Hey guys, just wondering if any of you have tried AMBOSS for clerkships? I have tried the 5 day trial, and i really like it. The concept is great. Everything is under one place and they have underlined important concepts and keywords that when you hover over the underlined area, it pops up with all the info. They also have images that highlight the areas that you are supposed to focus (so cool for X-ray and CT scans). And the best part of it is that I can access everything on my phone or tablet without wifi as well. I am not promoting AMBOSS, just highlighting some of the cool features i found useful. If you have tried it, let me know how useful you found it for shelf studying and on the wards?

SC1 -聽Obstetrics and聽gynecology
Tumblr media
Resources used:
1- RCSI lectures: The RCSI lecture series for OBGYNE covers everything you will need to know to master this rotation. They are the best resource you can get for the end of rotation exam and the end of year exam.
2- Case files for obstetrics and gynecology: 聽This is a very useful book. It has cases followed by step-by-step diagnosis and management for each. What is great about this book is how simple it is in explaining conditions. Highly recommended book to enhance your understanding of the topics if you have time for it.
3- 聽Uworld: Uworld question bank for USMLE step 2 CK is another great resource for OBGYNE. The questions are very well written and cover all the important topics, very useful for practice before the end of year written exam and the explanations provided for each answer are extremely helpful. 聽
Link: https://www.uworld.com/step2ck/step2ck_qbank.aspx
4- RCOG guidelines: If you really want to take it up a notch. This is the website for the royal college of obstetrics and gynecology, this is where all the guidelines for management in the lectures and in practice are taken from. You will hear doctors mentioning it multiple times. Of course you won鈥檛 study from this, it would be too much for a student and you are not expected to, but what you can do before your final end of year exam is access the website, and check if there are any new guidelines, the latest ones for this year (2017-2018), if there are any download them, then read the summary of recommendations at the very end (usually 4-5 sentences long). There is usually 1 question in the MCQs paper on the latest guideline that has been published if any. 聽
Link: https://www.rcog.org.uk/en/guidelines-research-services/guidelines/
5- 聽My notes: During the rotation I wrote my own summary of notes for the hot topics for both obstetrics and gynecology to make it easy to review just before the end of block exam and end of year. I will share them in a link in the next post if you would like to use them.
How to study and what during the 6 weeks of rotations:
1- RCSI lectures: divide the lectures over 5 weeks of the rotation and try to get them done as much as possible. Leave the last week (the exam week) for revision.
2- Case files: you can take this book with you to the rotations and try and do about 2 cases every day, you will be done with the book in about a month. Just read through it to help you understand the different topics, don鈥檛 learn it by heart, it鈥檚 for your own understanding benefit. If you don鈥檛 have time for it, stick to the lectures.聽
3- My notes: I used these for review on week 6 (exam week). It would be useful if during that week you practice question and answer oral mock exam from the notes with your friends, in preparation for your end of block exam.
The other resources: Uworld and RCOG guidelines are things that I did after the rotation in preparation for the end of year exam.
I hope this was helpful, I will upload my OBGYNE notes for quick review in the next post.
