You have a point about Driftmark’s writing, because to this day I’m baffled at people not finding Alicent’s anger valid, I can’t blame that on the writing. What I can blame the writing and the framing for besides the “Aemond stole Vhagar” thing is the “But now they see you as you are” *mic drop* moment, and the scene where Rhaenyra gets her stitches, meanwhile Aemond was literally blinded and that’s barely given any attention and ends with “but I gained a dragon so it’s fair” when it would’ve been fair only if it was Vhagar who took out his eye. Like again, I understand that Aemond was de-escalating the situation, but I do think it was purposefully framed as if that was the truth of it (especially seeing as the stealing comments never get corrected)

you see, when i first saw the scene, i interpreted alicent's speech to rhaenyra as being pretty explicit - "you do whatever the hell you want all the time (i.e. even have children out of wedlock with no consequences), you are so privileged that nothing is off limits for you and you even feel entitled to maiming my son like it's your birthright, you care about no one other than yourself while the rest of us have to play by the rulebook". i would say it's a pretty accurate dressing down of rhaenyra, to which she had a projecting reply - "now they see you as you truly are" - supposedly violent and cruel for demanding luke's eye in return, when a couple of minutes ago, rhaenyra was asking for her little brother to be tortured. not to mention that rhaenyra was actually the socially & legally transgressive one with skeletons in her closet

and i have to say that even emma d'arcy sided with alicent in this scene in interviews and didn't seem to think rhaenyra had the right of it. i think that if team discourse hadn't degenerated so much, people would have been able to VAR replay the scene and accept that rhaenyra should have been carded. but the stan-ification of hotd has left many with worms for brains.

that being said, i think the main issue is NOT clarifying that dragons cannot be stolen - a mistake in an otherwise solid episode. the dialogue should have made clear that aemond was within his rights to shoot his shot at claiming vhagar AND that it was the right decision bc vhagar accepted him (if VHAGAR didn't have a problem with it, why should anyone else? that's how dragons work, they are not pets). it would have been a welcome addition because the public are not 100% familiar with asoiaf dragon lore, so it's basically a piece of exposition that's missing. so if another character is shown on screen claiming it's theft AND they're not ever corrected or challenged in any way, then our brains automatically assume that's the correct assessment bc that's how the medium of storytelling in film works. so if the viewers got that extra information - that aemond was jumped by 4 other kids and maimed basically for shit talking - then they would have been more primed to see through rhaenyra's bullshit.

as for the scene with rhaenyra receiving stitches, perhaps that could have been balanced with one of aemond being comforted by someone, congratulated for gaining a dragon and reassured that what happened to him was not justified. i hesitate to add more, bc i do feel like there's a point where you can make things too explicit and you should trust your audience to piece 2 and 2 together without spoonfeeding them everything. rhaenyra should be allowed to be hypocritical on screen without big red signs pointing at her. the problem is more of an accumulation, not necessarily in this episode, but overall throughout the season. too many of her bullshit statements go unchallenged. once in a while, someone should pop up to contradict her or at least have passers-by give her the side-eye or something. (maybe in season 2? hopefully)

for example, a cool retort after rhaenyra said she was wandering bc she couldn't sleep would have been for someone to say that she and daemon arrived at the same time because they must have both been mourning laena together. thus, you bring back to the forefront of the audience's mind that team black can't be arguing that aemond disrespected laena's memory when daemyra are out there fucking on her grave. is it absolutely necessary? no, i think viewers should have arrived to that conclusion on their own, but apparently a large chunk of them are incapable. at the end of the day, you can't solve everyone's media comprehension problems, you can just try to make good art and hope for the best. however, i would include such a comment at least in later episodes, bc it's too good of an objection to let go

Not a good screenshot, but Sam talking about how much reading reactions on social media affected him made me genuinely sad (even though I assume he knows now that the show has incredibly passionate fans and is critically acclaimed and his performance is considered brilliant), and something about his face here...he seems like an unusually vulnerable person, for a famous person, and in a way so does Jacob, or they just hide their vulnerability less than a lot of (male, especially) celebrities do? idk

It's definitely pretty brutal in the sense that fan discourse obviously weighed on him during s1, but I don't know if I think he's necessarily unusually vulnerable? I think that particular statement was perhaps more honest than what we're used to from actors, and I think a lot of his interviews have indicated that he's pretty emotionally intelligent + emotionally in-tune with himself and those around him, which makes sense in terms of identifying the impact said discourse was having on his mental health, and - - yeah, okay, that is a bit of a rarity in men, haha.

I do think he and Jacob both seem to have a refreshing sensitivity as artists, and it's thrilling to see how they weave that into their work, but the flip side of that of course is the exposure to this level of scrutiny too. I feel for them, but I'm also a champion of the fourth wall, so the more they want to build it, honestly, the happier I am, haha.

What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher -- A review

Trigger Warnings: Death, murder, gore, mentions of war, mentions of suicide, anxiety, mentions of amputation, misogyny, misgendering, animal dissection, fire. 

My Rating 

9/10 I really liked this book; I have been trying to get back into horror books, and I have to say, this is a really good horror book. I loved how Kingfisher was able to make the grotesque gore sound so beautiful. However, there were a lot of sidenotes which did make things slightly confusing. It was all very interesting, but it did take away from the story every once in a while.

Overview

Alex Easton is a Lieutenant from Gallicia when they get a letter from their childhood friend, Madeline, that she is dying. When they get there they are greeted by hares that don't move correctly, a glowing pond, and a falling-apart manor. There are fungi everywhere, and a strange woman, Ms Potter, a very intelligent mycologist is enamoured by all of it. Madeline sleepwalks and talks in a strange voice and Roddrick is so anxious he jumps at the opening of a door, and the American doctor, Derrick, who is just as clueless as the rest of them. 

My Thoughts 

What Moves the Dead is based on The Fallen House of Usher by Edgar Allen Poe, for the most part, it is a reimagining of Poe’s story. Kingfisher expands on Madiline's illness and she really gives us a lot more detail into the story itself. I loved how this book has undertones of feminism, Ms. Potter talks about the mycology institute and how they won't let her in because of her sex, and how she is going to make such a big discovery that they won't be able to disregard her. Alex Easton agrees with her and supports her fight to be recognized. 

What I loved most about this book, was the use and understanding of pronouns and gender. Easton and the Ushers are all from Gallicia, where they do not use the traditional, he/him, she/her, and they/them pronouns. In Gallicia they use, ta, tha, tan, than for he, she, his, and hers. These are used for adults, and there are more that are used for children being va, van and for priests and nuns they use var. If you were to use va on an adult they would take great offence, and ta on a child and people would think you are a pedophile. There is also a set of pronouns for God and rocks. Lastly, there is a new set of pronouns for soldiers, which has no link to the gender binary, ka and kan, it is extremely rude to use ta on them and it might get you punched. This also means, that due to the new pronouns, gender is no longer applicable. Thus, when a woman became a soldier they could not turn her away, because the laws said that she was now ka, therefore, she was allowed in the military. This brought about “Sworn in Soldiers”, which is what Alex Easton is. Ka is not a woman nor a man, Ka is Ka or in English They. 

This book takes place in 1890, so this is much before the acceptance of queer people. For example, if we look into the UK around this time, in 1885 there was a law against queer people and thus against trans poeple. Also, in 1889, a woman named Mary Mudge died in a workhouse (basiclly a homeless shelter today, but they have to work and many people died. It was a horrible place to be) Mudge passed as a woman her whole life, until her bith sex was revealed during her  postmortem examination. Although trans people and the nonbinary have existed for the entirety of the existence of human kind, they were not widely accepted. It is so interesting to see Easton live as a nonbinary person in an alternet reality, and to see kan be accepted and to see how other interact with kan. 

The eding of the book was crazy. It all of a sudden changed, the pace completely changed and it really became a horror book. They do a dissection of a hare and… that was so creepy. I never expected it to change so drastically. I knew there was something inhuman about Madiline, but what it was so something so unlike what I could have thought it would be.  

Conclusion

This book was so good, I finished it in 3 hours and the entire time I was enraptured by the story. I was on the edge of my seat. Ms. Potter was such an amazing character, I loved every time she was present. The entirety of this book I felt as though I was there. Kingfisher is such a good writer, she really knows how to balance the creepy with the beautiful imagery of the mushrooms and the decaying bodies of the hares. If you are new to horror, this is such a good book to start with, and if you are an avid horror reader, this really has some of the most beautiful imagery. Even the cover is gorgeous. I definitely recommend this, although, not to the squeamish or faint of heart.

Hi! So firstly, it's not even true that SJM planned Elucien from the start. In an interview, she stated that initially, she planned Nesta to be with Lucien, but realised that the pairing wouldn't work.

I think that SJM might have considered Elain and Lucien as a possibility--and maybe of the antis like to say that 'SJM changed her mind about Elriel!'--but I think that she changed her mind about Elucien.

At some point, she might have thought that ELucien might work out, but I think that she changed her mind, and really decided to develop a different storyline--that of choice, of bond/duty vs love, of why a bond might not work, and of what truly matters, which is the buildup of love and affection and relationship.

Setting up Lucien and Elain and having them be together in the end due to a bond isn't really saying anything about the nature of relationships or the nature of choice. SJM showed a few bad relationships, that even though people are mated, it doesn't mean that there isn't a need for something more, for something genuine. THat's why in all her mated pairs, relationships always develop outside of the bond--Feysand, Rowaelin, Quinlar, etc. Even with someone like Elorcan, and it's only a supposed bond, but they still built their relationship first, and then, if there is a bond, then that's good, but it really wouldn't matter all that much. The foundation is there.

Elucien have no foundation. They have a bond. And as we can see, it didn't make a difference for the two of them. Free will is still a thing and in Feyre's words, love would trump a mate bond.

I think it's important not to forget Azriel in all of this. Azriel feels great affection, desire and maybe even the beginnings of love towards Elain. Regardless of her bond. It's also important to acknowledge his choice and that he can't fight what he feels regardless of her 'taken' status. The mate bond doesn't just impact the couple, but those around them as well. I think in this case, we have Azriel who's been suffering for the past year, denying himself and not acting on his affection towards Elain. And I think that's that where it's going to get interesting--that's where the triangle is. Love/duty, expectation, politics, external forces, feelings. It will be very interesting but I have a feeling that SJM is firmly #teamelriel and not #teamelucien

16. Basic Verbs 2

Welcome back! Today we have 10 (well, 12) more basic verbs for you, as well as a how-to on the past tense

å lese (v2) - to read

å skrive (v) - to write

å si (v) - to say

å snakke (v1) - to speak

å sove (v) - to sleep

å se (v) - to see

å spille (v2) - to play

å jobbe (v1), å arbeide (v2) - to work

å kjøpe (v2), å handle (v1) - to buy*

å selge (v) - to sell

*Å kjøpe is the most general way to say 'to buy'. Å handle is mostly used to talk about grocery shopping (å handle mat = to buy groceries)

Grammar: 4 Verb Groups

There's a fair bit of grammar here, so take your time with it. You don't have to memorise it all today; just be aware of it so that when you're immersing/studying otherwise, you can spot these different forms and make mental notes.

You may have noticed I added some things in brackets to our vocabulary list this time. What's v1/v2, you ask? Well, it indicated the verb group.

There are 4 groups of weak verbs in Norwegian (there are exceptions and sometimes they belong to multiple groups):

Group 1: verbs with more than one consonant before the final e (å snakke, å elske)

Group 2: verbs with 1 consonant before the final e (å like, å kjøpe), 2 Ls (å spille) or nk/ng (å tenke)

Group 3: verbs that end -ve, -ge or -eie (å leve, å lage*, å leie)

Group 4: verbs that end in a stressed vowel (å bo)

*Å lage is also, for whatever reason, a group 1 verb. I told you there are exceptions. Don't panic; I promise you pick it up through immersion and you'll get to a point where you'll know a verb's group based on vibes alone.

Why are verb groups important? Because they tell you how to form the past tense.

Group 1 verbs: you have two options! Either add -t (more common, more conservative) or change the final -e to an -a (more radical)

å snakke -> snakket/snakka

å jobbe -> jobbet/jobba

å elske -> elsket/elska (love)

Group 2 verbs: the final -e becomes -te:

å like -> likte

å kjøpe -> kjøpte

å lese -> leste

å spille -> spilte (note: the double L becomes a single L)

å tenke -> tenkte (think)

Group 3 verbs: the final -e becomes -de:

å leve -> levde (live)

å eie -> eide (own)

å leie -> leide (rented)

Group 4 verbs: add -dde

å bo -> bodde

å tro -> trodde (believe)

å snu -> snudde (turn round/back)

There are also strong verbs. These are irregular and you just have to learn them. Here are some from this series so far:

Like I say, don't worry about memorising this. Reference this post when you want to write things. Whenever you're reading things or listening to something, see if you can spot the different verb endings even if you don't know the verb or understand much of what's being said.

Holy shit, I love that movie actually. Troll Will Smith is fucking amazing in everything he does and I'll never hear otherwise.

As for your actual problem though, that sucks ass. You should try to talk this out with your matesprit, explain to her that everything comes from your genuine feelings for her and that you just like using moves from your own favorite things which you consider to be incredibly romantic on her. That's a very flattering thing to do! However maybe use your own words for it, just to really prove that it's from your pusher and no one else's.

Besides, things work out for the main character in the end of that movie. He gets to be with his flushcrush, and even the bronzeblood and the seadweller get together! (Spoilers if you haven't watched it I fucking guess, but like, that movie is so old that really it's on you if you haven't seen it).

Things will likely work out if you just explain your reasoning... perhaps to her kismesis as well, since he seems to be a big part of it. You should probably stop giving her advice for her other quadrants, though, because clearly other trolls aren't very appreciative of it.

However, it was somewhat unusual that he ended up in a witcher’s service. Exciting, to be sure, but Ambre, his second degree cousin, had given him the earful, inculcating him not to stare. "He's a good master, this witcher," she had said. "There are truly worse."

That was an astonishing opinion even in the oh-so-tolerant Toussaint, but Delron soon found it was true. 

Geralt of Riva – "Just Geralt," as he always insisted, but that was too reprehensible even for the simplest of servants – may have been a witcher, but not one like in the stories, and certainly not one like in the rumors. 

Sure, those eyes took... getting used to. The scar on his face, well, you got the hang to that quite easily. Even Delron had seen worse (peasants who had made an inglorious acquaintance with the wrong end of the scythe due to carelessness). At the end of the day, the man didn’t have a second head, nor did smoke come out of his ears, nor did he speak with a voice like from the depths of hell. Delron was already a serene fourteen year old; he scolded himself for ever believing such things. 

The witcher didn't talk much, but he worked hard, and that actually meant something to the people here. Corvo Bianco was resplendent: fresh paint, additions, an herb garden... even a horse stable. This was Delron's first task when he entered the witcher’s service, and although it was a modest stable, inhabited by a single horse only a few months a year, it was an almost pleasant job. Everything was great, only the wine was still lacking in Corvo Bianco. But considering that, until the witcher’s arrival, corpses had been kept in the cellar of the estate, everything was a vast improvement – one could overlook a vineyard without a harvest. 

And then... things actually became storybook. 

Delron may have been in the witcher’s service for a year, when one sunny day he was mucking out the stable, pausing every now and then to stroke the master's horse. It was a very good-natured horse that seemed to enjoy caresses very much, and this prolonged the time for Delron until he was to assist his cousin with the much more boring weeding. 

Delron was working leisurely when suddenly he noticed some kind of light out of the corner of his eye. It made him look up. The stable was in the lower yard; stairs led up to the main house. Delron almost dropped the shovel when, at the bottom of those stairs, just a few steps away from him, he perceived a huge blue light in the form of some kind of gate. Magic, clearly. 

For a moment he wondered if he should throw the shovel away and flee, or if it would be a suitable weapon to defend the manor. The witcher was truly a good master, Ambre had been right. Delron did find it questionable that a stable boy of all people would be suitable to defend his master from magic, but his grip on the tool strengthened. In Toussaint, people believed in miracles, and also that the simplest peasant could become a hero. 

Two people stepped out of the magic gate. First, a woman with flaming hair (a witch, for sure), and then... Delron hit the shovel handle against his teeth in surprise (he suffered a swollen lip for three days afterwards, and his cousin teased him that he had kissed a cow). Behind the woman, a tall man stepped out of the mysterious light, a man whose portrait even Delron had seen before, for it had hung for some time next to that of the gracious sovereign Anna-Henrietta in the offices. 

There was no doubt about it: it was Emperor Emhyr var Emreis himself, who was now standing in Corvo Bianco's courtyard, looking skeptically up the stairs. The light flickered and died, and the emperor straightened his shoulders and climbed the steps with determination. 

Was this a dream? Hardly. Delron wasn't suffering from a fever, either. He wondered if his master had any trouble with the law. But, what was more likely – after all, he was a witcher – perhaps there was some great, secret task for him. A fierce monster maybe, something that threatened the capital? Oh, the possibilities were endless – and Delron couldn't figure out the secret, because the emperor and his escort disappeared into the house, and then Ambre came and pulled his ears and scolded him for not helping with the weeding. 

"But the emperor came," Delron stammered, which earned him another slap in the face – this story was really too fantastic. 

Except it wasn't a story. 

During the following summer, Geralt spent time at his estate again, which was managed by Master Faulty for the rest of the year. It was already clear that there would be no wine this year either, but the witcher’s cellars were nevertheless well filled. That summer, he received several visitors, which Delron found quite understandable, for word of how the witcher had saved Beauclair must have spread far and wide. Surely, Delron thought, all these people came to seek his master's advice. One could not be quite sure – the elderly gentleman with the receding hairline, for instance, who smelled of an entire herb garden, was perhaps a merchant, and the giant with the furrowed face was probably a witcher as well.

And then it happened again: one evening, the air flickered, it smelled like just before a thunderstorm, and a gate of pure light appeared. Delron, actually already on his way home, quickly squeezed into one of the house entrances below the main house and watched as once again the pretty redhead and the emperor appeared just below the stairs.

"Why do I have to walk up the stairs in this heat? It must be possible to do this more precisely," the emperor's voice rang out. 

"You may have forgotten that I put a protective spell on the house," was the rather flippant reply. Afterwards, the woman added that she would reappear tomorrow shortly before noon, then stepped back into the light, and it disappeared with her.

The emperor stared at the place where the witch had just been, muttered something, and then went up the stairs. He had hardly taken two steps when something amazing happened. The door of the house opened, and with a broad smile on his face (that, according to Delron's cousin, could be called very attractive, despite the scar) the witcher opened his arms wide and asked, "What kept you?"

Delron held his breath. Rumor had it that the duchess had one of her maids thrown into the dungeon for three days after making a remark about the mistress's dress. Of course, one could never be sure what was truth and what was fiction when it came to such gossip, especially from women, and yet, in Toussaint, people were convinced that moderate severity was the right of rulers and the proper way to maintain tradition and decency. How would the Emperor of Nilfgaard react to the fact that a witcher addressed him in such a familiar manner? Delron feared for his master (and a little for his simple life, too, for Ambre claimed that the servants of the former owner would have had to lift the coals from the fire one by one if they were lazy like him, or something like that). 

"State business," the emperor replied tersely, "and a court sorceress who wanted to go over every detail of it until the last second."

The witcher started to reply, and it almost seemed as if he intended to extend a hand – was he going to help the emperor up the stairs? – when his yellow eyes suddenly fixed on Delron. Delron's heart was in his mouth. Did the master really see him? In any case, the witcher lowered his arms, took a step back, held the door open for the ruler and spoke a few words so softly that Delron could no longer understand anything. The two disappeared into the house. No matter how hard Delron tried to sneak around the courtyard the next day, he never saw the witch (a sorceress, he corrected himself) or the emperor again.

If the witcher had indeed noticed him, he did not let on. For the rest of the summer, everything was the same as the year before: the master answered calls for help from winegrowers whose vineyards seemed to be infested with strange monsters, had the house renovated, and gained a reputation as a man who might be a bit odd, but... kind-hearted. This was a quality one would hardly ever expect from a witcher, but it was true: he treated everyone on the estate with kind respect, and so they treated him. Moreover, he was modest, because the fact that he had won the tournament, and was actually a knight (although knighted in northern lands, which did not have the same value in Toussaint), spread late in Corvo Bianco. 

The witcher's modesty, however, had quite different dimensions, as became evident the following summer. 

That year it was Delron's job to instruct a pimply-faced milksop named Fabien, who was indeed long as a bean to match his name, in menial tasks. He himself was now less out and about in the estate's courtyard, and even though he had told no one what he had observed in previous years, he was curious to see if something similar would happen again. 

But this summer, the witcher stayed away from the winery. The work did not diminish, and so it was not noticed for a while, but when the rape had passed its flowering and the master had not yet appeared, the rumors rumbled on Corvo Bianco. One of the craziest of these was that the witcher was getting married. 

Delron's cousin found the idea absurd. She chattered about how there had never been any ladies on the estate, except for the visit of a white-haired young woman whom the man had supposedly introduced as his daughter ("Sorcerers are sterile, that's why they steal children," Delron had said, getting slapped in the face for supposedly being too young for such talk and because the master really didn't steal children, which was true). Delron did not mention the sorceress, but in principle that might be true: it was strange that there was no woman in the house. But Geralt was a witcher, and what did one know if they ever married? It wasn't that the women on the farm didn't stare at him, but he treated them all the same and didn't care if they ogled at him. 

So, whom should the witcher marry? The answer came just before midsummer, and it was a shock. 

Every now and then things had to be procured that were not available in the surrounding villages or from passing merchants, so someone was sent to Beauclair. This was a big task, even if the person was only given a note and a purse, with the strict requirement to go only to this or that store. This year the choice fell on Delron, who could read and write reasonably well, but above all could calculate quite well and was reliable enough not to get ripped off, as his cousin put it. 

The city was a madhouse for someone who rarely visited it: far too big, too noisy, and too garish, and it was no wonder Delron got lost despite Master Faulty's detailed description. He knew that the store he had to go to was not in one of the large squares, and yet he was intrigued when he ended up there and saw the hustle and bustle. Then, however, his eyes fell on the bulletin board at the edge of the street, and he squinted his eyes, shook his head, and for a moment thought he was dreaming. The heat of summer was much more unbearable in the city, and perhaps he had sunstroke?

Almost as if delirious, he plodded to the bulletin board, ignoring the numerous notes there and staring only at a single piece of parchment that seemed to outshine all the others. There was a drawing there, or actually two. One clearly showed the witcher, his light hair and the scar were artfully carved out. However, he was wearing stately robes in this picture (in Corvo Bianco, he usually wore a simple shirt and linen pants like a peasant, sometimes even no shirt, which seemed to make the ladies very uncomfortable). Even more astonishing was that right next to it... the emperor was pictured. A little soft-focused, but clearly Nilfgaard’s ruler. Both of them were smiling in these portraits, which seemed strange somehow, even if Delron couldn't have said exactly why.

Even stranger, however, were the words. 

After Delron had laboriously deciphered them, he immediately read the whole thing again, could not believe a word, and finally, after looking around furtively three times, tore off the note and took it with him. 

Back at the winery, the news made the rounds. Delron, who did not let go of the parchment, had to read the text so many times that in the end he knew it by heart. 

"This is nonsense," said his cousin, and the other servants standing around her laughed, claiming Delron was pranking them. 

Ambre did not laugh, she turned and hissed at the others that Delron might not only lose his position, but end up losing his head should this find its way to Nilfgaard. 

"That's the emperor's seal," Delron claimed, pointing to some sort of stamp at the bottom of the parchment that looked really official and important.

"Why would our master marry the emperor?" his cousin exclaimed, annoyed. 

To this, Delron had no answer. All attempts to get something out of Master Faulty failed. He remained stubbornly silent, which made many wonder, for Master Faulty was a great advocate of the witcher, and yet did nothing to dispel the rumors.

Summer gradually passed into a gentle autumn, without the witcher having visited the winery. Yet everything went on as usual, and provided he liked to check on things at some point, he would find everything in perfect order. 

One morning, shortly after the first cockcrow, the new lad, the beanstalk, ran like mad all over the estate to gather all the remaining farmhands in front of the main house. There were only a handful left, as always at the end of harvest time: Delron, his cousin, and a few other women and men; enough to take care of the house and yard, and no superfluous servants to stretch the duchess's generosity. 

Master Faulty greeted them all with a serious face. "We have received some surprising news," he began, "which requires each of you to take on some extra effort."

And then he dropped the bomb. 

"As you may have heard, our master is getting married," he said, and the surprised murmurs of the bystanders revealed that no one had really believed it. 

"The emperor, really?" someone shouted, and Master Faulty looked sternly over his spectacle lenses, clicking his tongue. 

"Surely I don't have to remind you of Toussaint's traditions," he replied, "which embrace tolerance and hospitality."

"Hospitality?" Delron blurted out. "This wedding is taking place in Nilfgaard, after all."

Everyone stared at him, including Master Faulty, although he knew that rumors had spread among the servants. And he also knew that few of the inhabitants had much sympathy for Nilfgaard's appropriation of the duchy – they considered it a personal affront to the duchess, although she had not suffered any disadvantage so far, on the contrary. 

"Unfortunately, that is currently not an option," he replied stiffly. 

Much later they learned of a fire in the palace shortly before the wedding, and that the witcher had heroically saved the emperor. It was probably not the whole truth, but it was enough. 

"We will receive the wedding couple here," Master Faulty added, and from then on, things really got wild. 

Every hand in Corvo Bianco was kept busy, everything spruced up, last-minute supplies were procured, the yard and garden decorated as if for the summer solstice. Guests were only a handful, and they all appeared through a magical gateway, and everyone who saw it almost fainted (except Delron, who was now observing this almost detachedly). 

It was an amazingly quiet little wedding, considering who was getting married. Most of the women sighed, a few men grumbled, but Delron watched the couple leave the house sometime just before sunset (honestly, it looked like they were trying to sneak away). He watched as they walked, their hands clasped tightly, toward the garden. An unusual couple, to be sure. 

Ambre stepped up beside him, headbutted him, saying, "Don't stare."

But she, too, looked behind them almost dreamily and finally whispered, "Pepper and salt."

Delron looked at her in surprise, but he understood. Black and white, purely on the outside, and certainly just as opposite. But with luck, they complemented each other, were irreplaceable. Who cared that it was a most unusual union? Delron hadn't even begun to grasp the basic tenets of love, but he saw the looks the two gave each other before they disappeared from his sight, and perhaps he sighed a little. 

"You'll figure it out some day," Ambre said softly. "Let's go home."

They set off, walking up a little beside the path the newlyweds had also taken, but with enough distance between them not to run into them by chance. The evening was crisp, the air crystal clear, and the chirping of the crickets could be heard so loudly that one could believe it resounded all the way down to the house, which was now a good distance below them. 

It was not the only sound that was well heard that evening. 

A flock of birds suddenly burst from the undergrowth and flew away scolding. The echo of soft laughter was heard, and then something...

Ambre blushed, which was easy to see even in the approaching darkness, and she muttered, "Oh dear."

Then she drove Delron relentlessly forward, faster up the hill, away from the couple and the sounds, and Delron laughed.

His master was happy, love was sacred, and Corvo Bianco could be content with that.

might be controversial but … let’s talk about video reviews for a quick second. the women’s 200 IM semifinals were a shitshow. it was what it was. but as with all video reviews in sport, officials need to be ✨c o n s i s t e n t✨ because the integrity (though, debatable how much integrity there is within FINA …) of the sport for those who watch and those with aspirations to compete at an international level, will be decimated.

i mean if we really look at what kaylee was DQ’d for in semifinal 1, you can’t go past horizontal, right?

borderline but i see where the officials are coming from. this one of them turns u gotta practice and practice to get right, let alone perfect in order to not got past the horizontal, make sure ur close enough to the wall and all the jazz.

was there consistency in the calls made by officials? nah bro. walsh’s turn below shows hers was further past the line of horizontal AND in the lane next to mckeown.

angle is different, but her hand in so much further past her head, the back hole of her racing suit is out of the water, and look at how rotated her hips are. was this a DQ? nope. hmm interesting 🤔

oof!! worse!! uncalled!! and wins a silver medal!! however. the calls were what they were. alex walsh clearly has the speed to be there and the talent. of course she needs to ensure she’s following the rules, but we’re not here to diss her. we can’t call out intention without admission, or consistent evidence of her pushing to see where the line is.

i’m here to call out the officials. swimmers and viewers are at your mercy. you are meant to be the experts, the ones to catch both obvious infringements, and the unintentional / accidental ones. without consistency, clear expectations and communication - swimmers lose faith in the system, fans lose faith in the system, and we end up like football’s VAR (👀🫣).

i think i’m just here to start the conversation bc it irks me that if FINA are gonna implement this (which is already happening), officials need to be held to a standard which ensures consistency across the men’s and women’s competitions, across heats, and across meets bc if it’s not … why bother and just go back to eyeballing it y’all.

ok if i am being entirely honest about t, there were a few things i disliked about it but they passed. frank discussion on these things below the cut, maybe a little tmi lol

there's a joke that T gives you the 3 Hs: hairy, hungry, horny.

the hunger was kinda annoying at first, but it passes. the horny hit me all at once very suddenly and was extremely annoying, but again, it passed after a few months. hairy increases over time, and never stops. for those wishing to grow a beard, it might be a couple years before you can actually grow one. I have no desire to grow one but even still i didn't really have to shave 'for real' until like 1.5 years on T.

that said. the hairiness did bother me a bit at first. bc living as a woman, it was drilled into me by society (and my mom) that hairy=gross&ugly. but i've started to just embrace the hairiness and now i simply do not care. the only place it bothers me is on my face so i shave but that's about it. hairiness is neutral!!! it is not gross and ugly!! it is just a thing that happens to bodies!!!! we are mammals!!!!! mammals have hair!

the top of my head however is a different story. i had some significant hair recession (which is entirely based on genetics, i think from your mother's side) but there are products that can help with that BUT ALSO there's nothing uncool about balding. honestly it makes you look more masculine. i hated the recession at first but now i have a nice widow's peak which is like. very masc imo.

the voice changes happen gradually but you will start noticing it pretty early. took about 6 months i think for my voice to get 'deep-ish' but my voice was not exactly super high before. i remember a few months in when i could reach the same pitch with my voice that my viola makes on the open C string and i was so happy lol. i recorded my voice over the months too so i could hear the progress as it happened.

then there's the bottom growth. honestly i didn't notice it really at first but i wasn't one for like looking down there regularly if i'm being honest. it's definitely noticeable tho. it's kinda fascinating really. i have no strong opinions either way on the bottom growth but i know some transmascs love it. i'm a repulsed ace so idk i don't really care. don't really notice it. but it can be sensitive or even itchy when you first start T

but honestly. the main reason why i would never want to go off T is the fact that it completely stopped my menstrual cycle. that bitch ruined my life. pmdd horrifically awful and i wish it on no one.

there's more too. but like. i was pretty unsure about T at first but now like. now i have 0 regrets. it's been great 😎 hrt is amazing

No ÐWOTD today... but something else...

Had a brainwave in class today and got home and typed up a quick draft of a new little mini-project: it's polysynthetic like Ðusyþ but in a different way. Ðusyþ's polysynthesis is more discrete, with each part not really interacting with the others, and overall fairly simple; this new conlang which I'm calling Jeldic for now is a lot more complex.

Bask in these examples, using the verb stem agw- "to do with speaking", of class: [agw- Th[TA T I E], C-II, S-O, P-kwá-]. (Don't worry about this for now!)

This showcase would look primarily at the suffix in slot -2, the "thematic suffix", which is a single suffix that determines the valency, state, perfectiveness, and volition of the verb in question. by alternating it, one can create a variety of meanings. The thematic suffix is very important as it dictates the forms of many of the other affixes around.

This conlang also has some highly complex morphophonological interactions. It's not done yet, so right now these are just drafts, but I expect some mind-bending verb paradigms!

The self-proclaimed king and the man who runs boxing made his return to the ring in Tampa, FL, on July 20. Controversial and divisive social media star Jake Paul (10-1, 7 KOs) stopped former MMA and current bare-knuckle fighter Mike Perry over six rounds. Paul was largely dominant, scoring knockdowns in both the first and second rounds before forcing a stoppage after dropping Perry a third time in the sixth. 

With another victory in the books, the question remains: what's next for Paul? When is his next scheduled fight? And what did we learn from his performance against Perry? Frontproof Media lists four things we learned from Paul's win over Mike Perry. 

1.WE KNOW HIS NEXT FIGHT

A gigantic fight with former heavyweight champion Iron Mike Tyson is on the horizon for Paul. The fight was rescheduled for November 15 because Tyson suffered a stomach ulcer that caused him to take a break in training. The fight will be broadcast on the world's biggest streaming platform, Netflix, and will be held at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas, TX. 

The event has the potential to be one of the biggest in combat sports history in both viewership and attendance. On the undercard will be one of the most anticipated rematches in women's boxing history, with Amanda Serrano challenging Katie Taylor for her undisputed junior welterweight titles. The mix of having a genuine boxing match that holds implications for the immediate future of women's boxing and an event-centered fight to bring in casual fans could be a recipe for something unprecedented in the sport. 

2. JAKE PAUL WILL CONTINUE TO FIGHT MMA FIGHTERS IN BOXING MATCHES

After three fights against fighters whose careers were primarily rooted in pugilism, Paul is firmly set on fighting MMA fighters. Following the fight with Perry, there was no talk of progression in terms of increasing his fights from eight to ten rounds or facing a cruiserweight contender, taking him one step closer to his supposed goal of winning a world title. The current crop of cruiserweight champions are not well known by the general public, with only Gilberto Ramirez and Jai Opetaia having any name recognition. 

Aside from his upcoming bout with Tyson, Paul only spoke about potentially fighting MMA superstar Conor McGregor and current UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira. Recently, Pereira expressed interest in taking a fight within the rules of the sweet science. Pereira has fought one professional boxing match and 40 kickboxing matches in addition to his 13 MMA bouts. Upon hearing this news, Paul said he would be happy to welcome the UFC champion back to boxing. 

"Alex Pereira, you said you wanna box," Paul said after his fight with Mike Perry. "I'm the king of this. Come over; we can make it happen. After Mike Tyson, let's make it happen." 

Continuing fights with former or current MMA fighters is acceptable for a fighter with only monetary concerns. However, Paul stated he wanted to be taken seriously as a boxer and become a legitimate world champion one day. Paul is being pulled in multiple directions by casual fans, hardcore boxing fans, and his own team. Fighting boxers that are unknown to the masses won't garner Paul the same-sized paychecks and will put him at a greater risk of losing. Yet, he can only achieve his goal of being a world champion in boxing by beating a real professional boxer. 

3. JAKE PAUL NEEDS TO WORK ON HIS CONDITIONING

Paul has looked absolutely dominant in his previous three outings. He's scored two consecutive first-round knockouts against Andre August and Ryan Bourland. The bout with Tyson will be at heavyweight, and thus, Paul has put on weight in preparation. The cruiserweight fight with Perry showcased Paul's power and, most importantly, an improving jab. The jab set Perry up for Paul's power shots and made him think twice anytime he wanted to advance an attack. 

As the rounds passed, it became clear that Perry would not be finished in one or two rounds. Paul continued to land power shot after power shot, and while Perry's sheer toughness was on full display, so was Paul's diminishing energy. Paul looked sloppy at times and seemed like he was in a hurry for the rounds to end. Fortunately for Paul, he was against an opponent who had less-than-stellar footwork and was unable to take advantage of openings. 

Against a 58-year-old Mike Tyson, Paul may be able to escape unpunished fighting in spurts while languishing in rounds throwing punches with the technique of a bar-brawler. But, when he does step in the ring against a true adversary with no significant disadvantages, his conditioning will be crucial. 

4. THE ACT IS STARTING TO FEEL STALE WHILE SALES REMAIN STEADY

Whether boxing purists like it or not, Jake Paul is one of the sport's most significant names. The fight with Mike Perry sold out at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, and over 17,500 fans were in attendance. Will fans still pay to watch him fight a former NBA player or a past-his-prime former champion after a few more years of the same song and dance? 

Paul's team has been brilliant in how they have slowly moved him while ballooning his box office returns. They may already have a plan to prevent Paul's career from feeling stale, yet fans can only be fooled for so long.

Kanuna aykırı şekilde para toplanıyor düzenli olarak. Şahısların para toplama eylemi için ek ceza olmalıydı.

Belediyelerin mama harcamaları için denetim eksikliği var. Bu kanun fırsat idi, kaçırdık fırsatı.

Belediyelerin kısırlaştırma görevini ihmal için madde yok.

Özel veterinerlerde yapılacak kısırlaştırma için destek/indirim olmalıydı vatandaşların desteği için, yok. Şu hâliyle daha çok itlaf amaçlı görünüyor. Yeterince hazırlanmadan, veterinerlik tecrübesini katmadan alel acele yapılmış gibi.

Gerçekten hayvanların iyiliğini düşünen ve hayvan sevgisi taşıyan insanlar, sokak yerine insanlarla birlikte mutlu olmalarını ister kedi ve köpeklerin. Araştırmalardan istatistiklere kadar sokakta yaşayanlar kedi ve köpeklerin ciddi derecede daha az yaşadıkları ortada.

Fakat bu nasıl bir sevgi ise, sokakta yaşasınlar da gerekirse daha az yaşasınlar diyen bir topluluk da mevcut… Ben aynı mantıkla barınakları da uygun çözüm olarak görmüyorum. Zira barınaktaki hayvanların da ömürleri, evdekilere göre düşük.

dün bugün 2 veteriner arkadaşımla görüştüm. biri daha iyimser, öbürü daha realist diyeyim. bu görüşmelerden sonra sokak köpekleriyle ilgili fikirlerim net olarak oturdu kafamda şöyle ki: 1- sokak köpeklerinin kontrolsüz artışı ve saldırganlaşmasındaki temel sebep rastgele besleme.

Bu arada genel çerçeveyi de doğru çizmemiz zorunlu. Öncelikle şunun kabul edilmesi lazım: Yaşadığımız dünyada mevcut nizam ve anlayış önce insanları tercih eder. Bir tercih yapılması gerektiğinde uygarlık, insanı seçmek durumundadır.

Buna uygun olarak kişiler de -yani her insan- insanı öncelemek zorundadır. Başka bir deyişle insan, tercih yapması gerektiğinde insanı seçmelidir. Bu açıdan bakıldığında hayvanlar insanlara eşit ya da denk değildir. Öncelik, her zaman ve her şartta insandadır.

Bu açıdan değerlendirildiğinde: “Köpekleri tercih ederim.” demek insani, hukuki ve uygar bir tutum değildir. Bu şekilde düşünenler, tartışmadan, önerilerden, çözümün arandığı zeminlerden hariç tutulmalıdır. Zira demokratik ve uzlaşmacı zeminlerin temel kuralı budur.

İşin bir diğer yönü de kamu kaynaklarının kullanımı konusudur. Bu, vatandaşlık hukuku ve ilkeleri çerçevesinde yorumlanması ve yürütülmesi gereken bir konu. Hiçkimse: “Ben onu istemiyorum.” yahut “Ben şunu doğru buluyorum.” diyerek kamu kaynaklarının harcanmasını isteyemez.

Kamu harcamalarının bilimin, meslek odalarının, akademinin raporlarına uygun olması esas ve önceliktir. Başka bir deyişle duygu, istek ve kanaatler yerine, bilim, ölçülebilirlik ve tüm yönleriyle kamu yararı gözetilerek karar verilmelidir. +

Büyük sayıda hayvan kısırlaştırma kararı, ciddi uzmanlık gerektiren bir konudur. Kısırlaştırma, nüfus kontrolü gibi karmaşık konularda kararı, uzmanlara yani veterinerler gibi yetkin kişilere bırakmak gerekir.

Bu tür karar ve konular, kamuoyuna bırakılamaz. Zira sıradan vatandaş yeterli bilgi birikimine sahip değildir. Bunu demokrasi sanmak aptallıktır. Demokrasi, kurumların ve uzmanlığın rejimidir. Demokrasi yetkili ve yetişmiş kişilerin çözüm bulduğu sistemdir.

Halka sorarak uzmanları devre dışı bırakmak, kamu maliyesi gibi konuları halka danışarak taraf olmak, demokrasi değildir.

Sokak köpeklerinin insan sağlığına zararları

Sokak köpeklerinin insanlarla kontrolsüz* biçimde yaşaması toplum için bir sağlık sorunudur. Kontrolsüz köpek nüfusu saldırmadığında da insan sağlığını tehdit eder (* Tıbbı bakım, aşı anlamında).

Köpek pisliği insan için hastalık sebebidir. Sokaklardaki köpek pisliği, arttığı oranda kist hidatik hastalığına sebep olur. Bu hastalık, ölümcül olabilir.

Köpeğin sokakta yaşaması normal değildir

Köpekler insanla yaşamak isterler. Köpekler sokakta daha mutsuz ve sağlıksızdır. Köpekler sokakta daha büyük risklere maruz kalırlar.

Şu unutulmamalıdır ki doğada köpek yoktu. Köpekler, kurtlardan, insanla birlikte yaşamak için evrimleşmiştir. Dolayısıyla köpek için iyisini isteyen insan, köpeğin sokakta yaşamasını değil, insanla birlikte yaşamasını ister.

Sosyal medyada para toplama konusu

Kanunen yasaktır. Türk vatandaşları yardım amaçlı para toplayamazlar; kanunen yasaktır.

Kanuna göre yardım toplayabilmek için valilikten izin almak, valilik kontrollü banka hesabı açmak ve her duyuruda (sosyal medya dahil) valilik iznini belirterek çağrı yapmak zorundadır.

Sokak köpekleri için belediyelerin harcadığı kaynaklar

Sokak köpeklerinin saldırı sayısı biliniyor mu?

Prof. Dr. Nilüfer Sabuncu’ya göre her gün sekiz yüz (800) vatandaşımız sokak köpekleri tarafından ısırılmaktadır.

Bununla birlikte kamu harcamaları adil, hakça ve insan öncelikli olmalıdır.

Günümüzde İl Tarım ve Orman Bakanlığı uhdesinde işletme verme yetkisi vardır. Esas sorun denetleme aşamasındadır.

Sürüleşme sebebiyle. Köpeklerin doğal ve içgüdüsel olarak çeteleşme, saldırma huyları vardır. İçgüdüsel olması webebiyle bu yönleri baskılanamaz, değiştirilemez.

Köpekler saldırdığında ne olur?

Köpekler, insanlara öldürmek için saldırır kabulu doğrudur. Köpeklerin insanı etkisizleştirme gibi önceliği ya da tercihi, beyin kapasiteleri sebebiyle, mümkün değildir. Dolayısıyla saldıran köpek, insanı öldürmek amacıyla eylem içerisindedir.

Sokak köpeklerini kısırlaştırmanın çerçevesi ve bilimsel gerçekleri

Bir önceki başlıkta anlamlı ve çözüm olacak kısırlaştırmanın bilimsel çerçevesi çizilmişti. Bu çerçeveye uyacak şekilde yapılacak kısırlaştırma için Türkiye’de açılması gereken ilave harcama kalemleri aşağıda sıralanmıştır.

Türkiye’deki sokak köpeği sayısının 10 milyon olduğunu ve sadece bir cinsin kısırlaştırılacağını kabul edersek, yapacağımız kısırlaştırma adedi en az 1 milyon olacaktır. Hiç şüphesiz kısırlaştırmanın daha büyük oranda ve sayıda olması gereklidir. Ben örnek olması açısından tüm hesapları 1 milyon üzerinden yapacağım.

“Teknik olarak 2-3 ay içerisinde %60 kısırlaştırma gereklidir. Bunun altında kısırlaştırma, orta ve uzun vadede köpek nüfusunu düşüremez. 55-70 gün içerisinde doğum yapan, her doğumda 6 ve üzeri yavuralayn bir türden bahis ettiğimizi dikkate almak lazım ve şarttır.”

Türkiye Veterinerler Odası Birliği belgesine göre kısırlaştırma için harcanması gereken minimum bedeli XXX TL.’dir (Kaynakça XX).

6’000’000 x 628₺ = 3’768’000’000 ₺, bu rakamı, vergi mükellefi olan 25 milyona bölersek, kişi başına 150₺ düşmekte.

Ameliyat (kısırlaştırma) sonrasında yapılması gereken en az bakım

Türkiye Veterinerler Odası Birliği belgesine göre kısırlaştırma sonrasında en az XX gün boyunca bakım verilmesi gerekmektedir. Bunun harcanması gereken minimum bedeli XXX TL.’dir (Kaynakça XX).

Günümüzde sınırsız sayıda hayvan alıp hepsini sokağa atabilirsiniz.Çip sistemi hayata geçirilmişken mevcut kontrolsüzlük kabul edilmezdir.

İdeali hayvan alan kişilerin sokağa atamaması ve daha önemlisi sorumluluğunu almasıdır. Mesela çip ile sahibinin adına kayıt edilmiş hayvanların, evde beslenmeme kararı alındığı zaman, yıllık barınak ücreti ile sahibinin sorumluluğuna teslim edilmelidir.
