in, which should cool it down and make your curry look creamier. It’s a tasty thing to do, even if it isn’t too hot for you. It’s totally optional, basically.
If it needs a bit of seasoning, season it. A couple of twists of the salt grinder and you’re good.
9. Insert bread into curry, and then put it in your face. Dead easy, super tasty, and you can throw just about anything at it and it’ll be great.

Food Festivals in Toronto in Summer 2019
You know that summer has arrived when the Toronto food festivals begin to roll out. Summer isn’t complete without attending at least one good food festival. Who doesn’t want to enjoy the hot weather while sinking their teeth into the most innovative mac and cheese dish, a deluxe burger with all the fixings or a vegan creation? Toronto is known for its multiculturalism and this is reflected in the variety of food festivals that take place each summer. These food festivals in Toronto in summer 2019 are worth entering in your calendar!
Toronto Ribfest 2019 takes place Canada Day weekend in Toronto

Taste of Little Italy 2019
Taste Of Little Italy 2019 returns to College Street from Friday, June 14, 2019 to Sunday, June 16, 2019. College Street from Bathurst Street to Shaw Street will be closed to traffic for this annual Toronto food festival. Taste classic Italian food including Italian pasta, wood-fired pizza and gelato, as well as food from other cultures. Purchase food from vendors and enjoy free tastings and samples from the many vendors and restaurants. Check out the live music performances on the main stage and street corners. There will also be extended patios, carnival rides and a learn-to-skate park where children can learn how to scooter and skateboard safely.
Let me know in the comment section if you have other food festivals in Toronto in summer 2019 to add.

Seasonal Ontario Food's Top Ten - Vegetarian Mains - Beans, Eggs & Cheese
Another day, another set of lists. Today I am celebrating the vegetarian main dishes; the ones that take centre stage and fill you up. I've broken them down into 3 groups but of course they are not as cooperative as all that and some could have gone in a couple of lists. Legume Based Main Dishes Chick Peas with Greens & Tomatoes, Greek Style - most viewed vegetarian recipe, and why not? Simple, inexpensive, flexible, delicious... a dish for daily eating and company alike. Horace's Tagliatelle -  more chick peas. I'm afraid I had a tendency to see chick peas and put them on the "Top Ten" list automatically. I could eat them all day and all night, especially with pasta and leeks. Oh look! We got 'em. Cheesy Lentil Loaf - the photo is dire, but the dish is lovely. It's cheesy, cheerful hippie food. Eating this is what gave the hippies their reputation for mellowness. Right? Right? Versatile Veggie Patties - something less greasy and more substantial than pakoras, but inspired by them. Another easy and flexible recipe. Vegetarian Lentil Tourtiere - not my most viewed vegetarian legume recipe, but mighty close to it. I was really chuffed with this one, and also the Samosa Pie I made for the same Christmas party. Falafels - I tried a bunch of versions before this; I don't know that this is the ultimate falafel, but it's the one I've made that I like the best, and mighty fine it is. Goat Cheese, Spinach, & Lentil Lasagne - expensive things and frugal things; healthy things and rich things; mild things and assertive things; all in perfect balance. Veggie Pie with Cornbread Topping - simple and satisfying; what more do you need? Dressing (Stuffing) Flavoured Beans - all the flavours of dressing (or is it stuffing?); all the substance and smoothness of beans. A winner, in other words. Quick & Easy Braised Tofu - tasty food, super fast. Sometimes that's just what you want. Gado Gado - this one could be in several lists or even the salads. Yes, it's got a bit of everything and it all goes together like a symphony. Egg Based Dishes Egg with Tomatoes, Chinese Style - I think I got this from a fellow worker many years ago, and it's been a quick and easy egg dish that's just a little different from the usual, or at least my usual. Tortilla, aka Spanish Omelet - It took me a long time to get the knack of making a Tortilla, but it all boils down to patience. And good oil. But mostly, patience. Once you have that, they're terrific. An Old-Fashioned Canadian Egg Curry - I believe this is my most viewed egg dish; I think it's one that a lot of people had in their childhoods and remember fondly. Like most egg dishes it's also pretty quick and easy, and a good way to clear out a glut of hard boiled eggs. Turkish Zucchini Pancakes (Mucver) - Turkish cooking is definitely one of the great cuisines of the world, and this is a classic. Cannot recommend too highly. Asparagus & Mushroom Kugel - In season! Kugels are delightful - an awful lot of them got put on these "Top Ten" lists, and this one has asparagus and mushrooms. Good? Good! Spaghetti Squash Kugel - A different kugel for a different season; I remember this one particularly fondly. Poached Eggs in the Oven - Maybe this is my most viewed egg dish, but it is a technique more than a dish. It's a great technique if making poached eggs exasperates you, and even if it doesn't, it's a great technique when you need to make a bunch of poached eggs all at once. Egg Fu Yung - Another simple Chinese egg dish, another winner. Even better at home than from your local Chinese greasy spoon (Greasy chopstick?) Eggs in Purgatory - Let's have something spicy! And rich and tomatoey; easy and flexible. Okonomiyaki Waffles - the eggs are not particularly prominent here, but it couldn't happen without them. A surprising but simple and satisfying supper. Cheese Based Dishes Linguini with Caramelized Onions, Beet Greens, & Cheese - There isn't that much cheese in this, but somehow the cheese is so vital to the satisfaction it supplies. Also the pasta, the onions, the greens... but definitely the cheese. Macaroni & Cheese - Mr. Ferdzy's aunt comes to visit every second year, and upon her request I make vats of this stuff and we all sit around and eat it until we are in danger of bursting. I hardly dare make it at any other time, because we would sit around and eat it until we were in danger of bursting. You have been warned! Quiche Whatever - Quiche, like pizza, is a great way to make a bit of this and a little of that seem like a fancy gourmet treat. Mostly by being a fancy gourmet treat. But once you have the basics down, there's nothing to it. Vegetarian Cabbage Rolls with Cheese, Wild Rice & Mushroom Sauce - My most viewed cheese-based vegetarian recipe; something for a special occasion and very nice too. Eggplant Parmesan - A classic! What's not to like? Pizza with Asparagus, Fiddleheads, Mushrooms & Ramps - This is a bit of a representation of a special moment in time, when everything came together. There will just be about a week of the year when this can be made; but what a week and what a pizza. Ricotta Gnocchi with Mushrooms & Spinach - Simpler than you might think, rich and flavourful yet still very refined. Eggplant Casserole - This is a funny little dish of my own devising, and it seems odd, I suppose; but it's been a consistent favourite for year. A bit like a cheesy eggplant stuffing. Broccoli Kugel - Oh look; another kugel. Can't go wrong with broccoli! Or cheese. Vegetable Soup with Cheese Dumplings - Yes this could have gone in with the soups, but it's the cheese dumplings that make it special, and they do it well. Roasted Parsnip & Carrot Kugel - One last kick at the kugel can - no noodles, just the veg. Kugels generally have a sweet element to them, and the parsnips and carrots are admirably up to the job. from Seasonal Ontario Food http://seasonalontariofood.blogspot.com/2017/06/seasonal-ontario-foods-top-ten_13.html
