(The both of them grumbled before completely making out after this.)

Rufus: I recently bought Mateo a little lego set as a date idea. I keep stepping on stupid little lego pieces. I swear I’m gonna.. (incoherent mad mumbling)

Mateo: (glaring) Well, I hate when Rufus just curses out randomly. Sometimes he won’t even tell me why. I’ll have him lying down on my lap and he’ll just say, “Shit!” and not elaborate.

(The both of them glanced at each other and laughed it off right after this.)

book ramble below (little messy to call it a review lmao)

hi i’m alive!!! long story short my mood has been rly shit, so i took a hiatus off art for a while and also went into a reading slump, but i finally managed to finish tftdate today!

i love but also hate the ending oml, this book is so beautiful but the way he (no spoilers) dies is so brutal, i had to step outside and touch some grass to process that 😭 AND THE VIDEO IN THE USB DRIVE GAVE ME SO MANY MIXED EMOTIONS. BRO IM SHITTING TEARS. THEY LOVED EACHOTHER SM. i’m so glad he thought ahead to make the video though, it’s so bittersweet. they didn’t even get to look through their photos together though

it’s so thought provoking just like the first book and it made me think so hard about how things could’ve been different, like if valentino never moved to new york or if his landlord was a different

but all we, the reader, know for sure is that valentino would’ve stayed miserable if he never met orion. and orion finally got a boyfriend. they both lived their dreams in one day, i think that’s the closest to a happy ending we can get.

to be honest i find adam silveras writing style a little choppy and fast paced, but it didn’t stop me from learning a lot about valentino and orion, and their interactions are so cute

i even had some hope at the end that things would go right but nope ☹️

i felt a whole lot of different emotions after the ending, but one things for sure, i cried a lot!!! 😍😍😍 i don’t know what’s with adam silvera and making gay couples sad bro, this book is so homophobic of him smh. the only way i can describe the ending is awfully bittersweet. and the way the side stories tie together is so genius but so cruel at the same time, so kudos to adam silvera for that

anyway good news is that it sparked an art idea for me, so i decided to draw these sad gays to cope

to me they’re just paid actors and the whole book is fake and they’re happily married alr nobody can convince me otherwise

I read the first to die and the end right after I finished they both die at the end and I- ...I have no words I cried sm (not as much as I did for tbdate but still) but yk what killed me? The fucking mentions and fucking foreshadowing for they both die at the end. Bc what the fuck was that???? Like hello???? Fucking Rufus being w his family and Mateo being with his dad and trying to talk to Rufus????? "'Rufus' that was a nice name" what the fuck??????

ALSO NOT TO MENTION THAT I WAS CLEAR THAT IT WOULD BE VALENTINO GOING TO DIE AND THEY HAD TO HIT US WITH HIM TALKINH ABT ALL THE THINGS HE WANTEF TO DO IN NY WHILE LIVING THERE????? :( sometimes I think foreshadowing is the saddest thing an author can do

crazy conspiracy theory time:

in they both die at the end and the first to die at the end, its never said how they can predict deaths… so what if they cant? what if its not that if you’re going to die you get a call, but if you get a call, you’re going to die? like maybe its not that because you’re going to die they call you, but because they call you, you die

think abt it, if mateo didn’t receive the call, he wouldnt have told his neighbor to leave his stove alone, which means that he wouldnt have died because of the broken stove

if rufus didnt receive the call, we’d have one of 2 options: option 1, he’d be in jail, because in the book, the police couldnt be bothered to chase after a decker since there was little point. if he was in jail, he couldnt have been run over. option 2, he ended up somehow in the same position as he did when he died, but since he never met mateo, he wouldnt be sad about his death, which means he would probably look before crossing the street

in the same vein, if death cast didnt exist at all, then delilah (victor’s ex-fiancee) wouldnt have received a call and wouldnt have asked victor about it, meaning that victor wouldnt even be driving towards her anyway. since it is heavily implied that victor (rufus’s death cast herald) was the one who hit rufus, rufus wouldnt have died if death cast didnt exist.

similarly, in tftdate, if rolando didnt work at deathcast briefly, it wouldnt have given him the initiative to tell gloria to follow her heart, and she wouldnt have asked for a divorce with frankie - in this situation the fight wouldnt have happened and valentino would still be alive and if valentino didn’t receive the call, he wouldnt have offered to give his heart to orion and might still have a chance of being saved (which is dodgy but hear me out)

if the pilot of the plane scarlett was supposed to be on didnt receive a call from death case he wouldnt have been so anxious and scared and experiencing such intense emotions that he got a heart attack

which means, scarlett would have been in ny with valentino and they would have been doing something together and it wouldnt have created any of the circumstances that there were for the deckers of that day to die.
