yo wtf I'm feeling nauseous because I wasn't able to solve an issue on freakin' Linux at work
I hate this
#latest Steam update shows the application as invisible lol#using Ubuntu#I've spent a good chunk of my afternoon trying to launch the damn thing#but everytime I'd kill the process for Steam - it would then bork it and I had to do a complete reinstall#and still having the invisible issue#I fucking hate this

Begging Tumblr users to finally discover Linux
Everyone keeps complaining about Google and advising to use Firefox etc while still using OS produced by Microsoft which is just like Google maybe worse. Linux is literally free and out there, there are so many different distributions produced in different countries and so much free open source software. Go grab yourself a flashdisk and do yourself a favour. Tbh if you get Ubuntu it is very easy to set up(seriously if you managed to download firefox and add Ublock you probably are very much capable of installing Ubuntu), has shit ton of support online, comes with many useful programs preinstalled and you can even get an add-on to make it look more like windows. Nothing is stopping you
Edit: people are also recommending Linux Mint a lot so you can give that a try! (Personally I have never used it but it looks very windows-like at least when it comes to the UI layout)
#the weirdest part about Ubuntu is that you do not have icons on your desktop but an add-on can fix that#as someone who has windows on notebook ubuntu on desktop and whose uni uses ubuntu on all pcs I can say ubuntu is way better#you can also use emulator for programs that were only made for windows#but many good open source programs have a linux version any way#and it has an app store so installing new programmes is way easier#linux#firefox

Got Lubuntu running on my 2010 laptop, probably going to be more entertainment and media focused machine since it has a disc drive/tray I can play DVDs in while my primary windows laptop does not. Might use it for more technical usages but will see.
#linux#ubuntu#lubuntu#TBH I'm honestly a bit conflicted using this way since would like it to be a bit more on the computer programming and engineering side#but ehh#I can use it for both.#and I can run something like Kali or Debian through a virtual machine if I need something a bit more complex

The Linux kernel is the new tower of Babel btw. The only thing stopping God from splitting it into pieces is that Windows still exists so it's still not quite monolithic.
#linux#ubuntu official#ubuntu#linuxposting#btw I used monolithic knowing full well that it was a pun in this context. I'm going to hell when I die

Back at it again with the “The only people who like Linux are masochists who love to suffer” I am fighting with things that shouldn’t be a problem
FireFox won’t properly fullscreen, Trying to manage a WiFi just turns it off; you have to access a whole nother menu just for that, and it seems that Linux Mint just HATES wireless USB mice because I can not get any of the two to stay connected for more than 2 minutes without having to unplug and replug them back in.
#neververy4#linux#this shit sucks why do people keep telling others to use it?#This laptop only has it because it’s a 2009 MacBook and XFCE Linux Mint is about the only thing stable enough to run on the old thing#I hate every second of it.#At least it’s not /directly/ Ubuntu. Ubuntu’s more of a fight

heres your random frustrating fact of the day
#explanation: metric usually uses powers of 10 but data is naturally binary. so theres disagreement over whether to measure data in powers of#1000 (like every other SI standardized unit) or 1024 (very close to 1000 for convenience; however naturally exactly accurate to data units)#usually powers of 1000 are measured with SI prefixes like kilobyte (kB) megabyte (MB) etc#while powers of 1024 are measured in kibibytes (kiB) mebibytes (MiB) etc#apple and some distros of linux like ubuntu choose to standardize on the si style. most other unixlike standardizes on binary style#as this excerpt says WINDOWS SPECIFICALLY AND EXCLUSIVELY chooses to standardize on binary style but displays in si units... which is why#disks that are exactly 1 terabyte will display as mysteriously missing a lot of storage space. because theyre literally using it wrong#(not exactly exclusively because RAM is also counted in binary units but referred to in decade units)#(matters less though because the differential is literally exponentially less)

Also in 2024 I finally finally switched back to Firefox. I put it off for a long time because their sync not working properly burned me in the past and I had to reset a ton of passwords. But now that I'm using it, it actually work better than Chrome's sync.
