Pete died in 1997, early into his 20’s, after a series of complications following a nasty case of pneumonia. It was one of those situations where every possible thing that could have gone wrong did, resulting in lung damage.

Not wanting to leave his family, his spirit refused to cross over.

v: in another life (reincarnated)

Following the main verse, Pete’s spirit lingered for a couple of years before he decided to cross over and be reincarnated. In this verse, his legal name is Daniel King. He has no memories of Pete despite looking nearly the same (different scars being the main distinguishing physical difference), however, in the right circumstances, he could remember that life.

v: and pull us through (reincarnated, 2057 timeline)

Similar to the reincarnated verse but takes place in 2057 following the nuclear war. Pete is in between safe zones, mostly scavenging supplies and trying to make the best of things until he comes across the next safe zone. Following most of the main verse only he was bit by a werewolf in 1997 on a camping trip instead of getting pneumonia and dying. He had no idea what was happening to him until after the first few shifts. He is currently on his own but trying to make the best of what he is.

This one follows the main verse a little more closely in that Pete does get sick and put on the transplant list but a member of the medical staff had taken a liking to him and knew a vampire. Pete was too out of it to make the choice for himself but it’s not one he would have made. He tries his hardest to feed in purely ethical ways but he would have honestly preferred dying to becoming a vampire.

Unlike the other verses, Pete was never human to start with in this one. His mom was fae and his dad a witch. He was the product of a short fling and his dad never had the chance to find out about him before ended up in a secured medical facility. His mother swapped him for a human child when he was a few years old, so he doesn’t really remember her. His human mother was great though and she had figured out pretty quickly what had happened but had chose to focus on the positives and doing her best to keep him alive despite the difficulties that being half fae brought about.

In this verse, he is Ajax’s kid, making him the half brother of Dante and Myra and Brynnlie.

"I can't tell if that sounds awesome or like some sort of horrific nightmare." Normally the only people that could see him were other ghosts and not all of them were exactly kind. "So you can just...see ghosts, no problem?"

"Wow, okay, first of all, loaded question. Second of all, I grew up in a town where everyone can see ghosts and it's never not gonna be weird to me that that's not the norm." She often wondered if Amity Parkers could still see ghosts once they left the town, if the place left a mark on them somehow. But it was hard to say.

"It was." He missed his dad, but he understood why the man never came to visit. Losing your kid was hard and the constant reminder likely wasn't good for him. "So I've been told. And I probably will if things start to get...rough, I guess. But for now, I'm content."

"Sounds fun." She could almost see the man who made her reacting that way. Maybe if he'd been a real parent and not a massive dickwad. But that was a thought she wasn't going to dwell on. She went quiet for a moment, trying to figure out how to gently phrase her next statement. "If you can, you might want to move on before that happens. It's, uh, better."

"Yeah, my dad would get real red in the face and start stumbling over his words. It was kind of funny, honestly." His parents had divorced when he was in his teens and while his dad didn't visit his grave anymore, he was certain he hadn't been forgotten. "Yeah, I've seen that happen. Especially with spirits whose graves go unvisited. My mom and cousins still visit mine fairly often. Sarah brought her new baby to my grave last week to "introduce her to me". I know she can't see me, but it's...it helps keep me grounded. I know they'll stop eventually and I'll probably start to corrupt. But, for now, I have things to hold onto."

"See, I don't think my dad has any shame and both my parents are scientists, so they'd find a way to answer any question we asked, but they'd also find a way to make it hella boring if they didn't want us to ask any follow-up questions." She'd been almost too old to experience that, but had still seen them try it once or twice. "This is gonna sound super weird, but I'm gonna say it anyway -- you're also still like... surprisingly person-shaped. And I know that a lot of ghosts can maintain that, sometimes for like... shockingly long. But a lot of them also start looking... scarier? As they start losing themselves, if that makes sense?" Even she and Danny didn't look fully human in their ghost forms anymore.

"Yeah, it was my dad's idea of bonding but then he had to answer questions he wasn't quite equipped for." The memory was clearly a fond one and he couldn't quite help the soft smile that touched his lips. "I lived here my whole life. It wasn't a long life, but still." He nodded at that, understanding how some spirits could be. "Yeah, Star was pretty surprised I had died young, been dead since 1997, and hadn't become something more violent. I guess most spirits in situations like mine end up angry after so long."

"My older sister probably saw it too young? Sounds like something dad would do." Danny probably had, too, but she couldn't explain why her "twin" would've seen something she hadn't. "I've lived a couple places and traveled a little, but haven't made my way to New York. Been all over the midwest, though." She shrugged. "I think it's more than like... her reputation is very, very good. It would be hard to beat. But I mean, you seem chill? So I'm also chill. I tend to just meet the energy I'm given, y'know?"

"Yeah, that movie came out in the 80s and I wouldn't exactly call it a kid-friendly movie. My dad, on the other hand, thought it was absolutely appropriate for kids." But that didn't bother him much. "She's from New York. I do remember that. Upstate New York. I think her mom's a vet on top of being a necromancer, if I remember correctly? Shouldn't be too hard to find her, honestly. But should I be concerned about your reputation?"

"Twenty-two. Not even a little bit of a 90s baby." Which wasn't the problem here, but god, sometimes it was a helpful excuse. "I fucking wish I knew her. I don't know anyone who has that good of a reputation with ghosts. Even... uh. Some of the people from my hometown don't have that great of a reputation with them. Hell, even I don't."

"Only really been three places. The hospital I died, my old house, and the cemetery I'm buried in. I've tried to go other places but I always end up back at one of those three spots. At least there are no weird sandworms." He didn't mind so much, mostly because he had never had much desire to see the world before he had died. "I've only met one other living person that could see me and she had been the daughter of a necromancer, so I think it was just genetic for her. Sweet girl though, very polite."

"No offense but that sounds depressing as shit. Are you like... tied to this town? 'cause if you're not, maybe you should explore the world. I mean, might as well see the sights, y'know?" She'd done a bit of that before moving in with her family. "I know that wasn't a rude question on purpose, but just heads up, I dunno how many people have a non-tragic answer to that question. There's usually trauma involved with gaining the ability to see the dead. Lucky for both of us, I was born this way." Well, not born, per se, but she didn't want to get into the mechanics of being a test tube clone.

"That's...wild. I don't think I've talked to much of anyone not buried in the same cemetery as me since I told my reaper to fuck all the way off." He had haunted his house for a while, but after his mom had moved away, he had mostly stuck to his grave. "How?"

"Little column a, little column b. Like it's mostly fine and basically everyone is just used to it by now? If it's a mean ghost, you get the fuck out of its way. If they're chill, you're chill. We've got ghosts who deal with the mean ones and we just kinda vibe with the rest." It was weird, but it was also just what she was used to. "Yeah?"
