What's your personal favorite AU out of them all???
In a previous ask, I wasn’t very certain how to answer this sort of question—but now, I do think I figured it out, and did like a little list.
It’s in the order of both which is my favorite+how much I like them. But even then, it doesn’t mean too much—like, the lowest one is still one I like a lot. I wouldn’t do AU’s that I hated, obviously.
1: Dr. Scraptrap AU.
2: Tie between the Swap AU with Cassie, Glitchtrap, and Vanny—and the Reluctant Follower Jeremy & Animatronic Vanny AU.
3: The memory and reunion AU with Glamrock Freddy and Glamrock Bonnie.
4: The Game AU/the one where the kid ends up in some sort of video game with Freddy and the others.
5: The ghost David AU.
Even though I’d say the Dr. Scraptrap AU, the Swap AU, and the Animatronic Vanny AU would be like... the top 3, I still really enjoy all of the other ones.

Just finished watching the FNAF movie (hooray for early UK release!) and I unironically loved it. Some things I want to mention…
Spoilers under the cut!
MATTHEW LILLARD AS WILLIAM AFTON 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
JOSH HUTCHINSON AS MIKE SCHMIDT 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Honestly me just losing my fucking shit whenever there was a reference to the lore/games?!?! Like I was SO excited it was unreal
THE TOREADOR MARCH?!? FOXY SINGING?!? BALLOON BOY?!?! VANESSA?!? THE FREDDY LAUGH?!? THE “IT’S ME” WRITTEN ON THE MIRROR?!?
Not gory at all tbh like there’s a couple of scenes involving blood but most of the kills cut away before showing anything (there WAS a scene where Freddy chomped someone’s torso in half but you only see her bottom half afterwards, like the bite happens in the shadows)
There were, in fact, five nights at Freddy’s (and one day) (yes I counted lol) and absolutely nothing of particular scariness happened on Nights 1 or 2, Night 3 was cute, Night 4 started off cute but got sad and then Night 5 was kind of terrifying, kind of funny, kind of fucking awesome and filled with lore
They definitely missed a trick by not mentioning the Bite of ‘87 (or ‘83? Idk) or Golden Freddy but I know there MIGHT be a sequel so… 👀
I spent the whole of the movie trying to figure out who the fifth child/animatronic was 💀 like obviously Freddy, Chica, Bonnie and Foxy… was the fifth one the fucking cupcake?!?!
The cupcake was kinda goofy but I loved it all the same
The animatronics went from villains to not villains to villains to not villains again like what a journey
Look most of my FNAF knowledge admittedly comes from watching Markiplier and JackSepticEye playthroughs but since when was Vanessa William Afton’s daughter?!? Also is Vanessa THE Vanny???
Going into soft play with the pre schoolers at work is NOT going to be the same after this film 💀
Literally all of the people in the cinema freaked out when Springtrap appeared oh my god
We have come SO FAR since the SFM fanmade videos of William Afton in the Springtrap suit getting springlocked and dying surrounded by the ghost children in the animatronics like holy shIT?!?!
“I always come back” - cue the 20 people at the 10:50am showing I was in absolutely losing their fucking shit
In the sequel (if there’s a sequel) I DEMAND more Matthew Lillard as William Afton/Springtrap like yeah he’s dead but FLASHBACKS!!!! Prequels?!? So much potential there. What I’m trying to say is that we deserved more of him, he was amazing but only there at the beginning and the very end, that’s my top complaint tbh
Not that scary to be honest but there’s some jump scares
I will say this, it definitely felt VERY campy at times, like there were moments involving murderous animatronics where we were all giggling in the cinema
Abby (Abi?) was VERY cute and sweet but also I wanted to shake her like you fucking idiot why are you going up to the scary ass animatronics?!? Stay in the office with your sleeping brother
The fact Mike still has custody of his sister after their aunt was presumably murdered in his home is not adding up but hey ho 😂
Is it the best movie ever made? No, but it was enjoyable for me so I call it a win
If anyone has any questions or wants to talk about it, feel free to hit me up, I won’t be able to reply until just over 4 hours time though as I’m about to head into nursery and do a shift so… yep!

In your AU who is your all time favorite and why?
Anon, I've been thinking about this for hours, I'm NOT joking, This au has been around since 2018, its a very special thing to me, its gotten me personally through ALOT of shit, and its one of Me and Ricks (@galacticaldisaster) first au's/rewrites we've EVER done together, this au short is SO SO important to me which is why its SO HARD just to choose one character, you feel me? On top of that Rick and I try to implement literally EVERYONE into this au, we Cherry-pick from books, we include EVERYONE from AR, there are GENUINELY so many options!
My favorites bounce around alot due to whoever i'm focusing on developing and the likes but i think i've got a solid tie for #1! and ive got reasons for why its a tie :]!
Tumblr media
Chris is my favorite out of all of the characters i've written purely because he makes me very sad, I think i did the best job writing him as a character, hes balanced in the sense that hes a heartbreaking character and yet i think he stays child-like in essence, hes got reason for what he does but he goes about it like a 6 year old would, a very scared 6 year old
Which brings me to my second favorite of all of the characters, Richie. Richie is this au's FNAF 3 Phone dude, I havent really talked about Richie too much, besides the mention from last night. But richie will ALWAYS be on top, mostly because he is the very first character i wrote for this au, WAAAYYY back when i was 15, the very first picture i EVER drew of this au was of Richie Scott, Age 17, Threatening to hit someone with a lightning mcqueen Croc. Richie and Phillip's (@galacticaldisaster s phone guy) whole concept came from a game of Garrys Mod where we were being little idiots and beating the shit out of eachother with fnaf character models! I also just think Richies silly :]
Legally i DO have to give you all my favorite of Ricks characters;
Tumblr media
You all obviously know springtrap/william, absolute motherfucker, but RICK. RICK HAS THE AUDACITY, THE G A L L to both turn him into the saddest dad you've EVER met, and the scariest and i mean, SCARIEST William ive ever read. seriously, dudes believe me, Rick's writing for his devolve from a dad/ business man to murderous deranged killer is GENUINELY my favorite, I've seen alot of interps of william, and maybe im a bit biased, But Ricks is my favorite.
Now Phillip is in the same vein of Richie, hes the phone guy and was made during a game of Gmod via rambling, but Phils character and story is genuinely very very :[ i love him, he is my favorite white boy, Phillip my beloved little corporate slave turned Man Fuck This Place >:,[ i wont talk about his story too much, but its sad, and i fucking adore him and will kill for him
an honorable mention for ricks, who i will not be sharing pictures of is Jeremy Fitzgerald, because rick is the ONLY person i know who has implemented the fact jeremy carved his fucking face off and also once again? i love him. hes a FUCKER.
HONORABLE MENTIONS BELOW CUT!!
my FAVORITE fucker to draw is malhare.
Tumblr media
look at this fucking idiot, i love him, and yet he is ABSOLUTELY TERRIFYING. HE IS A MENACE. this guy and his bestie in au is ARE ABSOLUTE FREAKS. FUCK UP YOUR LIFE FLAVORED FREAKS!!
annnnndd currently my favorite character to write for is Vanny and the Tape girl (Delilah!) :]
Tumblr media
i will not be giving context to this image :]

Now you might be wondering; If DJMM was uninfected in the twin dads au human version, why wasn’t he targeted at all by the infected people? And why didn’t he help the twins more? How didn’t he get infected?
Firstly, he wasn’t targeted because he wasn’t actively helping Gregory. As far as Vanny was aware, DJ was completely clueless to what was happening around him, so there was no point. That, and because the DJ stand is massive and he is the only one with the keys to unlock the passage leading into it. When he noticed the others acting weird that night, he went up there and locked the passage way off.
He wanted to help the twins, too, but he had more responsibilities. Specifically being his own kids. He didn’t have a babysitter so he brought them to work, and they were asleep in the station too. Obviously they are far too young to be left alone, and he didn’t want to risk them getting hurt. He couldn’t keep Gregory with him because with him already having a target on his back if he was kept with the rest of DJs kids, they’d probably be in danger too by proxy something he wasn’t willing to risk. (The other infected people weren’t aware DJs kids were in the building)
Why didn’t he get infected? Simple. He either 1) wasn’t given an accessory by Vanny or 2) never put it on. He’s a polite person so he wouldn’t outright refuse a gem themed accessory, most likely headphones, but I mean he has like four kids? Do you really think someone with that many little kids is going to keep around a pair of headphones covered in pokey, sharp gems? It’s probably sitting on the very top of some cabinet locked in a metal box because the minis wouldn’t stop trying to poke it.
The second reason is the one used for why Sun and Moon aren’t infected in this au. They were given matching bracelets just like normally, and they accepted the gift happily before going back along doing their job. Then they just forgot about them. They decided to put them in their pockets and they ended up getting broken during the shift the next day from a very chaotic party. Kids are chaotic little creatures. The brothers were embarrassed and decided not to mention it because admitting that they forgot these fancy expensive gifts even existed and they ended up getting broken.

85 Super Bowl Appetizers The Whole Team Will Love
Everyone can unite over winning apps!
by CAMILLE LOWDER

One of our favorite parts about the Super Bowl (Feb. 12, 2023) is how it can bring people together, united over one common goal—watching Rihanna in the halftime show. 😉 We jest, obviously we’re talking about the food! Whether you’re in it for the sports, the wild commercials, the Puppy Bowl, or the halftime show, everyone can unite over some winning apps for Super Bowl LVII. We have all the classics, like next-level wings, dips, and sliders, plus some show-stoppers like pull-apart breads and football-themed desserts.
There’s really something for everyone, from last-minute party throwers to hosts with the most. Short on time? Throw some chips or crackers in a bowl, serve next to an epic dip like our Nashville hot chicken dip or our football field dip, and call it a day. Looking for something a little easier? Homemade guacamole is always a hit, and nacho cheese is a classic for a reason. Looking to impress? Our sloppy Joe cups, our cheeseburger tot sliders, and our shrimp tostada bites are the perfect intersection between classy and game day. Want to really wow your crowd? Put our pull-apart spinach-artichoke football, our blooming quesadilla ring, or our football field dip in the middle of your app table and watch people lose their minds.
Sometimes all it takes for an incredible party spread is to change up the flavors of old standbys. We love Buffalo wing sauce as much as the next person, but were happily blown away by the flavor of our Taiwanese popcorn chicken, our honey-garlic cauliflower, and our ranch wings too. We almost couldn’t believe it, but grape jelly does truly elevate meatballs. And turns out, you can put anything in an egg roll—like Reuben sandwich-, meatball sub-, or cheesesteak-inspired fillings—for the perfect party appetizer.
No matter who you’re cheering for this Super Bowl, these apps will start the day off right—and keep everyone happy right up to the last play. For more game day inspiration, check out our favorite Super Bowl snacks, our top game day desserts, and our best-ever Super Bowl drinks too.

Sheet-Pan Green Chile Chicken Nachos
What’s better than a tray of cheesy chicken nachos? Four cheese chicken nachos! Don’t worry, though, a couple cans of chopped green chiles cut the richness of all that cheese. (Not that we’re complaining.) We’ll leave the toppings up to you, but we suggest The Works, aka red onion, radishes, avocado, jalapeño, cilantro, and hot sauce.

Nachos Supreme
In 1943, some wives of U.S. soldiers stationed at Fort Duncan in Eagle Pass, Texas, were on a shopping trip in the bordering city of Piedras Negras, Mexico. They stopped at a just-closed restaurant. Not wanting to disappoint his customers, the maître d’, Ignacio "El Nacho" Anaya, was determined to whip something up for them. Robowar (1988)
Tumblr media
Robowar is a delightfully inept rip-off of 1987’s Predator. The monster looks silly, the dialogue will have you scratching your head, the action is over-the-top and there’s hardly any attempt to be original - all of which contribute it to being “so bad it’s good”.
On an unnamed island, Major Marphy Black (Reb Brown) and B.A.M. (Big Ass Motherf*ckers) - a group of elite specialist commandos - are sent on a secret mission. Only Mascher (Mel Davidson) knows that there's an even deadlier threat than the guerrillas torching villages and attacking civilians: Omega-1. This indestructible and invincible machine is their true objective.
No, I didn’t make any typos in my description of the film. The laughs begin as soon as we meet our heroes: Marphy “Killzone” Black, Pvt. Larry “Diddy Bop” Guarino (Massimo Vanni), Cp. Neil Corey (Romano Puppo), Alfred “Papa Doc” Bray (John P. Dulaney), Sunny “Blood” Peel (Jim Gaines) and Nung “Quang” Quo (Max Laurel) some of these fools obviously got to pick their own nicknames. Others? not so much. Even the worst one isn’t as bad as “Virgin” (Catherine Hickland) - who plays essentially the same role as Elpidia Carrillo did in Predator. Now to be fair, sometimes the dialogue refers to these people under different names but this is what they’re credited as and it’s much funnier to think of them this way.
Usually, you want to turn on the subtitles while watching a bad movie. It allows you to more easily follow the plot while you’re busy making jokes. For Robowar, I recommend that you do not. The main reason is Omega-1. This laughable opponent - a “robot” that looks like an overdressed Road Warrior reject - constantly babbles robo-jargon and if you don’t know what it’s actually saying, it sounds like it’s calling everything in sight “greasy”. The laughs never stop. The most surprising thing about Robowar is that director Bruno Mattei - under the alias Vincent Dawn - did not give his monster the ability to turn invisible. It would’ve done wonders for the film because the android pitted against B.A.M. (remember, it stands for Big Ass Motherf*ckers) is not the least bit intimidating. Sure, it’s got firepower. In fact, it annihilates every building and vehicle in sight with ease thanks to the blasters it has mounted on its arm - and possibly the gun it carries too - but the thing’s vision (which we get to see all the time to preserve the mystery of what it looks like, Predator-style) is so bad it’s a wonder it can even walk in a straight line, much less find a target.
This film shamelessly steals. Remember that scene when Arnold Scwarzenegger’s Dutch and his comrades fired aimlessly into the jungle, hoping to hit their unseen enemy? This movie does it TWICE! The attack on the village of guerillas that culminates in a thrown knife and a great one-liner? Reb Brown does his best imitation but he’s got no charisma, whatsoever. The scene where Sonny Landham’s Billy defiantly stayed behind to face the creature? This movie does that too, but since they don’t have any Native Americans in the crew, a Philippino guy will do instead. Even individual lines are reworded and vomited on-screen by the actors, which makes the film even funnier if you’re intimately familiar with the 1987 action sci-fi classic.
The only thing preventing me from giving Robowar a higher rating is that there is a part during the middle when it begins to sag. A lot of this film is people wandering in the jungle, stumbling upon some admittedly well-done corpses (the handiwork of some mysterious creature… oooooh!). It allows you to get all the jokes you’ll have out no problem but can make the 92 minutes feel a little long. Fear not, however, as the ending is hilarious. There are a lot of laughs in Robowar. None of them are intentional, but that’s totally fine with me. (August 18, 2022)

Day 6: Endings/Beginnings
Link to Ao3: https://archiveofourown.org/works/27429154/chapters/67049683
@fivevanya
Title: Written On These Walls Are The Stories That I Can’t Explain
Chapter 1 of 4, the rest will be posted on Ao3
Klaus watched Allison do some final touches on the very natural makeup onto Vanya’s face, having it that had been approved by their sister roughly a month prior. He could see the nerves on who he’d always considered to be his little sister’s face; evidently the reminders from the few other people that had been flittering in and out of the room that Five and Vanya’s wedding was set to start in less than an hour wasn’t helping.
As Allison took a small step back, examining her perfectionist work, Klaus joined his older sister’s side, looking over his own work on Vanya’s perfectly pinned and twisted hair, paired with the flowered headband and white veil pinned to the back, if he  does  say so himself. Five had given him, in mostly secret, meaning Vanya didn’t know about it but the rest of them did, that he wanted Vanya’s hair to be pinned back and out of her face, as she had no reason to hide behind it at her own wedding. And Klaus and Allison, the unofficial hair and makeup team, heavily agreed, as did their other siblings.
For the most part, the siblings had unanimously agreed that their assigned numerical order basically implicated them as Luther being the oldest, although now that title belonged to Five, and Vanya as the youngest with Klaus being the  true  middle child. And because of this unspoken notion that Vanya was the youngest, each of the siblings felt varying degrees of protectiveness towards each of their siblings, but Vanya in particular. In part due to the first nearly thirty years of their lives believing that she was born without powers, which was a lie,  obviously .
In this new timeline though, within a month of Reginald Hargreeves, once again, killing himself in hopes of ‘reuniting the Umbrella Academy’ not knowing that they had never broken up in this timeline, only separating themselves from him, Five and Vanya were engaged and had roped Allison, Klaus, and Ben into helping plan the event.
Back to the issue at hand, despite basically  everyone  around them knowing that Five and Vanya had practically been made for each other, Klaus could practically see his sister shaking with nerves, a previous lifetime of a lack of self-confidence rising to the surface. He carefully reached a hand out and took a hold of one of Vanya’s hands, rubbing little circles into her hand in reassurance. “What’s got you so stressed Vanny?” he asked, “Is it Allison? Because we can kick her out, we don’t need her anyway.”
He’d pretended to whisper the last bit, not lowering his voice at all, if anything getting louder, but the giggle that Vanya gave him was worth the soft glare Allison gave him for it. Klaus could see the slightest bit of tension ease from Vanya’s shoulders, as well as the small tremors nearly ceasing. “No, no, no.” Vanya said, “Nothing like that, it’s more, I just, I’m a. I’m just feeling a little, I don’t know-”
“Scared?” Allison guessed, “because it’s perfectly normal to be a little scared  right  before your wedding. That’s how I felt before I married Raymond.”
“Not Patrick?” Klaus teased.
Allison laughed shortly, ending it with a sigh before explaining that, “My marriage to Patrick was very different from my marriage to Raymond. Patrick and I’s wedding was very big, and extravagant, and public, and I knew like none of the people there. And the ones that I did were self-centered assholes. While Raymond and I’s wedding was small and private, I still didn’t know that many people there all that well, but I'd rather talk to them than those at Patrick and I’s wedding.”
“So being Mrs. Chestnut was  better , than being the A-List Mrs. Wilson?” Klaus asked, “How is that possible?”
“I didn’t say it was better!” Allison hissed, albeit the bite in it was lost by the barely contained laughter behind her grin, “I just said they were different.”
Klaus muttered to Vanya, “Different, different she says. You believe that?” Once again getting Vanya, and Allison, to laugh a bit, before he asked Vanya, much more seriously, “What about marrying Five, the little bastard that he is, is causing you to feel scared?”
“Um, well, it’s not so much that I’m like, scared.” Vanya said, “It’s more that, it’s more like, I’m just, I don’t know, nervous I guess. Because like, what if we’re making a huge mistake and once we’re married then we get into an argument or something and then we want to get a divorce, and we wouldn’t be able to be in the same room as each other, and our divorce leads to you guys all having to pick between me and Five, and then my half of the family wouldn’t talk to Five’s half of the family and that this wedding is what caused the entire family to be split in half all because Five and I got into some stupid argument.”
Allison and Klaus exchanged quick glances while Vanya worked herself up, again, before Allison took the lead in calming their sister down, again. “Vanya, not that any of us think that you and Five would get into any kind of argument that would lead to you guys getting a divorce, but even if you did, something insignificant like a divorce would not cause our weird, dysfunctional family to be broken up.”
Some of what Allison had said had gotten to Vanya, but not quite enough for her to completely be reassured that her wedding wasn’t going to ruin their family. Klaus added, “You know, I don’t think I’ve seen two people more made for each other than you and Five, Vanya.” He paused, reveling in the odd looks Vanya and Allison, more so Vanya as Allison was annoyed he’d used a line from her speech later, before laughing, continuing with, “God that was cheesy. Anyway, the point is Vanya, that couples and people argue. That’s normal. But, at least to me, and most of our siblings, as far as I know, it seems that you and Five are  destined to be together, as siblings, best friends, or married. Hell, he’s learned how to time travel to get back to you.”
“He came back for all of us Klaus,” Vanya said, “not just me.”
Rather than point out to her that Five had quickly switched from killing whoever caused the apocalypse to just stopping them and helping them when he found out it was Vanya, Klaus did however, take note that she didn’t disagree with the rest of what he’d said.
Before anyone of them could say another word, there was,  thankfully  , a knock at the door of the makeshift dressing room momentarily paused any more talking. Klaus helped Vanya not trip over her dress, wearing white flats and  not  the short heels Allison and Klaus had tried talking her into wearing, while Allison answered whoever was knocking, pulling open the door to find Ben, crisply dressed in his grey top tux with black pants that matched Allison’s rose gold, with silver detailing, dress.
“Ben,” Allison started, glazing back at Klaus and Vanya before continuing, “we weren’t expecting you so soon.”
Their brother let out a short laugh, telling them that, “As much as I would love to be able to give you guys a few more minutes, Allison and Klaus are needed for line up.”
“Already?” Klaus asked, there was no way it was already-
“Yes, already.” Ben answered, “It’s quarter ‘til nine, and  I  am not going to be the cause of any delays and face the wrath of Five. So, if I were you, I’d go get lined up before Diego has to come look for you.”
“Diego?” Allison questioned, “Not Five?”
Ben shook his head, a small smirk on his face, as he told them, “Five is  oddly superstitious about not seeing His Bride until it’s ‘time’ and Diego has more time than Luther does, so Diego.”
Without anymore convincing needed, Allison and Klaus both quickly left, giving their sister a few more quick, encouraging words before slipping out of the room, leaving Vanya with Ben. As they left, Klaus muttered something quickly to Ben as he passed.
As much as Vanya wanted to finick with her hair as she looked in the mirror, if only in an effort to avoid facing her thoughts (and Ben), the hair spray and Klaus’s previous reminders to ‘stop messing with your hair Vanya, or it’ll  never  be done in time’ kept her from doing so. And instead, she tried to tuck the little curls, that her brother and sister had gotten her up at 6am to burn into her hair, behind her ears, but they kept falling back out from behind them. She was still trying to avoid talking to, or even looking at, Ben, knowing she’d have to face the music.
God, she’s acting like she did something wrong.
Inevitably, Vanya turned from the mirror to face her brother, who was giving her a rather knowing look. “Vanya,” Ben started, “it’s okay if your a  bit stressed. It’s-”
“Normal?” Vanya guessed.
“I was going to say reasonable. But normal works too.” Ben replied. He placed a gentle hand on Vanya’s arm, “Are you ready? Or do you need another minute or two?” Before Vanya replied, he pulled her towards the door, saying that he needed to show her something.
They walked the opposite direction of where the ceremony was going to be taking place in roughly ten minutes at that point, and instead Ben lead her towards the reception area. “Ben? What are we doing?”
Her brother said nothing, just kept leading her towards the reception area, which was still getting the final details set up. There was a pair of wooden doors in front of them, the only thing separating Vanya and Ben from the reception area.
Ben pushed open the doors, and pulled Vanya into the semi-lit room. As she walked into the room, Vanya nearly immediately noticed the many, many, many pictures covering the walls, filling various frames, and littering the spaces left on the tables, most of which she didn’t remember being taken. There were an array of pictures, all of which had her and Five, most featuring their siblings, and several others featuring their friends and tolerable coworkers.
Vanya looked through a small portion of the pictures, being transported back to the memory attached to them as she did, for several minutes, not noticing that nearly all the nervousness that she’d felt before had disappeared. And when Ben asked her, one last time, “Are you ready?”
She simply replied, with a soft smile “Yes.”

if you could only choose one what did you think was the best siblingTM interaction from season 2?? Obv there were so many but Allison rumoring Diego to punch himself is at the top of my list that was peak sibling comedy sis did not even hesitate
Oh god this is so hard....do I go with something funny or something sad??? And then if I do sad do I say something sad tragic or sad heartwarming??
Listen, after season 1, all I wanted was for these doofuses to fucking hug each other. Like, I was screaming at my TV for them to just HUG DAMNIT and S1 we really only got that Luther/Vanya moment (that stands out anyways) which was like GREAT for a second and then SO BAD.
It’s also so funny that I was so focused on them hugging when I myself have a sister and literally I don’t think we’ve even high fived in like a decade so make of that what you will.
So first and foremost, above all my other rankings, let me just say that S2 delivered in the hug department. They heard my screaming. I am so happy about it.
Ok, best funny interaction with the siblings? God there’s so many good bits but I’m going to have say the beauty parlor scene with Vanya, Klaus and Allison. Fist and foremost, Klaus and Allison were like this beautiful nexus of sibling fondness this season, I really enjoyed the way they leaned on each other, kind of saw each other, interacted like best friends. Especially as their journeys S1 were both so tied to other siblings (Klaus and Diego, Allison and Vanya and Luther) it was nice to explore this dynamic.
(Allison jumped in a pool to hug him when she found him. Allison Hargreeves did that.)
And Vanya in that scene is a TREAT. I love this more relaxed Vanya, who doesn’t remember her trauma but is like “holy fucking shit I have a sister?! Amazing! And my brother is a kook but he hugged me and called me Vanny so we must be close!” Just, the simple joy of having a connection to people who are happy to see her. Just the back and forth, the gentle ribbing, the way she bunny hops over to their group hug before the dance number? *chefs kiss*
Best sad interactions with the siblings is definitely Ben and Vanya’s hug. It’s a relationship I didn’t even know I needed to see developed until it happened. “You’re not a monster; you’re my sister.” Like? I wonder if S1 when Luther had her locked up if Ben was screaming at Klaus to go help their sister? If he always saw her - not as ordinary and not as a threat, but as her, as Vanya, his sister. WOULD LOVE TO KNOW.
(This is followed very closely by the scene with Diego and Vanya on Sissy’s porch where she leans her head on his shoulder and he reciprocates. I think their relationship is fascinating - she was at once a target for his teenaged angst bullying but also someone helpless so obviously he categorizes her as someone he has to protect, but then she goes and writes that book and betrays him and his whole family? Suddenly Diego I-Can-Talk-Shit-About-My-Family-But-Don’t-You-Dare-Say-Shit Hargreeves looks at his unobtrusive sister and sees her as a threat, as a villain, so how does he even begin to reconcile those two facets? And obviously, lacking the emotional intelligence to parse out his feelings he just lashes out.
So to see them have this soft moment together - both had just lost the people they loved not by tragedy but by them choosing not to stay - just having that moment where they’re on equal footing and they see each other’s sorrow mirrored back to them and they just...take a moment to lean on each other for support? for comfort? I just...I loved it).

Pierpaolo Piccioli on Photography and More – WWD
https://pmcwwd.files.wordpress.com/2020/07/bfd-valentino-resort-020.jpg?w=640&h=415&crop=1
In ordinary times, Pierpaolo Piccioli would almost certainly have made a brief sojourn to New York in June. He would have presented his resort collection for Valentino before rushing back home — to Rome and the idyllic-sounding, commuting-distance town of Nettuno, where he lives with his family — to ready his couture and men’s collections.
These times are anything but ordinary. Like so many others, Piccioli has spent the spring and early summer sequestered, reinventing work processes in the era of work-from-home. Early on, it was about figuring it all out. Then, it was about getting it done. Piccioli seems to have fared just fine because this week he’s “presenting” two collections, resort first and then couture. Resort will break when Valentino posts the collection’s campaign pictures to social media on Monday. Not just any campaign shoot, mind you, but one he shot, in his hometown, of a dear friend, the glorious Mariacarla Boscono. They’ve known each other for years, since she showed up for a fitting at Fendi when she was a kid. Mariacarla’s not a kid anymore. In a Zoom chat, Piccioli offered that she’s the perfect person for what he wants to express with this collection. “She’s a woman, she’s very aware, she knows fashion…” he said. “I think that she’s the right one to interpret this kind of mood — intimate but very aware.”
We’re intrigued, and asked photographer Vanni Bassetti to stop by the shoot — safely.
Here, Piccioli talks about the collection, photography — and more.
Pierpaolo Piccioli photographs Mariacarla Boscono wearing a look from his upcoming resort collection.  Vanni Bassetti/WWD
WWD: You’re obviously proceeding with collections. How goes the Zoom working life for you?
PierpaoIo Piccioli: At the very beginning it was different, but even interesting to be alone and to be able to think a lot, to reflect about what I was doing, what it could mean.
WWD: Reflection time.
P.P.: To be able to stop everything, to be alone and thinking and drawing and sketching and painting, doing research. It was a different way of working and actually, I kind of like it. Maybe it was also a need for me to be alone and to think. Of course, I’m linked with my team by Zoom.
But I alone, I was not in the rush of everyday routine. Now I’m sure it impacted a lot. It has a big impact on the collection because I have been thinking of the collection in a different way, thinking of the needs of the collection.
WWD: The needs of the collection?
P.P.: Yes. The needs of the people that for sure have changed. I think that now people are kind of different. And maybe I am different. I wanted to do a collection that was less, with fewer pieces. Designed but simple in a way. I did exactly what I had in my mind; I have it in my mind every collection. I want to solve the complexity around simplicity.
So the collection is planned as very simple, but it’s simple because all the complexities are solved. I have been drawing the pieces. This is a collection made with paper and pencil. No styling. Just paper, pencil and drawing, and thinking of the construction.
The difference is that it is really simple but has something in terms of construction. The silhouettes are great when they are sketched and they become alive on a woman because they’re very fluid, super fluid and free. Probably I was feeling the idea of freedom, of less constriction, more of a sense of escapism.
WWD: Escapism. We can all use some of that.
P.P.: I was not thinking of a holiday collection. For me it’s very urban and essential, but designed and not basic.
WWD: On the mood boards Blair [Trader, Valentino p.r.] sent, you have architecture pictures, party pictures from the Seventies, and later, Mark Rothko art. How does it all come together? I assume that the color is key.
P.P.: I wanted these volumes to be defined by the colors. The colors are definitely part of the creation of the pieces. It’s like when Rothko defines volumes with colors. I wanted to handle it in the same way, not to use the color as decoration but as the essence of the pieces. I used many different shades of red, pink, green, blue, but for these pieces to be worn in a free way. So you can put together a top, bottom, trousers, skirts, shirts, in a way that creates different families of colors.
WWD: There are several pictures of Mr. Valentino’s work, by Peter Lindbergh, Walter Chin and others. The clothes are all red. Are you paying particular attention to “Valentino red?”
P.P.: Not really. Just strong colors generally.
WWD: Accessories?
P.P.: I worked a lot on accessories with the atelier. Remember in the March show, I presented the rose bag, the bows, the ruffles, and I was going to continue in this direction, working on the red, rose reds. I wanted the accessories to be very iconic. I wanted the iconic signs of the house [bows, ruffles, etc.] to be the logos of these bags because they don’t have [actual] logos. The logos are the identity of the house, which is something different for accessories.
The bags are made with straw and different materials, with the bows and ruffles in toile. I love the idea of a red-carpet dress, very Valentino, translated into something very contemporary. So let’s say that red dress [in a photograph] from 1959. It’s now a tote bag in clear, and I made it in a clear [material], so very organic, very. It has a different attitude, much more daywear, more contemporary, more facing the moment.

WWD: And you have some very comfortable-looking shoes on those mood boards. Birkenstocks and sneakers.
P.P.: I am going to shoot next week and I want to do a collection without filters, like a diary between Mariacarla and me. It’s going to be a moment between the two of us because we are friends. I want to shoot the collection because I want to deliver the feeling I had when I was drawing it — no filters, so no stylists, no hair, no makeup. No photographer, of course because I am shooting.
I want something more personal, more intimate, very couture because the collection is very close to the kind of daywear pieces of couture. Couture because of the cut and not because of the volume.
WWD: Have you ever done your own photography at this level, for this level of exposure?
P.P.: I just did an editorial for a magazine. I did a series of portraits of people I like. So my wife, my daughters. I like shooting people I have a relationship with. When you shoot someone you have a relationship with, it’s a different kind of picture. It’s more intimate, you feel something more human. It’s not about the glamour of the picture. It’s more about the people who are involved, and probably giving something more personal and more emotional.
WWD: How long have you known Mariacarla?
P.P.: Twenty-five years, something like that. Probably 30 years. She was a kid when I met her for the first time, probably like 14, at the very first casting she did at the time. At Fendi, with Karl in Rome.
WWD: Apart from the friendship, why is Mariacarla right for this collection right now?
P.P.: She’s a woman, she’s very aware, she knows fashion. And for sure, this is a very fashion collection for me. Fashion in terms of cut, volumes, silhouette. I wanted a woman who would wear this collection, not only as a model, but also in real life. I think that she was the right one to interpret this kind of mood, intimate but very aware. Extravagant enough to be daring and not to be safe and only with good taste. I love the idea of being daring, being extravagant [and] being very personal. She does self-expression in a picture, I want her personality. I didn’t want just a face or a body, I want the personality, and she definitely is a personality.
WWD: Are you and she going to style on set or are you going to do it ahead of time?
P.P.: She will come to my home with her daughter and her dog, with my family, with some close people on the team, so very few people. I will send her the collection, she will try it on. [For the shoot], I’ll go around in my home and the places I love very close to my home [in the town of Nettuno]. I want to shoot also in nature, the woods and the sea. I think also that we’ll go out for dinner and she’ll wear something. I’m going to shoot if I like the picture.
WWD: Are you at all concerned about revealing so much of your personal life in these pictures?
P.P.: Not really, not really. I think it’s time to be unfiltered. I think that my job already says a lot of my personality. It will be a diary between the two of us. I mean, I’m really excited to do this.
Pierpaolo Piccioli photographs Mariacarla Boscono wearing a look from his upcoming resort collection.  Vanni Bassetti/WWD
WWD: You always talk about emotion, the emotion of the clothes, the work, the process and about your atelier “family.” How important have those relationships been in working remotely?
P.P.: I missed it a lot, the physical relationship I have with everyone. But you learn to create that same kind of relationship, even not hugging people. You can hug also by saying words, talking about your life, not just talking about the job, for example. Sometimes during this period I have been talking with everyone in my company, with my seamstresses, with my team, with all of them. And you understand that it’s about human relationships. We are the company. It’s not the company itself, the name. It’s the people who are in the company, at the heart of the company. So that is probably the most important thing to evaluate, the human relationships. So I am not concerned to reveal about the house, the relationships, because it’s really authentic.
WWD: This is a unique time, maybe the most bizarre time most of us will ever live through. First, the coronavirus, and now the global social justice demands following the death of George Floyd and other police killings in the U.S. Do you stop to think, why does fashion even matter in this moment, and has it been hard for you to concentrate on your work?
P.P.: Of course I think that this moment is a very important one. Equality is the most important thing, but real equality and not just words. You definitely want to be more radical, more extreme, more — I want to be more radical in my fashion and in everything I am doing.…The idea of the Black Lives Matter movement — for me, that’s the most important thing that’s happening in the world at the moment.…So, of course, we all have to fight together in order to stop this. This is the moment that we can’t say maybe or maybe later; we have to do it now. All together.
I think that all of us are involved in the fight of Black Lives Matter. But as you know, I’ve always thought the same for every kind of community. I don’t believe that you have to be a woman to fight for [women’s] rights; I don’t think you need to be gay to fight for gay rights. And I don’t think you need to be Black to understand that this is the moment, for sure, for equality in the world. We all together have to fight for the human rights, all human rights, for equality.
WWD: Between this and the virus, have you had trouble focusing on work?
P.P.: I like to face reality and then deliver an idea of a reaction to a reality I don’t like. I am not a mirror of reality. I want to react to reality. I want something more dreamy, more emotional, more hopeful than what reality is. So it’s about watching reality and reacting to reality with something more positive and more hopeful, for sure. But I don’t want to be the designer alone in this room with flowers and candles and not face a reality. Because I hate that idea. I think that we have to meet the world.
Pierpaolo Piccioli photographs Mariacarla Boscono wearing a look from his upcoming resort collection.  Vanni Bassetti/WWD
WWD: Do you still believe in live shows after you see that there are other ways of doing things?
P.P.: I feel, yes, that the live show is important and it’s going to be something where people are linked together in one project. But I don’t know if it has to be a [traditional] show, a performance or something different. We are preparing something for couture which is not going to be a show but it’s going to be a live event. This is off the record, I believe. [What came next was.]…
I feel that you need the emotion of the moment, to share the emotion of the moment. Even if it’s not live in that moment, even if you’re not there, I think that you have to feel that intensity of the moment.
That’s why I’m shooting with Mariacarla in a very…almost voyeuristic way, so not a lot of structure but very personal. I have [worked with photographers], with my heroes of my childhood. And I felt that they were looking for the truth of the moment. Yes, there was a moment but you have to catch the moment, you have to feel in the moment. So probably also about a performance, a live show…there’s something about the moment, and you have to share with other people.
WWD: This will run shortly before couture. Can you tell me anything on the record about what you’re doing?
P.P.: While thinking of the couture, I have been thinking that it was impossible for sure to do the classic runway show. I felt that I didn’t want to do any compromise with a show. I didn’t like the idea of a show with closed doors, with the girls alone in a room and something like that. So I thought that it could be interesting to do something different, completely different. [An interjection from a p.r. took Piccioli back off the record.]
WWD: Sounds amazing.
P.P.: For me couture has to deliver positivity and emotion. So how could we deliver the same emotion of a show, but differently? So I wanted to create another moment, another thing, another story to deliver the dream of couture and the magic of couture.
WWD: Again, sounds amazing.
P.P.: Hopefully. It’s kind of hard.
WWD: It doesn’t sound easy.
P.P.: Not easy but fantastic. And when you see the dresses themselves there’s an emotional impact. I wanted that also in the pre-collection. That’s why I’m saying I want to be even more radical. If I have an intuition or something, I want to go deeper in that direction without any kind of — going very deep in that — the idea of intuition.
WWD: Without hesitation?
P.P.: Yes. The same for pre-collection. I decided to do that kind of work on simplifying, reducing shape to this elementary outline, using color as the definition of the shapes, and I went very direct, daring, simple.
WWD: What are you doing for men’s?
P.P.: The same. I’m thinking of shape. Because the shapes are elementary, and the [ideas] are good both for men and for women. Even if the shapes for men are different, it’s the same idea of freedom, the same idea of simplicity.
WWD: Simplicity, and…?
P.P.: There are tapestry motifs from the 16th and 18th centuries that we reworked in digital, reducing all the lines and recoloring in a different way. And then, something probably more closer to Valentino in the Sixties. I always loved Valentino when he was more daring, more provocative. At the beginning of his career, when he was more unpredictable for the clients.…But when you see [the clothes], you don’t define the era.
WWD: Back to fashion shows, some houses are saying that they’re committed to the traditional show schedule; some say they’ll do their own thing. Are you committed to the traditional fashion schedule for spring and fall?
P.P.: We are thinking to do the coed show, men and women, for September. That’s what we’re committed to. But I think we have to [look at] how we proceed.
WWD: Right now, are you more inclined to stick with the traditional schedule rather than show at a different time?
P.P.: I think it’s important to create a system. For September I am going to present a show that is men and women. We are not presenting during the Paris Men’s Fashion Week, nor digitally [then].
WWD: It’s still early to call for September but do you think you might have a limited audience at the show ?
P.P.: I think so, I think so. I don’t think that it’s going to be possible to have something like March or last October. We have to be very careful. And yes, I like also the intimacy of a show. I am thinking to do a different kind of show, completely different. In a way, this moment gave us the opportunity to rethink things and the system and collections and in a different way. I decided to be more radical and more extreme, for sure. So I’m thinking of a different kind of show and I will go in that direction.
WWD: And you expect that show will include some kind of an audience?
P.P.: Some kind of audience, yes. But with a different formula of show, not 1,000 people in one tent.
WWD: Until then, your personal diary with Mariacarla.
P.P.: I’d like to share with you the pictures when I have them, so we can talk more about the clothes. I’m interested to see what will happen [with the shoot].…Because now it’s an idea. Let’s see what happens.
