osctober day nineteen
prompt: immortal pairing: lando/oscar word count: 500w a/n: set in the sink your teeth into me universe :)
Here’s the thing Oscar’s been trying not to think about.
Werewolves have a prolonged life span. Something to do with their regenerative healing and just plainly the fact that they are supernatural beings meaning they live longer than the average human.
But Vampires. Vampires are immortal.
And so there will come a time that there will be an Oscar without Lando.
Of course, that’s still ages away. Years, decennia, a century, if they’re lucky. But he can’t help but feel like he has to cherish every moment he gets. Especially because there was a time, right after they’d met and he realized Lando was his soul bond, that he didn’t think he’d ever get to have this.
It’s rare, werewolf and vampire pairings. Rare enough that Oscar’s never met one. And he’s starting to understand more and more why. It’s not about the fact that werewolves and vampires are natural enemies, or that they’re incompatible, or that they hate each other. It’s because there’s something very tragic about two lovers who will eventually have to say goodbye and never, ever see each other again.
Lando’s life is going to end. Oscar’s life is never going to end.
“Whatcha thinking about,” Lando says, looking up from where his head was laying in Oscar’s lap, both of them stretched out on the couch, Oscar with his feet on the coffee table. “I can hear the gears grinding from here.”
There’s a soft afternoon light filtering in through the big windows of their apartment, the blackout curtains pushed open, and the light hit’s Lando’s face just so, turns his curls a warm brown shade, makes his eyes sparkle. Oscar and the sun have never agreed on much, with the whole vampire thing, but they can agree on this at least: Lando is the most beautiful thing this earth has ever seen.
“Nothing, much. Dinner plans, maybe,” Oscar says, gives in to the urge to burry his hands in Lando’s soft curls by twirling one of the strands around his fingers. Lando lets out a happy little hum and nudges his head against Oscar’s hand, so Oscar gives in and lets his hand run through Lando’s curls instead.
Lando hums happily. “Can we order from that one place? With the-“ He makes a vague little hand gesture.
“Yeah, sure,” Oscar says. “I’ve been craving Vietnamese.”
“Neat,” Lando says, and then leans into Oscar’s hand a little more.
Lando’s eyes flutter close, his breath evens out. Oscar watches the slow steady rise and fall of his chest, listens to the soft little snuffling noises he makes in his sleep, commits them all to memory.
Someday, this will leave him, and he will be left, cold and alone. But for now, he will cherish every single moment he gets, no matter how small.

everything in-between on ao3
landoscar/4.3k words
Oscar has a pretty smile, Lando notices. It stretches all over his soft features and makes his eyes crinkle, sharp teeth poking out from underneath his top lip. Lando’s eyes narrow as he lets his gaze wander over Oscar. From his brushed back hair, over his pale skin down to the white linen shirt peeking out underneath the heavy cape.
“Cool costume,” Lando smirks. “Very chic. For a vampire.”
Oscar chuckles a little dryly and starts staring at his shoes. “Thanks, mate,” he says then. “I’m serious,” Lando reassures him and Oscar looks up again. “It looks good. Especially the, uh,” he loosely gestures towards Oscar’s face, cheeks reddening underneath the facepaint. “Your teeth. They look very real.”
Something in Oscar’s look shifts. Just slightly, if even. Lando thinks he imagined it, blames it on the addictingly sweet drinks and Oscar’s pretty smile. But then Oscar cocks his head, eyebrows raised. “You think so?” He asks. And he smiles, open-mouthed, white teeth on full display. Oscar even has the audacity to dart his tongue out, swipes it over the pointy canine and Lando is – well, Lando feels fucking mesmerised during all that.
And it’s a strange feeling. Like he’s giving in to something and he’s not sure if he likes it.

Propaganda
Sophia Loren (Marriage Italian Style, Houseboat)—Major Italian star, first actress to win an Oscar for a performance not in English (for Two Women (1960)) and later when Roberto Benigni won an Oscar in 1999 he jumped over the chairs towards the stage going "Sophia Sophia!!" because he was running towards Sophia Loren and said he cared more about her than the Oscar, that's the effect she had on people. She was big in the 60s already even though she gained a lot more notoriety after that. And I mean. Can we take a moment and just.
Pola Negri (The Wildcat, Men, A Woman Commands)—Legally obliged to submit her as she's from Poland, but also it is one of the greatest stars of silent film, both in Hollywood and Europe, so she has to be here. The og femme fatale and a fenomenal dramatic actress. And just so hot in this 1920s vamp style. Obviously her career slowed down in America with the introduction of sound movies, because of her accent and low voice. I'd say her voice is so much hotter thanks to that, but I'm just a simple simp. But then she made movies in Germany, and after the war she was even offered Gloria Swanson's role in "Sunset Boulevard'' but she declined. She was probably bisexual as after romances with Charlie Chaplin and Rudolf Valentino in the 20s, since the 1940s she lived with her 'female friend'.
This is round 4 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.

Sophia Loren:
She has maxed out all her stats: beauty, elegance, sensuality, she's got it all. her mesmerizing eyes, her sensual mouth, her sharp face shape, her everything is so striking and unlike any other beauty in films. she was also voted the world most beautiful woman when she was freaking 65
im submitting her in honor of my dad bc she was the first celebrity crush of his he ever admitted to me and my sister :) and he was right. shes so pretty
OSCAR WINNER. Worked with some of the hottest leading men in Hollywood but remained faithful to her husband whom she had a loving marriage with till he died (even though Cary Grant almost tempted her once, it's complicated)
One of the most well-known sex symbols of the Golden Age of Hollywood, and unlike some unfortunate others, she seems to have been pretty well at peace with occupying that status. She made assertiveness and a tempestuous temper seem glamorous, and although she's famous for side-eying Jayne Manisfield's cleavage, honestly? She's one to talk.
Absolutely, drop-dead sexy, also a hard working, extraordinarily talented actress who didn't shy away from the less glamorous roles to gift us some gritty, memorable performances
Submitting this on behalf of my dad, who knows nothing of tumblr or this blog, but I remember being a kid watching Houseboat while my mom thirsted after Cary Grant, dad thirsted after Sophia Loren, and I was excited that they lived on a boat. Anyway, she's extremely beautiful and was an international star, doing a ton of movies in Italy before being recognized in the US.
JUST LOOK AT HER Y'ALL
Very smart and beautiful, the characters that she played (I mean those in the movies that I put in the previous question) are as strong and determined as her which I think adds to her hotness.
Global superstar and my late grandfather's long time movie star crush and for a man as quiet as he was, and as hopelessly devoted to his wife as he was, the fact that I know that means she was EXCEPTIONAL.
Big in the chest, snatched in the waist, pretty in the face 😳
Sexy, beautiful, deep. A real star.
Her performance in "Man of La Mancha" is just so very captivating. Dubbed as "the Italian Marilyn Monroe", she looks beautiful in any movie and at any age.
Forget the exotic sexpot of her Hollywood films and go back to her Italian career: sparking with Marcello Mastroianni as the woman who drives him mad and outwits all his fumbling attempts at macho posturing in their early films, and showing a tender side in their 1970s films. Sophia isn’t self-conscious about who she is or her beautiful body: she enjoys being herself and she wants us all to enjoy ourselves too.
She starred in films as a sexually emancipated persona and was one of the best known sex symbols of the time. She is a great cook and her filmography is immense.
On the misattributed quote that Sophia owed everything to spaghetti: 'Did you actually say the quote frequently attributed to you, "Everything you see I owe to spaghetti"?' "Non è vero! It's not true! It's such a silly thing. I owe it to spaghetti, no, no. Completely made up."
Pola Negri:
A tempestuous green-eyed vamp of the silent screen, she tantalized with both her onscreen and offscreen romances. Rocked a Polish accent - well, once there was sound! A true proficient at promoting herself and using all possible tools to do so - from a dead Rudolf Valentino to a cheetah named Teddy, the latter of which she brought to a press conference.
First European actress to be contracted by Hollywood! She survived poverty and illness to become The Queen of Tragedy, she divorced a count to date stars like Charlie Chaplin and Rudolph Valentino, then spent the rest of her life living with Margaret West in what could have been a romantic relationship.
I don't have much to say about her actual career, personal life, etc. but I just need everyone to see how hauntingly beautiful her face is. I haven't been able to stop thinking about her since the first time I saw her LOL like its pretty clear why she was such a star

Musical Monday: A Carol Channing Tribute
Well, a much-deserved break from the Tony losers is called for in order to honor a Broadway icon. Carol Channing was not just beloved by the Broadway community, but a shining, exuberant presence in all entertainment. Her legacy will certainly live on beyond her 97 years of blessing this earth. With that, let’s take a peak at her glorious career.
Dates: Ms. Channing was born January 31, 1921 and passed away January 15, 2019.
Shows and Roles: Ms. Channing made her Broadway debut in October 1941 as an understudy in the musical comedy, Let’s Face It! It wouldn’t belong until she began creating roles, first with Proof Thro’ the Night, followed by the musical revue, Lend an Ear. In 1949, she would take a star bow as Lorelei Lee in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. In 1954, she would enter Wonderful Town as a replacement for the role of Ruth. This was soon followed by another star turn, this time in the very short-lived The Vamp, as Flora Weems. Show Girl followed, which enjoyed an eight-month run on Broadway. It would be in 1964, in case anyone didn’t know Ms. Channing yet, that should create Mrs. Dolly Gallagher Levi in the original production of Hello, Dolly!; a role she would later reprise on tour and on Broadway in 1978 and 1995. In between Dollys, she was in a play of one-acts, Four on a Garden, as well as Lorelei Lee in the musical, Lorelei. Besides Dollys, she toured in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Wonderful Town, Sugar Babies, Jerry’s Girls, and Legends!
Accolades: Ms Channing was recognized with the 1949 Theatre World Award for her performance in Lend an Ear. She won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her role in Hello, Dolly! 1968 brought her a special Tony Award, and in 1995 she was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Tony Award.
Film and Television: She received an Oscar nomination in 1968 for her role as Muzzy in Thoroughly Modern Millie. She played Grandmama Addams in the 1993 season of The Addams Family television series. Ms. Channing’s bright personality and iconic voice-type has been preserved on numerous recordings and filmed performances.
I’m sure Heaven just got a little brassier and louder with Ms. Channing’s presence, and I hope she is singing nightly. It is my thought that St. Luke greeted her with a deep, sincere, warm, “Hello, Dolly. It’s so nice to have you back where you belong.”
Break a leg, Ms. Channing. You were one of the great ones.

Another member of a beloved Japanese punk band decides to call it quits, but King Baby Duck has a lot more to be pissed about. With the announcement of this year's Oscar nominations, our host points out a massive snub in one of its categories (and no, it's not the one you're thinking of)! Then the winter series Gabriel DropOut has some points taken off due to its lack of quantity in the laugh-out-loud department, whereas Akiba's Trip shows how to properly do a video game adaptation right without just copying and pasting the game story itself. Finally, network TV comedies gets a talking to about how to not be as formulaic as it has been these last few years.

Gene Tierney (Laura, The Ghost and Mrs Muir, Leave Her to Heaven)— The class, the elegance. The way she walks into frame and immediately all focus is on her. She had a pretty lengthy struggle with mental health that she describes in her book, which I think made her all the more sensitive in portraying characters like in leave her to heaven. Also she dumped JFK so
Nina Mae McKinney (Hallelujah, Pie Pie Blackbird, The Devil’s Daughter)—One of the first black movie stars, Nina worked with Bill ‘Bojangles’ Robinson, King Vidor, and Paul Robeson. She was the first Black Actress to be signed to one of the major studios, MGM, but her career was stalled by a lack of roles.
This is round 3 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.

Gene Tierney:
64.media.tumblr.com
The entire plot of Laura is that a guy has to become completely obsessed with a woman after just seeing her portrait. This only works because Gene was cast in the role. I 10000% believe anyone could fall in love after seeing her face.
Those eyes! Just look at those eyes! She’s at her hottest in Leave Her To Heaven— I literally want her to ruin my life.
Absolute grade-A babe, she is the perfection incarnate.
Gene Tierney was beautiful, poised, intense. I associate her with roles where she was murderous or an intelligent woman being patronized to - like a woman on the edge! As far as I am concerned, she deserved to do whatever she wanted.
64.media.tumblr.com
She had a slight overbite which was amazingly sexy, and a throaty voice that was very memorable as well. She’s terrific in Laura, which reminds me I should watch it again.
EYES!! Her diabolical acting in Leave Her to Heaven is just perfect, Rosamund Pike definitely took notes for her Gone Girl from her.
Oscar-nominated and simply one of the most beautiful women to ever walk this Earth.
Absolutely stunning. In Leave Her to Heaven, she reaches Rosamund-Pike-in-Gone-Girl levels of “holy fucking shit?!?!?!” She had a fling with JFK in the ‘40s and also dated the exes of Rita Hayworth and Hedy Lamarr (Prince Aly Khan and W. Howard Lee, respectively). Sadly, her daughter was born with a disability (during a time in which there were few good mainstream options for disabled children and their parents), likely because of a fan who was sick with measles and went out of her way to meet Tierney (who was pregnant) anyway. Topical! Sure would be good if people stayed home when they were sick! Anyway, she was also a Republican, which sucks. Laura and Leave Her to Heaven are great viewing though.
Nina Mae McKinney:
Hollywood's first Black vamp, and have you seen her dance? 👀
She has such delicate features and such a delightfully impish smile
