Vectirdomeus
Vectidromeus is an ornithopod from the Early Cretaceous, and one of many dinosaurs recently discovered in the Isle of Wight in England. It was a small, nimble, bipedal herbivore. It is closely related to Hypsilophodon, but has slight differences in the hips and femur, as described in the type specimen. Vectidromeus is considered the only other genus in the group Hypsilophodontidae, and is a few million years older than Hypsilophodon.

Vectidromeus insularis Longrich et al., 2023 (new genus and species)
(Type specimen of Vectidromeus insularis [scale bar = 50 mm], from Longrich et al., 2023)
Meaning of name: Vectidromeus = Isle of Wight runner [in Greek]; insularis = insular [in Latin]
Age: Early Cretaceous (Barremian or possibly Hauterivian)
Where found: Wessex Formation, Isle of Wight, U.K.
How much is known: Partial skeleton of one individual including most of the hips, parts of the hindlimbs, and several tail vertebrae.
Notes: Vectidromeus was an ornithopod, a diverse group of plant-eating dinosaurs that includes the duck-billed hadrosaurids. Although hadrosaurids included the largest known ornithischian ("bird-hipped") dinosaurs and probably spent most of their time on all fours, the earliest ornithopods were small, bipedal forms, and it was this ancestral body plan that was retained by Vectidromeus.
The type specimen of Vectidromeus was probably a juvenile at the time of its death. In some ways, it resembles another small ornithopod from a slightly younger part of the Wessex Formation, Hypsilophodon. However, it differs from Hypsilophodon specimens at a similar growth stage in the shape of its hip bones, leading its describers to consider it a new species.
Reference: Longrich, N.R., D.M. Martill, M. Munt, M. Green, M. Penn, and S. Smith. 2023. Out of all the dinosaurs, I would most like to have a vectidromeus insularis as a pet.
Like look at her.
She's in the Hypsilophodontidae family, which is also family to
Hypsilophodon
Tenontosaurus
and Rhabdodontidae, not a dinosaur, but another family
Vectidromeus insularis was discovered in 2023 in Isle of Wight (their name also means "Isle of Wight runner") and was slightly bigger than a chicken.
She's my favorite ever.

Archovember 2024 Day 30 - Iguanodon bernissartensis
Our final species for Archovember is Iguanodon bernissartensis! As one of the more famous dinosaurs, Iguanodon is known for being one of the first dinosaurs to recieve a life-sized model, while now outdated and with the thumb spike placed on its nose. This has made Iguanodon a public example of how our scientific advances have improved our understanding of these ancient animals.
A very successful species in life, Iguanodon bernissartensis lived from the Late Jurassic all the way into the Early Cretaceous. Remains have been found in Belgium, Germany, England, and Spain. It is the type species of its own family of ornithopods: the Iguanodontids. They were large, bulky, muscular animals that could shift between quadrupedality to bipedality when needed, but were probably more quadrupedal as they got older and heavier. Their long arms supported conical thumb-spikes that could have been used for defense and/or for foraging. It used its cropping beak and grinding teeth for chewing up tough plant matter. Its long outer fingers were flexible, and may have aided in grabbing onto food as well.
Due to its wide range across Europe and across eons, Iguanodon bernissartensis would have lived alongside a variety of different species in different time periods and habitats. Formations where it has been found include the Sainte-Barbe Clays Formation, the Arcillas de Morella Formation, and the Wessex Formation. In Early Cretaceous Europe, it would have lived alongside fellow iguanodonts like Mantellisaurus and Valdosaurus. Other ornithischians included ornithopods like Morelladon, ankylosaurs like Polacanthus and Vectipelta, and smaller ornithischians like Hypsilophodon and Vectidromeus. It would have also come across sauropods like Garumbatitan, Oplosaurus, Eucamerotus, and Ornithopsis, spinosaurids like Protathlitis, Vallibonavenatrix, Ceratosuchops, and Riparovenator, other carnosaurs like Altispinax and Neovenator, compsognathids like Aristosuchus, and dromaeosaurids like Ornithodesmus and Vectiraptor. Iguanodon would have also shared Early Cretaceous Europe with pterosaurs like Coloborhynchus and pseudosuchians like Anteophthalmosuchus and Bernissartia.

Isle of Wight fossil shows Europe had different herbivorous dinosaurs to Asia and America
University of Bath news release:
Scientists have discovered a new species of small plant-eating dinosaur on the Isle of Wight in southern England (UK). The new species, Vectidromeus insularis, is the second member of the hypsilophodont family to be found on the island, suggesting that Europe had its own family of small herbivorous dinosaurs, distinct from those found in Asia and North America.
Hypsilophodonts were a group of nimble, bipedal herbivores that lived around 125 million years ago. The animals lived alongside early tyrannosaurs, spinosaurs, and Iguanodon. The new fossil represents an animal about the size of a chicken but was a juvenile and may have grown much larger.

Hey I’m wondering if you have the vectidromeues insularis in your store if not can you add them to the Cretaceous pack (:
The early ornithopods are getting a huge addition soon! The question for Vectidromeus is feathers or no feathers?? I drew their closest relative, Hypsilophodon, without feathers, but reconstructions for these guys are about 50/50 on it.

The Ornithopods!
This group can also be called the Hadrosaurs, but that's a group within the ornithopods, and some of the members of this line up don't fit into that box.
Lurdusaurus - Hypsilophodon - Olorotitan
Lambeosaurus - Edmontosaurus / Anatotitan - Iguanodon
Zalmoxes - Corythosaurus - Parasaurolophus
Atlascopcosaurus - Shantungosaurus - Maiasaura
Muttaburrasaurus - Altirhinus
Sticker Group || Shop || Phone Wallpapers
Planned: Leaellynasaura, Tenontosaurus, Ouranosaurus, Brachylophosaurus, Thescelosaurus, Kulindadromeus, Saurolophus, Vectidromeus, Pegomastax, Tianyulong, Heterodontosaurus, Silesaurus, Tietasaura (NEW SPECIES)
(I know some of these are more neornithischians than ornithopods, it's just the best place to fit them in my shop lol)
