Something I would LOVE to read Murtagh saying to Vanir, who is not restraining himself with snide comments.
Murtagh: I’ve spent my entire life around nobles who look down at me for my parentage and social position. You are not a new challenge for me, Ambassador.
(Could be taken as fighting words I know, but dang I want something like this!)

OK, just because Murtagh is my favorite character, I desperately want him to meet Elva and hear what she did. I think he is going to be thoroughly amused that some high and mighty noble, even though Vanir’s an elf, got put in his place by a child! His logical mind might think that that was not the right time, place, or method to do that, but emotionally he wishes he was there to witness it.
Chapters: 1/1 Fandom: The Inheritance Cycle - Christopher Paolini Rating: General Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Characters: Nasuada (Inheritance Cycle), Elva (Inheritance Cycle), Vanir (Inheritance Cycle), Eragon Shadeslayer, Murtagh Morzansson, Original Characters Additional Tags: Comedy, We bully Vanir here sir, Nasuada is So Tired, Elva causes problems on purpose Summary:
Elva, much to Queen Nasuada’s chagrin, makes the elven ambassador cry during an important meeting with the urgals. Many years later, and important scientific breakthrough is made.
Hi! I wrote a dumb little thing based on Angela’s throwaway line in The Witch and also @saphira-approves hilarious headcanon about DNA proving elves and humans are the same. Enjoy!

I will always be so sad and angry that Eragon never recognized how horribly the elves treated him and that no one else helped protect him from it either. Oromis is so insidiously and inexcusably cruel to him and Eragon truly deserved the chance to escape that and see the damage he caused, and also to then beat Oromis into a bloody pulp. And Glaedr too, honestly. He's mostly gone unscathed in my past rants, largely because at least his personality isn't so insufferable, but he ain't shit either. He's fully complicit in all of Oromis's vile abuse, and adds to it himself in certain places. They more than earn Eragon's ire, but they all constantly belittle him and insist that they inherently know better than him about everything, and poor Eragon believes them, so he doesn't fight back. No!!! Every misgiving you have about them is true, and not only should you stand your ground, but you should also start maiming them!!!!!
Oromis's mannerisms are respectful, kind, and gentle, but they in no way indicate his actual feelings. It just serves as a guise, while their actions demonstrate that both he and Glaedr don't have a single shred of respect for Eragon. They don't trust him, they don't put faith in him, they don't care about his wellbeing, and they have so much contempt for him. And they do all that while they take everything from Eragon, demanding he sacrifice himself constantly, and not always just in the interest of beating the Empire! In some cases it's solely an expression of their resentment of him or a way to cut away at the parts of him they don't like.
And Eragon gives them everything, so earnestly and generously. Then they give him jack shit. They only give him whatever suits their intention to use him as a weapon, and even in that, they pick and choose things to withhold according to their disdain for him. Contempt is all he gets in return for his trust and loyalty.
And it makes me sad how Saphira isn't there for him in this. In her defense, she's very young and they harm her also by prioritizing her utility to them over anything else, which she sadly does not recognize either. But beyond that, the elves and Oromis and Glaedr specifically treat her far, far better than they treat Eragon. She's in no way responsible for their actions, but there are places where she enables the abuse. Most often through overlooking it, but sometimes when Eragon rightfully balks at their mistreatment, then turns to Saphira for her input, she tells him, "I trust them and I think you should be deferring to them."
Eragon is so earnest and compassionate and he deserves care, both in the form of other people caring about his wellbeing, and also through the chance for him to learn how he can and should care for himself. Yet at the end of the series, he's so conditioned to accept manipulation and abuse and I just want my poor boy to have a chance to rest and HEAL 😭

Have you ever thought about what life must be as an elf? To have all your basic needs met and having literally all the time in the world as you are an immortal being. At that point picking up a time-consuming hobby must become a necessity just to keep yourself from going insane

I know this probably isn't the case, but we're not here for canon facts, we're here for headcanons and comedy potential. So.
We know the treaty between elves and dragons not only affected the Riders, but also all elves; we also know they were described as "remarkably similar" to humans before this change.
I just think it'd be really funny if, one day in the far off future when scientific discovery is blooming, DNA is discovered and decoded and some biologists in a lab discover that actually humans and elves have been the same species the entire time.
I would also like to think that Eragon (who is still alive) tracks down Vanir (also still alive) to throw the published study in his face and then immediately point and laugh. My boy deserves it.

This kind of dialogue is how I imagine people lying to, or rather deceiving, one another in the Ancient Language. A criminal lack of this kind of doublespeak in elvish politics tbh.
Explanation: Palpatine had a world bombarded from orbit to destroy a bunch of cloning facilities to replace the clone soldiers with other troops, but the ships got filmed doing it. This is him turning the tables and getting what he wants. How it'd work in the Ancient Language:
"I am deeply troubled by this recent revelation." statement of fact, he's troubled it got leaked rather than by it's existence though.
"My gratitude to Senator (however you spell it) for exposing a rogue element within our ranks." he's happy she and her allies outed themselves.
"Many lives have been lost. But I assure you, Admiral Rampart will face the consequences for his treachery. However, he did not act alone." statement of fact, statement of fact, statement of fact.
"The fact that the clones under his command so blindly follow orders, inflicting such carnage without hesitation, gives me pause." possibly why he wanted to get rid of them in the first place, and otherwise he might have just been surprised by how effective the indoctrination (and in that canon, brain-chips) was.
"Perhaps... it is time for a change." perhaps, then again, perhaps not :)
I imagine this is how Galbatorix convinced the Forsworn to side with him as well; pick out people seething over real or imagined slights and go Palpatine them. It's also what I expected from how people hyped up the elves as these masters of wordplay in book 1 and early book 2.

Why are there only two Eragon/Vanir fanfics on AO3?? Does no one recognize the inherent eroticism of sword fighting rivals? Of a young elf as immature as the human he insults??? Can we not recognize that Vanir is more suitable than Arya in every way????? Do I have to do everything myself????

I’m not super familiar with the proper way of planning out characters, but I was thinking about how I would personally classify the characters of the inheritance cycle (the first 4 books) into sections. So here we go.
Main characters. Anyone we get a POV from or other characters that are critical for the main story drive to happen, in order of importance: Eragon, Saphira, Galbatorix, Nasuada, Arya, Roran,
Major Characters. Key characters for the story, who have important roles and connections to the main cast, in order of importance: Brom, Murtagh, Glaedr, Oromis, Durza, Angela, Elva, Orik, The Eldunari, Razac, Katrina, Morzan, Thorn,
Secondary Characters. Characters who have a moderate effect on the events of the story or motivations of the main cast, who we spend time with but aren’t super critical, in order of importance: Firnen, Shruikan, Umaroth, Hrothgar, Izlandi, Garrow, Orrin, Jeod, Solembum, Selena, Sloan, Ajihad, Nar Garzhvog, Ismira,
Minor characters: Characters who have some effect, may have multiple scenes dedicated to them, connections to other characters, but aren’t very important, in ANY ORDER: Horst, Grimrr halfpaw, Carn, Lord Dathedr, Blodgharm, Rhunon, Vermund, Jormundur. Varaug, The Head Priest of Helgrind, The Twins, Lord Barst. The Forsworn, The menoa tree, Hvedra,
Side characters: Characters who have a few small scenes scenes or are long dead characters who set up the world, IN ANY ORDER: Vrael, the first Eragon, Vanir, any carvahall villagers, any of the dwarven leaders not already mentioned, Blagden, Martland Redbeard, Captain Brigman, Trianna, Faolin, Jarnunvosk,
Extra characters. Pretty much anyone with a one or maybe two scenes or a connection to another character such as: Yarbog, Helen, Edric, Fredrick, Valdr, Cuaroc, Lord Fiolr, Elvas caretaker, Saphira (broms dragon) etc.
Background characters: anyone else, for example, random named soldiers, Maud, the young priest in helgrind, people who show up once as a part of another persons scene basically, or someone mentioned once or twice by other characters like Thuviel.
Is there anyone I missed? Do you disagree with some of the orders of importance I put people in for the first couple of paragraphs? (Murtagh fans are gonna come for me, but please remember I’m only doing the first 4 books) would love to hear everyone’s thoughts.

The excerpt from Eldest speaking of Murtagh before Eragon realizes it’s him.
Me: Is this possible foreshadowing? Or could be used as foreshadowing in a later book? 😏
Once Vanir learns that Murtagh is in Ilirea, he’s not going to pass up opportunities to insult Murtagh in his arrogant, air-thin veiled but diplomatic way.
More likely Murtagh’s going to have verbal rather than steel clashing exchanges with Vanir, but a girl can dream.
(The look on Vanir’s face when Murtagh can make up for lack of speed with technique.)

The fact that no one but saphira called vanir out for his attitude towards eragon is ridiculous like eragon is a child compared to him and he pushed him around because he was jealous

Do you think so little of my judgment, Eragon? You forget that when I was in my egg, Arya exposed me to each and every one of these elves—as well as many of the Varden’s children—and that I rejected them all. I wouldn’t have chosen someone to be my Rider unless they could help your race, mine, and the elves, for the three of us share an intertwined fate. You were the right person, at the right place, at the right time. Never forget that.

Is this progress? 🙊 But I'm still not very good at color 🤔
Made a redraw of Vanir from Eragon. So let's not forget to do it again next August.
