Tree of Love (Aichryson laxum) - while cleaning up some of the plants in my office kitchen, I noticed this plant developing some buds 📷 2) I'm going to NOT google image search this so I can have a pleasant surprise. This is a funny plant in that the leaves smell like dirty laundry and the scent will stick to your skin if you touch them. Vilken superhjälte är det som suger upp olika metalldelar för att bli sig själv? Jag är avslappnad Jag tycker att saker som andra skulle tycka var känslomässigt jobbigt bara är helt normalt och avslappnat Det är härligt at vara en person som glider genom livet utan att hänga upp sig på dittan och dattan och snöra in sig i diverse bekymmer  Jag bara gör min konst och får utlopp för allt eventuellt mörker där  Jag förstår inte hur folk inte kan göra konst Alla människor måste väl ha ett behov av att uttrycka sig och då menar jag inte genom till exempel sport för det är för fan inte samma sak och inte heller måla ägg odla växtgäris läsa böcker  förbannat

Gröna fingrar ger gröna växter ger gröna saker: - Tomatplantor (en liten knodd än så länge!) - Solrosor och nyplanterad squash - Fikusexperiment going strong - Chili (både vanliga och habanero) och någon annan rolig växt som jag hittade och tog sticklingar av - Två avokado, två purjolökar, en basilika och en nyplanterad timjan - Oregano (köpt färsk för typ ett år sedan), basilikastickling, salladslök, avokadokärnor, gullök och ett annat experiment med en rolig växt som jag inte vet vad det är . Jag fick inte jobbet. Men jag fick veta att de gillade mitt cv och att jag var en av 150 sökande, och en av tolv som blev kallade till intervju. Så jag känner mig inte helt snuvad. Marimo ball owners: have you ever noticed your ball sometimes afloat and other times not? - 📷 1) ball is resting at the bottom right now (8:30am). 📷 2) ball was floating last night around midnight. - What could cause this change in buoyancy? Is it metabolic activity differences between night and day? I haven't touched or disturbed the water in the past 2 weeks and I'm certain I've noticed it both floating and sinking. When you appreciate how plants grow, you can accept leaf turnover. This philodendron xanadu only put out a new leaf this past week after having lost a handful of its older leaves in the 2 months that I've owned it. How do I know this is okay? Appreciating how a plant grows will bring you more joy than simply liking the way it looks now. Unfortunately, purposefully or not, plant care advice is written in a way that causes worry. It makes you feel that every visual imperfection can and should be dealt with. . Nature is about survival, not aesthetics. I don't toil in trying to fix every aesthetic "problem", though I do try to understand their origins. . Here are some photos of some of the visual imperfections I've noticed on my monstera. I'm not too concerned because this plant has been living here for over 3 years with good light and being watered accordingly. Any actions to fix something should be thought of as minor adjustments rather than life-saving interventions. . Another installment of #PlantFailFriday - today's example is the diva of ferns: the maidenhair fern. There's also a discussion on watering... . First, the wrong question is this: how often should I water this plant? The right question is: how do I know when this plant needs water? Now you're thinking more along the lines of a *watering strategy* as opposed to a scheduled task. . Given that the plant is growing because it is getting adquate light, there are only 3 main strategies: 1 - keep the soil evenly moist 2 - water when partially dry 3 - water only after prolonged dryness . Problems arise when we try to use a strategy that is incompatible with the plant type and its state of growth, which is determined by its light exposure. For example, the common problem of "overwatering" occurs when someone thinks that they need to keep a succulents's soil evenly moist, when it actually prefers watering only after a prolonged period of dryness. And the onset of root rot is quickened if that succulent cannot see the sun. . For my maidenhair fern, she definitely prefers...no, MUST HAVE evenly moist soil. Because of all the leaf surface area (more stomata through which water loss occurs), the upkeep of evenly moist soil means I have to check the soil frequently. And then there's the urgency: if the soil gets to the partially dry state for even one extra day, the foliage will wilt unrecoverably, as in this photo . But the whole plant may not be dead. One of the most impressive home-grown monsteras I've ever met . 📷 2) the main vine is suspended by a plastic chain so it can be close to the skylight . 📷 3 & 4) the entire plant is supported soil-wise by just a modest bucket at the stair landing.
