“That’s an awfully cold thing to say.” Until now, she had not thought things to be utterly hopeless and had been counting on at least a little glimmer of good faith. Yet the closest thing she seemed to have to help was a woman who clearly had neither the time nor the patience for her. Rinoa felt really quite desolate, utterly downtrodden and defeated. Being treated as though she was a nuisance was nothing short of frustrating.  “I see I’m not going to find any sympathy in this place”, said Rinoa, thin arms crossing over her chest, a stormy look upon her face, “All I’ve run into since I got here is rudeness and unkindness. Way uncool.”

It was not like Rinoa to cry. She was missing home but she refused to weep over her situation, not when she had not yet exhausted all her options. For now, getting help was her best choice and only as a last resort would she be willing to brave it alone. She would have to rely on being very convincing. “I’m going to ask you to help me, is what I’m going to do”, Rinoa nodded, straightening up (although doing so made little different for they appeared to be of similar height) and squaring her shoulders, “I’m not being left here. It’s not like I’m asking to be babied.” She had said it in her most confident voice and her posture was all very deliberate but her face certainly betrayed her, with her uncertain gaze and the way her teeth sunk into her bottom lip. Let this work.

‘ you don't look like the gossipin' type, but part of me feels like you might know a few good places with people who are. would i be wrong to think so ? ’

Kael was always the quiet type, from childhood into adulthood, and it seemed as though he looked the part too. He had often heard his were cold features and that his resting expression was not one of particular warmth, although he suspected these were the exaggerations of people who could not make sense of his once awkward ways. In his late teens, he’d fallen out of line, jumped off of the tracks to find his own path, and, in the years that came to follow, he’d become the rough type too. Quiet but reckless, Kael had learned to shift his way in and out of most situations; there was much to be gained in sneaking around and, as someone raised for self and taught from a young age to abandon man’s basic fear of danger, Kael was a perfect fit for the job.

His eyes washed over her as he scrutinised each and every visible detail offered to him and he made a show of looking as disinterested as possible, an eyebrow lazily raised halfway and his lips curled, in the hopes of blunting the sharp glint of his watchful gaze and, in doing so, misleading her. Trust would not come easily to him. Yet she did not appear to wear any proof of gang affiliation and the likes upon her body and the simple fact that she had approach him without yanking him up by the collar of his shirt was likely proof enough that Kael was not in harm’s way. She was right to assume that he knew his away around the city’s underside. Although he mostly kept to himself these days, there had been a time where learning these things had been a matter of life or death, a balance to which he was more accustomed than someone that age had any right to be. 

Kael was a good person at his core, he’d steered away from these sorts of affairs as soon as he was offered the choice, but the throbbing of his pulse that risk so awarded him reminded him that his existence meant something. The boy had been raised to throw his life away and, although he had long since learned that he was far more than a mere weapon, he stilled thrived on that terrible rush of adrenaline. Alas, Kael was easily won over, too willingly guided by his own fancy. Simply, he was bored to death of being bored.

At last, a spark of curiosity flashed across his face, dark eyes bright and near-glittering, as he turned to face her. His expression, illuminated only by the dim glow of the establishment’s less-than-remarkable overhead lights, remained steely save for the faintest hint of a smirk tugging at his lips.

“Mmhm~” It was a tuneful hum, one that followed the gentle rhythm of her looking the other woman  up and down, her voice first rising up and then falling as she dropped her gaze. Rinoa had seen a lot in her life, met some dangerous people, but her glowing curiosity had not waned in that time; nothing could capture her attention like an interesting stranger and, honestly, she knew how to deal with the Hard Guy act.

A hand on one hip and the other against her chin, the tip of her index finger brushing her lips, she settled. Her mind was made up. There was no doubt in her mind that this woman could do some damage should she want to. She looked strong, like a force with which to be reckoned, like someone with the potential to be dangerous, but her word choice only threw Rinoa’s thoughts back to a certain firery Guardian Force. This wasn’t quite like watching Ifrit. A human was, after all, just a human. Besides, Hell seemed like an unfair descriptor for someone who seemed kind of cool. “You don’t seem so bad to me.”
