Something that really interests me about League lore is how the Void could possible spread and open rifts in any region, we know it's already in Shurima, Ixtal, the Freljord, and near Nami's tribe (which I'm pretty sure is near Targon) but eventually it will spread and start affecting other regions, and I'm really curious what would happen if it spread to Ionia. I know the region's lore is already busy with its war against Noxian invaders (altho, the possibility of repeating the mistakes of Icathia while defending themselves is both genius and terrifying) but with Ionia having such strong ties to the spirit realm and the Void essentially be anti-magic, how would the land react to a void rift opening there? How badly would the mere presence of the Void destroy the balance of Ionia? How would characters like Shen or Karma defend their home from a threat like that?

But because I'm me, the thing I wanna see most is just how Rhaast and Varus would react

Chapter 8: I will not Disappoint You

Summary: Thresh yells at Kayn and his friends for not keeping an eye on Jinx and Ekko. Aphelios feel weird by the gift that Jinx gave him and decides to ask Evelynn on the voice.

February 1st, 2:14 P.M. - Thresh Co.

"YOU BASTARD!! HOW DARE YOU LET THOSE BRATS SAVE JANNA!!" Thresh was holding Kayn by his shirt, he learned that Kayn and his buddies went to The Pentakill concert which it was the chance for Janna to escape.

"Who the f*ck is Janna?" Kayn asks Thresh and he grunts. "I should teach you guys about my connections with other companies."

Thresh put down Kayn and looks at him and his friends with a glare. "Hope you guys don't make the same mistakes again" Thresh leaves and close the door.

As the boys left Thresh's office, Kayn stops walking as Rhaast, Varus, and the lovers stops. "Are you okay Kayn, you seemed...different," Varus said as Kayn pulls out his bubblegum and starts chewing.

"I just got pissed at Mr.Skin and Bones himself, I was happy that I got my van, until he ruined my d-" Kayn stops talking as Aatrox appear.

"Rhaast, Varus, I need you two,"

"Why?" Both of them asked. "I need help about the design for the lobby of the hotel, I don't know about decorations, can you help me?" Rhaast and Varus looked at each other and sighed.

"Yes, Aatrox," they both left with their brother. Kayn looked at Valmar and Kai, as they both went to the waiting room. "I need both of your help," Valmar and Kai looked at each other, and then to Kayn.

"Will I have a good future?" Kayn ask, as they both hold their laughter. "We're not fortune tellers Kayn, maybe you can be k-" Kayn stand up, and left the building.

"What's wrong with him?" Valmar ask, and Kai shrugged.

"Who knows,"

February 1st, 4:21 P.M. - Kayn's House

"F*CK!!" Kayn throws his stuff from his desk and Rhaast has to stop him. "Calm the f*ck down Kayn!! Zed is going to hear you!!" Kayn calms down and lay down on his bed.

"I need a cigarette....." Rhaast pulls out a box of cigarettes and Kayn grabs it and turned on and starts smoking. "How's your brother's company?" Kayn asks while smoking.

"Same thing, I refuse to help him since I'm focusing on my music career,"

"I see..." Kayn turns off his cigarette with his ash tray and gives the cigarette butt to Rhaast. "How about you Kayn?" Rhaast asks, Kayn sigh and looks at the ceiling. "I don't know Rhaast...Zed wants me to become a police officer, but is not the career that I want."

"Then what career do you want?" Rhaast asks Kayn. "I have to figure it out by myself," Kayn stand up from his bed and smile at him.

"Rhaast...you may be an annoying b*tch, but your a great friend, thank you," Kayn smiled at Rhaast and he smiled at him back.

"Your welcome Kayn" Rhaast got up from Kayn's bed, and left.

Kayn put some earbuds to listen to his music, until the shadow appears. "Alone again?" Kayn turned and saw the shadow, and sigh. "Why are you here?" he asked as the shadow grins and place their fingers on his forehead.

Kayn saw a vision that is coming to his life, from someone will appeared in his life, abandoning Zed, and meeting new friends. He came back to reality, and noticed the shadow is gone, he grabbed a pack of cigarettes, but he decide not to smoke, and sigh.

"What are those visions....."

February 1st, 3:23 P.M. - Center Plaza Hospital

"The reason your voice sounds like your in helium, is because Powder made a device to help you with your damage vocal cords, not only can speak like a normal person, but also you can change the tone of your voice as well," Ekko explained while Aphelios shakes in fear.

"What should I do Ekko!? I don't want to stay like this forever!!" Aphelios yells at Ekko while everyone laughs at him.

"First of all, calm down and second of all, let me explain," Aphelios calmed down and he decides to listen to Ekko.

"Remember the security that Ez installed it?" Aphelios nods at Ekko's question. "He also installed an app for the jewelry piece you wore," Aphelios unlocked his phone and scrolled to find the app that Ekko said and found the app that has a blue diamond icon.

He opens the app and saw the app. "Press the earring icon," he pressed the earring icon and he hears Senna, Veigar and Evelynn's voice.

"What should I do guys? I don't want to stay mad at him forever....."

"Give him a second chance Evelynn, the poor guy is still recovering from Thresh's abuse,"

"I agree with Senna, Lady Evelynn,"

Aphelios turned off the earring function and press the ring icon. He saw Ezreal at the screen of his phone and records and close the app. "Now Ez, wave at Phel and Phel, you tap the gem of the ring two times, got it?" they nodded as Ezreal waves at Aphelios and he tap the ring two times. He opens the app again and saw the video of Ezreal waving at him.

"Now record again, but this time Ez, say hi to Phel, ok?" They nodded and they tried again. "Hi Phel!!" Ezreal greets Aphelios and he tapped the ring two times. He checked the video and saw Ez waving and saying hi.

"It worked!!" Ezreal jumps and hugged Aphelios. "Now for the necklace," Aphelios pressed the necklace icon and saw the options it has and the adjustment.

"How about this?" he asked and they started laughing. "You sound like Teemo!!" Ezreal laughs at Aphelios and Akali punch his shoulder.

"Just ignore him Phel, continue," Aphelios change his voice again. "How about this?" he asked them and they shook their heads. He tried so many times and most of them ended up sounding like a girl, chipmunk or even Kayn which Ezreal got turned on.

"I gave up," Aphelios signed and leaves. Akali tries to chase him but Ezreal stopped her. "He need his time Kal," Akali sigh and decides to listen to Ezreal.

Aphelios went to the water cooler to drink some water until Veigar appears. "Phel, Lady Evelynn wants to see you," Aphelios was surprised what Veigar said, and he went to Evelynn's hospital room and saw her.

"What do you want?" he asked her and she sigh. "I have to apologize for yelling at you, is just..."

"I know...Veigar told me about the scar I gave you, I'm sorry," Aphelios signed and he went to Evelynn. Evelynn hugs Aphelios and he caught by surprise by her. "I know your scared Dal, but as I told you, your not alone, you have us," Evelynn smiled at Aphelios and he started crying.

"And Veigar, I'll have a word with you after this," Evelynn glares at Veigar and he nodded nervously. "Eve, I need a favor to ask you?"

"What is it?" Aphelios explained to Evelynn about the voice changer and he request which voice suit him and she agrees. He gave his phone to Evelynn and decides to play with it, until she find the best voice for Aphelios.

"All done, now speak," Evelynn said and Aphelios opened his mouth.

"How is it?" Evelynn gasp and hugs Aphelios. "Is perfect, just like a gentleman," Aphelios smiled at Evelynn for giving him a voice that he always wanted and shed tears of happiness.

"Thanks, mom"

Aphelios put his phone away, and went to Akali, Ezreal and Yasuo. "It was Hwei?" Akali ask, and Aphelios nodded.

"Yes, he gave more info about Solene, but we have to wait about Zeri," Aphelios said as Ezreal looked at his phone, and saw something. "Hey guys!! Check this out!!" Ezreal shows Akali and Aphelios about a post online.

"The Dream World?" Akali raised her eyebrow. "Yes, legend says that if two people sleep on the same time in different timezones, they will meet in the Dream World," Ezreal explained as Yasuo brought ramen for the three of them as dinner.

"I don't think so kid, is just rumors to gain popularity, is like one of those ghost stuff that see on shorts," Yasuo said as he went back to the kitchen to clean the dishes.

"Yasuo is right Ez, maybe is some false rumors or something, let's eat, I don't want to eat cold ramen," Akali said as the three of them eat their ramen.

Meanwhile

Someone was watching Sett and Aphelios in their respective lives, and she smiled at them.

"Well well, why do I have here?" she said while looking at her crystal ball, and she went to her garden and see two roses: one red, and one white.

I've had many discussions on theories behind why Rhaast can't/won't immediately kill Kayn, but the idea that Darkin use negative emotions to take over a host has never occured to me but it's really intriguing, since like you said, the Darkin's minds have been corrupted by trauma and negativity so it makes sense for them to corrupt their hosts by corrupting them the same way.

But Kayn, as a child soldier, has basically been raised by trauma, so much that he can't tell the difference between love and hate, and due to the shadow magic working very similar to your theory on darkin corruption Kayn has experience in fighting off his dark thoughts.

So what is Rhaast left to do when the person he's trying to kill is another soul just as broken by war as he is? Kayn and Rhaast are the exact same and exact opposite in many ways. Kayn is blue, he is the mental, and he's powered by the night. Rhaast is red, he is the physical, and he's powered by the sun. But in the end their stories are the same: a soldier being sent into a battle they should've never been forced to fight and never recovering from the mental scars of that event.

I would really love to see a form of themselves where they work together and maybe even help each other to move on.

I've started re-watching the Venom movies recently

It got me thinking about Kayn and Rhaast's relationship in canon, and how for some odd reason Kayn is the only darkin host that wasn't corrupted immediately upon holding the weapon for the first time, and is still fighting against the corruption. Is it true that Kayn is just THAT powerful and Rhaast is the current weakest darkin? Or perhaps there's more to them than we realize?

What I think might be the case is a combination of factors mentioned previously and something else, which I'll talk about in this post so pls stay with me 🙏

Okok so, in Venom (2018) we see how Venom and Eddie meet, how at first they're really just parasite and host, but then after seeing how much they're alike Venom gives everything up. Venom was a nobody amongst the others, just like Eddie, who has lost everything previously. They achieved symbiosis because they are the same, pretty much, and they are so goddamn special that not even Riot (ha) could take them down (with some help of course, love my girl Anne).

THAT got me thinking about Hwei's voice line, the one in which he says "If you just allowed yourselves to BLEND". It's a very interesting line, we can think about some possibilities but first we discuss exactly why Kayn hasn't been corrupted yet (I know I'm rambling a bit, sorry lol)

So, it could be that he really is that powerful, he has been training since childhood (he had a pretty rough one, too). At some point Zed took him in and Kayn became a powerful weapon/tool (parallels!! Kayn being used as a weapon and Rhaast being one, literally) and with his tragic backstory and some other voice lines (this time from Swain, I believe) we know that Kayn, after all he's been through, mistakes hatred for affection, since all he knows is negative, bad things.

So Kayn is traumatized, who isn't? Well, I know for sure the darkin have a very sad past too so let's talk about them (and Rhaast, of course) next

The darkin, once ascended, fought against The Void and each other for some time. The things they've seen and been through cost them their minds, with the years they became less of who they once were, some corrupted beyond redemption and the only way to stop this war was with imprisonment, so that's what happened. Many died, with the remaining ones being sealed away in weapons. Inside their prison they cannot breathe (that's why they sound very out of breath, I was happier before knowing about that) or scream, or do anything really, it's another void, much like the first they fought.

So imagine, after years of being trapped inside a tiny space, some guy finds you and, unlike the others, there's a barrier blocking your way inside their mind. This one is different, that's for sure, but Rhaast is a darkin, he will break this host one day...

But this day seems further and further away, the barrier still strong. Could it be that Rhaast is weaker than the others, or perhaps their tactic of corrupting minds away just doesn't work on Kayn? Well, like I previously talked about, both Kayn and Rhaast have a tragic backstory. my guess is that Rhaast and the other darkin use negative emotions/memories in order to break the host's mind, the pain unbearable to them. But Kayn? Negative emotions/memories is ALL he has, all he ever had, so this method couldn't possibly be the most effective to use, right?

Kayn is stronger than most, sure, but he wasn't immediately corrupted because he is barely affected by Rhaaat's tactics, which consist of breaking the mind with bad memories and emotions, which unfortunately for him is all Kayn knows. It DOES affect him a bit, for all we know, but we can't exactly expect him to be 100% immune, he's still human 🤷‍♀️

We don't know how things are going for them currently, if anyone's winning yet. I actually don't think that's ever happening, because 1. They would break the fucking champion; 2. Is it truly a win if they're just gonna miss each other's company after? (Rhaast presumably doesn't care but that can change, I mean just look at Varus). They would be more powerful, sure, but they only have each other, and with time I think they can be stronger together, they can find a way to get what they both want AND stay together.

ANYWAY what do y'all think? I know I started talking about Venom and Eddie and ended up somewhere else entirely but I just needed to ramble about them, get some ideas in order. Also correct me if I said anything wrong lore-wise, been awhile since I've read about them

My Theories for what each Darkin was as an Ascended

(to preserve my sanity, i'm only gonna talk about the main 5 darkin, which are all the darkin champions and xolaani, and i'll put them in order starting with the one with the most supporting evidence and the going down to the ones that i purely made up)

Xolaani: Bird

We already know this one, we can see her statue in The Call cinematic and you can see feathers on her chest and a bird-like head shape. We can't tell what exact kind of bird she was, but she was definitely avian.

Aatrox: Angel

First off, it's never said that Ascended have to be based on animals. Every fan interpretation I see of Valeeva, a Darkin described in Twilight of the Gods, looks like a humanoid with venomous spines, so Ascended beings could theoretically also be humanoids with extra apendages (like Valeeva's spines or Aatrox's wings) but are just more commonly animals.

Second, we know Aatrox is trying to morph his vessel into looking as close to his former appearance as possible and it's implied he envies Kayle since she resembles himself as an Ascended. Kayle is an angelic human with wings, plus I feel Aatrox would try to reform himself with animal traits if he had them, but instead he looks, again, like a human with wings. Also there's the metaphors with Darkin being fallen gods, and the Darkin (mostly Aatrox and Rhaast) looking like demons, and that fits the trope of the fallen angel, you get the point, Aatrox is basically meant to be Satan so it works for him to be a corrupted angel.

Rhaast: Goat

This is one I've seen a few other people headcanon, and it comes from one of Kayn's taunts as the Shadow Assassin where he calls the enemy a "two-legged goat" which is so oddly specific and I can't find anything it could be referencing, so the theory is he's taunting his opponent by comparing them to Rhaast, who as SA, Kayn has already defeated. I would also like to mention that Kayn's baggy pants paired with Rhaast's hooved feet and horns give him a satyr-like silhouette.

On the more symbolic side, goats are often associated with the devil (again, Darkin are based off demons) and to death and the occult in a similar way a scythe is despite both being common things found on a farm; they both seem innocent until put in the right contexts, which is perfectly ironic for a violent being like Rhaast.

Varus: Lizard

In his short comic, we see a vague fanged head that wasn't shown when just Kai and Valmar walked these same stairs, so some theorized that this is what Varus looked like before being trapped. To me, the head looks most like it's reptilian. He could also be a snake or even a dragon, but in Runeterra we already have a snake Ascended with Naganeka and a humanoid dragon with Shyvana so I went with a lizard since it felt the most unique.

Naafiri: Feline

I remember seeing some people guess she used to be a cat when one of her teasers said that her becoming a hound was "ironic", and felines are seen as the opposite of canines. That's pretty much where the evidence ends, I'm just going based off vibes that maybe she was a big cat like a panther or a tiger.
