"Well she seems pretty upset to me," Orion said, swinging upside down on the bar outside. The world were his monkey bars and he was more than happy to jump around- at least until his mom caught him and told him to get down. "I thought you didn't get caught? Are you in trouble now?"
“I didn’t think I got caught either!” She said, pacing slightly. “But somebody told her because she called me to her rooms to tell me off about sneaking out and running around the city without any protection. Of course someone recognized me, I should’ve used a spell.” She looked just like her mom, if anyone noticed her they probably would’ve realized who she was, even with the makeup she wore. “Do you know where your mom keeps the Grimmerie?” she asked, turning to look at Orion again.

She shrugged. She wasn’t always patient, especially when it came to some things, but she seemed to have endless patience when it came to Orion. “I think it’s just for you. I can be patient in so many ways when it comes to you, you’re family,” she said with a small smile.
Orion smiled. He was okay, not too badly hurt. His big cousin was there with him, and she wouldn't let him get in trouble for his own impulsiveness. "Ninna?" It was a nickname from Orion was learning to talk and the letters in his mouth just wouldn't come out as Linda, but one still affectionate. "How come it's easier for you to be patient then me?"

🎄 | starter for @thisshadeofred – Elphaba
“Are you sure I can’t open just one present tonight?” Linda asked, looking hopefully at her aunt Elphaba. It was Lurlinemas Eve and her mother had to appear at yet another event. She’d been told before Glinda left that she was not to open any of her presents, but a girl could hope.

@thisshadeofred asked:
"Can I hold your hand?" (Thisshadeofred Orion to Linda, cousins be cousining)
affection.
Linda reached over, taking Orion’s hand in hers, swinging their arms as they walked to the park. As usual, they stopped at the candy store and Linda picked out some toffee candy and some taffy for them to snack on. She pulled one of the taffies out of her bag, pulling it open with her teeth and sticking it into her mouth. “Want one?”

[ LAZY ]: sender concedes to receiver's requests for a piggy-back ride home because they don't want to walk anymore, and carries them the rest of the distance home. (REVERSED Thisshadeofred Orion to Linda, big cousin plsssssss carry your baby home?)
carrying things.
Linda rolled her eyes as she crouched down, allowing Orion to crawl up onto her back. “Fine, come on,” she said, smiling despite herself. At this point she thought Orion would be able to walk the distance from the bookshop himself but maybe she miscalculated how tired her cousin was before they set off, even if she had bribed him with a stop for candy.

🎀 | @thisshadeofred hit the heart
“Aunt Elphie?” Linda knocked on the door. “Can I talk to you?” She knew she could always ask her mom, but this kind of question felt like one for her aunt. Besides, she wasn’t sure she wanted to ask her mom anyways.

@thisshadeofred said:
"Linda, this is your baby cousin." (Thisshadeofred Elphie)
Linda gasped, grinning as she held out her arms to hold him. “What’s his name?” she asked, her eyes fixed on the baby. She’d known it was going to be a boy for a while, Aunt Elphie’s visions had already made that clear, but nobody told her what his name would be.

"What's did you do to piss off Aunt Glinda?" (Thisshadeofred Orion to Linda)
“Nothing!” Linda huffed, crossing her arms. “We were just– just talking about when I left the palace unaccompanied.” She knew she wasn’t allowed to, but she needed some time to herself. She’d dressed in such a way she didn’t think that she’d be recognized but evidently that was not the case and the fact she’d done so had gotten back to her mother.

“I thought so but I heard there’s some big secret about him not being as magical as people thought he was or something,” Linda shrugged. She hadn’t thought too much of it given how long ago it was but she knew that even if he had power, it wasn’t as much as people thought.
“I thought that too,” she added, turning the book back to herself and flipping a few more pages. What she needed was something that would last a few hours and wouldn’t take that long to cast.
"I mean, don't all Wizards have magic?" Orion didn't know much about him, other than he was a jerk to his mom. And that was reason enough not to like him. He swung over some railing in the library, looking at the book while hanging upside down. "Casting time is one hour and it only lasts for an hour. That one doesn't seem worth it, even if it can change your height."

“I don’t know if the Wizard actually did have any magic,” Linda commented thoughtfully as she flipped another page. She only knew so much about the man, but it seemed his biggest threat was his charisma. It seemed to rival that of her mom’s, which Linda couldn’t even imagine. “What do you think of this one?” she asked, holding the book out to Orion, her finger pointing at a disguise spell.
Orion read and starting fiddling with his own magic, a well practice shield coming out from his palm. Protective magic was his specialty for better or for worse, even at his young age. Maybe he could hone in on it better and faster if he read the books in his mother's library. "To protect you if the Wizard ever came back." All he knew about the Wizard really was that he had done some bad things to Mama and Aunt Glinda- surely he had some magic as well. "Or some other terrifying mage."

Linda continued flipping through a book, skimming its pages for anything that could help her disguise herself. “Hm?” she murmured before his question sunk in and she glanced at the book in his hands. “Why would you want to learn counterspells?” she asked, closing her book and grabbing another, shoving the first back into the shelf.
Orion also began looking through the books- searching for his favorite one. He still couldn't cast spells intentionally yet, but he loved looking at all the pretty pictures of his mom's abjuration book. When his magic did slip out, it helped to have a picture of what it could look like, to do what he wanted. "Do you think I could do this one?" he asked, no longer paying as much attention to his sister's disguise pursuits, instead looking at spell that could counteract other spells.

Linda took the hot chocolate with a grin, slowly sipping the hot beverage and savoring its rich, sweet taste. There really was nothing on this earth like her aunt Elphie’s hot chocolate, especially with the added Gillikinese treats.
The hot chocolate was finished with ease (and a quick incantation to make the cream into whipped cream). Elphie joined her niece with the hot chocolate with toppings aplenty on the ground in their warm comforting nest as the tree glistened with light. There was no where else she would rather be. "There you go, baby girl." The only thing missing was Glinda.

Linda nodded. “I’ll get the spare blankets.” She went into another room, opening a trunk where some fluffy blankets were stored that weren’t needed on a nightly basis for the bedding. She pulled out an armful, bringing them back into the living room and beginning to arrange them into a warm, cozy nest.
"We won't let her." Elphie turned of the stove top and started heating up the milk and cream for their warm drink. The special was a cute one- geared to those around Linda's age- and Elphie was happy to listen and give into the magic of the season. "Do you want to put together a blanket nest in the living room for us? So we can be comfortable with our drinks?"

“Good, I don’t want her to miss it just because she had to go to a party late tonight,” Linda said, finding some chocolate and giving it to Elphie. She turned on nearby radio to hear what Lurlinemas special was playing so far, it was Lurlinemas in Candy County.
"She will, my pretty. Don't worry." Elphie gave Linda a light kiss on the forehead. Glinda wouldn't be home until at least midnight, and that was if she was lucky. But she and Elphie had worked out where all the little presents and gifts were from Lady Lurline. They weren't sure how many Lurlinemas's they would have left to do such a fun little tradition, and they wanted to make the most of it. "Mama will be home in plenty of time for Lady Lurline to come by."

“I know,” she smiled, looking for the cream. She found some candy canes, setting those out for later. “Do you think mama will be home in time?” she asked, finally finding the cream and setting it out to be whipped
Elphaba chuckled following her young niece into the kitchen. "I'll need your help though. It takes a lot of work to make whipped cream you know." Though the delicious treat would be worthwhile of the labor, even if her niece didn't help. "We'll have our hot chocolate, and we can listen comfortable and cozy. And get to sleep in time for Lady Lurline to leave our presents."

Linda gasped with excitement. “She did?” She knew her mother had left plenty of treats for them to enjoy while they waited up for her to come back from the party she had to attend, but she had forgotten about whipped cream. She didn’t get it very often and the effort it took to whip made it an even lesser occurrence. “What are we waiting for then, let’s make some!”
"I think we could make that happen," Elphaba said with a little wink. She was out of the essential oil to add to the chocolate, but there were more than enough candy canes around that she and Linda could mix in. "And I think your mama left some cream for us to whip up and sprinkles." Glinda had been sure to leave plenty of little treats to make the evening special until she got home. It wasn't the same as having her here with them, but it would do in the interim.
