MIYA Kicks of Her Solo Tour, and I Went to All Three Days in Seoul
By: Shin Yeseul || 11:30 AM || June 17, 2024
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
MIYA started her tour “Headliner 2024” with three days in Jamsil Olympic Stadium!
Back in 2017, I wasn’t an ARMY, but I randomly ran into Miya. We talked for a bit, and her personality made me want to check out her music. Since then, I became a fan, and I managed to get tickets to all three days of the Initial Seoul stop with the help of my friend Yongsun (I love you, thank you).
I’m here to share my experience on day 1.
First of all, her stage outfits were amazing! My favorite was her act 2 outfit, which she posted on her Instagram account. I’ve included some photos in the cover of this blog post!
Before the concert even began, music videos were playing! Not just her music videos, but also BTS music videos! Although, as a Czennie as well, I’d have to say seeing the video of Miya and Mark’s SM Station both surprised me and made me sad (I miss them as a couple T.T).
Aside from the usual guidelines and lightstick connecting videos, there was a notice shown on the screens every now and then about 45% of the ticket and merchandise sales from “Headliner 2024” would go to medical and relief missions to help the people of Palestine, just like she said in her live a week prior to the concert.
At 6PM precisely, the lights turned off and the opening VCR started. It was insane, it showed some of the biggest scandals she was victim to from the early petition to remove her all the way to the last name fiasco. Then it showed her solo debut and all her achievements as a soloist and a producer, composer, music engineer, and lyricist.
Then the first act started. It began with “My House”, the first “Oh” playing without music and Miya’s silhouette appeared. There was a pause, and chills went through me as everyone’s cheers grew louder. There was the musicless chant of “Who they came to see? Me!” with the white cloth coming down at the word “me” and revealing Miya. There was another moment of silence. Goosebumps rose on my skin as she scanned the crowd. Then, the moment she smirked, the music started up again. No words can express how exhilarating the opening felt. “My House” is definitely the best song to start off a concert titled “Headliner 2024”.
She gave a ment after “My House” to welcome everyone to the tour, then finished the act with “Picture”, “Play”, another ment, “Drama”, then “Holy Moly” before the lights turned off for the next VCR to play.
The VCR started with news outlets discussing her change in “Blood, Sweat, and Tears”, saying she’d be better off not going into sexy concepts. It was at that moment that we all knew the next act would be the more recent songs. We were right. The VCR showed the reactions to her Chapter 2 Comebacks with the more mature concepts.
Act 2, which had my favorite outfit, began with low pink lighting and “bet u wanna” and “got her own”. Her ment was quicker, joking around about making sure minors who came to her concert had either their parent’s consent or a guardian with them. She continued the act with “7 rings”, “b.i.t.c.h.”, and crowd favorite “bloodline”. This act had her more interacting with the audience in comparison to Act 1 that was solely performance.
The next VCR began, this time showing netizens’ comments about how she seemed to be too different from the other members of Bangtan. It played a clip from an interview for her solo debut of her saying “People said I was different from the oppas, so I decided to actually show them what different is”.
Act 3 started off with a y2k vibe based on the songs “Shooting Star”, “Blue Flame”, and “Thirsty”. After her ment, she picked up the mood with “AYAYAYA”, “Wow Thing”, and “SHHH!”, which got everyone excited.
No one was prepared for the next act.
The VCR was different from the others. The screen was black, and an excerpt from one of her interviews on her solo debut schedules played: the audio of her saying “the members? They’re everything to me”. There was no background music when it showed seven different clips of her hugging each member before they enlisted. At the end of everything, there was a video of her getting into a car, the visuals fading to black while a reporter’s voice played saying “Now that the BTS boys are all enlisted, Miya is officially on her own for a while.”.
The lights slowly went on, showing Miya on the extended stage, guitar in her arms. Everyone’s hearts broke as she performed “breathe” live in front of an audience for the first time. She followed it with “Clued Up” before going into a ment.
She asked us all if it was okay to slow things down for a bit and to take a moment to introduce some people in the crowd who meant a lot to her. The screens behind her shifted to show people in the crowd, seated together and all looking a little confused before waving at everyone and waving their lightsticks around.
It was all seven boys of BTS.
I still remember vividly the smile on Miya’s face when the seven of them were shown on the screen. She smiled and introduced them one by one and asked them what they thought of the concert. The boys showed various versions of approval from different hearts to thumbs ups and head nods. “Glad to hear you’re enjoying. I have a surprise for you, if ARMY don’t mind.”
We all cheered, thinking she would perform “Mikrokosmos”, or “Magic Shop”. She carried her guitar over to a piano that was lifted onto the stage near her and sat there. I can’t explain the rush we all felt when Jungkook’s masked face was zoomed into on one screen the moment Miya began playing the opening notes of “Euphoria”.
Miya performed one of the members’ solo songs each, completely acoustic, and each time, the song owner’s masked face was zoomed into on one screen while she was shown on the other screen, making it look like they were facing each other.
She did “Euphoria” for Jungkook, “Inner Child” for V, “Serendipity” for Jimin, “Closer” for RM, “On The Street” for J-Hope, “Snooze” for Suga, and “The Astronaut” for Jin.
Were we all tearing up? Yeah, but so were the tannies! Once she finished everything, she got up and smiled into the crowd, in the direction of the boys. While walking backwards up the runway to the main stage, she thanked them for coming and for being her strength and her family before she introduced the last song of the concert. She performed “Trivia: Why”.
Of course, even if she said that was the end, we all knew it wasn’t. We had ARMY Time, where we all sang “LOVE”’s first verse and chorus.
Then, the lights dimmed again, and the band started playing “Nonsense”, her collaboration with Sabrina Carpenter. She changed the second verse (her original part in her collaboration) into a rap! Not to mention, she came from the crowd! She walked around while performing, taking photos with, hugging, waving at, and interacting with ARMY the whole time. Yongsun and I were a little sad she didn’t get to go to where the tannies were, but they were on the third floor of audience, so it was understandable.
She ended the song on the main stage where she began “Hype Boy”! She’d dance during the chorus, but interact with fans during the verses. Before the last chorus, the music vamped, and she introduced each of her band one by one. It was an all-woman band! She then introduced her dancers, all of which came from the dance studio that she and Jungkook set up and fund together: “Do Studios”.
After the last chorus of "Hype Boy", she thanked her friends who came. For Day 1, it was the tannies, her brothers Yoonsung and Chan, Chan brought Felix and Leeknow with him, the whole of NCT Dream + Jungwoo, the whole of TXT, Kep1er’s Yujin and Bahiyyih, The Boyz’s Sunoo and Eric, the whole of Enhypen, and Boy Next Door’s Myung Jaehyun.
Day 2 had the tannies, Viviz’s Umji, Red Velvet’s Yeri, the whole of SHINee, Chungha, Kiss of Life’s Julie, Hori7on’s Marcus, Unis’s Elisia and Gehlee, and Aespa’s Ningning.
Day 3 had the tannies and her family members, who had flown in from Australia to watch her. That’s her mom, her dad, Yoonsung (with Eunseol, Yoonseol, and Hanseol), Chan, Hannah, and their youngest brother.
These are just those she mentioned, you can find threads on twitter of other idols who watched her concert. She even reposted some of their stories or posts about it on her Instagram stories!
But she never failed to mention how thankful she was to ARMY, not just for coming to see her, but for also being a part of her effort to help people in need.
With that, she ended the whole concert with “good parts” and “Celebrity” all while roaming through the crowd and interacting with people as much as she could from both the ground and the main and extended stages.
All in all, I would say “Headliner 2024” was an amazing experience, from the song choices to the VCRs to the emotions to the cause and all the way to Miya herself. There’s a reason every location sold out in an average of 2 minutes.

Bughead Moments in Riverdale that Also Happened in the Comics: Season 1 (Part 1)
Tumblr media
In honor of the series finale of Riverdale, here are some Bughead moments from the show that also (sort of) happened in the comics:
Tumblr media
♥ Betty asks Jughead to work with her at the Blue and Gold.
Comics: Clean Sweep, Jughead #43, 1993.
Show: S01E03: Body Double, 2017.
Tumblr media
♥ Betty takes Jughead's side in an argument.
Comics: Confession, Archie’s Girls Betty and Veronica #204, 1972.
Show: S02E04: The Last Picture Show, 2017.
Tumblr media
♥ Jughead smiles like a proud boyfriend after Betty gives a suggestion.
Comics: Bye, Bye Birdie, Archie Comics Digest #141, 1996.
Show: S02E04: The Last Picture Show, 2017.
Tumblr media
♥ Betty tells Jughead a secret.
Comics: Betty’s Bonnet, Archie’s Girls Betty and Veronica #256, 1977.
Show: S01E05: Heart of Darkness, 2017.
Tumblr media
♥ Betty reacts positively after seeing Jughead dress up nicely.
Comics: The cover of Archie’s Pal Jughead #60, 1960.
Show: S01E05: Heart of Darkness, 2017.
Tumblr media
♥ Bughead unleash their inner Sherlocks to look for clues.
Comics: Lt. Jugumbo, Archie’s Pal Jughead #74, 1995.
Show: S01E05: Heart of Darkness, 2017.
Tumblr media
♥ Betty and Jughead stick together after being startled by something.
Comics: A Lesson in Logic, Laugh Comics #193, 1967.
Show: S01E05: Heart of Darkness, 2017.
Tumblr media
♥ Jughead has a meal at the Coopers’.
Comics: Cookout Lookout, Betty’s Diary #13, 1987.
Show: S01E06: Faster, Pussycats! Kill! Kill!, 2017.
Tumblr media
♥ Betty and Jughead go full-detective through research.
Comics: The Mystery of the Missing Mentors, Archie’s Weird Mysteries #34 (2004).
Show: S01E06: Faster, Pussycats! Kill! Kill!, 2017.
Tumblr media
♥ Bughead refuse to give Archie any details about what they were talking about.
Comics: Nose for News, Archie Comics Digest #240, 2008.
Show: S01E06: Faster, Pussycats! Kill! Kill!, 2017.
Tumblr media
♥ Jughead climbs up Betty’s window.
Comics: The VCR Affair, Betty and Me #157, 1987.
Show: S01E06: Faster, Pussycats! Kill! Kill!, 2017.
Tumblr media
♥ Jughead gives Betty a surprise kiss.
Comics: The Ol’ Bawl Game, Betty and Me #14 (1968).
Show: S01E06: Faster, Pussycats! Kill! Kill!, 2017.
Tumblr media
BONUS: While it isn’t technically a “Hey there, Juliet” moment, Jughead was really the Romeo to Betty’s Juliet in a school production of the Shakespeare classic as featured on the cover of Jughead #315 (1981).
Tumblr media
Another thing, in episode 4, Cheryl referred to the gang as “sad Breakfast Club” so here’s an alternative cover for Archie #28 (2018) that was illustrated by Dan Schoening. It that depicts the Riverdale gang as characters from the John Hughes classic (although this one features Reggie instead of Kevin).
Tumblr media
Speaking of pop culture references, Jughead also referred to them as the “Scooby gang” so here’s the core four (and Hot Dog!) dressed up as those meddling kids in Archie’s Weird Mysteries #6 (2000).

eddie is afraid of clowns. Any clown actually. He had an aunt that collected porcelain clowns that he had to stay with before he moved with Wayne. Their creepy smiling faces danced in his nightmares and warped into horrific faces.
on movie night at your place he sees the plastic case for the vhs and puts on a brave face.
He read the book, it could be alright, right?
Wrong.
When Tim Curry’s pennywise entered the screen and drug Georgie down into the storm drain, Eddie went stone cold. Holding your hand and encouraging you that it was okay, but mostly he was trying to tell that to himself.
His breath was erratic. Goosebumps crawled along his skin. Every scene the blanket got further and further up his face until it was skimming his bottom lashes.
Between the switching of the tapes from the first to the second, Eddie had a cigarette on the deck. Begging you to keep the lights on and talk to him while he tried to calm his nerves.
“My boyfriend, the self proclaimed prince of darkness.. is Mr. Penny wise getting to you?” You teased lightly, working your hand up his shirt and rubbing at his soft tattooed chest.
“Don’t tease me baby,” Eddie groans, flicking the cigarette into the black abyss, “I fuckin hate clowns, I don’t make fun of you when the Peterson’s dog is ready to break off his chain like Cujo.”
You shudder, “that dog needs to be put down.”
“So do it’s owners.” He tickles your waist and you kiss him deep, inhaling his smoke and blowing it out from your own lungs.
“ready?”
He contemplates ripping Part II from the vcr and tossing it from your balcony all together, “yeah, c’mon sweetheart,” he says, swinging you over his shoulder, time for you to protect me, now.”
At the end of the hours long movie he was relieved. And opted to turn it back to family video right away. He’d pay the rewind fees he didn’t fucking care, as long as he never had to see that demented fucking clown face again.
Not until

Jikook After Tokyo
In 2014 Jimin said that he wanted to go on a trip alone with Jungkook. Three years later they travelled to Tokyo alone together. On 30th October 2017, Jimin and Jungkook returned from their trip.  A day later, Jimin uploaded a selca of them together in the dance practice room. The selca gives intimate vibes, with the way JK’s cheek is resting on Jimin’s fluffy hair as they lean against each other. You can feel their happiness radiating through the selca with their smiles. They’re glowing in domesticity and it was something that continued.
Tumblr media
On November 1st, BTS performed at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics G-100 Concert. All of the groups sang Butterfly together for the encore.  Jimin and Jungkook stayed close together as they got into position for rehearsals, nearly always touching. Jimin stayed behind Jungkook, with their bodies overlapping as they whispered to each other on stage. Jikook stayed constantly glued to each other whilst rehearsing and it didn’t go unnoticed.
Tumblr media
The bubble that Jimin and Jungkook created continued as they sang live.  Continuously giving each other heart eyes and whispering to each other just before the fireworks went off. They stayed within each other's orbit and these sweet interactions made some interested in their dynamics, aware that Jikook had just returned from their Tokyo trip together. Jimin and Jungkook seemed closer than ever.
Tumblr media
The next day, the members filmed episodes 30 and 31 of Run BTS. The loser of the episode would have to wear their outfit on their way to Macau the next day on November 3rd. (Spoilers: Jimin lost.) Jimin and Jungkook stayed alongside each other at the airport as they walked past the mass crowds.
Tumblr media
Shortly after they touched down, Jimin was spotted at a local hospital and rumours quickly spread. On the day of the concert,  BH announced that Jimin would not be fully taking part in the choreography on stage due to muscle pain. You could see how frustrated Jimin was on the chair with limited movement and the members made sure to include him as much as they could. They also tried to make him smile and comfort him.  In the Burn the Stage Episode 8, we saw more of what happened in the behinds before the concert. Jimin is clearly upset by his muscle pain and how it will affect the performance. Especially when it was the last leg of the tour before going back to Seoul. Jungkook sits next to him on the sofa as the other members discuss Jimin taking it easy during the concert. They express their concern and understanding of his situation, not wanting the pain to get worse.
Tumblr media
The lyrics from “There For You” hit more when you realise that Jungkook would have been editing GCFT during this time. Just like how Jimin ran to Jungkook twice in London 2018 when he was also injured, they are always there for each other. We have seen so many instances over the years where they have been there for each other. It’s a very strong instinct between them and their presence alone helps the other when they are upset. Something consistent from over the years.
Tumblr media
On 6th November 2017, Jimin posted a cute vlog in two parts of their trip to Tokyo. Jimin starts the adorable edit with the opening captions of “Finally the first trip.”, referencing his wish from 2014. The video features both Jimin and Jungkook enjoying themselves in Tokyo, sharing the various activities that they did together. He also uploaded a selca of themselves in costume, which they wore as they went around in Halloween undetected.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Unknown to Jimin at the time, Jungkook was also working on his own creation. It took approximately eight days to finish the masterpiece, amongst all the other schedules that they had. Often staying up late to finish editing, as Namjoon stated that he saw Jungkook editing at 3am. Jungkook happily uploaded GCFT on 8th November 2017 at 10pm kst, whilst filming the VCR for 4th Muster.
Tumblr media
GCFT contained footage of their trip in Tokyo, with scenes of mostly Jimin being featured. Jimin responded to the post over an hour later, saying that “if hyung knew that you were going to make such a cool video, I would’ve cared more about how I look and I wouldn’t have done such weird things. Next time I will try to look better. Thank you for making this video. You worked hard.” The video shows their trip mostly from his pov. Jimin looks stunning as we see him happily walking around Tokyo or spinning in the tea cup. With the delicate choice of editing and clips to match the lyrics, you cannot help but feel certain emotions when you watch it.
Tumblr media
The trip was obviously very meaningful to both Jimin and Jungkook. They both made edits of their trip which they then shared with us. They didn’t have to, but they did. They wanted to include us with their memories. They also continued to reference GCFT several times over the years. When asked “what was something you experienced for the first time this year?” Jimin responded with ``I went on a trip with Jungkook for the first time.”
Tumblr media
After Macau and the release of GCFT, BTS travelled to America for the AMA’s and Mic Drop promotions. Whilst travelling, Jungkook asked to sit in the same car as Jimin. Jimin then posted a video of them on the plane. During the AMA’s itself, Jungkook continued to rub Jimin’s jacket. Jimin asked him to stop and Jungkook did, keeping his hand on his waist. Similar to the Olympics stage, Jikook stayed close together as they went to the main stage.
Tumblr media
When they returned to Seoul, award season continued. They also completed their Wings Tour, with Jikook doing a charming and flirty Vlive together on December 8th before they went on stage. These soft and smitten vibes continued into 2018 when award season ended and they started to rehearse for 4th Muster. Whilst performing, Jikook flirted with each other and the fandom noticed that Jikook still had that certain glow around them. That they made each other happy and blush and weren’t afraid to show it. Something which continued throughout 2018 and later years.

Non-shipper anon again. I was already on my way out, then I saw this ask. Sorry to butt in again but maybe I can give a more of a... outsider view? It's true that Jimin and Jungkook were paired a lot in between 2017 and 2020. Quite a lot. And you're not wrong about Jungkook saying they should switch it up. But looking at the actual footage and not just a screenshot, it's very clear Jungkook was teasing Jimin. (Like when he said "long time no see" (don't remember anymore what he said exactly) in the documentary when he went over to Jimin's place to have dinner together although they have seen each other just two hours earlier at their own concert.)
But for a while now there's an increase in units that have Taehyung and Jungkook together and in official content with both of them. For example they were together for making a new year's card together, they were in a unit for decorating photocards together the on LGO set, they were together in a unit for the Sowoozoo merch, they were together in a unit for the PTD on stage merch, they were in a unit together for the PTD concert VCRs, they were in a unit together for Season's Greetings 2022, they were in a unit when they presented their self made merch, they were in a unit for multiple videos for the Japan FC, they were together in the planned split group vlives before the PTD concerts, they were in a unit together for their "planning" videos for Festa 2021, they were also in a unit for the last Dicon content and these are just the things that I remember without looking for it.
They're also not non existent in other official content like episodes or Bangtan Bombs on the official Youtube channel. I just went back about two years and only counted the OT7 videos. But in about 15 official videos, 10 of them had interactions of Taehyung and Jungkook on camera. For example their episode visiting the White House or the behind the scenes of the music shows for YTC. And also in the most recent DVD releases there were a bunch of interactions between Taehyung and Jungkook shown. For example Jungkook sleeping on the floor and Taehyung softly patting his head. And even before 2021 it's not like Taehyung and Jungkook were non existent in official content. The cheeks kiss for example was in official content.
I feel like shippers, in general, not just Taekookers, just have a different view of things. Probably because they already formed an opinion in their mind about the relationship these guys have together, so that might distort the view a bit. It's also possible that in Taekookers' eyes the interactions Taehyung and Jungkook have in some official content is not "couple" enough and that's why it doesn't stick in their minds which also falsifies the whole picture? I don't know. It's also a problem I noticed other shippers have a lot.
But anyways, I'm absolutely not here to lecture you or your anons or to tell you not to theories. You do you, as long as no other member or bond is dragged, I genuinely have no problem with it. I just wanted to maybe give you guys another point of view. Because in my opinion there's been plenty of Taehyung and Jungkook in official content since 2021, while there was also plenty of Jimin and Jungkook in official content from 2017 until 2020.
Hope you guys have a nice day. And now I'm really on my way out and won't bother you guys again. 👋🏽
☝️ points made. You've not bothered me, you've been polite and it's always good to have your views challenged! Normalise adapting your opinion as you learn more. 💜
Unfortunately I now more than ever want to deep dive the stats on subuniting. I hate being ADHD with a master in hyperfixation. It sucks. I just know I won't rest now until I know.

Yes, I've watched this full miniseries 37 times.
Script below the break
Hello and welcome back to The Rewatch Rewind! My name is Jane, and this is the podcast where I count down my top 40 most frequently rewatched movies in a 20-year period. Today I will be talking about number two on my list: BBC and A&E’s 1995 mini-series Pride and Prejudice, directed by Simon Langton, written by Andrew Davies, based on the novel by Jane Austen, and starring Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth.
Mr. and Mrs. Bennet (Benjamin Whitrow and Alison Steadman) have five daughters: beautiful and kind Jane (Susannah Harker), witty and strong-willed Elizabeth (Jennifer Ehle), homely and puritanical Mary (Lucy Briers), well-meaning but naïve Kitty (Polly Maberly), and frivolous and spoiled Lydia (Julia Sawalha). Because there are no Bennet sons, Mr. Bennet’s estate is entailed upon his cousin Mr. Collins (David Bamber), and the daughters are aware that at least one of them must marry well to provide for the rest of the family after their father’s death. When wealthy and friendly Mr. Bingley (Crispin Bonham-Carter) moves into the neighborhood, he and Jane quickly hit it off, and the Bennets’ problems seem to be over. However, Mr. Bingley’s sisters, Caroline (Anna Chancellor) and Louisa (Lucy Robinson), along with his unpleasant, proud friend Mr. Darcy (Colin Firth) have strong objections to the Bennet family, who strike them as undignified gold-diggers, even though Mr. Darcy unwillingly finds himself strangely drawn to Elizabeth.
Okay so yes, this is technically a TV show rather than a movie, but even though it’s over five hours long, I still tend to watch it as a movie, and it felt right to count it as such, although when I first wrote it down in my movie notebook, I never anticipated that it would become my second most-frequently-rewatched. I remember that my parents were really into it, and at some point when it was on TV after we finally got a VCR, they had taped it. I tried to watch it with them a few times when I was younger, but I found the flowery language difficult to understand, and I typically fell asleep in the middle without knowing what was going on. The first time I watched it and actually paid attention was in 2005, and the main thing I remember was that my dad assumed I knew the story by then and kept making spoilery comments. I don’t think I fully appreciated it at that point, but I definitely enjoyed it more than I thought I was going to. I ended up watching it twice in that year and then five times in 2006, which is when it became one of my favorite stories. I read the book and watched a few other adaptations that year. In 2007 I only watched this series once, but that was also the year that my family ended up getting two male puppies, and after much deliberation about what to name them, we determined that Bingley and Darcy were the best names that went together and represented something we all enjoyed. After that, I watched it three times in 2008, once in 2009, twice in 2010, four times in 2011, twice in 2012, twice in 2013, four times in 2014, once in 2015, once in 2016, twice in 2017, once in 2018, three times in 2020, once in 2021, and twice in 2022. I don’t remember exactly when, but somehow between my siblings, my parents, and I, we ended up with three copies of this on DVD in addition to the taped one. I should also mention that I only counted it when I watched the whole thing from start to finish within a few days, so I’ve watched it like that 37 times, but I’ve definitely seen pieces of it way more than that. I keep waiting to get tired of watching it, but every time I put it on, it remains delightfully enjoyable.
I know that Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen is one of the most beloved stories in the English-speaking world, and probably beyond – although the number of people confused by my dogs’ names taught me that not everyone is particularly familiar with it – and that it has been adapted and retold dozens of times, and that fans of the story have very strong opinions about which is the “best” adaptation. The loudest debate is between this version and the 2005 film directed by Joe Wright and starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen. The first time I watched that version was in 2006, in the midst of my mania for the 1995 version, and I thought it was terrible. I knew it had to be shorter for the feature film format, but they cut out so many of my favorite parts! It wasn’t until I rewatched the 2005 version in 2016 that I understood that the people who prefer that version love this story for very different reasons from me. If you’re mostly invested in the Elizabeth/Darcy romance, that’s the version for you. It’s all about the tension and chemistry between those two characters, and everyone else is kind of stuck in as an afterthought. But even though the Bennet daughters’ need to get married is central to the plot, I had never considered the main appeal of this story to be its romance. To 2023 me and you the listener, who know that I’m aromantic, that isn’t very surprising, but at the time it kind of blew my mind to learn that so many fans of the story are there for that slow burn. Even in 2012 to 2013, when The Lizzie Bennet Diaries was coming out, I figured the reason people were so obsessed with Darcy was because not seeing him until episode 60 added to his mystique. At the end of that show, I was way more concerned about Lydia’s story than Lizzie’s, and while I enjoyed seeing Lizzie and Darcy finally get together, it was more of a “yay, things are happy now” relief than squeeing over the adorable romance. Anyway, while I used to be one of those obnoxiously pretentious fans who maintained that the 1995 adaptation was way better than the 2005 one, now I’m more of the opinion that they’re both good, just different, and just because I prefer one over the other doesn’t actually make it better. So if you’re listening to this and are a huge fan of the 2005 version, or any other adaptation, know that I’m not trying to tell you you’re wrong. Ultimately, Pride and Prejudice is a great story with many layers, and I think it’s awesome that there have been so many different versions that emphasize different aspects.
Despite the fact that this version is quite long (although not nearly as long as the Lizzie Bennet Diaries), I personally love the pacing. The events of the story take place over about a year, and these six 55-minute episodes take their time bringing us through that year with the characters. Watching it now, I don’t understand how I ever fell asleep with it on as a child, because I am thoroughly engaged the whole way through. Sometimes I intend to only watch an episode or two at a time, but I end up sitting through the whole thing because I cannot tear myself away. These characters are just so fascinating, and the cast brings them to life so convincingly. In general, I try to separate actors from characters, but I will always associate this cast with this show. Part of that is because of how many times I’ve watched this, and another part is because most of these actors haven’t been in very many American films – with the major exception, of course, of Colin Firth, whose Hollywood career skyrocketed after the success of this series – so I haven’t seen them in many other things. But the main reason is because they all embody their characters so perfectly in this series that it’s hard to see them as actors. Every cast member fully committed to their character in a way that somehow makes them feel simultaneously larger than life and grounded in reality. Alison Steadman’s Mrs. Bennet in particular is over the top and ridiculous but manages to just barely remain believable. While the five Bennet sisters on the surface can be summarized by archetypes, they’re much deeper than they first appear, and I love the ways that both the writing and the performances gradually bring that out. Crispin Bonham-Carter perfectly embodies the puppy-dog friendliness and gullibility of Bingley, and Colin Firth nails Darcy’s transformation after Elizabeth calls him out. Benjamin Whitrow makes Mr. Bennet so likable that it took me a while to understand that part of the family’s plight is his fault. That kind of complexity is one of the major things that makes this movie so rewatchable. There are so many layers to every storyline and every character that you can’t possibly uncover them all in just a few views. There’s also a lot going on in the background – like, Mary doesn’t get very many lines, but I love watching her light up whenever Mr. Collins is around. The show is edited in such a way that the audience can see what every relevant character is thinking at all times, so that even when it’s difficult to understand the fancy dialogue, we still get what’s happening based on the characters’ reactions.
This adaptation receives a lot of praise for its faithfulness to the novel, but while it does follow the book quite closely, I don’t think it gets enough credit for the changes and additions it made that were still in the spirit of the original story. There is some dialogue that was taken word for word from the book, but Jane Austen tended to summarize conversations rather than transcribing them, so quite a bit of new dialogue needed to be added, and I personally find it difficult to tell where Jane Austen ends and Andrew Davies takes over. Austen didn’t write scenes that only featured male characters, claiming that she had no way of knowing how men spoke or behaved when there were no women present, but this show opens with a scene between Bingley and Darcy and focuses a bit more on their friendship than the book does. The change in this version that gets the most attention is when Darcy unexpectedly happens upon Elizabeth after having taken a swim in a lake on his property at Pemberley. I always just saw this as a silly way to add to the awkwardness of the situation, with Darcy trying to remain dignified in soaking, casual clothes, and it surprised me to learn that a lot of people love that scene because Colin Firth apparently looks very sexy in his wet shirt. The change that I personally find most interesting is in the letter that Darcy writes explaining himself to Elizabeth after she turns down his first proposal. In the book, he starts with the allegations about breaking up Jane and Bingley and then moves on to the more serious stuff about how Wickham (played by Adrian Lukis, who told Elizabeth that Darcy ruined his life) had tried to seduce Darcy’s younger sister. In this version, the letter starts with the Wickham stuff and ends with the Bingley stuff because we’re initially watching Darcy and flashbacks of his memories, and then halfway through revealing the letter to the audience, we see Darcy give it to Elizabeth, and then we see her reactions to reading his thoughts about her sister and the rest of her family, along with flashbacks of her memories. Darcy is rather arrogant when he talks about separating Bingley from Jane, so I feel like it makes a little more sense for him to start with that when he’s upset by Elizabeth’s rejection and then move on to the darker Wickham drama, but I really like the way this version shows their reactions to the part of the letter that’s most painful to each of them. And before he writes the letter, we see Darcy dwelling on Elizabeth’s words, and he reacts to what she said about Wickham by saying aloud to himself, “At least in that I may defend myself,” implying that the Wickham story is what prompted him to write the letter in the first place, explaining why he starts with that this time. So it’s true to the original without being constrained by the original, and I think that’s what makes it work so well as an adaptation.
As I said before, many people think of Pride and Prejudice as primarily a romantic story, and like, they’re not wrong, but there’s so much more to it than that. There’s a lot of focus on familial relationships, especially between the two eldest daughters, Jane and Elizabeth, which I’ve always appreciated for its similarities to my relationship with my sister. It’s also worth noting that in this society, women in the Bennets’ station could not get a job, so they basically had two options: marry well, or depend on a male relative. Marriage was essentially a business arrangement, not necessarily a romantic one. In the first episode, Jane and Elizabeth have a conversation about their situation in which Elizabeth says that because Jane is the prettiest and sweetest of the sisters, she will need to be the one to marry very well, and Jane responds with, “But Lizzy, I would wish… I should so much like… to marry for love.” And then she makes this amazing face like she can hardly believe how unreasonable she’s being. Elizabeth assures her, “And so you shall, I’m sure. Only take care you fall in love with a man of good fortune.” But when Jane asks Elizabeth how she feels about marriage, she asserts, “I am determined that nothing but the very deepest love will induce me into matrimony. So, I shall end an old maid and teach your ten children to embroider cushions and play their instruments very ill!” And they laugh. But Elizabeth is completely serious, at least about the first part, as she demonstrates when she turns down two very lucrative marriage proposals that most sensible women in her position would have eagerly accepted. Both men – Mr. Collins and Mr. Darcy – think they are doing her a great favor in offering their hand and are shocked by her refusal. Mr. Collins is a bit of a doofus, but he is also going to inherit her father’s house, and it would therefore be the honorable thing for him to marry one of the Bennet daughters so they could at least continue to live there after Mr. Bennet’s death. But Elizabeth knew he would make her miserable and was unwilling to put up with him merely for security. One could say she slapped amatonormativity in the face, and we love to see it. But interestingly, when Mr. Collins does get married, it’s to the very aro-coded Charlotte Lucas (played by Lucy Scott). Her good friend Elizabeth is utterly shocked that anyone, let alone someone she cares about, would agree to marry Mr. Collins. But Charlotte literally tells Lizzy, “I’m not romantic, you know. I never was.” Aromantic queen. And when Elizabeth vents to Jane about this, Jane has the great line, “You do not make allowances for differences of situation and temper.” Jane is the ally we all need. Later, when Elizabeth visits the Collinses, Charlotte makes it clear that she kind of just does her own thing and barely sees her husband, and Elizabeth feels bad for her friend, but honestly, Charlotte’s life doesn’t sound so bad to me. She has security, and her husband mostly leaves her alone. Things didn’t get much better for an introverted aroace woman in that society. Although part of me does still wish that Mary had ended up with Collins, since she also seems like an introvert on the aroace spectrum, but she actually likes him.
Elizabeth is the opposite of aroace, but the way she refuses to listen when society tells her she’s supposed to marry for money feels kind of similar to modern aroace people refusing to listen when society tells us we’re supposed to fall in romantic, sexual love. One of the things I appreciate most about this story is how it demonstrates that everyone and every relationship is different. Jane and Bingley immediately fall for each other and are perfectly compatible, but because they place so much trust in the people around them, it takes a while for them to officially get together. And I don’t just mean the way Bingley’s sisters and Darcy pulled him away – Elizabeth kept reassuring Jane that it was obvious how she felt about Bingley because it was obvious to her, and neither of them realized that a stranger would just see Jane’s kindness to Bingley as treating him like she treats everyone else. Elizabeth and Darcy are just as well suited for each other as Jane and Bingley are, but they both have some major growing to do – they need to overcome their pride and prejudice, if you will – before they can be together. And then there’s Lydia and Wickham, whose relationship is based mainly on lust. Neither of them seems to have learned anything between the beginning and end of their story, and it’s hard to imagine them being happy together. I used to think of Lydia as a spoiled brat who got what she deserved, but now I feel really bad for her. She was a 15-year-old child who was preyed upon by a grown man, and the best-case scenario was for her to marry him. Her plight demonstrates just how awful the societal rules regarding sex were for women, although the story barely seems aware of it. Her elopement is used as a plot device for Darcy to redeem himself, and the focus is all on how her sisters’ chances of good marriages have been damaged. It’s kind of odd that so many social norms are condemned in this story, and yet Lydia is portrayed as deserving of life-long punishment for daring to break one rule. Jane Austen was progressive, but not that progressive. So that’s the one part of this that bothers me. If you too want justice for Lydia, I highly recommend The Lizzie Bennet Diaries on YouTube, which does an excellent job of humanizing and redeeming her.
Anyway, back to this version, I love that it includes another couple that many adaptations leave out – Mr. and Mrs. Hurst. Mrs. Hurst is Mr. Bingley’s sister Louisa, who, along with their sister Caroline, loves to make fun of and criticize the Bennets. Caroline is partly motivated in her criticism by jealousy, since she has her eye on Darcy and can tell that he’s interested in Elizabeth. But Louisa seems to be motivated by pure snobbery. Which is kind of hilarious because her husband is basically a loser. He doesn’t seem to have an estate or anything, since they’re always staying with her brother, and all he does is drink, hunt, play cards, and sleep. It’s just like, girl, you have no room to criticize anyone’s situation or decisions when you’re stuck with that guy. This just further helps demonstrate that nobody fits society’s ideal, so maybe we should all just live and let live. The characters who remain proud and prejudiced at the end of the story are mostly bitter and unhappy, while those who have learned to look at things from other people’s perspectives are the happiest. And I really like that message.
And aside from the fascinating social commentary, this series is a delightfully fun watch, full of great moments that I will never tire of revisiting. I love, or at least am intrigued by, all the characters, from the leads to the most obscure side characters. She’s barely in it, but one of my favorites is Mrs. Bennet’s sister, Mrs. Phillips, played by Lynn Farleigh. Between her interactions with Mr. Collins, who accidentally insults her and then frustrates her as a whist partner, and the way she consoles Mrs. Bennet after Lydia runs off with Wickham, her lines are some of my favorites to quote. And of course, there’s Lady Catherine de Bourgh, Mr. Collins’s benefactor and Mr. Darcy’s aunt, played by Barbara Leigh-Hunt, who is so impressed with herself that she can’t tell that she’s almost as ridiculous as Mrs. Bennet. I love Sir William Lucas’s “Capital, capital!” and Maria Lucas’s commitment to making haste. Even the characters I don’t like as people are interesting to watch. Wickham is the worst, but I’m almost impressed by his gall. Like, the fact that he can face the Bennets after seducing Lydia as if he’s done nothing wrong is astounding. That man truly has no shame.
While I enjoy pretty much every moment of this series, I have to say that my favorite episode is the fifth one. It really doesn’t seem like it should be, since that’s when the whole Wickham/Lydia stuff is going on and everybody is super stressed, but it has so many of my favorite moments. Like when Elizabeth is playing the pianoforte at Pemberley and a random servant feels the need to stand right in front of her, bow to no one in particular, and then walk offscreen. I don’t know who that bowing servant is or why he does that but I love him. And then there’s the part when Elizabeth returns home with her aunt and uncle, and her cousins are so excited to see their parents again that one of them tries to do a cartwheel and ends up just falling over. And in another wonderful deviation from the novel, Mr. Collins decides to visit the Bennets, ostensibly to console them, but really to gloat that their problems aren’t his problems because he didn’t marry one of them. In the book, he does this by writing a letter, but it’s way funnier to have him visit them, and get to see Mary be impressed with him again. But the best part of that scene is that when Kitty sees his carriage coming, she declares, “I’m not going to sit with him for anyone!” and runs off to hide in the yard. Later, when he’s talking to the other sisters, we can see Kitty peering through the window to see if he’s still there, and it makes me laugh every time.
This show is so good that I would still love watching and quoting it anyway, but I do think my enjoyment has been at least somewhat enhanced by having dogs named after two of the characters. The names really suited them, too – dog Darcy was standoffish toward strangers, but with the people he liked he could be very cuddly, whereas Bingley would pretty much follow anyone around to see what they were up to. Bingley absolutely loved to play fetch, while Darcy would just stare at him like, “What is wrong with you?” in the perfect dog version of how their namesakes felt about dancing. Sadly, Darcy got cancer and died in 2020. Bingley is still hanging in there, although at 16 years old he’s definitely declining, and his fetching days are long behind him. There are a lot of differences between me and Jane Bennet, as she is clearly not aroace, but since we share the same first name and are both the eldest sibling, I’ve always felt a kinship to her, and it makes me happy that presumably we each got to watch our own Mr. Bingley grow old. I think after he inevitably passes, watching this series will probably feel bittersweet for a while, although I don’t think that will make me love it any less. I anticipate continuing to watch it at least once a year on the 26th of November, in honor of the Netherfield Ball, while fondly reminiscing about fetching with Bingley and snuggling with Darcy.
I could go on and on about this movie for hours, but ultimately, what it all boils down to is I love the 1995 Pride and Prejudice because it is an excellent story told extraordinarily well, about characters who are exactly as ridiculous and flawed as real people. So if you’ve thought about watching this version but have been turned off by the length, I highly recommend giving it a chance anyway. Yes it’s almost six hours long, but it’s a thoroughly enjoyable way to spend almost six hours. I was suffering from depression when I first got into this series, and it was one of the few things that made me feel good about life. And if I had not already been in love with this version, I probably wouldn’t have watched The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, and therefore might never have gotten into Shipwrecked Comedy, and that would be very sad. So I have a lot to thank this miniseries for.
Thank you for listening to me discuss another of my most frequently rewatched movies. It’s a little hard for even me to believe that I’ve rewatched Pride and Prejudice more than any other movie besides one in the last 20 years, but I think it really is my second favorite movie, so it’s fitting that it ended up here. Now I only have one movie left, and it’s number one by a lot, with 51 views compared to P&P’s 37. So stay tuned for what is clearly my favorite film. And now, for the last time, as always, I will leave you with a quote from that next movie: “My, she was yare.”

I'm going to make a merch guide to each of the eras to help people collect but I figured i'd start with hyyh since it was one of my favorites ₊✩‧₊˚౨ৎ˚₊✩‧₊
The obvious (albums):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's a light blue and light pink for pt 1 and dark blue with dark pink for pt2 which im sure we all know by now but there was also a limited Taiwan edition!
Tumblr media
As of right now these are kind of hard to find; but without pc only cost ~$30. Outside of the photocard/postcard the only real difference of these is the inclusion of the lyrics in chinese plus more cds. These were released only for pt 1 in both the white/pink versions!
Tumblr media
The photocards are going to COST YOU though, with a general range of $150-200
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
There also was 2 Japan kayo nekka versions that had a inclusion of a dvd too. On the dvd was just the run mv plus a photo gallery. PLEASE do not buy the listings of people selling the cd alone with no photocard for around 100, if you look harder on ebay theres many for closer to 40 or 50!!
Tumblr media
these photocard prices are even worse than the last, normally being 200 to 400 from what ive seen. at least youll have a easier time finding listings for these (┬┬﹏┬┬)
DVDS:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first dvd for hyyh was in 2015 and was released on 160223, this one only covers the Seoul concerts (which were the first 3). The first 2 dvds show the last day of the in Seoul concert, and the last one has 5 performances in Japan, VCR making film, prologue, rehearsals, practice making films and concert making films. The 2nd dvd also includes a VCR interview and talk about hyyh. All in all this is 346 minutes long :) If your lucky you can get this for $100 no pc but I would count on it being 200-370. The pc normally is around 100 too 😭
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
2016 live on stage epilogue dvd - This included of course film of the concert but also the poster and bridge shoot, md shooting film, concert practice and concert making film. you can find links to watch it for free with english subs here!
This dvd will cost around 170-200 and most (thankfully) have pc included. The pc alone will probablyyyy cost you around 60 even though ive seen ones way lower (you have to just look hard).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Theres also a blue ray version for around 95-160 (originally sold for $53.78) This one I THINK has the same stuff on it but its only in 2 dvds. I really cant tell if the postcards were a pre order benefit or not plus if it came as a set or random. Theres barely any listings for these but they only go for like $30 each (its like a breath of fresh air typing a price that low)
Tumblr media
2016 BTS LIVE Kayo Nenka on stage epilogue Japan Edition Deluxe Edition DVD - this was released on January 18, 2017 so you should notttt be spending anywhere near as much (id guess 60-90?) This comes with 2 discs, the limited edition has a 132 page photobook and has bluray plus dvd but the regular just has the bluray no photobook. There is also a regular version with just dvd. These ones are the regular:
Tumblr media
The regular is really hard to find nowadays but I think the general price range is 50-80??
Concert merch:
Tumblr media
This hoodie only came in one size, Im not too sure the price of the zip up but the normal hoodie for the epilogue was $30.42 so we can assume it was about the same. nowadays expect to pay 200-600 for it LMAO
Tumblr media
The shirt came in medium and large, i cant find any pricing info or current listings for this but i would assume it would be in the hundreds. The problem is theres so many unofficial shirts with this pattern being sold so it drowns out all the official listings. you MIGHT have luck getting this on some old instagram or tumblr account though!
Tumblr media
one size beanie- current cost is around $200 but older accounts on twitter or tumblr sell for $45. yall im gonna be honest I cant find the post for the 2015 tour merch for the LIFE of me so im not going to know any original prices
Tumblr media
bandana 600x600- GOOD LUCK BUYING THIS THING only place i can find listings is carousell which were all really cheap (~$15) but then again they are old listings.
Tumblr media
I cannot find these damn socks ANYYYYWHERE on the face of the internet. your guess is as good as mine chat
Tumblr media Tumblr media
pickets- very few listings of these out here but they are only like $70! (crazy if you remember people sell love yourself ones for 50 and 60) BUT you can 100% find listings for way lower (around 20 or 30) they are just rare
Tumblr media
program book- these are only 40-60
Tumblr media
this is going to be more like $200 for a set of just one members, its way easier to find the 2016 ones
Tumblr media Tumblr media
photo set- there was multiple sets of these (not sure how many IM SORRY) ; one goes for about 100
I reached the max for pictures on here so go to pt 2!! i hope this guide helps you guys ⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝♡

220 - The Lost City of Z
Tumblr media
It wouldn’t be Thanksgiving without a little tradition, so naturally Vanity Fair’s Katey Rich makes her annual return to us this week to discuss James Gray’s The Lost City of Z. The film had a long pre-production history, including promises of Brad Pitt in the lead, that long positioned it as the film that might finally garner Gray some awards attention. Finally produced and with Charlie Hunnam replacing Pitt, the film made its world premiere at the 2016 New York Film Festival without distribution and received strong reviews. Though Amazon picked up the film, they held its release until the spring, effectively killing its awards chances.
This episode, we discuss our shared love for the film and talk about Gray’s Oscar-elusive approach to material and his chances this season with Armageddon Time. We also talk about Sienna Miller face blindness, Robert Pattinson’s move towards auteur directors post-Twilight, and Amazon’s auteur-heavy 2017 crop of films.
Topics also include renting VCRs, Darius Khondji’s luminous Lost City cinematography, and 2017 as the best Best Picture year post-expansion.

I’m going to post photos and what decent video I took from the Nashville concert in a bit but GOD seeing MAMAMOO live after waiting literal years for them to come to the US on tour after falling in love with them in 2016/2017? It was everything I could’ve asked for and more.
You can see in the videos I took where I just completely forgot about the camera and just started going THRU it. Getting to see the girls irl, fucking realizing I managed to get me and my mom semi floor seats, the intensity of the crowd being so loud we were over singing the big speakers, all the moobongs, the VCR clips, me crying during the Paint Me/Star, Wind, Flower, Sun, the girls being SO happy about how hyped we’re for them, PARTICIPATING IN MY FIRST BANNER EVENT 😭😭😭😭
I can’t even list everything I’m still on a concert high even the morning after. Everyone was so kind too I’m!!!!! Love is stored in MAMAMOO and MooMoos. Never letting go.

Concert Diaries: THE BOYZ - ZENERATION II
Artist: THE BOYZ
Tour: ZENERATION II World Tour
Date: July 21, 2024
Location: Fox Theatre, Atlanta, GA
Tier: SRA/Gen Admission
Time(s) Seen: Second time
Favorite Songs (Title Track): TATTOO, Levitating, Fantasize, DDD, Survive the Night, Back 2 U, REVEAL, The Stealer, Nectar
Notable Moments (in depth reflection under the cut):
Never been to the Fox Theatre before, it's beautiful in there and I finally experienced a concert with real seating aka cushions 😂
They also provided theatre concessions like popcorn, so I know some people were going to town
Every group I've seen in Atlanta has always said the same thing: "Atlanta is so HOT 🔥"
Jacob singing a snippet of Peaches - Justin Bieber
Kevin mixing up the dates of the previous concert in New York thinking it was "yesterday" instead of two days ago (dates of tour locations stagger every other day, so they were in Atlanta the day before the concert)
Eric and Q first time performing in Atlanta: Eric was on hiatus last tour in 2022, Q got sick while on tour and couldn't attend the Atlanta stop)
Haknyeon talking about Atlanta's sports culture: also asked if there were any sports fans in the audience def not me
Brought back pink hair predebut Eric, felt like I got teleported back to 2017 (which is crazy how I've been here since the beginning)
If I remember correctly: Atlanta is home to Sangyeon stans so they delivered whenever that man appeared on screen and talked, same energy last tour as well
The way I started losing my mind when they performed TATTOO (it's their first Japanese EP and I had no hope that I'd be able to see it in person one day since groups usually don't perform their Japanese discography outside of their fan concerts or in Japan)
The members taking time to acknowledge the second floor of the venue, and taking so many moments to scan and take in their image of the experience we're all sharing in that moment
The pure excitement and joy of being in stage and showing us how free they are when they're in the spotlight is addictive and yearned for: to keep their focus on their own path without engaging with any moment of disregard, undermining, or challenging their influence and presence in the industry
Sharing silly moments, such as them fooling around with the height of the mic stands during more fun and carefree songs
Witnessing the comfortability and confidence they now have from being in the industry all these years, while taking time to reflect on their journey as they were once young boys with a big dream ahead of them
The VCR was gorgeous: usually in between outfit changes, the videos shown usually compose of more behind-the-scenes footage (recording sessions, dance practices, self reflections, etc), but THE BOYZ really kept the concert consistent with their "Zeneration" concept (the theatre style venue made it feel like I was watching a movie)
My interpretation (since the Seoul concert VCR has more commentary and behind-the-scenes), there were lots of juxtaposition from a more industrial/sterile environment (all white set, cat walk, very interesting motion transitions (even though I used Adobe After Effects for animated illustration, VFX work on there is otherworldly), defying the natural laws through astrology and galaxy elements (traveling through space and seeing the warping of the universe was so dynamic and peaked my interest because I personally enjoy those themes), and teleporting us into a world filled with nature elements (open grass field, lakeside, flowers, trees, open sky).
THE BOYZ have been working for officially 7 years in December (which is the typical length of time a contract lasts), and I had the privilege of witnessing their growth and journey in finding their footing in the industry. Being a part of a "small company," the level of exposure and opportunities is drastically different in comparison to groups entering the industry from "big companies," whether from music show appearances, award ceremonies, variety show appearances, access to ambitious production professionals (music production, music video directors, content producers, etc). The threshold in attaining any level of commercial "success" is a financial and opportunistic division, which the industry currently operates on. Therefore, groups like THE BOYZ have to overexert themselves beyond what can be a walk in the park for other groups (which doesn't diminish the coexistence of all groups working hard while still acknowledging the innate advantages and disadvantages that vary from the level of influence a company has due to the saturated market), and from being so involved in their journey as a fan, THE BOYZ's ambition and passion in delivering the best performances while exploring and solidifying their artistic voice and color is one of their best traits that resonate to me as a multi stan.
With 7 years of experience, not only is their discography extensive and diverse, active solo/unit promotion (while bringing more attention to the group themselves) continues to keep THE BOYZ head above water for all these years. Appearing in shows like Road to Kingdom while also earning their ticket to join Kingdom: Legendary War, they only continue to make me proud to see them shining on stage and being recognized for their hard work and ambitions. Moments that resonated with me during those times were witnessing and sharing their vulnerable moments with us as the audience (which reminds me of Kevin mentioning after finishing their ballad songs that he kept forgetting the lyrics, but being met with empathy and a smile because we're all human and experiencing the same life full of pressure, anxiety, forgetfulness, etc): Sunwoo being so brave despite having a fear of being head below water and heights taking on many killing parts that challenged him and amplified the drama/storytelling of the performance, the members pushing the limitations of their bodies to showcase their creativity and drive to deliver to the audience something attention grabbing, Juyeon crying after finishing their Quasi una fantasia because he couldn't find his specific branch during the climax of the performance and felt that it could potentially risk their ranking (seeing the fancam of him scrambling on the side of the stage brought me heartache knowing how much pressure he puts on himself because of how deeply he cares about his performance), investing time to showcase a storyline throughout the show that built upon one another (from Eastern warriors, crowned kings, phantom thieves, blossoming sakura petals, and so much more). There is so much love and dedication to what they want to bring to the industry, while also understanding their strengths and capitalizing off of them: intentionality is the word that comes to mind.
From starting out with their school boy youth concepts from Boy as their debut song, silly resort employees in Thrill Ride, werewolf callbacks in REVEAL, defining what it being their individual versions of BE YOUR OWN KING means in their own right, thieves in The Stealer, competing against one another and resorting to violent methods to escape their doom in MAVERICK, exploring nostalgia as school boys again in Nectar, there are so many concepts and sides of THE BOYZ that has only solidified their position in my life as one of my favorite artists. The willingness to experiment and explore, the willingness to deliver new flavors of THE BOYZ while also calling back to past concepts as newer versions of who they once were at that point in their lives. Having so much awareness of the creative direction they're walking on is inspiring, it's admirable, it's cherished. Please give them their flowers, moments of acknowledging their efforts and impact they have on the world around them, and taking the time to return the love we receive from them tenfold. For some, it may seem like the end to a beginning, but with any end, there's always a beginning. I only hope and pray that they will continue down this flowering path and inspire everyone around them, while also taking moments for themselves to join in on the human experience and remove the fame and "idol" mask. That they are just like us, that they have their own worries and insecurities, their own qualms and moments of weakness, their own dreams and goals, their own paths to pave, their own acknowledgement of their emotions and down to earth contemplations. That we all aren't so different after all: that we all share the mutual exchange of love and energy for one another. We're all playing the same game of life: it's up to us to continue grounding ourselves and to return home to our safe spaces.
While driving home four hours away (ended up being three from me being ballsy and driving during midnight) from Atlanta shortly after the concert was over and everyone else attended hi-touch, I finally took the time to record a long awaited voice memo for myself: spent the entire drive reflecting and acknowledging areas of my life that deserve praise and have been on the back burner for a long time. Just from enjoying my time at the concert, the energy gave me so much strength, so much love and care, so much inspiration and desire to work harder, so much appreciation for living my life with intentionality, second by second, moment to moment. Moments like these mean the world to me, giving me evidence and more reasons to continue waking up every day whether to clear skies or thunder clouds. That there is more to this life than what meets the eyes. To some, it's never "this deep" or belittling people choosing to live in their authentic selves and love what they love even if it seems weird, lame, stupid, which to that I say: "don't yuck another man's yum" and "I hope that one day you will have the courage to reflect and meet yourself at such levels of depth where there's no reason to fear the judgment of others, society, the world. Where living in your authentic self will not only alter your relationship with your own pursuit of happiness, but wanting to share that same warm fuzzy feeling with the rest of the world. Nothing makes me more joyous than seeing someone else tap into themselves and light up like a chandelier, like a sparkler, like a candle, like a campfire, like a firework. Why wouldn't you want to witness such moments of pure passion and love?"

The Big Sick (2017)
I was unfamiliar with Kumail Nanjiani outside of his bits about growing up in Pakistan (the broken VCR cracks me up every time) and his appearance in the second Spiderverse movie. As for the actress playing his now wife Emily Gordon (played by Zoe Kazan) - I am still unfamiliar with her name/work outside of this movie.
The movie focuses on Kuamail and Emily's relationship - even though half of the couple is in a medical coma for most of the movie. My overall impression of this movie is that it's very humanizing. I felt like there were more real moments versus scripted drama. My favorite part was how Kumail and Emily had a real discussion about their relationship following coming out of her coma. They both approached the moment as adults and I could see that they both still had some hurt to work through. Major props for the parents' portrayal of their views as well. Emily's father, Terry (Ray Romano) came across as repentant yet concerned more for his daughter than his marriage, and Kumai's mother, Sharmeen Nanjiani (Zenobia Shroff) gave me the feeling that she was doing her best to provide what was expected for her family. I liked the awkward dinner dates joke :)
Overall - I liked this movie, it was a nice look at a realistic situation and I would most likely watch it again.

Eryk Nicolay | Free TV Network: Digital Broadcasting Venture led by Jonathan Katz
As revenues in the digital broadcasting market exceed $1 billion and FAST channel revenues surpass $5 billion, a new programming entity called Free TV Network will provide content through both over-the-air broadcast and streaming platforms. This venture is led by Jonathan Katz, a pioneer in the digital broadcast space known for creating multicast networks in the past. According to TheHollywoodReporter.com, Free TV Networks is set to launch on January 1st, with two digital channels - The365 and Outlaw. The365 will cater to African-American viewers and feature a lineup of movies and series. On the other hand, Outlaw will target male viewers with classic Western films. These channels will be available in about 80 percent of the United States, with streaming versions planned for later in the year. Additionally, two more channels, VCR Action and VCR Haha, featuring movies from the 1980s and '90s, are also in the pipeline. In addition to Jonathan Katz, Free TV Networks boasts a team of industry experts and notable figures on its board, including human rights activist Martin Luther King III and businessman Alan Haymon. Warner Bros. Discovery and Lionsgate will provide content for the channels, showcasing their hit films and television shows to a broader audience. Gray Television, one of the largest U.S. station groups, will support Free TV Networks by providing distribution in 80% of the country.
Deadline.com writes that Jonathan Katz, the founder of Free TV Networks, previously made a name for himself by creating multicast networks using available TV spectrum during the industry's transition to high-definition signals. These networks include BounceTV, Escape, and Grit, and were later acquired by E.W. Scripps for $292 million in 2017. Now, Katz is back with Free TV Networks, emphasizing the importance of offering free over-the-air and FAST channels to value-conscious consumers.
