Microorganisms, Vol. 12, Pages 1453: Racial Disparities in Plasma Cytokine and Microbiome Profiles
Background: Many health issues prevalent in African American (AA) populations are associated with chronic inflammation and related health conditions, including autoimmune diseases, infectious diseases, neurologic disorders, metabolic syndromes, and others. The current study aims to understand plasma microbiome translocation as a potential trigger for chronic inflammation. Methods: In this study, 16 Caucasian American (CA) and 22 African American (AA) healthy individuals were recruited. Microbial DNA was isolated from the plasma samples and sequenced via microbial 16S #rRNA V3-4 sequencing. The plasma levels of 33 cytokines and chemokines were evaluated. The proinflammatory microbiomes were verified using human THP-1 cells in vitro. Results: The plasma levels of IL-6, IL-15, MIP-1α, MIP-1β, and MIP-3α were higher in the AA people, whereas IL-1α and IL-27 were elevated in the CA people. The plasma microbiomes exhibited eight bacterial genera/phyla differentially enriched in the CA and AA people. Given the critical role of IL-6 in chronic inflammation and associated diseases, we identified five bacteria genera significantly associated with IL-6. The abundance of Actinomyces was positively correlated with the plasma IL-6 level (r = 0.41, p = 0.01), while the abundance of Kurthia (r = −0.34, p = 0.04), Noviherbaspirillum (r = −0.34, p = 0.04), Candidatus Protochlamydia (r = −0.36, p = 0.03), and Reyranella (r = −0.39, p = 0.02) was negatively correlated with this. Finally, the THP-1 cells treated with heat-killed bacteria produced higher levels of IL-6 in vitro in response to the Actinomyces species compared to the species in the genus either uncorrelated or negatively correlated with IL-6. Conclusions: This is the first study to report potential blood microbiome translocation as a driver for persistently elevated IL-6 levels in the periphery in healthy AA versus CA people. Understanding the plasma microbiome linked to the IL-6 levels in people with different racial backgrounds is essential to unraveling the therapeutic approaches to improve precision medicine. https://www.mdpi.com/2076-2607/12/7/1453?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=tumblr

Hmm, no one seems to have swung at the 27 askmeme, so if it's not too awkward, 22, 23, 24, 25?
not awkward at all!
22. whose backstory do you want to find out?
For now, definitely Cinder and Nora. Cinder’s is the missing piece to fully comprehend her character and the only one out of the original villains to still be a mystery so I’m eager to know about it. And we still don’t really know Nora’s. I believe Nora’s originally from Atlas (because Norse mythology allusions), so I’m really expecting vol 7-9 to deliver.
23. out of the currently known backstories, which is your favourite?
Honestly? Blake’s. I don’t think it’d be wrong to say that Blake has the most intricate backstory and storyline, because of how many engaging themes intersect in it (it’s why she’s such a crossroads for so many supporting characters AND one main aka Yang). I know I’ve said this before but Blake...is just so cool.
24. who’s semblance is the coolest, in your opinion?
The Schnees’! The whole aesthetic surrounding the glyphs, the way it’s a hereditary power that defines the Schnee line but the individuals can still build very different fighting styles around it (Winter and Weiss have starkly different vibes even though they essentially use the same power), the summoning...it’s probably my favorite Semblance amongst Team RWBY (along with Yang’s...gotta love Super Saiyan Yang).
25. if you could change one thing about the series, would you change anything?
I think I already talked about this but that would be having more Bumbleby basis in V1-3, especially in V3. What crwby did with bumbleby is to have few moments but every single one of them counts and their relationship evolves as a result of it. Contrast it with how Sun gets a lot of screentime with Blake but their relationship stays static throughout all of it. I don’t get why people talk about bs development when not a single moment she shares with Sun is important after the White Fang confrontation in v1 while every single moment she has with Yang is pivotal. BS ironically only starts developping V4 onwards, when it shifts into a friendship and Sun takes part in the political storyline, becoming Blake’s “protégé” in the sense that he’s the first character (along with Ilia) Blake has to inspire in her role as a political leader.
So yeah with v1-3 crwby established Sun as a decoy love interest while giving all the active relationship development to Yang. The thing is they succeeded too well on that front, because bumbleby’s moments are far in between while Sun, being too good a red herring, feels omnipresent in Blake’s storyline even when he doesn’t matter (romantically. I love my dumb bimbo son and he’s important as a friend, wingman and the character that Blake first gets to lead). V3 especially could have benefitted from one more bumbleby moment, aside from the Mercury Thing. V2 should have had subdued moments of “oh yeah they’re hanging out together it’s a thing they do” to establish their relationship a bit more and V3 could have had one more shared conversation after Mercury.
from the 27 rwby asks

So the Hickman stuff... There's so much of it and I don't know where to start! Can you give some recommendations (especially with the Tony and Steve stuff)?
The thing about Hickman’s Avengers run is that if you’re interested in reading any of it, the best thing to do is read all of it. The run as a whole is structured as one continuous story spanning about 100 issues – this is Avengers vol 5, New Avengers vol 3, and the event Infinity. (And you should probably finish up with Secret Wars.)
While at the beginning it might be possible to read Avengers and New Avengers separately, by the end of the run it basically won’t make sense unless you’re reading them both, because you are more or less alternating one issue from each series, and they are written assuming you are reading them both. Similarly, Infinity is designed to be read interspersed among Avengers and New Avengers issues.
I can certainly give you issue numbers that are important for Steve and Tony – New Avengers #3 is the mindwipe, Avengers #29 is when Steve finds out about the mindwipe, and Avengers #44 is when Steve and Tony finally meet for the last time – but I want to stress that the overarching plot is complicated, and there’s a whole lot going on, and the fact that it’s written as one big story means it assumes you know what’s going on.
So if you’re going to read it, you should read the whole thing from the beginning, in approximately the order it was released in. Luckily, since I ran this as a book club for the Discord server, I have a reading order premade. (You can find reading orders on the internet but many of them are EXTREMELY WRONG because they tell you to read New Avengers #1-3 before Avengers #1. Which is EXTREMELY WRONG. In my opinion.)
Here’s my order under the Read More. The second half might not be exactly accurate to Hickman’s preferred order because I wrote it before the second omnibus was out and I haven’t checked it since, but the first half is definitely right, and Time Runs Out is right. It’s also split up in weeks, approximately the contents of two trades per week (because this was for book club), and features Additional Reading that you can do if you want for more backstory.
Week Zero is some backstory on the Illuminati, the Infinity Gems, and why Steve is in the Illuminati, as well as the annual from Hickman’s run, which is out of order but we needed somewhere to put it because it is so much happier than everything else and not by Hickman anyway. If you know all of this already you can just start with Week One.Week Zero:New Avengers: Illuminati (2006) #1New Avengers: Illuminati (2007) #1-5Avengers vol 4 #7-12Avengers vol 5 Annual

Runaways Comics Reading Guide
So, you wanna read Runaways, huh? Maybe the wait for season 2 is taking too long and you’re desperate for content or you heard that this amazing series was revived last September. Whatever the reason, you're in luck, because I sold my soul to Brian K Vaughn and all of his characters when I was 12!
You're also in luck because, compared to some other comic book series, Runaways is a little less confusing to figure out. Now, it seems a bit daunting at first, but the series is easily digestible, and you could easily get through all the comics in a couple days if you had a lot of free time. However, if you don't want to read their smaller arcs, I will note which ones are alright to skip. Here's my self determined reading order:
Runaways- Volume 1 (18 issues): must-read! Duh, this is where the story starts! The TV show takes off from here, but fair warning, the comics are radically different from the show (understandably, tv shows and comic books are much different mediums with different capabilities, but that's a different post). This is where you get to know our gang and the conflict with their parents, which is pretty important because the backstories are a lot different than in the show.
Runaways- Volume 2 (30 issues): vitally important, even if it will rip you apart inside and crush all of your dreams. At least through issue 24. After issue 24, our Lord BKV left, so some people regard the rest of the series as trash (tbh joss whedon is trash sooo). I guess from issue 25 onward, it's not all that important to read them, but I did and I would.
Civil War: Young Avengers & Runaways (4 issues): nonessential to any plot, but I’m Young Avengers trash as much as I am Runaways trash, so I loved it. You may find it a bit boring if you’re not familiar with the Young Avengers. Note: this limited series takes place in the middle of Runaways Vol 2, I think in between #24 and #25. Since there’s no important plot, it doesn’t matter if you read it then, but definitely don’t read it before volume 2 to avoid spoilers.
Secret Invasion: Runaways/Young Avengers (3 issues): this one actually DOES take place between v2 and v3! like the other crossover, it’s not essential to the plot of Runaways. If you’re not familiar with the Young Avengers, you probably won’t understand what’s happening. As a Young Avengers fan, though, I loved it!
Runaways- Volume 3 (14 issues): like I said, most people find these ones to be throwaway comics, but personally I would read literally any content with these characters so like,, yeah. You should read V3 if you're going to read the Runaways arcs in Daken and Avengers Academy.
Daken: The Dark Wolverine- Issues #17-19: not necessary to read at all, maybe a lil interesting if you read Vol 3 Runaways bc it ends on a cliffhanger and this is the only time in comic canon where it's addressed, even in the vaguest way possible ("yeah, this character got hit by a fucking car. But they're fINE. Just pErFeCT.")
Avengers Academy- Issues #27-28: must read if you read Vol 3! You can either read the whole series just for the Runaways arc, or just read these 2 issues with the Runaways (which is what I did, but I went back and read the whole series bc I loved the characters, and they will appear again in a moment!) read for some wholesome dino fun (not,, but.. ehhhhh angst w a happy ending???)
Avenger's Arena (18 issues): battle royale meets teenage superheroes. A bunch of teens w powers (incl. Nico, chase, darkhawk, and some people from Avengers Academy) are thrown onto an island designed to kill them & make them kill each other. I understand that this kind of gore isn't what everyone looks for in a comic book and it's a bit childish, but I found it entertaining. Not necessary to read if you want to pick up the new series, but its events are referenced.
Avengers Undercover (10 issues): I didn't enjoy these that much (actually I probably spent more time ranting about these comics than anything, I really didn't enjoy them at all), but they are a continuation of avengers arena so you should probably read them if you read AA. Completely nonessential to understanding anything in any other comics ever.
Runaways- Volume 4 (4 issues): to be honest, I never actually read these. I tried, but the characters aren't even in it?? Why is a part of runaways??? The world may never know. Maybe if you understand more about Battleworld then it's more entertaining, but I was completely lost and confused.
A-Force- Volume 1 (5 issues): like Vol 4 Runaways, this takes place on battleworld, so like Vol 4, I was very lost and confused. However Nico is a main character and all the characters are totally badass and amazing and I have officially adopted Singularity so yeah? Also America Chavez is a BAMF. I think I'd recommend reading them? Sooo many bi vibes (bibes?) from Nico. since this takes place on a different world, it's not really relevant, but it sets up A-Force Vol 2.
A-Force- Volume 2 (10 issues): takes place back in the same world as the original runaways comics. I don't wanna spoil anything but there's more badass bisexual Nico. All in all, the series isn't necessary to understand any Runaways plots, but they are briefly mentioned in the new comics. They're also super awesome and if you like Nico you should definitely read them!!
Avengers AI (12 issues)- I've gotta be honest I never particularly cared for Victor so I didn't read these, what happens is probably important to the new Runaways but like,, I figured it out so you can too. I mean, I'll get around to reading them one of these days, I'm sure they're great comics but ya victors a ho
Runaways- Volume 5 (9 issues thus far): the new series!! Some characters come back from the dead and The Band Gets Back Together!!!!!!
I'd say if you just want to read the new series, the only ones completely vital are the Runaways comics, up to Vol 2 #24. However, all the rest are amazing (albeit frustrating sometimes) comics that I highly recommend you read!! They add a lot more depth to the characters and their experiences. I’m sure I’m missing some comics that they’ve appeared in, but I think these are all of the important ones? Correct me if I’m wrong!
Okay, okay this all sounds amazing. I'm so ready! How do I read them???
First of all, no one is ever ready. Second of all.. you have a few options, not all of them everyone will like
Buy them. Either at marvel.com, on their app, or at a comic book store.
Take them out from the library. I've never actually done this but once comics have been released issue by issue, they're then published as a volume. I'd assume some libraries might have these consolidated comics.
Read them online. I know, I know, this is bad. But realistically, not everyone can afford to buy every single comic, and not everyone has access to a library where they can take them out. HOWEVER, I'm begging you not to use this option for the new comics. Marvel can (and HAS in the past) cancel the series if it's not making enough money. Each issue is $4USD. Every issue that you can buy counts. If you don't have access to a comic book store where you can buy them (I get it, I live in morocco), you can buy a digital copy online on Marvel's website or their app. Personally, I only own one random copy from Runaways Vol 2 that I found in a comic book store in Madrid, but I own every single new comic either hard copy, digitally, or both. Please, please, please support these comics whichever way you can!! Now that I've made my plea, you can find all of the comics online here.
I hope maybe my rambling helped you somehow. I absolutely adore these characters and these stories. Feel free to send me a message if you have any questions or want to talk about the comics! Happy reading, and welcome to the abyss.

Do you have a suggested reading order for the gl comics in general?
Well, we do have a comic rec online which gives you an overview for the individual lanterns as well as important events + some links to other reading lists.
If you wanna know my personal opinion on where to start, it depends highly on whether or not you wanna go big right from the beginning or rather start smaller and then read up on the rest.
I think you could just start with DC Rebirth’s Green Lanterns (2016) and Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps (2016) – aka the two titles currently running – to get a feeling for our lanterns and then go back when you feel like you wanna know more.
But under the cut there’s going to be a longer list that starts with Green Lantern: Rebirth (2004) and what came after. Of course there was also stuff before but Rebirth is a really good starting point for what’s going on these days.
Technically you can start right here on top or whenever a reboot happend aka when there’s a new headline:
GL:Rebirth to New52
Green Lantern: Rebirth (2004) (not part of DC Rebirth!)
Green Lantern v4 (2005)Green Lantern Corps v2 (2006)Arc by arc breakdown:
Green Lantern: No Fear (GLv4 #1-6)

Green Lanterns reading list
I decided to make a masterpost about all my children: Hal Jordan, Guy Gardner, John Stewart, Kyle Rayner, Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz. The following reading list only includes the stuff I’ve read, which is good to get to know Green Lantern mythos, these characters, villains and the other corps to a high level. But I also included links to some reading lists made by other people (which are very good and very complete) for each character, in case anyone wants to go deeper.
Everything under the cut, since it is a very (very) long list. Enjoy!!
Green Lantern, Vol 4 (Geoff Johns’ run):
Green Lantern: Rebirth (1-6)
Vol 1: No Fear (1-6, Secret Origins, 2005)
Vol 2: Revenge of the Green Lanterns (7-13)
Vol 3: Wanted: Hal Jordan (14-20)
Green Lantern: The Sinestro Corps War [vol 4 & 5] (Crossover: GL 21-25; GLC 14-19 and Green Lantern: Sinestro Corps Special)
Vol 6: Secret Origin (29-35)
Vol 7: Rage of the Red Lanterns (36-38)
Vol 8: Agent Orange (39-42)
Vol 9: Blackest Night (Crossover: Blackest Night 0-8, GL 43-52, GLC 39-47)
Vol 10: Brightest Day (53-62)
Green Lantern: War of the Green Lanterns (Crossover: GL 63-67, GLC 58-60, GL: Emerald Warriors 8-10) also check: War of the Green Lanterns: Aftermath.
Green Lantern, Vol 5 (New 52):
Vol 1: Sinestro (1-6)
Vol 2: The Revenge of Blackhand (7-12)
Vol 3: The End (13-20, 0) Check the crossovers: Green Lantern: Rise of the Third Army (13-16; GLC 13-16; GL: New Guardians 13-16; Red Lanterns 13-16) and GL: Wrath of the First Lantern (17-20, GLC 17-20, Red Lanterns 17-20, Green Lantern: New Guardians 17-20.)
Vol 4: Dark Days (21-26, Annual 2) Crossover: Green Lantern: Lights Out (24, GLC 24, New guardians 23-24, Red Lanterns 24, GL Annual 2, GL: Relic 23.1)
Vol 5: Test of Wills (27-34)

Vol 7: Renegade (41-47)
Vol 8: Reflections (47-52)
Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps Rebirth (also includes Guy Gardner, Kyle Rayner and John Stewart):
Vol 1: Sinestro’s Law (Rebrith 1, 1-7)
Vol 2: Bottled Light (8-13)
Vol 3: Quest for Hope (14-21)
Vol 4: Fracture (22-29)
Vol 5: Twilight of the Guardians (30, 31 - 33-36)
Present: issue 40 and going.
And if you want to know more about his phase as Parallax, his death, and his phase as The Spectre, check out these (it takes place before Johns’ run/V4):
Green Lantern v3: 001-047 (Pre-Parallax)
Green Lantern 048-050 aka Emerald Twilight (and the start of his Parallax phase)
Zero Hour: Crisis in Time
Green Lantern v3 055, Annual 004, 062-064, 100-106

+ Extras:
Green Lantern / Green Arrow (1971)
Green Lantern: Emerald Dawn (This story is not considered canon, it tells a different origin story for Hal) (1990)
Green Lantern / Superman: Legend of the Green Flame (an independent and autoconclusive story, but it would take place before Hal becomes Parallax) (2000)
As I said, this is my personal recs and it serves to get to know the character and his mythos very well, but if you want to know more about Hal, check this masterpost.

*Both are importants because both tells the origins of Simon and Jessica, but you can read Green Lanterns Rebirth without reading these two volumes.
Where to read it? Well, always you can support the industry and my chlids and buy the comics, but there are several webs where you can read it online or download it, like: 1, 2, 3. I’m sure there are more webs, but these are just a few and the ones I use the most.
