[ SHIELD ]: the sender catches hold of the receiver's shoulder and draws them back and away from a threat, pulling them behind them for their safety.
The Shadowlands' dim light barely made Aeglos shine in its last murderous swirl, when the High King's spear had cleared the path to keep surging forward.
Gil-galad vaguely acknowledged the tug.
Next thing he knew, his field of vision was obscured by Elendil's broad shoulders, towering over whatever threat had been fool enough to stand in their way.
Nearly seven years into the conflict, from battle to battle and into a war that seemed to know no end while it took it all from their threadbare hearts, their fighting styles had shifted to accommodate and anticipate the other's motions.
He would say his thanks later, when those hills had been secured again and they'd be nursing some new scratches back in their camp. Gil-galad moved his feet, turning to stand back to back with Elendil.
"Do you reckon we can make it to those ruins?"
