Phantom was feeling conflicted. It didn't take much for him to consider someone a friend. And he would say he definitely thought of the catcher as just that. A friend. Even if he didn't voice it out loud, thinking maybe it would overstep considering they hadn't met too long ago.
"They don't get ...hurt... do they?" Phantom's main concern here was more so the rats, than anything moral. He'd befriended some people, or ghosts actually, who'd done pretty terrible things. As long as he didn't have to see it happening, he would ignore it. Of course, if he did see something, he couldn't ignore it. Friend or not.
Either way, he didn't like the idea of the rats possibly being harmed. Even if he had to go against his friend at some point, he didn't think he could hurt them himself either. "Maybe I shouldn't have asked what you were doing."

The previously animated activity of feeding the cute rats that gathered around, slowed, almost stopping entirely. Something about those words were taking a long time to process in Phantom's brain. Maybe it was the fact that now that he thought about it, nobody had told him anything like it before. The words made sense and no sense to the boy all at the same time. He was a teenager after all, he probably shouldn't be this way. But nobody who knew what he was had ever done anything but encourage him to keep going the way he was. Frostbite, Clockwork, Pandora, even his sister and friends. They never even questioned that this might be wrong for him to be doing.
Other than Vlad, who wanted him to go in the opposite direction, morality wise.
He was quiet for a moment, unsure of how to respond. "I never.... I never thought about it like that..."
But, even as he considered the other's words, he wasn't sure he could just ignore when bad things happened. Sure, he was low on energy and barely sustaining himself as it was. But what if, like last night, if he saw someone in danger and did nothing? It seemed to happen a lot here, one way or another. What if he was the only one around who could do something?
"I don't know... maybe it does have to be me?" His glowing green gaze turned back to his new friend. "Before ending up here... it was always me."
He didn't know retelling the events of the Diner robbery he stopped the night before would lead to this line of thought. The lady who worked there had been so nice to him all the time. He couldn't and wouldn't have done anything different in his mind.

Phantom gently brushed his thumbs over the edges of his phone case as he thought about the answer he received. He was no stranger to that feeling. Actually it was partially the major driving motive for anything he did.
Part of him tried to reason that there were other ways the rats could be safe and protected. Starting some kind of rat awareness effort, a rat sanctuary perhaps? They listened to him right? It would be easy to get them cleaned and looked at by vets, surely? ...But, those thoughts were probably a result from hanging around his friend Sam for so long before ending up here. She was always advocating for things like that. Danny didn't know a whole lot about his new friends here. Who's to say this wasn't tried before, or there weren't other obstacles in his way. Nobody wants to have to hide in a sewer their whole life, after all.
Even though he had his phone in hand, he began to speak out of habit. The teen caught himself after the first bit of sound escaped him. To Otis it probably sounded more like reverbed white noise than words. His face glowed a brighter green than the rest of the dull white glow his overall form emitted, embarrassed by his forgetfulness.
Phantom seemed to almost hide his face behind his phone, curling around it as he tapped away again. He thanked his tech savvy friend tucker internally, that the app caught when he accidentally typed in ghost language and auto corrected it for him. It wasn't long before he handed the starry themed phone over to Otis again, a new message displayed for him upon the screen.
"Yeah. I'd feel the same, I can't blame you. Are there no other options though? Is there anyway I can help keep the rats safe too?"

As attached to Croc as Phantom was now, the talk of killing someone was still uncomfortable but had become somewhat normal in the time he'd been here. So instead of mulling over that part of the conversation, he thought hard about the question.
"I don't think so... but I've fought ghosts pretending to be Ninjas. It was pretty cringe of them."
Honestly, it was obvious as soon as they started clumsily swinging their weapons. The teen was less than impressed and easily defeated them in probably seconds because they had no cluse what they were doing.
"Why did a Ninja attack you?"
Phantom glanced over the wounds on his friend, worried about the normal things how fast or well they would heal, how much they hurt. But he didn't voice those thoughts, sure they were annoying to hear by now, given how often this occurred with anyone he encountered here.
