Tormenting his former partner was just a bonus. “We don’t have all day!” Rick stood beside a large diesel truck at the gates of the fortified town, hand resting on his holstered Colt. “And you REALLY don’t wanna keep us waitin’, man…”

          Blue eyes watched in ASTONISHMENT as strong hands clutched at rotten flesh, pulling the walker away from Rick’s exposed skin. The set of teeth had snapped so close to his arm that the man could almost feel the infection spreading through his veins. An infection that would’ve killed him if it wasn’t for Negan’s fast reaction. But there was no time to recover from the shock. The dead kept on coming. “S-shit. We have to go back!”

            “Are you tryin’ to get me DRUNK?” The faintest smile tugged into his lips as digits tapped on the beer bottle in his hands. Eyes were fixed upon it, mainly to avoid the leader’s gaze. “I’m fine, man. Really.”

           “The kid in the hat.” He mumbled. His breath carried the distinctive smell of alcohol as the words slurred painfully from his lips. His eyes remained locked on the empty bottle that sat before him but his mind was somewhere else. It kept playing scenes from the previous night, where they had encountered that new rebel group. There wasn’t enough booze to stop the thoughts that tormented him. Soon another bottle would follow, its content gulped down as if it was water. He didn’t care about any goddamn points, he didn’t care about Negan melting half his face off. All Rick could think about was how much he had screwed up. “He’s my SON.”

          Rick Grimes didn’t always enjoy the new world order imposed by the Saviors. It was tough, but it sure as hell worked as long as everyone kept their end of the deal. So when he found himself standing in front of the bastards that murdered fifty of their men in cold blood, he couldn’t help but feeling PLEASED. It was fair. A brutal and completely effective way of showing who was really in charge. ‘So now I’m gonna beat the holy hell outta one of you.’ said the man wielding the menacing weapon. A grin spread across Rick’s lips. Justice was about to rain down bloody and tearful upon the strangers. Nothing felt better than that.

          The cold air made Rick’s skin numb, yet not numb enough to spare him from the pain inflicted by several men hitting him over and over again. His body, his arms, his face. They sure as hell taught Rick who was in charge. Starvation had taken a toll on his body, making the former officer’s attempt to fight back completely useless. Still, he wouldn’t give up. That wasn’t on him. Clutched fists collided against one of the men, turning the beat up more brutal. A near deathly beat up that only ceased at a powerful --and oddly familiar-- voice’s command.

          ------ “...Just got carried away?” Rick’s eyes scanned the pile of brains and cracked bone that laid before them. Blood still flowed slowly, a crimson pool forming on the concrete floor. “Shit... Look, man. I ain’t cleanin’ this up.”

SAVIOR VERSE.

          Shortly after waking up at the Harrison Memorial Hospital, Rick runs into a man that saves him from being bitten by the dead. He introduces himself as Negan and --rather amused by Rick’s lack of knowledge-- explains what walkers really are. He also explains the world has changed and the former officer understands tagging along is the best way to survive. However, Rick’s priority isn’t his own life, but his family’s. He parts ways with Negan, hoping to find his wife and son safe and sound. 

After months of searching, he’s still alone. Now Rick knows what the world’s like, what the dead --and the living-- are willing to do to exist. Killing is no longer optional. It’s a necessity. It’s life. Rick Grimes is a changed man. 

Almost a year had passed since he woke up from his coma when he runs into a small group of people. They look threatening and Rick is failing to see a way out. But it’s then when he recognises a loud thundering voice. The leather jacket and baseball bat (which is now wrapped with menacing barbed wire) confirm it. It doesn’t take long for Rick to become Negan’s second in command.

          ------ A smile tugged into the former officer’s lips as he lowered his gun. Panting and trying to catch his breath, his gaze travelled down to the man laying dead only a few feet away from the leader. They were surrounded. Two against an army they had just pissed off. Rick dropped his gun --it was useless without any ammo anyways-- and swiftly drew out his hunting knife, getting ready for the imminent fight. “Shut up. Y-you sound like we ain’t gon’ make it.”
