The University of the Visayas was founded by the late Don Vicente A. Gullas in 1919 as the Visayan Institute (V.I.) in Cebu City. As  early  as  its  founding,  the  V.I.  had  pioneered  in  education  innovations  to provide  equal  education  opportunities  for  those  who  have  the  capability  and  the desire  for  improving  themselves.  It  was  the  first  to  conduct  night  school  class  for working  students  in  Cebu  City  in  the  1940s.  The  “study  now  pay  later  plan”  had been  a  practice  at  the  V.I.  long  before  it  was  adopted  by  the  Department  of Education, Culture and Sports (DECS) in the 1980s.

In  1948,  the  Visayan  Institute  was  awarded  university  status,  the  first  to become a university in Cebu, and was renamed the University of the Visayas. Since then the expansion in its baccalaureate and post graduate course offerings and in its physical  facilities  has  been  phenomenal.  From  an  initial  enrollment  of  37  students the V.I. evolved into a university with an enrollment of 20,000 distributed throughout its campuses. HISTORY OF UNIVERSITY OF NORTHERN PHILIPPINES (UNP)

The university began as the Vigan High School (present-day I locos Sur National High School) in 1906. It opened its high school in 1927 and produced its first graduates in 1931, when it evolved as the I locos Sur Trade School. They were both in Vigan town. Two of the buildings still exist: one being used as a warehouse for a construction supply firm, the other is the location of the Vigan City Trade Center. President Manuel Luis Quezon converted the I locos Sur Trade School in 1941 through the help of Assemblyman Benito T. Soliven and Governor Pedro Sing son Reyes.

However, World War II halted its implementation. In 1951 the I locos Sur Trade School became the Northern Luzon School of Arts and Trades (NLSAT) by virtue of Republic Act 547. However, Republic Act 2700, or the General Appropriations Act of 1960, converted it back to I locos Sur School of Arts and Trades (ISSAT). It proved temporary: In June 19, 1965, then-Congressman Flora S. Crisologo authored Republic Act 4449.

It was signed into law at the Philippine Embassy in Roppoing, Tokyo, Japan, converting ISSAT into the University of Northern Philippines. Crisologois recognized as the founder of the university. The Condon Community College (CCC) was incorporated into the university in 1989 through Republic Act 6744, through the efforts of then-Congressman Eric D. Sing son. It acted as a semi-autonomous unit. Despite this semi-autonomous status, CCC was split from the university by virtue of Republic Act 10085, also by Sing son, to become the Northern Luzon Polytechnic State College in 2010.

 The minimum qualifying marks that makes a candidate eligible is 60% aggregate in the higher secondary stream with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as major subjects.

Generally the last date for application to MBBS admission in Philippines closes by end of June or mid of July.

The Process of admission is very simple. Submit the application before the time limit and wait for approval. The admission is provided on first come first serve basis.

·         Eligibility criteria includes pass in the school education in 10+2 pattern, with minimum score of 50 % in aggregate in the major subjects as Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

·         Students should have scored a minimum of 50% marks in each of the main subjects, PCB respectively.

·         Students shall provide all certificates that authenticate their qualification while sending application for admission. It includes mark sheets, school leaving certificate, etc.

·         Proof of paying capacity.

·         Must be NEET-UG qualified

  The duration for Philippines MBBS is 6 years including     5-year study and 1-year of internship.

During the MBBS program student study for the duration     of 5-years in some of the best and prestigious medical universities in     Philippines.

If students wish, they can come back to India for     1-year of internship program.

5-years is dedicated to the classroom education of the     students with quality education provided by expert faculties.

For Indian students, they can do 1-year internship in     Philippines and then there is no requirement to do internship in India.

MCI Screening test is mandatory for Indian students who     wish to practice in India after completing MBBS Philippines.

MBBS from Philippines     is quite different from other countries as MBBS is provided as BS-MD     program.

MD is not the post graduate degree, it is MBBS bachelor     degree in medicine which is recognized all over the world.

Philippines MBBS     is segregated into three parts namely BS, MD and the internship phase.

BS is recognized as the pre-medical course which is     known as the foundation course. It comprises of four semesters and the     duration takes 2 years.

After completion of BS program, the students are     eligible for appearing in NMAT Philippines     test i.e. National Medical Admission Test. It is a common admission test     for MD which is conducted by medical universities in Philippines.

It is mandatory for students to clear this examination     to start 4years MD course. In case students fail to pass the examination     then it is compulsory to clear the examination.

After completion of these courses, students are good to     go for the internship phase which they can practice in local hospitals,     clinics or healthcare centres.
