He holds the Monty Mix in his mouth. He has eaten a lot of shit in his life, and only half of it edible, but he's struggling with this. His face keeps contorting; he can't get enough moisture in to wet the powder, and where it has sucked the saliva from his tongue, it's turned into a horrible brick of mush that's no easier to swallow than the rest of it. He can't believe she actually ate it. Working his jaw back and forth, he makes a last ditch effort to get it down. Maybe he can swallow it whole, like his cell phone. He goes for it-- then spews green mist across the table, heaving. "AGEUGH-ECK!" For a minute, he continues to gag like a cat, tongue out, pounding his fist against his chest. Then, at last, he licks the inside of his cheek and wheezes, "The taste's not the problem. The taste is great."

"Heh-- truth be told... I didn't know I was going to find you." The utility tunnels beneath the pizzeria reach down deep. There are relics down there that even he hasn't unearthed, and every excursion turns up something new. He'd had his suspicions when his endoskeleton scouts had reported back, but it could have been anyone, really. 'Bloodthirsty animatronic' was nondescript at this point, sadly. He was working the number down with every band member he salvaged from the depths, but there always seemed to be more.

"Not that I didn't come prepared." He raises his hands, flexing those all-too-familiar gloves. The ones that zap. They crackle in time with the clicks from Freddy's stomach. "But we don't have to fight." And hasn't he tried this before? He's aware of how lame it sounds, in light of his past actions. If Freddy can be rehabilitated, he's not the one to do it. Still, he offers, because what else can he do? He will always harbor a soft spot for the bear he designed -- his very first blueprint.

If he could scoff he would have. It wasn't that Funfred didn't think that Mike in particular was special; he just wouldn't give him the satisfaction. Ears flatten and an eyebrow quipped as far as it could motion in its small slit on his plating.

Even in the dim light he can see just how exhausted Michael looks in this moment, not that Funfred was pristine or even remotely close to what he once was. He's rust, he's tilted forward, his right eye lid dropped and affixed half way down his optic. The right arm of course unoccupied by neither rabbit puppet nor hand. This was what was left of both man and animatronic. Scraps. Remanences of what either once was, still playing the same cat and mouse game. Living and dying is all there is. Life and decay.

Jonny’s Pedalboard for The Smile’s Production Rehearsals

Today, The Smile shared a rehearsal video of the song Thin Thing on their Instagram page. Jonny’s guitar setup is largely the same as for the Glastonbury and Instagram live streams, but there are some notable differences. Jonny is using a BOSS DD-200 delay for the first time, replacing the Strymon Timeline that briefly floated to the right of his board during the Instagram streams. He also stopped using a Electro-Harmonix POG Nano — presumably, he doesn’t need any harmonies for the upcoming shows. In its place, he has his old Demeter The Tremulator, identifiable by the yellow piece of tape on its face.

Jonny is also back to using a single overdrive: his old BOSS SD-1. It replaces his BOSS OD-3 and Ibanez TS-808. The SD-1 is identifiable by the paler yellow color (compared to the OD-3) and the silver knob caps (the OD-3 has gold caps). The SD-1 and TS-808 have very similar circuits and a very similar mid-focused sound. Both use diode soft-clipping, but SD-1′s asymmetrical clipping has a more dynamic sound than the woolly symmetrical clipping of the TS-808. Perhaps Jonny wanted the mids of the TS-808 with crunchier clipping. Or perhaps he just wanted to avoid playing shows with the vintage TS-808, and the SD-1 sounded close enough. While he hasn’t used the SD-1 for a Radiohead-related project since the mid-2000s, he did continue to use it on occasion for solo shows with the London Contemporary Orchestra and with Shye Ben Tzur.

To the left of his pedalboard, we can see a BOSS TU2/3 and an Akai Headrush E2 delay/looper, both used with his Fender Precision bass. The bits of white tape on the Headrush mark settings for a delay, most likely used when Jonny bows his bass guitar during jammier moments.

In the video, we can also see two MIDI pedalboards in Jonny’s setup: a Studiologic MP-117 MIDI to the right of his pedal and a Roland FC-200 MIDI by his laptop rack. The Studiologic is connected to a Oberheim SEM mono-synth and used for bass. Thom and Jonny have previously used the Roland to control Jonny’s Max patches — most notably the drum machine on 15 Step and the multi-channel looper on Give Up The Ghost.

Voix anglaises

Vous n'y croyiez plus, et moi non plus, mais après deux ans d'inactivité me revoilà avec une Vocal-box spéciale. Bon, faut que je vous explique d'où ça sort...

J'avais commencé une Vocal-box sur Avanna (il y a deux ans donc), mais je galérais pas mal et je l'avais laissé tomber. En même temps, ma consommation de Vocaloid a drastiquement baissé, au point qu'en 2017 je n'ai dû écouter que 4-5 nouvelles chansons. J'ai un gros retard difficile à rattraper, et s'occuper de Nijirobox dans ces conditions c'est pas le pied. Par contre j'écoute encore pas mal de chansons anglaises, parce qu'elles apparaissent plus facilement dans mes suggestions Youtube. Et parce qu'elles me plaisent bien. Du coup je me suis dit que ça pouvait faire un chouette thème pour une nouvelle vidéo, enfin !

Au début je pensais simplement partager les chansons anglaises que j'aimais bien (principalement du GUMI), mais finalement j'en ai profité pour approfondir le sujet. On va donc aujourd'hui s’intéresser aux engloids et à la communauté occidentale (enfin y'a quelques asiatiques dans le tas aussi, mais pas de japonais)

Ou plutôt devrais-je dire qu'on va revenir à la source, parce que vous savez probablement que les premiers Vocaloids étaient en anglais. Et que c'était pas la méga-hype. Alors moi j'ai essayé de retourner à cette belle époque de 2004, 3 ans avant la naissance de Miku, pour voir si y'avait eu des trucs, et... bon, déjà c'est chaud de retrouver quelque chose, même si y'en a eu. Pourquoi ? Parce qu'en 2004, Youtube n'existait pas. Oups. Bon c'est arrivé l'année d'après, mais la foule ne s'est pas jeté dessus directement, surtout pour mettre des sons. Du coup à ce moment-là ça se trouvait plutôt sur des sites de musiques, des sites persos, des forums, ou nulle part sur Internet, tout simplement. Et puis aussi, à cette époque on ne voyait pas forcément l’intérêt de mettre en avant la banque vocale, comme on le fait maintenant à cause des personnages (en omettant souvent le nom du producteur dans le titre de la vidéo, comme s'il était secondaire), et donc parfois c'est à peine si le terme « vocaloid » apparait quelque part. Maiiiis, malgré ça j'ai quand même fait des découvertes assez folles.

Tout d'abord, Mike Oldfield (dont la musique Tubular Bells a été reprise pour le film L'Exorciste) a utilisé VOCALOID1 sur son album Light + Shade. Yep yep, je trouvais ça déjà cool que ma mère aime les Vocaloids, mais là c’est un niveau au dessus. Par contre y'a débat sur quel Vocaloid exactement, c'est pas très clair. Ca ressemble beaucoup à LOLA, mais on n'est pas sûrs et il aurait également utilisé le logiciel CANTOR, donc va savoir qui est quoi ou quoi est qui. Mh. Mais peu importe, ça déboite quand même. Ensuite je suis tombée sur un groupe russe qui testait les premiers Vocaloids jusqu'à Big Al, et qui a été jusqu'à faire un live avec Miriam (en bas de la page vous avez un lien pour écouter un extrait, et un autre pour la version LEON). En 2004 !

Comme je l'ai mentionné plus haut, il y a eu rapidement des forums dédiés à Vocaloid et le tout premier est celui de vocaloid-user.net, actif de 2004 à 20015 (n'hésitez pas à visiter le site avec la Wayback Machine, c'est rigolo). Donc il y avait bien une communauté dès le début, relativement productive en plus, malheureusement les musiques ne sont plus accessibles, ce qui est très frustrant... celle ci-dessus est une des seules épaves que j'ai retrouvées (avec Song of Andromeda). Je pensais d'abord que c'était juste un cover fait par un type lambda, mais en cherchant davantage j'ai vu que Peter Gordon était sur le forum. Donc un dramaturge de 50 piges a utilisé des Vocaloids pour préparer une adaptation musicale d'une de ses pièces. On peut pas faire plus random.

C'est assez intéressant de voir à quel point le public ciblé ainsi que son rapport avec le logiciel était différent avant que Crypton ne vienne tout chambouler. Un public plus jeune et plus « otaku » s'est emparé du phénomène, et je ne peux pas m'empêcher de me demander ce que ça aurait donné si Crypton n'était pas intervenu.

Bref, les japonais s'étant emparé du bousin donc, il faudra attendre un peu avant que l'anglais ne se re-fraye un chemin dans le répertoire (shu-t faisait déjà plein de choses avec les engloids, mais j'ai dit que je ne parlerai pas des producteurs japonais). C'est vers 2010-11 que débarqueront notamment CrusherP, EmpathP, nostraightanswer, mais surtout CircusP qui va tout défoncer avec Circus Monster et Lie, deux gros succès qui iront même se nicher dans le Vocaran, tranquillou.

C'est ensuite sur VOCALOID3 que les engloids et la communauté anglophone vont se démarquer, avec dans les premiers arrivés la banque anglaise de GUMI qui reste encore une des meilleures et une des plus utilisées (si pas la plus utilisée). Sérieux c'est la best. Les Cryptonloids auront aussi leur banque anglaise petit à petit, mais bon, GUMI reste la meilleure bilingue.

Et puis finalement avec VOCALOID4 ils vont se lâcher. Je trouvais il n'y a pas si longtemps encore que l'occident était trop peu productif, mais depuis 2-3 ans ça explose sur Youtube, et j'espère que ce n'est que le début. CYBER DIVA et CYBER SONGMAN sont d'ailleurs destinés à attirer un nouveau public occidental plus « professionnel », et du coup c'est un peu comme si on revenait à LEON et LOLA. La boucle est bouclée. Enfin presque, parce que moi j'attends Miriam V4.

Ady S : Si vous voulez plus de SONiKA, je crois bien que la moitié de son répertoire se trouve chez Ady S. Mais il a aussi utilisé Oliver, Avanna, Cybe Diva...

DoNotCrossP : Elle utilise pas mal de Vocaloids différents mais c'est pour son travail avec Miriam que je l'ai découverte, et c'est sympa. Elle fait également des chansons en russe.

GHOST  et Creep-P: Je voulais en caser un dans ma vidéo mais je n'avais plus de place. Ils font des chansons assez sombres/creepy.

Anh Duy : Un(e?) jeune producteur vietnamien qui fait des chansons en anglais et en japonais, ainsi que des covers UTAU. Je trouve ce qu'il fait très doux et envoutant !

They had divorced from subtlety, and he doesn't know why William still insists on doing up the bed like it'll ever be coming back.

Maybe it's something about having a new body. Michael could understand that, at least. He's been slightly more precious about his own wellbeing in the last few months than he ever was in the past thirty years. It is not easy, he'd discovered, to reattach a living finger. Staples do not do the trick. He turns his seat side to side absently. "I mean, you did die. I'm pretty sure. I put in a lot of effort to get you there, so I'd be bummed if you didn't." He is more than bummed. He's seething. Some days he sees William and all he can think is: Die! Die die die die die! There are holes in their desk from where he drove pens into the wood. Should we get plastic? No, they make me feel better.

"I remember how I got here. But you came later. Maybe Hell just couldn't digest you, on account of how much you suck. But since that's, like, the point of Hell, I'm hoping that's not it."

everything  was  still  new.  i  was  scoutin’  around  on  my  own,  the  city  was  small,  still  just  beams  &  tattered  tents.  the  vanguard  just  barely  a  whisper  in  the  wind.  it  was  just  me  &  the  wilds.  &  back  then  lemme  tell  you:  they  were  truly  WILD.

i  happened  upon  a  small  group  of  refugees,  humans.  they  were  scared  &  i  don’t  exactly  blame  em’.  they  remembered.  exos  like  us  were  war  machines,   big  cooperation  muscle;  not  much  good  ever  followed  ones  wake.  &  that  was  without  the  light  stirring  the  pot.  normal  folk  were  still  trying  to  scope  us  guardians  out.

then  –  RRR  AA  GG  HHH  !!  (  well…  not  exactly.  )  another  group  slinks  outta  the  bushes  like  the  punch  of  a  bad  ghost  story.  it  didn’t  take  long  after  something  like  the  collapse  for  desperation  to  set  in.  it  made  people  do  things  they  wouldn’t  normally.  it’s  ugly  stuff. 

i  stood  right  in  the  middle,  something  in  me  just  told  me  i  had  to  protect  these  people.  it  surged  &  churned  &  it  straightened  my  spine.  i  brandished  my  pistol  for  the  billionth  time  but  only  the  sixth  time,  y’know?  &  with  me  standing  between  them  it  all  felt  right  …  sundance  fluttered  up  at  my  side  &  i  felt  a  warmth.  a  fire  with  no  burn.  i  started  to  glow �� 

.  .  .  they  ran  away.

yeeeeah,  no  grand  shoot  out  story here.  (  but  if  you  want  any  of  those  lemme  know  !  i  got  a  million  of  em’  !  stick  around buddy.  )

the  family  behind  still  didn’t  look  too  keen  on  me.  i  put  my  pistol  away  &  was  gonna  take  my  leave  until  their  little  girl  …  she  ran  up  right  to  me,  grabbed  onto  a  few  of  my  fingers  with  her  little  hand  &  just  ….  smiled.

Michael leans forwards as well, narrowing his eyes. As he looks, his expression transforms from angry disbelief, to confusion, to shock, and finally settles on horror. His eyebrows climb towards his hairline, pulling together; his mouth opens in an 'o'. "What," he says again, but that's all he says, as his eyes rove over William's chest. His chest. A fresh emotion threatens to usurp the horror: righteous fury, Michael's constant companion. And for the first time, it's on William's behalf.

"What have they done to you?" He shoves past the makeshift barrier, uncaring. He's wearing a white shirt, tucked into his trousers, and a purple tie studded with golden stars. It's uncanny to see. A brassy name badge is stuck to his chest: AFTON, Manager. That must be how he got in; his pass would take him anywhere in the building. The problem being, the building is enormous, even more so than it has any right to be, and he's only been here for a month.

Burntrap wonders the same thing. The young man before him looks...alive. At least, more so than prior. Baffling. Had Michael been revived and rebuilt as well? For that's the explanation behind Burntrap's wildly different appearance. Regaining the ability to feel pain had not been pleasant, but at least he now has two functioning hands.

But who would have done that for Michael? His one ally had burned him to death and sounded quite certain that the process was both desired and final.

"I could ask you the same." But he isn't going to, because that would require Burntrap to share information about his own revival in turn. He cannot afford to do that.

Burntrap lurches forward for a closer look, cables audibly dragging behind him as he does so. An unfortunate side effect being that Michael can now get a closer look at the technically-living remains of what once had been his father. "Why are you here?"

Clearly, Burntrap's attempt to make Michael leave was not successful. He needs to determine why.

It would feel so good to lash out right now. After all, Freddy and the rest had taken the concept of making a choice for someone else to its furthest extreme, hadn't they? They'd taken his limbs and his lungs, his face and his future; they'd cut him off from humanity forever, stolen the breath from his body and the blood from his veins, robbed him of any hope of normalcy that had been left to him; and, when he'd ceased to serve their purpose, they'd discarded him. Like garbage. Like nothing.

It would feel so good to take a bit of that power back for himself. Baby is beyond his reach; Ballora, too, and he's not seen hide nor hair of Foxy. But Freddy... Freddy is still here. Disarm him, literally, take away his best friend. Then mess with his code, strip him of his primary directives, but leave just enough to know that something is missing-- he could do it. It would be easy. Get him hooked up to a computer, and Michael could dismantle him, line by line. Leave him a shell, the way he'd left Michael. He could share his terror at long last with someone else. There but not there. The world rendered down to unfamiliar shapes. Drowning. Suffocating. Hasn't Freddy always been the one closest to him? Of all the Funtimes, haven't they been... he has no word for it. Something?

And it's a shame that that connection stays his hand. He can't. He can't do that to somebody else, not even the one who did it to him, and not for any moral reason higher than this: I would be just like him. He curls his hand to his chest, grips his wrist and holds it there. "You're right, I guess," he says, as flippantly as he can. "So-- whatever. Get out of here."

He strides over to her, dropping his bag behind the counter and leaning over to rest his chin on her head, his chest against the back of her chair. A stray strand of hair drafts across his nose, and he snorts it away, then contemplates making a moustache for himself. Nah. That would require lifting his hands, and they're still aching from being sat on for an entire meeting. "I didn't kill John," he says, trying to inject some cheeriness into his voice. ( It should be a joke, but he's already killed one head of the company. Two, if you count the rabbit! But she won't judge him. She knows why. ) "I once again shot down the... the Faztastic Fizzcruiser."

Much as it pains him to see his creation damaged, Rocky is repairable; Michael, for the most part, is not. Having a body is so strange! He isn't used to being so-- he gropes for a word he can't find as he steps around the deactivated endo, frowning all the way. Blood and bones and organs, things he hasn't had in years. Was this a gift, or a punishment? He prefers to think of it as the former, but sometimes, he does wonder... "Let's get you straight to Parts and Services -- and recharge my taser. As he lay on his back, still in his street clothes, picking out patterns in the popcorn ceiling, he tried desperately to convince himself that this wasn’t worth it. He had built a good life for himself from nothing. Sure, he was still working at Freddy’s, but it was different now; the Megaplex had the potential to be something special. If the company wasn’t going to drop dead as it rightly should have years ago, then he wanted to be there -- to monitor it, to shape it into something that could have a positive impact on the community, instead of only taking away. It would always be a leech, of course, it was a fucking for-profit entertainment venture, but maybe it could be better than it had been. He had no delusions of recapturing any ‘lost magic’ from his childhood -- those days were long gone -- and chasing nostalgia in this instance would do more harm than good. But it could be... something else. Something children could like, and, more importantly, something that wouldn’t hurt them. To that end, he should have been in his office, or on the floor, or in parts and service fiddling with the endos or making repairs. Not here. Not in Stonecreek, getting ready to drive God knows how long to the coast to assist a murderous AI in its schemes.

                                                    it does not take long for the phone to grace him with a response. the output prompt was simple, michael would take the phone down to where her assimilation first occurred. her AWAKENING , SOUL - FREEING , GRAND ARRIVAL. he would hook up the phone model’s corresponding usb cord, she would gain access to a few lost things from a time long demolished, &. then they would leave. born anew once more. and it knew he would do it long before he answered, because he had an ATTACHMENT to it. there was an absence in michael’s life, whether it was something he lost sleep over or just a gruelling fact of life, did not concern the simulacra. it wasn’t just a parental figure absent, it was a THRILL. it was a sense of purpose, of being needed. Father? It's just about the last word Burntrap ever expected to hear. His chattering jaw stills in shock. "Not anymore, no." He can't be William Afton anymore. The powers that be were quite clear on that. This presents a host of problems. Michael Afton is alive. In what capacity is he visiting, though? Burntrap's miserable enough without the thought of his son Michael working here. Having to deal with him every day. Could he be visiting? But this area is staff-only. Trespassing. Burntrap is authorized to deal with trespassers. That may prove the solution. "This area is restricted to employees only. Please return to the elevator." A standard line. Burntrap won't reveal anything until Michael does.

He looks so strange, so different from the last time William saw him. First and foremost, he has skin, with dimension, instead of purple, decayed leather stretched across the memory of a human shape. It's an odd, grey colour, but still significantly better than what it had been. His face is full: no gaps in his cheeks revealing his teeth, no chunks taken out of his nose. He has a full head of hair, the same dark russet it had been in life. When he walks, he doesn't shuffle or stagger, and when he speaks, he doesn't stutter.
