i really love this bit where kyoko comforts makoto after the first trial. i think it's one of their most interesting interactions, and is a good showcase of the core of their relationship...

... because she puts her trust in him as one would invest in a business, i think. she comforts him because without him, the other participants won't be able to survive, and she won't be able to uncover the mysteries unfolding before them. at this stage, he's a valuable asset in the making, someone who has the right idea of what to fight against, but needs a steady hand to guide him through it.

and even as he refuses her observation of him...

... she still risks it.

it's early in the game, so there's no solid judgements she can make yet. she keeps him 5 feet away while keeping everyone else 10 feet, ready to turn her back on him again the moment he proves too much of a risk. but for this moment, she'll trust him.
