why do you do this to me……….dean spends all of 1x20-1x21 trying to get john alone and john refuses bc he’s so intent on his suicide mission. letting dean get his hopes up would be a cruelty, and it would just cloud his own judgment, make it harder to make the hard choices. but he does kiss him one last time in 2x01 <3

it's a judas kiss. soft and sweet until he pulls back and tells dean he may have to kill the brother whose safety was made his life's mission. betrayed that john would save him, just to stab him in the heart.

screaminggg and he would’ve DONE IT TOO like in another universe, you know dean is driving them down once a month to stalk adam a la stanford era. and sam would be like “dean you don’t even like this kid” but that’s irrelevant sam!! he’s john’s and that makes him mine!!!

dean winchester will see an unattended youth and go "is anyone going to reluctantly parent that?" and not even wait for an answer.

okay and then i had actually serious thoughts :')

dean was ~11 when adam was born, so for dean it's two betrayals. bc it's john having a kid who he doesn't drag into hunting like he does with sam & dean and allows to grow up "apple pie." but (iirc) john doesn't seek out a relationship with adam until sam leaves for stanford. so like. there's the betrayal of your father having a secret extra child and the betrayal of a partner leaving you to go play dad to their shiny new secret kid with a former partner. it's a deep and complicated wound and tbh, dean handles it pretty well and is warming up to adam before he finds out it's actually ghoul!adam. and once we get real adam in s5(?) he's referring to him as family/a brother even tho they have never actually met before. (extremely funny tbh when adam is like who tf are you??)

ALSO. i have a lot of thoughts regarding the symbolic classism of john taking adam to baseball games being very Traditional Apple Pie Americana vs later on in s11 we find out that john mostly took sam & dean to indie pro wrestling shows (my beloved) which in my personal experience has tended to be seen as low class/trashy. all extremely sad bc on its good days, pro wrestling is shakespeare in the squared circle. sports for theater kids who never did theater.

Oh my god, you know what Nonny? I read one a LONG time ago… It was so good, and apparently I’ve never bookmarked it. I just remember John was the vampire, and Sherlock found out about it by accident because John needed to feed (I don’t remember how) and Sherlock offered to be a blood donor but Sherlock was never turned because John didn’t want to curse him with it. He fed from Sherlock’s wrist. It was so long ago.

ANYWAY, other than that one, no I do not know of any VampireJohn fics… seems to be a rare thing! Can anyone rec any good Vampire!John fics?

okay but why would john let his boys anywhere near a demon?

saw some people criticising him for the fact that after everything they were still really unprepared for that demon in season 1 but like... if i were john and one had killed my wife and i was constantly destructively concerned for my sons' safety and it was 50/50 over whether or not one of them was the anti-christ, a demons would be the last thing i would ever introduce them to.

would that be a good decision? apparently not. but if i don't teach 'em about them, hopefully they won't go seeking any out.
