The fact that there are no Vashet/Penthe fics on ao3 is criminal? Like those women absolutely have wild no-strings-attached sex on regular basis and their pillow talk consists of laughing at Kvothe's ridiculous barbarian beliefs and shenanigans

"A story is like a nut,” Vashet said. “A fool will swallow it whole and choke. A fool will throw it away, thinking it of little worth.” She smiled. “But a wise woman finds a way to crack the shell and eat the meat inside.”

Moving slowly, I reached into the deep leeward shadow of a nearby tree and brought out my shaed. I draped it carefully over a low-hanging branch so it hung like a dark curtain between us. Then I sat on the other bench, bent, and worked the clasps on my lute case. As each of them snapped open, the lute within made a familiar harmonic thrum, as if eager to be free. I brought it out and gently began to play. I had tucked a piece of cloth inside the bowl of the lute to soften the sound, not wanting it to carry over the rocky hills. And I had woven some of the red thread between the strings. Partly to keep them from ringing too brightly, and partly out of a desperate hope that it might bring me luck. I began with “In the Village Smithy.” I did not sing, worried Vashet would be offended if I went that far. But even without the words, it is a song that sounds like weeping. It is music that speaks of empty rooms and a chill bed and the loss of love. Without pausing, I moved on to “Violet Bide,” then “Home Westward Wind.” The last had been a favorite of my mother’s, and as I played it I thought of her and began to cry. Then I played the song that hides in the center of me.That wordless music that moves through the secret places in my heart. I played it carefully, strumming it slow and low into the dark stillness of the night. I would like to say it is a happy song, that it is sweet and bright, but it is not. And, eventually, I stopped. The tips of my fingers burned and ached. It had been a month since I had played for any length of time, and they had lost their calluses. Looking up, I saw Vashet had pulled my shaed aside and was watching me. The moon hung behind her, and I could not see the expression on her face. “This is why I do not have knives instead of hands, Vashet,” I said quietly. “This is what I am.”

actually i think the bit just before that is worth adding too
“This is the nature of love.” Vashet said. “To attempt to describe it will drive a woman mad. That is what keeps poets scribbling endlessly away. If one could pin it to the paper all complete, the others would lay down their pens. But it cannot be done.”
“But only a fool claims there is no such thing as love. When you see two young ones staring at each other with dewy eyes, there it is. So thick you can spread it on your bread and eat it. When you see a mother with her child, you see love. When you feel it roil in your belly, you know what it is. Even if you cannot give voice to it in words.”

Iron Worth Striking - Vashet
Bringing this back and finishing it off has been immensely educational. I'm still getting used to "painting" and this style but I'm loving the process so far. I've also started keeping track of the process and putting it together at the end which tickles me tbh 😂 What do you guys think? I've said it before and I'll say it again, Patrick Rothfuss is a literary master. His work is beautiful and I would highly encourage you to pick it up if you haven't already and undoubtedly devour it 😄 Vashet - the character this was inspired by - is so empowering, and she's just one of many.

Youtube channel: Strictly Fantasy
Video title: The Kingkiller Chronicle | The Adem - lore and theories
Video length: ten minutes
Video published on YouTube on: 5th January 2020
Book series discussed: The Kingkiller Chronicles, by Patrick Rothfuss
Genre: fantasy, adventure, coming of age, tragedy
Book mainly discussed: The Wise Man's Fear
Warnings: supernatural themes, character deaths, fictional violence, grief mentioned.
Language of video: English.
Here, Strictly Fantasy talks enthusiastically and uses great common sense and empathy in his analysis of the Adem culture in The Wise Man's Fear, book two of The Kingkiller Chronicles.
Strictly Fantasy comes up with the daring and exciting theory that the Adem and the Edema Ruh may be from the same cultural group and country, but parted ways due to their different beliefs on the value of music. The Adem see performing music in public as a shameful and over emotional display of emotion, however the Edema Ruh see music as a necessary way of life, and a wonderful way of expressing love and telling stories.

Continued thoughts on The Wiseman’s Fear. The rest of the Adem Arc.
First and foremost...Vashet having sex with Kvothe was ew. Yes yes Adem have different standards and what not when it comes to sex but still...Kvothe is freakin 15 and Vashet is a grown ass woman of 25! And his teacher besides. So again, Ew. I will say one good thing about it...it didn’t happen as horribly as I feared it would. I had been forewarned about it...and so when Vashet’s first words to Kvothe are ‘you’re mine’ I was dreading she’d have Kvothe sleep with her as some sort of payment for her Tutelage. Like that Greek Philosopher practice I forget the name of (Pedantry?). So the fact that the arc came about to deal with Kvothe’s boner, while still ew, wasn’t as bad as I feared it would be. I’ll give it this, while it’s still ew because Kvothe is fucking (no pun intended) 15, I’m glad none of his encounters (baring the first with Felurian because magic allure?) have been non consensual. Still...Ewwwwwwww. Seriously Vashet just leave Kvothe to get rid of it on his own(And of course these encounters keep happening!) And of course he also ends up sleeping with Penthe (who is...20 I think? Or was she only a year or two older than Kvothe?). Of course. The stuff with Penthe was actually quite interesting. Her reaching out to Kvothe, working on understanding facial Expressions. Good stuff. And what? Everyone wants to sleep with Kvothe? Seriously?? Vashet slapping Kvothe was amazing. Kvothe later playing Music for Vashet was also a very nice scene. I am not a fan of the sex scenes due to those involved...but I will say there is some very pretty writing. I’ll give it that. The trials were cool. Kvothe’s new sword is cool. Yay Tempi is back! I hope one day in her quest to learn every Ketan ever that Celean one day attends the University. That would be cool. Deep Names huh? Interesting... Overall I enjoyed this little arc with the Adem...barring certain exceptions of course. Favorites are probably Tempi, Penthe, and Celean. Excellent world building with the Ademic culture. I will say by this point I was starting to feel the Adem was overstaying they’re welcome (there’s so much freakin left!)...and now Kvothe is leaving. That would seem to be fairly good pacing. Also, we finally learn a teensy bit more about the Chandrian! FINALLY! Make of this what you will. Al, the Chronographing Cottager and Prince of Naming
