That recent Baiken thing made me think of Bang coming across Valkenhayn pinning his hand above Amane's shoulder on a wall, snarling as the dancer smirks up at him and just about collapsing because oh my god he's being replaced by one of the Six Heroes!

He can't fight Valkenhayn! He's not as refined or classy or handsome in all the classical ways that he assumes Amane likes!

Cue Valkenhayn glancing at the sound of dying gasps of heartbreak and just clocking what's going on with a pained groan because dear lord no, he outgrew this sort of romantic drama when he dumped Relius, thank you very much.

Pfft oh god and if there's anyone who's dealt with enough of that it's Valkenhayn, he's had enough weird homoerotic drama for one lifetime.

Although, if anything, I suppose it might come together nicely in the end. Even if he's tired of these youngsters and their nonsense once he notices the obvious he sits them down out of spite more than anything, gets Bang to realize how down bad he is in about half a paragraph, and leaves them to whatever comes next because he is a grown man with a job who has other stuff to do today

(If Bang thinks he has the ability to 'replace' him, does that mean that he finds him attractive as well? Valkenhayn isn't sure how to interpret that, but it's been a while since he's had a compliment, so he'll take it, circumstances be damned)

People in the BlazBlue Centralfiction were making jokes about which of the Six Heroes would last the longest in a "bong rotation" scenario so that inspired me to make this.

have been wanting to doodle relius in leyendecker’s artstyle, and i originally wanted to do a study of a different pic, of current era design with ignis but then I realized i did not really want to think of how to render her in this style so everyone has to look at twink relius instead

I’ve been thinking about who to mix with Valkerhayne and I feel like the obvious choice would be Giovanna. At the same time, I keep thinking that maybe Testament is the way to go? That would be an interesting design. Gio’s main similarity is that she is a werewolf, but don’t they both have more going on than that?

Then again, Kliff is probably even more obvious…They look kind of similar, in a spiky way.

Bloodedge Experience Extra Chapter done. Relius and Valk have taken Saya and Relius notes Kuroki successfully installed the Murakumo Unit. Then are then found by Hazama who looks around Naoto’s age here. Valk hears Hazama muttering to himself how he’s “finally found Relius” in an ominous tone. Could just be Hazama being ominous or for all we know Terumi’s also here but it’s not a high chance. Then the story comes to its end.

I find Valkenhayn to be such a unique character in Blazblue because I don’t think there’s really anyone else that’s in a similar position as him. He is a legitimately cool character with a lot of history surrounding him yet I can’t think of too many Valkenhayn-specific moments either. Like outside of his story mode in CS, he’s usually paired with someone else like Rachel or anyone related to the Six Heroes. I think the main story in general never really did him justice because I always felt that everything that makes him interesting happened way before the main plot like his history with Relius or the Alucard family (Clavis in particular).

One of the recurring symptoms of fighting games is that inevitably there are going to be some characters with really cool concepts who are pushed aside or underexplored for the sake of whatever overall plotline is going on. Blazblue criminally suffers from this, and Valk is a shining example. Here's a werewolf who's a former contract killer who worked alongside one of the series' main villains, who found a sense of purpose under the tutelage of an elder vampire and becoming a secondary parental figure to his young daughter, and later became a figure of legend after becoming a part of a group responsible for battling a cataclysmic being that threatened all of existence. That by itself sounds like you could make an entire anime from it, and yet he's just a side character who rarely has much prominence in the lore. Like, I straight-up had to double-check the wiki that he actually was one of the Six Heroes because it's so tangential and irrelevant to the main plot that I couldn't remember for certain if that was him. And that's not even getting into how small and inconsequential the presence of beastkin and the fact that werewolves even exist and the fact that they're prejudiced again despite the fact that it also barely comes up ever aside from Bullet committing microaggressions at him. There could be so much potential for him finding purpose after the war or explaining more of why he sees the Alucards as a surrogate family and how he cares for Rachel outside of the strictly professional sense, but canonically he's just a fancy setpiece whose main narrative role is 'Rachel's butler who also did some stuff at some point'
