Walking away, when one can, is POWERFUL.
I left my naval career as an Arabic linguist and Petty Officer third class CTI in the US Navy and it saved my life. Zero exaggeration. I was contracted to stay. I had two years left on my US Navy contract as a CTI. I was living in the barracks on base. I was existing within an invisible gilded cage and was STUCK with PREDATORS (multiple) and it genuinely felt like the only escape possible was death.
I almost killed myself so many times I literally couldn’t count them if I tried to give a concise number. I remember how I would write poetry to myself on my notes app on my phone (my only escape beside my car) to keep from exploding and imploding simultaneously.
But I’m a fucking survivor and a warrior dammit and I was not dying like that. I refused to let me be the end of me. My predators and abusers expected me to literally lie down and die. Quietly. They didn’t account for my audacity.
I was loud about how I was barely hanging on. I told doctors and leadership, basically everyone who might have a reason to know it. I advocated for myself so loudly and feircely that I was dying and could not “handle it” for a year (A FUCKING YEAR) before I was cut loose in April of 2019. At the time I was 80% service connected disabled from the VA. Now, I’m 100% service connected disabled from the VA.
I’m too disabled to work any of the intel jobs that I would need a security clearance to possibly do. So I left my life as a US sailor/ CTI/ Arabic Linguist and NSA intel employee behind.
Now a days, I’m an independent artist. I’m a home owner. I’m working on many projects that will open up streams of income once their posted or open to the public. I do still struggle to make ends meet but I finally remembered and now know that I am wealthy and rich and am very deserving of luxury and comfort and that I will manifest myself into being a multimillionaire. But my most precious belonging is that I’m alive. I fucking survived. And every one of my abusers who tried to destroy me failed. I fucking won the war and secured myself inner and outer peace.
I felt like sharing.
Thanks for caring enough to read it if you did.
When we’re new to adulthood, it doesn’t immediately occur to all of us that you’re almost always allowed to leave a situation, because growing up we’re forced to stay in situations until someone dismisses us and/or takes us home, or if we do leave on our own accord there’s someone waiting at home to say “we don’t quit in this family!” Boring party? You can leave. You don’t like the lecture? You can walk out. New doctor not working out? You can end the appointment, you don’t need to wait for them to dismiss you. Bad date? You can just go home. Leaving a situation prematurely might have consequences, but unless you’re under arrest or serving prison time, it’s pretty much always allowed.
