💞what’s the most important part of a story for you? the plot, the characters, the worldbuilding, the technical stuff (grammar etc), the figurative language

It’s a combination of the plot and the characters, but mostly the characters, because the characters are the driving force of the plot. If I’m not invested in the characters, there’s no reason for me to write the story.

🕯️was there a fic that was really hard on you to write, or took you to a place you didn’t think it would take you?

Most of my Trigun roleswap AU fic Nemo (My Name Forevermore) was just an absolute slog to write, because surprise surprise, writing about sexual abuse – even in as tasteful a manner as I could possibly manage – is not fun in the slightest. But I persevered, because Legato deserves better than his canon backstory, dammit, and I was going to make sure he got it in at least one timeline.😤

Did you mean: almost all of them? I MEAN, um, hm, good question. 🤔 Ah, I got it. Chapter 21 of the finale of my multifandom Kpop fantasy AU series. It just. God, it did not want to be written. I outlined and rewrote it at least 3 times. It was one of the climactic chapters that entailed a character making an extremely difficult decision, but I had written myself into a corner by establishing through previous characterization that there was almost no way the character in question would MAKE the decision I needed him to in order for the plot to actually progress. oTZ I think the chapter nearly drove me to actual tears of frustration a couple times, which has never happened on any other fic I’ve worked on.

Currently reading: Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, Cinder by Marissa Meyer, The Maze Runner by James Dashner (the movie was better, COME AT ME FANDOM)

It had… been a very long while since he’d used his admin abilities to their full potential like that. But such a clear and present threat to his server warranted it in a way that nothing else did.

So, patterns... I tend to like starting fics with dialogue that puts you right into the middle of a Situation. Draws the reader in quickly. Barring dialogue, I like dropping the reader into a scene and letting them figure out what's going on, because again, it builds engagement.
