making covers in vocaloid vs. making them in synth v is such a different experience.

vocaloid is so bare-bones in its offerings that you have to make 30 hours worth of tweaks to get it to sound exactly like how you want it to. meanwhile synth v generates something almost perfect on its first try.

it takes out all the work! which is sometimes good, but it feels so wrong to me to not spend five to six days making small micro-edits to a song. id like to clarify, it's totally not cheating — or if it is cheating, it doesnt matter if you cheat. but im still feeling strange that i didnt do boatloads of work to get it to where it should be.

Here's where I once again tell everyone to read Gaelen Foley's Princess. What made me think about this book immediately is that it is a) extremely romantic imo and b) angsty but ALSO there's that same quality of like, the leads in their little bubble? Serafina, a princess, is nearly assassinated/kidnapped early in the book. The head of the guard/king's assassin Darius, who was raised by her parents and has known her since birth (but to be clear is not her adopted brother) decides to have her sent to a safe house, and she basically manipulates the situation so that, despite his reluctance, he has to go with her. Because she's in love with him and he's aware of this and vERY RESISTANT (until he's very much not lmao).

Anyway they spend these weeks in the safe house where they sort of give in to their feelings because the world outside doesn't matter.... though they don't have p in v sex because a) legit not a great idea for Darius to deflower the princess and risk getting her pregnant b) Gaelen Foley wanted to stretch THAT tension out a bit longer while still including tons of scenes where they get each other off and Darius like, writes official missives while using her ass back as a desk lmao.

S.M. LaViolette is another one I'd recommend for really romantic, angsty books. A lot of them also have the leads sort of like.. shut off from the world~ at points. Check out:

Selina. Beautiful heroine was supposed to marry well to save the family, but fails to do so and feels kind of lost after her kinda weird, awkward sister snags a duke and saves the family instead. To find a purpose lmao, she disguises herself as a housekeeper and takes a job at a growly marquess's home, only to discover that he's blind due to a fairly recent accident and is struggling. This one has a similar "is it love tho" conflict, too.

Aurelia. The next book in the same series, this one takes the heroine to this craggy island, where she takes a job drawing/painting the naturalist hero's specimens (not his PERSONAL specimens, but like, the ones he collects on his rich white guy adventures, which are kinda problematic because of the nature of what they are. Again, you have them sort of tucked away, it's romantic, it's angsty, it's fun.

Melissa and The Vicar. They literally meet when the heroine is on vacation; she's a jaded madam (he doesn't know that, though) and he's a virginal, lovely vicar. Romance enues!

Waking up with the Duke by Lorraine Heath, of course. This is the one where the hero's best friend/cousin asks him to get said best friend/cousin's wife pregnant, because the best friend/cousin has been impotent since an accident years ago (which the hero feels was his fault). The hero and heroine (who agrees but doesn't want to feel anything or even share a kiss) go off to his cottage for a month to FUCK NASTY in the hopes of her getting pregnant. Supremely romantic and angsty.

Seduce Me at Sunrise by Lisa Kleypas has the famous moment where Kev (Big, self-loathing, worried he'll kill the heroine who used to have serious health issues with his giant dick) finally gives up on resisting his love for Win (his childhood friend, in love with him, wants to do splits on his giant dick) and spirits her away to this cottage, where they fuck it out for multiple days. This is a great "romantic but angsty" book, one of my favorite Kleypases.

My Darling Duke by Stacy Reid. In this one, the heroine ends up on the hero's somewhat remote estate after she lies about being engaged to him, assuming nothing would ever come of it as he's been such a recluse for the past few years. Turns out he's a recluse because he has to use a wheelchair after suffering an accident. Verrry romantic, verrrry angsty, and I personally appreciated the way the sex was handled (the hero thinks he's impotent; this book is sometimes cited as "love heals his dick", but it's literally not that at all, one of his more progressive doctors is literally like "look dude it works you just can't get past your mental and emotional blocks and let yourself enjoy it).

didnt run into any issues in blender, very straigforward very happy with this. importing it back to maya mainted the uv map. moving on to uv mapping the rest of the objects, will be doing that in maya because i dont expect to run into issues with them.

I implemened IK handles on both the front and hind legs(follwoing mainly the dashund video) and I'm not running into any issues, I'm on an adreneline high right now, last time I worked on a project this was hell on earth

Had we been working with blender I think it would have been a lot easier to find free plugins and tutorials but I digress. It worked great, over the moon for it.

never successfully set up a spline IK, I ran into a major issue BUT following this specific tutorial was great. desipte the rig flipping upside down the spine was actually deforming correctly after a couple or attempts!

after detaching the spines that needed the spline IKs everything went smoothly! wow!!

now i do. gonna continue editing dog pictures for the fur coat because i do not have time for drawing all those hairs, it should get covered by fur, itll be relatively low light, i did ask team if they had time, one said no, the other said maybe, i decided id do it anyway as that wasnt a very solid yes.

i looked for videos on photobashing textures for 3d models and couldnt fidn anything. i didnt have time to install 3d substanc painter and learn to use the new program so i opted to just photobash in my regular art program.

these are the finished textures applied to the model, it doesnt line up perfectly and i messed up the uv map on the dog snout a little which made the end of the snout very very low res but it works pretty good in the final scene as it is far away and in low light, im pretty happy with the result! it also took a lot longer than expected, getting the cut up images to line up and blend together and color adjusting it to work well enough was a lot more tricky then i thought it would be.

the other textures like the eyes and teeth i decided to paint as they didnt need a lot of detail and that was faster

MAXScript errors at 3ds Max startup

Issue

At 3ds Max startup, MAXScript may pop up the following error messages:

Compile error: Can’t find include file: $startupScripts\vrsceneexport.ms

In line include “$startupScripts\\vrscene.export.ms”

“$startupScripts\\vrayinstall.ms”

include "$startupScripts\\vrsceneexport.ms"

include "$startupScripts\\vrayutils.ms"

include "$startupscripts\\vraylightlister.ms"

include "$startupScripts\\vrvismatconvertor.ms"

The errors are usually due to leftover files from previous V-Ray installation or due to incorrect installation/uninstallation of the product.

Solution 1

A quick way to fix such errors is to reset 3ds Max settings to default by following the steps below.

Resetting 3ds Max settings affects all user-made UI customizations. It may also affect other plugins.

Close any running 3ds Max sessions.

Navigate to the following path:C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\

Open the folder for the current installation: i.e. 2020 – 64bit.

Rename the ENU folder to ENU_old.

With the launch of 3ds Max, a new ENU folder is created automatically, and the issue should be resolved. However, if the issue is not resolved, you can restore 3ds Max settings by removing the new ENU folder and renaming the ENU_old folder back to ENU.

Solution 2

Another solution is to locate the corrupted script and remove it from the 3ds Max startup folder.

Find the script-file-name either from the pop-up message or from the MAXScript Editor.  

Navigate to 3ds Max Startup folder: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max <Version>\scripts\Startup

Remove the script file.

Reinstall V-Ray.
