Some crazy Ponniyin Selvan prompts
• Poonkuzhali joins Pandya Aabathudavigal.
Some time ago, some people from the Pandya country came here. They wanted me to help them wreak vengeance on the royal family which had betrayed my aunt. It was then that I heard my aunt's story. My blood began to boil and I decided to join them. Later, I came to know how my aunt felt about all this. . . . Then I abandoned the idea of joining hands with the Pandya group. As you said my aunt's love is really divine. But mark my words, I won't be like her. If any Prince tries to deceive me I'll take revenge. I'll kill him. I'll also kill the woman who steals him from me. Then I'll stab myself and die.
• Vanathi joins Buddha monastery for real.
Vanathi went on: "Yes! I've decided to become a Buddhist sanyasini. Why do you object to that? Weren't there many women in ancient Tamil Nadu who became ascetics? Did not Madhavi's daughter, Manimekalail, become an ascetic and attain divinity and don't we praise her now as the Goddess Manimekalai? I have no such aspirations. I tried to end my useless life, but failed in the attempt. Perhaps it is God's wish that I live a little longer. I want to join a Buddhist monastery and spend my time serving people. You won't refuse to help me, will you?"
• Chinna Pazhuvettaraiyar Kalanthaka Kandar adopts Vanthiyathevan.
Let's wait, he thought, until my older brother returns. We can find out about him then and do whatever is best. A warrior like him should be inducted into our private bodyguard. Even a portion of his ancestral kingdom could be given back to him. Helping boys like this will bind them to us and ensure their loyalty. But if he's proved an enemy, we'll have to make other plans. Let's wait for my brother, anyway. We’ll see.
• Poonkuzhali fakes her death and runs away from the palace.
The court politics and the never ending scheming are so tiring and infuriating. She doesn't like Senthan as much as thought and Emperor Senthan is the most eligible married man in the country. She runs away, to embrace the waves once again.
• Manimegalai thinks 'ponal pogattum poda' (let it go) and starts to manage the affairs of Sambuvarayar clan when Kandan Maran is away on border patrol.
She is totally embarassed about her emotional outburst about a man who doesn't like her, that too to the woman he actually loves.
• Parthipendra Pallavan and Manimegalai decide to get married out of spite and plot the end of Vanthiyathevan and Kundavai.
Yeah, I made that up. I am crazy.
If anyone writes anything, please tag me so that my evil heart can rejoice 😏

Hey guys! This is my collab with the awesome @nspwriteups - modern, corporate AU! KunxVT
Sudden Sparks✨✨
It was just another day at the Chola corp. household.
They were a successful family run MNC with interests in a wide range of sectors like agriculture, industries, hospitality etc
Kriti's dad Sundar, the CEO, was feeling his age of late and really looked forward to that retirement mansion in the Seychelles-and she agrees. Her mom Vani was the perfect chaebol wife, keeping up social connections and coordinating the multiple companies.
Kriti and her dad’s best friend Anirudh – the chief legal advisor- have been running the show for the last few years.
She was truly appa’s pride, surpassing him in all aspects. It grieved him greatly that his great-grandfather, the founder, had willed the ownership only to sons in order of age.
Her hothead big bro Aditya made their dad age rapidly, as he was a mess through his teens and 20s- oscillating between therapy and overdrinking. His stubbornly insisted on marrying a regular girl Nandini- who oddly resembled his own ex. Huh! Like father like son
Girls like that just won’t fit in our circle, they all thought. Kriti and her great aunt Seema all disapproved and tried to bribe her away. But the young couple stood firm even through separation. Sundar gently explained his doubts to his son, who cockily returned with a DNA test proving his concern false.
Aditya became the chief of mergers and acquisitions, knowing a good takeover when he sees one. Nandini proved to be just as capable as herself (although she’d never say it aloud), smartly planning the legal aspects of her husband’s activities. Nothing gave the couple more joy than sleuthing and negotiating hard bargains, even with the most hostile businesspeople.
However, it is her darling boy Arun who is the all time favourite. Everyone from the janitor to the executive board loves him.
He started off as a cute intern, now he’s their PR face. Journalists flock to just see him smile. He’s been seeing Vinita, the junior at R&D in an office romance that’s the company’s worst kept secret. She rolled her eyes at her fastidious little brother. He was first very stiff with Vinita, the niece of their South zone president, because everyone wanted to get the two heirs together. He slowly fell for her, but tried very hard to hide it – much to kriti’s amusement. The longer than necessary waiting by the coffee machine, the abnormally frequent dropping of papers ( only for the other to come running for ‘help’) fooled no one, she chucked.
She laid back in the plush orange recliner in her living room. Her apartment was well decorated although she lived alone. Her brother and Anni lived in the floor above with their daughter, Kriti jr. Yes Kriti’s ego was greatly flattered by her namesake niece and she became nicer to her sister in law due to it.
Her brother lived in a cottage next door, with a large courtyard and her parents lived in a mansion next door to their company HQ
They had their usual Friday night entertainments. All except Kriti. She’d have occasional movie nights with Vinita and her other mates, poojas with seema paati and family birthday dinners.
She was happy to be the hustler for her family. She loved being swept by complex problems and solving them. She took pride in being their ‘brains’, not once regretting her cold demeanor or workaholic attitude.
Lately though, seeing her brothers' relationships left a pang in her stomach. Cousin Sandeep too was seeing Pooja, their coordinator for offshore branches.
Kriti blankly stared at the ceiling she’d seen a million times before. Smooth peach walls, a bronze ceiling fan and wall moulding on all sides. Her laptop glared, asking her to get back to work before the Monday noon deadline. Uncle Anirudh won’t like me slacking, she sighed and sat up. The IT girl of Chola corp can’t disappoint!
She began reading through the document sent by the budget team, noting where to edit or add comments. It was pretty linear, except this time some reps of their rival was out scouting start ups and releasing bad predictions for Chola’s next quarterly.
Enthusiastic footsteps and tinkling of metal made kriti exhale and go “gosh! Again?’.
Friday nights usually meant the same for her, her older brother and nandini would usual drop off her niece as they went off on their mandatory dates. There’s no way those 2 randy creatures have been together for 2 decades now, she groaned.
Kriti was soft, everyone knew most of her
evenings were spent working and she had a huge weakness for her niece.
She would often play sitter for Kriti jr. and Timmy (Arun and vinita's dog). She was just grateful Arun didn't make her babysit Airavat, the rescue elephant he adopted!
This time though, work was getting tight. She had to sort out Chola corp 's finances while also figuring who was spreading bad predictions for their stock.
Her train of thoughts was disrupted by the doorbell ringing. She knew who the visitors were and put on the best fake smile she could when she opened the door to see her brother and sister in law with a five year old girl in Nandini's arms. "I was hoping you forgot about your Friday routine" She said in mock annoyance. "Well actually I did ask my best friend to babysit Kriti jr here since I know how much of a busybody you are" Adithya told her, pinching his daughter's cheek as he spoke while Kriti frowned. A best friend of Adithya's that she hasn't met yet? Now that's odd. "We asked him to come here so you can have an extra hand to take care of her" Nandini joined in, kissing her daughter's forehead and handing her over to Kriti who was still wondering about this mysterious "friend" who is apparently a familiar face to everyone but one she hasn't heard about at all.
"He can be trusted Kriti. Why else would I entrust the safety of my beloved sister and daughter to him?" Adithya said after seeing a look of uncertainty on Kriti's face.
After Adithya and Nandini left them, Kriti turned to her niece sitting on the couch, "So my dear sugarplum, what will we do now?" Kriti jr ran to the showcase and took out board game from the drawer. They played the game for a while, watched Tom and Jerry on the tv. Kriti looked over at the clock. It's been half an hour since she started babysitting. Where was this so called trusted friend who was supposed to give them company? She contemplated on calling up Adithya and give him a piece of her mind but then she didn't wanted to interrupt theie date night. "Best friend…Trusted indeed" She muttered "He's going to ghost me for sure"
"Ugh! Why can't I stick to one decision? Now I'll have to host a stranger" she inwardly groaned
Kriti jr looked up at her aunt "Why are you angry Aunty?" She squeaked
"How do you know I am angry?" Kriti enquired
"Because Amma says you murmur when you are upset. So I know you are angry" the little girl said as a matter of fact. Kriti laughed, how well Nandini knows her.
"I am not angry Kanne, I'm just irritated" Kriti sighed, glancing at the clock again. He looked at her niece again when she felt a tug on her kurti. "I am hungry" Kriti jr said with puppy eyes.
"Okay, let's go have dinner" Both girls made their way to the kitchen and was deciding whether to make dinner or order out when the doorbell rang again. "Yay, Kamsa Mama is here!" Saying this Kriti jr sped out of the kitchen, leaving behind a perplexed Kriti behind.
Kamsa who?
The glee in the child's eyes made her irrationally jealous
She heard her niece calling out "It's open, Mama. Come, come" and went to investigate, stopping midway to see a young man twirling her niece, laughing with her. The guy was tall, looked the same age as her and was casually dressed in denim jeans and sweatshirt. She only had a few seconds to admire his curly hair and sparkling eyes before those same eyes met with hers. He set down Kriti jr, looking at her with curiosity and suddenly Kriti felt consious of how she was looking - Not expecting him to show up, she was dressed in an old kurti with three-fourth leggings and her hair in a bun, with a few strands already escaping here and there. My God! What a first impression I am giving this guy. She thought. But then again, why am I stressing on how I look? Not like he's here to flirt with me.
The newly arrived person, walked over to her and extended his hand, still smiling wholeheartedly "So you must be this little mischief queen's godmother. Adi and Nandu can't stop talking about you" He said "Hi, I'm Vaishakh "
"Hi, I'm Kriti"
"Do you know the word Kriti means creation, a work of art?" He asked suddenly
"Yes" Kriti replied, wondering where this was going
"Art is beauty. So I don't think I have to tell you how beautiful you are, Miss Kriti" He said with a grin .
Kriti is no stranger to compliments but she would be lying if she said that pickup line wasn't good. Either he was buttering her up for coming in late or he was a natural flirt.
"Thank you" She said, not letting him give the impression that he had won her over "And if I'm not wrong, people with the name Vaishakh has a good and nice disposition"
He grinned wider "So you like giving out compliments as well. Good for you. We are going to get along just fine" He winked at her and walked towards the kitchen, with a gleeful Kriti jr following him.
Kriti let out a breath she didn't know she was holding in "This is going to be a long night" She wondered as she shut the door.

Why do I see many Arulmozhi and Vandhiyadevan shippers (DISCLAIMER: YOU'RE ALL SO VALID OMG) but no Aditha Karigalan and Vandhiyadevan?
I mean, let's look at it.
VT didn't even want to leave him in the first place but AK trusted him more than his supposed bff Parthiba to do his bidding. He risked his life several times for AK over the course of the movies. Unlike Parthibendra he wasn't even really seduced by Nandhini, and he stayed loyal to AK, and this was even before he met Kundhavai. He listened to everything Kundhavai and Arulmozhi said for AK. He refused to let AK go alone to Nandhini and despite royal orders to stay away, he found a way to go there to try and protect him. He kept calling him my prince. He blames himself solely for not protecting Aditha.
It goes on and on okay, come on now!!
EDIT: OMG I remember how Aditha smiles when VT comes to war in PS1 and same wide smile when they meet in PS2 in Nagai! Two of the only times AK smiles so happily and genuinely through the entire two movies!! MY HEART!!

Adi Mel Adi (Blow after blow)- Inaidhal chapter 2
As we promised, @whippersnappersbookworm and I are back with the second chapter of Inaidhal! Please do give us your feedback!
Important Note: Please do NOT judge Kundavai here- we have written her with the perspective of what she says in the book. Do not judge her reactions, but look past it to see what she has learned since childhood.
*********
"How did this happen?" Kundavai enquired as soon as they stepped outside of the bihara
"I don't know the exact details but they met when Ponniyin Selvan was going to Eezham, he took a ride in her boat and gave her the name 'Samudra Kumari' . That poor girl fell in love with him from that moment onward. I heard them talking about freedom and how the prince wanted to get away from everything. He was even muttering her names in his dreams..."
"Thambi wanted to get away from us because of a woman?” Kundavai trembled.
Kundavai sat down in the earth covering her face with her hands
" This can't happen again...the same thing is happening....I am once again losing a brother  to non-royalty. What if Arunmolzhi ends up just like Anna? What if he destroys his life , his potential, his everything for that girl! Just like Aditha karikalan did!” she mumbled into her hands.
"Princess are you okay?" Vandiyathevan asked , confused by the Princesses's reaction
" How dare she Vallavarayan? How can she think about winning my brother's heart? How dare she think that she can win the love of the Chola Scion? She is not royalty! How can she yearn to be his wife?”
Vandiyathevan stopped in his tracks, what is ilavarasi saying? How can she say this? How can she judge someone she has never met like this?
"How did this happen to Arulmozhi?" Kundavai continued her ramblings indifferent to the confused warrior
"What if she wants him for his status, his crown, his everything else? What if… no no. Only royalty can ascend the Chozha throne…”
"Stop!"
Kundavai stopped midway and looked up to find Vandiyathevan looking down upon her.
The familiar smile and the twinkle in his eyes has vanished. They are now filled with some unknown emotion.
"That girl has a name princess."
"Alright. Samudrakumari…"
" Her name is Poonkuzhali and I can swear on Shiva Perumal or Kannan or any god you prefer that she is much much better than Kodambalur Ilavarasi!"
Kundavai was taken aback by this sudden declaration.
"Why is he defending her? Is he by any chance?"- The anger in her heart got replaced by another unknown feeling. Her chest tightens with several emotions. She knew she was being irrational, so she told herself to calm down and not doubt him.
" Why do you care so much about her?" she could not help asking.
" Because she is a wonderful girl! You don't know her like i do Princess!"- Vandiyathevan screamed in anger
" She is not some lowly boat woman but a wonderful girl, she is intelligent, she is beautiful, she is smart! She can give any princess a run for their money! Then tell me why she is not enough for Arulmozhi Varman?"
None of this registered in Kundavai's mind , her beautiful face turned red with anger. Jealousy was raging like a storm in her heart
"Why is Vallavarayan behaving like this?! He is supporting her now ! That same man who said his heart belongs to me is now screaming at me for her, and insulting my dear Vanathi? How dare he do that?"
" You want to know why she is not enough for my brother?"- Kundavai asked in a stone cold voice, tears threatening to fall down her doe like eyes
" Because she is a common girl! She doesn't have royal blood like Vanathi! Even if the crow adorns it with peacock feathers it will remain a crow , it can never become a peacock. Royalty have to marry royalty for the race to flourish!”
Vandiyathevan was taken aback by this revelation, all the dream castles he had built in his heart after meeting the princess fall apart like a deck of cards by this statement.
" Is royal status and blood everything princess?"
" It is for royalty, because that one relationship can only work between equals.”
Vandiyathevan looked up at his beloved's face, trying to find a hint of softness in her features, but there was none. Her beautiful face has transformed into a maligned one due to anger . There was no love , no softness, only intense hatred and anger.
Vandiyathevan sighed -'' then what am I doing here princess? Risking my life to save your brother just because you asked me to take care of him? I didn't need to do this, I don't owe you anything. But I am still here standing in front of you , why ilavarasi why?"
" How can I ..."
Their argument was suddenly interrupted  by the chime of anklets familiar to Kundavai. She whipped around to catch a stone-faced Vanathi, who looked like she had gotten blow after blow. Her beloved uyir thozhi had heard what Vallavarayan had said, and a glance at Vallvarayan’s face told her the same.
“Vanathi, kanne..” Kundavai started.
“The Ilavarasar is awake, Akka,” Vanathi stated quietly. “Please go to him.”
Saying so, she gently hugged Kundavai, nodded at Vanthiyathevan politely, and walked away with her head held high, her form making Kundavai smile proudly, and give Vanthiyathevan a look saying, ‘that is my Vanathi’. She beckoned him to follow her inside, now eager to see her brother.

Maatrutva (2)
The Soldiers and all the servants bowed as the regal looking man walked hastily into the anthapuram. His best friend and advisor, who was also his brother-in-law matched his steps side by side beside him and the duo made haste towards a certain chamber.
Raja Raja Chozhan was discussing about Political Matters with his Thozha Vallavarayan Vandiyathevan, when a maid barged in and cried about how his Queen Panchavan Madeviyaar had collapsed near Ponni in the arms of Udaya Pirattiyar. The world seen to zone out as his mind was filled with constant thoughts, his mind reliving his whole life with her till now.
"Thambi!" He heard his elder sister's cry as she ran towards him with his wife Abhimaanavalli in tow. He had recently wed Abhimaanavalli, and the said girl was mingling nicely with family because of the friendly nature everyone had, except she was taking a place in heart of Kundhavai more because of her bubbly nature.
"Akka! Valli! What is it I hear? What happened to my Panchama? Is she fine? Is she hurt anywhere?" He bombared his Akka with questions, reminding her of the time he had got so worked up when he found out that Vanathi fainted because of dehydration as she was doing Nirjala Vratham.
"The Vaidhyar is here Thambi, he is checking Panchama. Vaa, let's see." Kundhavai said and the brother-sister duo rushed inside the private area of Panchamadevi's chambers. Where no one except Royal Family members was allowed without permission.
Thiripuvana Madeviyaar and Loka Madeviyaar sat beside a lying Panchama, the former softly running her palm at her sister-wife's head. Panchama laid unconscious, unknown to the upturn of emotions and chaos she caused.
"Swami! Panchama!" Lokamadevi hastily moved behind a little, making a place for Raja Rajan to sit, his hand immediately getting hold of Panchama's jewelled palm.
"Vaidhyar, what is it? What happened to the Queen?" He asked restlessly, Lokamadevi's palm resting on his shoulder to ease his restlesness.
The Vaidhyar smiled. "Arasae! Looks like Sakthi Amman finally heard the plea of Rani. Congratulations Arase, for your Queen Panchamadevi is going to be a Mother. Yes Arasae, the Queen is pregnant."
Abhimaanavalli squealed in delight, hugging Kundhavai excitedly. She had known very well that Panchamadevi was the only Queen of Raja Rajan who was barren, and she prayed to Durgai Amman to fill her life with more and more happiness.
Which Durgai Amman did.
Thiripuvana Madeviyaar cried happy tears, arms wounding her shoulder from back as she turned to see her other sister-wife Cholamadevi smiling tearfully at her. "Swami, my heart teared up when she cried and pleaded Maa Jagadambika for a child in her barren garden. Finally, Amma heard her plea." She said crying happily.
"Urgh..." Panchama groaned, taking all the attention on herself as she tried sitting up. The Vaidhyar bowed and took his leave, leaving the family bask in happiness. "Akka," Panchama turned to Thiripuvana Madeviyaar. "Did I faint again?" She asked hoarsely, and turned her head to see her beloved husband looking at her with tearful but happy eyes. "Swami? Why are there tears in your eyes?" She asked hastily and he caressed her forehead gently.
"Panchama, here, have this water first. We can talk later." He said and made her drink water. "Now tell me, did I faint?" She asked gulping the rest of water.
"Panchama, you did, and it's a good news." Loka Madeviyaar smiled, wiping the tear that fell from her eye. "What is it Akka? What did that Vaidhyar said? What happened to me?" Panchama asked, Raja Rajan immediately holding her palm.
"Panchama, Kanne, you are going to be a mother. Yes, the Vaidhyar confirmed that you are pregnant!" Thiripuvana Madeviyaar told her and Panchama's eyes widened.
"What- but- how..?" Panchama was too flabbergasted. At first, the Vaidhyar broke her heart by saying she was barren, what happened now? Could it be the miracle of all the penance??
As of reading her thoughts Thiripuvana Madeviyaar nodded. "Yes Kanne, your harsh penance finally was fruitful." She said kissed Panchama's forehead.
"Akka! I am going to tell about this to the Kids. They will be so excited!" Abhimaanavalli said with a happy clap.
"Valli, you seem more happy than her." Raja Rajan teased his newly wed wife with an amused glance, her turning bashful at the comment. "Arasare, how can I not? I have been praying to Durgaiyamman for Akka's happiness ever since I set foot in Thanjai as your Rani. Finally, Akka is graced with the beauty of Motherhood." Abhimaanavalli replied, her voice not holding any sort of resentment but pure love and devotion of her Akka and sister-wife.
Which was one of the best traits he liked in her, thus he took her as his wife rather than her sister.
"Vanathi, Sakti, Abhimaana, why don't we all leave and tell others?" Kundhavai, who was silently celebrating Panchama's pregnancy and thanking Uma Maheshwara again anf again suggested and the other three Queens of Raja Rajan immediately nodded, shuffling out eith Vandiyadevan in tow.
"Panchama..." Raja Rajan kissed her forehead. "You made me the happieat person on the earth." He said tearfully kissing her forehead, Panchama's own eyes tearing up at the news. "You don't know how much I suffered while you cried to sleep for not being able to give me a child. How much I prayed Shiva to fulfill all your wishes. See, he did." He said and Panchama burst into tears followed by him.
"Swami, the love of Madhuranthakan, Araiyan, Kundavai and Mathevadhigal overpowered the sadness of me being barren. I am so happy that they will finally have amother playmate. Madhu and Araiyan will finally get one more sword fighter or Kundavai and Mathevadhigal will get a doll to dress up." Panchama sniffed with a happy smile.
Raja Rajan laughed. "What did you think of names?" He asked suddenly.
Panchama was in thoughts. Then out of nowhere, a small smile bloomed at her face. "Adithya Varman— if boy and if girl, we will think." She said and gauged his reaction, which contorted into a pained look and then a smile. He didn't said anything but hugged her.
Months later, Panchamadevi gave birth to a very healthy boy, and he was named after the elder brother of Raja Rajan, Adithya Karikalan.

Naatpu - 1
Ponniyin Selvan X Bahubali Crossover
next chapter
.
.
Vandiyathevan was leaving to Lanka in a day. The orders of the devi herself. His devi. Poonguzhali, well versed with the route to the lankan shore had agreed to take him.
"We'll leave tommorow afternoon" she mumbled biting off a piece of coconut. "Tommorow? What am I supposed to do till then?" Groaned Vandiyathevan. "Well, you're in Chozha Nadu. One can find many things to do around here" she replied walking towards the harbour. "Remember to meet me at the harbour tommorow by noon." Vandiyathevan knew what he was going to do.
Aditha had spoken about a certain Kuntalan princess, who he'd met while returning from his first war. He and a few other soldiers, had halted there for a day. In the short span he'd gotten to be around the princess, he'd developed a liking towards her. "She'd understood me and healed me like no other. I gained a true friend that day."
Someone capable of understanding let alone healing Aditha? Now Vandiyathevan was too intrigued to let go of such an opportunity. The kingdom was four hours away, he'd make it just before sunset if he rode fast enough.
.
.
.
Vandiyathevan had begun to churn stories to convince the princess as to the reasons for his visit. He could say he ran out of water, and although he was fine, his horse was about to faint of thirst. Or rather, that he had fought the Pindari soldiers on his way to the palace and was injured.
He'd now reached the bastions of the palace. He hopped off his horse and introduced himself to the soldiers "I'm Vallavarayan Vandiyathevan, Aditha Karikalan's nanban."
The soldiers face immediately turned sober, "The yuvarani was expecting you" he smiled sending a nod to the other soldiers who opened the gates for him, confusing Vandiyathevan.
The palace was much smaller compared to the others he had seen. A young boy took Semba into the stables, as a daasi led him towards the meeting chambers of the palace. "Yuvarani Devasena will be here in a moment." She informed him. The kingdom was a heavy contrast to thanjai. The walls of the palace were made of marble. Agriculture seemed to be the major occupation. The palace itself looked quite whimsical and fable like.
"At last, we meet!" He heard a voice behind him. In a moment he knew what Aditha had felt. "Made us wait a little too long hmm Vanthiyare? Please do sit!" said Devasena leading him to a settee, seating herself too. There was something so warm about her aura, that made one feel, seen and included. "Karikalar had informed me that you'd be visiting. We've been eagerly waiting for you since then."
"Ilavarase knew I was coming? How- I myself hadn't planned on visiting until today morning".
"He'd informed me, that you were in thanjai and you were likely to come here if you got into any trouble. What he also told me was that he wouldn't be surprised, if you made up an excuse, just to come to Kuntala." said Devasena, a smile now playing on her lips.
Vandiyathevan winced. Aditha knew him too well.
.
.
.
The two had gobbled up a scrumptious meal which compensated for all the running and falling and dancing Vandiyathevan had performed. "Aditha has spoken quite a bit about you" Devasena said drying her hands. "Oh I can say the same! Ilavarase believes you changed him as a person, for the better. He told us that you understood him when nobody else could. Rather, that was what drove me to meet you."
Devasena's smile faltered, her eyes fading into melancholy. "He was so happy. He'd met the love of his life then. One would never guess a man like him to be so extremely mushy when it came to love. Oh and the way he took her name. As if it were a prayer, or a chant rather. Nandhini." Her eyes traced back to Vandiyathevan who looked almost bewildered.
"Nandhini?" He asked gulping slightly. "He hasn't mentioned?" Asked Devasena, a tinge of concern slipping into her voice, "Oh why did I have to bring her up after so many years. He has probably moved on. Must have, if he hasn't mentioned her to anyone. Back then, he wouldn't stop chirping about her for a moment."
"He hasn't." He spoke breaking his silence, "Atleast, I don't think he has. I always wondered what drove him to the insanities he committed. It isn't common for one to think about conquering another kingdom, while still washing the blood off their hands from the war of the previous one." He looked back at her, eyebrows furrowed. "And i don't think she's moved on either."
"Who, Nandhini?" Devasena's gaze grew sharper by the second. "You met Nandhini?" Vandiyathevan nodded. A sharp exhale escaped Devasena's mouth. "Don't mention it to Aditha unless he asks you so himself. And if he does, do not lie." Vandiyathevan understood.
The room fell silent for a moment. "But Karikalan and.......love? To such extents?" Devasena tried to speak, but couldn't utter anything. Things were conveyed, in plain silence.
"Well speaking about love...." sighed Devasena, "How are you doing? Romantically that is."
Vandiyathevan was taken aback and amused all at once. He stared blankly at her, waiting for context, realising immediately that he wasn't going to get any. "I- I'm sorry yuvarani, I don't think I'm following?" Vandiyathevan asked shaking his head.
"Oh please Vanthiyare, I heard you've met Kundavai?"
Vandiyathevan's eyes widened, as a slight blush crept up his face. Is that what it was. Had Aditha tried to-? No. it could not have been.
"Hey, Aditha set you up himself. What are you worried about?"
Vandiyathevan looked around the room uncomfortably, the awkwardness reaching to him. "Yuvarani, I think there has been a slight misunderstanding. I met Kundavai Devi only to spill whatever I had spied and learnt."
Devasena sighed, moving closer to Vandiyathevan. "Vanthiyare, firstly, please call me Devasena. Secondly, why are you in such denial? You clearly like Kundavai. Or, a little more than like i supposee"
"Yuvarani-"
"Tsk tsk"
"-I have no feelings towards the Ilavarasi."
"Vallava! Your face is as red as a ruby."
"No?!-"
Vandiyathevan stopped, as soon as his eyes caught himself in the mirror across their table. His face had turned into a brighter shade of red, than the ink he had painted his face with for the MaayaKannan Recital. What had he done to himself. Since when had he begun to blush? He slightly smoothened his moustache before turning back to Devasena. She had now propped her chin on her hand, smiling wide at Vandiyathevan.
"But I'm just a soldier. With no land or identity. How could one even dream of such things at my stature?
"Why not? Who hasn't heard of Vallavarayan Vandiyathevan? Aditha Karikalan himself sings his name to every creature he meets. Imagine the stature of a man who rules the sky above him and every piece of land he stands on."
Ah, so it was Yuvarani who'd influenced Ilavarase to speak such words of motivation. The similarity in their thinking and choice of words, surprised Vandiyathevan.
"The thing about love is, it just happens vallava. Before you realise it, you've fallen for them. And they for you. People fall in love with souls, not bodies, and definitely not with statures. Knowing you, you must've already charmed her. And knowing Kundavai..." Vandiyathevan's eyes perched up, "she might as well be thinking about you right now."
Vandiyathevan sank back into his chair, exhaling sharply.
"Cause you're a little too precious."
His gaze met her's.
"The only reason I thought Aditha had moved on is because of how cheerful he was the last time he'd visited. But now that i think about it, i think it was all because of you. He'd gone on and on about you. So much so that Nandhini would be jealous if she were present."
Said Devasena breaking into a fit of laughter as Vandiyathevan joined her too.
"Before you know it you've fallen for them...." Repeated Vandiyathevan. "Who is it?" He asked abruptly, interrupting her thoughts. Devasena fumbled, her eyes blinking vigorously.
"Sounds like you speak with a lot of experience yourself."
Devasena smiled thinking about the love sick fool she'd fallen for. Vandiyathevan grinned jumping back into his element.
"So.....?" He asked bending forward resting one palm on his knee while the other held up his chin, raising an eyebrow, mockingly. Devasena chuckled throwing a pillow at him.
That day, he'd gained a new friend. A true friend.
.
.
.
.
If Devasena wasn't Devasena i would've made her fall for Vandiyathevan. I'm not kidding.

Aga naga - An example of soft, soothing love.
youtube
This song is the epitome of soft, slow love. The love which kind of just makes way into your heart without you knowing. The love which paints your cheeks red in the slightest of moments. It makes your heart sway. It makes your heart get peaceful, but at the same time it makes it yearn for more. It makes you have goosebumps on the tiniest of touches. The kind of love which makes you smile like a madman, makes you forget your composure, makes you forget your surroundings.
This song is the mixture of all these emotions. It makes you feel all of these emotions at once. It will definitely make you close your eyes and just get lost in it's warmth.
You can witness Vanthyathevan and Kundavai's journey by just listening to it. This is the power of this song. And yes we cannot forget the beautiful lyrics, Shakthisree's enchanting voice and the heart warming bgm.
I mean, I don't have a lover, but this song has always made my heart go to some places.
What is your experience with this song?

Poonguzhali:
Her hands can row mountains, her vision can capture lightning, her brave heart can able to withstand the storm, and her smile can kill you or make you. The princess of the Ocean, Samuthirakumari. The woman who fought storm, evil, devil everything to make sure her loveable prince reached the shores of Eezham. Samuthirakumari of PonniyinSelvan "Poonguzhali"

Vaanathi:
Scared as a kitten, but roar like a true queen. The orphan princess who took shelter under the love of her friend/sister Princess Kundhavai. The pure heart cute flowers that Kodambalur cherishes. Kundhavai:
Is she the epitome of beauty? Is she the queen who stepped down to make her brother a fine king? Is she the kingmaker that even the noblest bowed down? Is she the mastermind behind the victory of Cholas? There are no words to describe her grace, her love for her brothers, her loyalty to Chozha Desam. The one who loved a man for his heart. One and Only Ilaya Pirattiyar Kundhavai. Princess of Chozha Desam! Queen of Vallavarayan Vanthiyadevan.

Nandhini:
If vengeance has a face, then it's her. The heart that bleeds for her lost love, the pain she suffered cause of her birth. The disappointment that she carried all her life. The white flowers, the innocence that was taken for granted. The devil they made, the death she caused. From being a prey to becoming a predator she has seen it all, a beauty who became a beast. She is Vengeance! Nandhini Devi.

It's gonna be a long one y'all
A Matter of Chance -13
The birds cooed their customary morning calls, waking the forest inhabitants save the two who never slept
Nandini’s head buzzed with worried, hopes and ideas for tackling her situation.
Aditha’s head buzzed for a completely different reason
Nandini hadn’t yet given him an answer.
She’d retreated into her own world after listening to him and he was terrified.
He’d not given her much to go on except his affections. The thought of catty palace women who donned the finest, brightest clothing but had the ability to sting and bite as any predator sent her running he guessed.
Heavens, she probably still saw him as a delusional teenager who hoped for the impossible.
‘Tis true he turns into a lovesick lad when she’s mentioned – but that doesn’t mean the intervening years hadn’t affected him.
Years in the battlefield made him a cynical, weary old man before he could complete his 30th summer.
He had no patience to tolerate rose eyed young ladies far removed from reality. Nor was he willing to suffer scheming wannabe princesses who sought titles, jewels and more for their clan.
No fault of these ladies, he thought, not all young women can advance themselves without marriage.
War made him realise that life was fleeting and ideals of peace, love must be preserved no matter the cost.
And he wasn’t willing to let go of the only one who held his heart.
These philosophical musings were just an attempt to prevent his spiral into worrying about her lack of response.
---------------------
Nandini decided this was it. Krishna had not tested her with so much heartbreak since childhood for nothing. Afterall, why hadn’t these experiences broken her fully? Why did hope remain in her heart?
She’d decided that she wants to remain by Aditha’s side. He’d promised to protect her and she had nothing to lose. She feared her piety turning into a curtain for misery, more than dreading any royal dynasty.
Oh lord! What was she to do? Who must she tell first- her Anna or foster parents?
She, in her nervousness, bounced into a worried Aditha and started regaling him with plans
“We shall be engaged at the forest Krishna temple! Then we can head out Nay! We must visit your barracks first. Do you wish to marry here itself- or do you have another temple in mind?”
Aditha’s sleep deprived brain took the barest moment before it was flooded with euphoria
She still loves me. She wishes to marry me
He’d yell it to all the surrounding villages if he could.
He embraced her. Nothing mattered more. He dreaded to think what his life would be without her.
The couple giggled at their own reactions and decided to head to the temple for morning prayers.
This was Nandini’s first time walking unaided since her injury and she wished to thank Krishna for her recovery – both of body and heart.
She noticed Aditha unabashedly gawk at her during her walk, interspersed with moments of worry when she stumbled.
They prayed at the temple. Nandini cleaned the environs before lighting the lamps and placing fresh flowers.
She offered the deity fresh fruits and milk before singing prayers as Aditha looked on peacefully.
The hopeful couple thanked God for reuniting them and sought His blessings for their union.
They returned to the hut to plan their next course of action. The royal family’s disapproval stemmed from her lack of identity and the fear of people not accepting a commoner as queen.
Nandini had long lost interest in finding the identity of her father. She’s lived far too long thus for his identity to have any bearing on her life.
Even a king siring her won’t undo all her life’s pain, she wryly mused
Her foster family would worry given their past entanglement – she needed to maintain a foothold before telling them.
Thirumalai anna- her dear foster brother- was her only hope
On the other side , Aditha too thought of someone who could help him- his dear friend Vallavarayan Vanthiyadevan
A romantic at heart, awareness of his Liege ‘s heartbreak and in possession of cartloads of charm- he was the right man for this job.
Aditha said he’d take her to his barracks. He explained it’d be better to reveal the news in a controlled fashion to those around him.
Nandini agreed, thinking it’s almost time for her brother’s customary visit.
She’d always known her brother’s career was not quite as it seems. The secrecy and vagueness in his description, coupled with an erratic schedule made one thing clear.
He was extremely important to someone but can’t reveal how.
-------------
Aditha helped her pack the contents of her hut into cloth bags and helped her up his horse.
She was wrought with nervousness- how was everyone going to react? Those who mocked her as a child certainly won’t spare her now!
Her guilt over leaving behind the Krishna temple, that gave her livelihood and a purpose to live on too weighed on her.
En route through the village, she stopped by the old priest’s house. Few years ago, he’d taken pity on the pious Mournful looking young lady and offered her this responsibility.
She bid Aditha to wait outside as she conversed with the elderly gentleman. She hesitantly explained her situation seated on the thinnai, hoping he won’t see her as a deserter.
The old man’s eyes shined with comprehension. “Wheb I first saw you, you seemed to be completely detached and aloof. I had hoped Krishna would light our life with purpose and of course love. This must be fate- it is His will” he said and granted her leave with a blessing.
Her heart seemed a little lighter as they journeyed on. Aditha said he’d written to the soldiers to prepare for a guest but hadn’t yet given them details.
Aditha’s horse neighed as they approached the destination, with the guards outside immediately recognizing their master. As they neared the barracks, Nandini could see soldiers realize there was a woman atop the crown prince’s horse. They began lining up at the entrance.
Her heart raced “heavens, so many people”
“What if they misunderstand my presence here” “how can I handle the disapproval of so many?”
She instinctively accepted Aditha’s hand and descended. He began before she could worry more “By Shiva’s grace, I have found my ardhangini. I am extremely pleased for she has accepted my suit and wished to introduce her to all my brothers in arms. Gentlemen, behold your future pattathu arasi (empress)”
Various qualities are attributed to military barracks; silence wasn’t one of them. Nandini’s stomach lurched..
The concurrent thunderous cheering sent her into a mix of relief, joy and anxiety.
The soldiers who’d long resigned that their master, known for his bravery and honor, would never wed unless for political reasons were gleeful beyond relief.
War and administration were Aditha’s only priorities. He tried sharing the joys and sorrows of all the soldiers but his air of melancholy didn’t go unnoticed over the years.
They were surprised that he’d made a love match and were determined to make it work – even if others didn’t like a commoner wedding a prince.
Vanthiyadevan, lord of Vallam and Aditha’s dear friend, could barely believe his eyes when he received his message.
Lover of love itself, he had plans up his sleeve.
He marched forward to greet the couple with his signature grin “Welcome Welcome to your Highness and your lovely fiancée”
Nandini calmed down slightly seeing a friendly visage. “That was a glorious welcome, friends, now let’s head inside “ boomed Aditha’s voice.
The couple and some close associates entered the largest tent of that encampment. Nandini felt terribly out of place – a tent filled with enough finery to rival a palace.
She seated herself on a velvet lined stool, noticing the persian rugs, gold chalices and engraved furniture, trying not to let her insecurity show.
Aditha noticed and came to stand by her side, laying a hand over her shoulder. He was flanked by his 2 friends and grandfather.
Chieftain Malayaman certainly wished for a noblewoman to marry his eldest grandson. But witnessing his pain and desolation firsthand made him grateful for any joy in his grandson’s life.
Nandini noticed the reactions of the three new men, the elderly warlord who seemed to judge her without animosity, Vanthiyadevans friendly face welcoming her and the last one…. Parthibendran tried to seem civil but failed to hide his awe of her beauty.
He openly gaped at her, much to her annoyance. Her betrothed seem to notice and decided to draw attention “ you’re all here because you’ve stood by me over the years. I need your assistance once again”
Malayaman professed his support but requested them to marry after reaching the Thanjavur. “It will strengthen the validity of your union in the public's eyes “ he insisted. Nandini felt Aditha squeeze her shoulder, so she agreed when he said they shall consider it.
Vanthiyadevan merely wished them once again with a cheeky smile and said mysteriously “Do not worry my lady. While I cannot predict the nobility, the people will welcome your presence!”
Nandini highly doubted that, but decided not to contradict. Even though Parthibendran was testing her patience, she didn’t wish to lose a potential ally- regardless of which of her virtues drew them in.
