Xuanhanosaurus is a theropod known from the Shaximiao Formation of Xuanhan County, Sichuan, China, living about 167 to 163 million years ago, in the Bathonian to Oxfordian ages of the Middle Jurassic. It is known from a partial skeleton without a skull, and the animal itself was about 4.5 meters long. it had strong forelimbs, which would have been used in catching prey. It might be an early derived Metriacanthosaurid, the earliest derived group of Carnosaurs, though its position is still under debate, and it might end up being an early-derived Carnosaur, or even a basal Tetanuran or Megalosaur.
