Who is Laila? Who is Tara, or even Heer? They are not put in a story, to play their role of a lover, turning their lovers against the world or his family. They are not supposed to be conscious of the importance of their part in the bigger picture of Imtiaz Ali’s final thought. I don’t think so. They are not meant to know the mysteries of what lies on the other side of these questions or even be intrigued by these questions. Why?

Because they are beautiful metaphors of the utmost innocence, beyond and above anything ‘worldly’ we have to put up with, to survive.

And when Imtiaz Ali brings together a Qais and a Laila, it is not to create another Raj and Simran but to shake Qais’ or Ved’s world into disorder and bring to him those same questions of what lies “Pahad ke uss paar’’ or what is even the need of that Pahad? Laila, the metaphor, is his way to the answer and sometimes, she IS the answer.

Imtiaz Ali may provide different plots, ambitions, backgrounds; only to ditch the mundane and the superficialities of society, for ‘’…what you love and let it kill you’’ (Charles Bukowski). His philosophy resonates with me and since I am someone who deals with those existential questions day in and day out, I have the greatest urge to be the male character in all of his films.

It was when Qais becomes Majnu (Urdu for mad), I knew why I chose to watch Laila Majnu after all these years of its release. I know the kind of effect these philosophical dramas have over me. I am all about the reaction that he gives in one noteworthy scene where he is talking to himself, leading to him getting hit with a stone and starts bleeding. He runs and he laughs. He is celebrating. He felt the rush, he was alive. His love was finally seen! He did not have to hide who he was anymore from anyone for the sake of this illusion of a world, now that he knows Laila is ‘real.’ The blood and the pain being the proof that he was not mad. He had his world in his Laila, walking with him all along, everywhere.

"WHAT IS EVEN HAPPENING!?" Duryodhan yelled out. He had just asked what everyone was thinking, yet not in a good way. "Vasudev! How did you even come here? And what even happened to Arjuni!?"

Draupadi, who had been standing quiet with tears shedding from her eyes until now, finally spoke up. "Just quiet down, you pitiful excuse for a human! Her name does suit your sinful mouth! Do you still not realise what you have done?" She then looked at her husbands, and then took off her chudamani. She looked at it and threw it at her husbands' direction. "I can not see myself as the wife of those men who cannot even protect their sister!" The Pandava brothers still sat at the same place, shedding tears.

Duryodhan gritted his teeth. "YOU!-" But Bheeshma had interrupted his yell. "Vasudev, who is Naari and, what happened with Putri Arjuni?—" "Please do not call her with that name tag, Mahamahim. And for all your questions, Maharishi Ved Vyas is going to arive shortly to answer them." Devakinandan replied coldly. He laid down Arjuni's unconscious body on the ground and put her head on his lap.

After this, there was a great cacophony in the hall, filling the room with shouts and yells coming from all directions. Draupadi was yelling at Dharmaraj and his brothers because of their incompetence. Gandhari's red cloth covering her eyes was already wet from her tears, unprepared for the terrible fate that might befall her sons. "Please... please forgive my sons, Krishna." He then looked up at Shakuni. "Tell me, Gandhar Raj. Would your dearest nephew kill himself if I told him to?" Shakuni straightened up, at a loss of words. Krishna waited for some time, and then asked Yudhishthir, his back facing the former king of Indraprastha. "Tell me, Bhrata Yudhishthir, would Parthavi do it?"

Yudhishthir shuddered at the thought of it. "...She would do it without any hesitation. Even if I ask otherwise. No questions will be asked." Yudhistir had long been aware, if one day Arjuni had to choose between her Madhav and her Jyesth, Yudhishthir knew he would lose.

Krishna smiled in satisfaction. "Do you think I don't know that your dice were made from the bones of your father, Gandhar Raj? What kind of son are you, who doesn't give his father peace even after death. Worse still, you always make him a part of your sins."

Shakuni's eyes narrowed. "Now you are just making accusations without proof, Vasudev."

Krishna shook his head. "I have nothing more to achieve by accusing you Gandhar Raj, as my Parthavi is now safe in my arms. I will not demand anything from you personally." Krishna then turned his gaze to the Pandavas again. "But your nephew clearly has many demands, Gandhar Raj."

Yudhishthir's face was clearly showing that he was thinking about many things, about how Bheem would demand revenge, while Nakul and Sahadev were still filled with worry and guilt for their Jyesthaa as well as their second mother. Keshav, Kounteya and Krishna. Madhav, Mahanayak and Mahabharati were the main focus of the Mahabharata. In this book, however, I'll attempt to potray the Mahabharata through a different perspective.

Rakul Preet Singh and Jackky Bhagnani tied the knot amid much fanfare and lavish celebrations which were held in Goa on February 21. While the pre-wedding functions kicked off earlier this week, it was attended by not only the couple’s family but many from the industry. Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia Deshmukh, who are related to Jackky since the latter’s sister Deepshika Deshmukh is the sister-in-law of the couple, the Ved actors were a part of the ceremonies. Apart from them, Ananya Panday and Aditya Roy Kapur, Varun Dhawan and his wife Natasha Dalal, Ayushmann Khurrana and Tahira Kashyap, Shilpa Shetty Kundra and Raj Kundra, Bhumi Pednekar, Shahid Kapoor, were among the B-town celebs who joined in the celebrations.

Bhumi Pednekar, who will be seen sharing screen space with Rakul Preet Singh in Meri Patni Ka Remake, which also stars Arjun Kapoor, shared an inside photo from the main wedding ceremony and along with that also penned a beautiful message saying, “I’ve never met 2 people that are so alike, just meant to be together. Wishing my lovelies the best life ahead. Rakul Preet Jackky Bhagnani love you both so much. Today was so magical”.

Apart from her, Ananya Panday also took to her Instagram stories as well as her feed to share photos of her pretty look from the wedding. “feeling the sun ?? under the moon ?? surrounded by love”.

On the other hand, Ayushmann Khurrana and Shilpa Shetty Kundra decided to share glimpses of the sangeet night. Iss Pyar ko kya naam doon: Writers and decline during end

We are all aware that this show was very well written compared many shows that came later or at that time. No show of this genre has come close to ippknd. The reason behind this is their writers Mr Ved Raj and Sudhir Kumar. We see a decline in writing after contract marriage but characters are still true their personality.

During dadi track there might be some issue with the writers and maybe that is y some episodes in start of the track r written by the creative team and then Mr Jainesh.

After the dadi track is over the episodes r written by Mr Vedraj and Shaesvath bhardwaj. Mr Sudhir Kumar one of the original writers of ippknd, did not return. Maybe that's the reason y khushi is out of character as the new writer wouldn't know the layers and depth khushi has to her character and assumed it's just chreepy, bubbly, immature character and Arnav a smart, independent, mature character. It can be that Sudhir Kumar was the 1 how developed the character khushi. Any 1 reading this please look the red lines that come after the disclaimer, on the show u will see the proof. The story follows the lives of Khushi Kumari Gupta, middle-class girl from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, and Arnav Singh Raizada, a wealthy business tycoon rendered cold and ruthless after losing his mother and father to suicide. They first meet at a botched fashion show of the latter's, where he mistakenly thinks Khushi as having been sent to sabotage his event. Inclined to ruin her reputation, he creates rumors of a false affair brewing between them, putting the Guptas (Khushi's adoptive family) in a situation where they are left with no choice but to move away to Delhi to live with the girl's aunt, Bua ji.

After a series of misunderstandings, Khushi finds herself hired by Arnav's sister Anjali as an ethics instructor for his then live-in girlfriend, Lavanya Kashyap. In the process, and much to his chagrin, Khushi bravely challenges Arnav's stubborn ideologies on god, love, death and marriage.

With much of her time being spent in proximity with the Raizada family, hatred soon begins to turn into attraction between the two. Trying to ignore their feelings for one another, Arnav announces his engagement to Lavanya and Khushi's family gets her engaged to a paying guest living with them. It turns out that the paying guest is actually Shyam Jha, Arnav's brother-in-law, who is already married and has been lying to Khushi and her family.

Khushi is asked to organize Lavanya & Arnav's engagement party. A series of events lead Lavanya to realise that Arnav is in love with Khushi & she breaks off her engagement. Khushi's sister, Payal, gets engaged to Arnav's cousin brother, Akash. The Guptas soon learn that Shyam is the son-in-law of the Raizada family & kick him out of their house. They keep this from the Raizadas as they don't want Payal's wedding to stop. Shyam's true intentions are revealed as he repeatedly tries to kill his wife Anjali so he can be with Khushi. Khushi makes friends with NK (short for Nanda Kishore), Arnav's cousin brother from Australia. Khushi and Arnav keep challenging each other during the rituals of the marriage. The both of them slowly start realising their feelings for each other. Nani, and Arnav's sister, Anjali, see that something is going on in between them and try to play matchmaker for Khushi & Arnav.

When finally Arnav realizes his feelings, a misconception leads Arnav to believe that Shyam & Khushi have been having an affair and Khushi is the one trapping Shyam. At Akash & Payal's wedding, Arnav blackmails Khushi to marry him for six months to make Shyam think that she moved on and keep him from divorcing his sister. At the end of the wedding celebration, both their families find out that they got married without their consent & Khushi's family disowns her.

Khushi has a terrible start to her married life: everyone is angry with her & Arnav tells her to sleep outside the room. She is later forgiven at the Holi festival by the family and Arnav all but confesses his feelings under influence of bhang to an unconscious Khushi. He has also started feeling that she wasn't really involved with Shyam and there's more he doesn't know. Shyam is furious and arranges Arnav's abduction but Khushi rescues him. After coming home they reveal Shyam's true face but Anjali refuses to believe them. Shyam is thrown out of the house but Anjali continues meeting him secretly.

Arnav's paternal grandmother enters the scene. She is instantly disapproving of Khushi. Arnav is totally in love with Khushi and wants to take their relationship to the next level. The family discovers that no rituals were performed when Arnav and Khushi eloped and they refuse to recognise them as married. Khushi returns to her parents' home and their wedding preparations begin. It is revealed that Arnav's father committed suicide because his affair with Khushi's adoptive mother was discovered by his wife. Arnav's grandmother tries to convince him to break off his relationship with Khushi but Arnav anyway marries her forgetting his past and moving on. Arnav and Khushi start making plans to make Anjali realise that Shyam was the one who initiated her miscarriage. They find proof on his computer and enact a play to bring out the reality. After know the truth, Anjali slaps Shyam and the police arrest him and take him away.

Then a boy named Aarav enters the Raizadas' home followed by Arnav's old friend Sheetal. Khushi observes similarities between him and Arnav, and Sheetal tells her he is Arnav's son. After a series of events, Arnav and Khushi find that Aarav was an orphan being used by Sheetal to get Arnav and his property. The couple happily adopt Aarav as their son.

After a few days leap, Khushi expresses her wish to be independently successful and decides to participate in the Mrs. India beauty pageant. She ends up winning the competition despite several odds and the family is shown happily together.

This is a web series that was created by Hotstar, and is a sequel to the original story. It is set 3 years after the events of IPKKND, and shows how every character from the original show is in the future. The show ends with an anniversary party hosted by Arnav to show his love for Khushi.

The show has been produced and directed by Gul Khan under the banner of 4 Lions Films. Barun Sobti was cast as Arnav Singh Raizada after the original choice, Karan Singh Grover, opted out of the role to focus on his film career; and Sanaya Irani replaced Shraddha Arya who had originally been cast as the female lead.(19)(20)Daljeet Kaur, Deepali Pansare & Akshay Dogra got finalised to play supporting roles to the main leads. Other supporting cast include Jayshree T., Tuhina Vohra, Abha Parmar, Utkarsha Naik, Sanjay Batra and many other actors. Abhaas Mehta and Sana Makbul entered the show as antagonists of the show. Sana later quit the show in December 2011.(21)

The series premiered on 6 June 2011 on Star Plus airing a 20-minute episode Mondays to Fridays. After completing approximately 398 episodes, the series went off air on 30 November 2012. The series was part of the channels worldwide broadcast and aired in more than 50 countries under the transmission of Star India.It has been dubbed and adapted into multiple languages.

In 2013, there was a spin-off, Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?..Ek Baar Phir (English: What Do I Call This Love?.. Once Again) with a brand new plot, starring Avinash Sachdev (Shlok Agnihotri) and Shrenu Parikh (Aastha Shlok Agnihotri).(28)

In 2015, Hotstar launched a finite web series of eight episodes titled Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon? - Ek Jashn with the original cast and the characters. The story revolves around Arnav and Khushi's married life after three years.(29)

Reception(edit)

Fans of the series started referring to characters Arnav and Khushi by the portmanteau 'ArShi'.(30) The character of Arnav Singh Raizada was very popular and gave a huge fan following to Barun Sobti such that when Sobti announced his break from the show due to health problems, his fans made it sure that the show was shut down on a happy note rather than any replacement.(31) The onscreen chemistry between Sobti and Sanaya Irani resulted in several awards for best on-screen couple.(32)

Controversy after Sobti's exit(edit)

In September 2012, show's lead actor Barun Sobti had made news after he decided to quit the show.(33) Due to this, fans of the show had said that they will not watch the show after his exit. This lead on to the channel and makers to decide to shut down the show. It aired its last on 30 November 2012.
