African Immigrants Have Revived a Remote Corner of Quebec (NYT) Not long ago, the handful of African immigrants in Rouyn-Noranda, a remote city in northern Quebec, all knew one another. There was the Nigerian woman long married to a Québécois man. The odd researchers from Cameroon or the Ivory Coast. And, of course, the doyen, a Congolese chemist who first made a name for himself driving a Zamboni at hockey games. Today, newcomers from Africa are everywhere—in the streets, supermarkets, factories, hotels, even at the church-basement boxing club. A couple from Benin has taken over Chez Morasse, a city institution that introduced a greasy spoon favorite, poutine, to this region. And women from several corners of West and Central Africa were chatting at the city’s new African grocery store, Épicerie Interculturelle. “Since last year, it’s like the gate of hell or the gate of heaven, something opened, and everybody just kept trooping in—I’ve never seen so many Africans in my life,” Folake Lawanson Savard, 51, the Nigerian whose husband is Québécois, said to loud laughter in the store.
Half of senior staffers in Congress are so fed up that they may quit (Washington Post) When it comes to job satisfaction, members of Congress aren’t the only ones considering calling it quits. Only about one in five senior aides on Capitol Hill believe that Congress is “functioning as a democratic legislature should,” and about the same margin believe that it is “an effective forum for debate” on key issues. Given those assessments by the people who live and breathe these issues, this particularly glum finding should not come as a surprise: Almost half of senior congressional aides are considering leaving the Hill because of “heated rhetoric from the other party.” These are just some of the findings from an investigation by the Congressional Management Foundation, a nonprofit that aims to improve both lawmaker effectiveness and constituent engagement.
Baltimore Bridge May Trigger Historic Marine Loss, Says Lloyd’s of London (Bloomberg) Insurance payouts for Tuesday’s collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore could be among the largest ever in marine insurance, according to Lloyd’s of London Chief Executive Officer John Neal. “This has the potential to be one of the largest marine losses in history,” Neal said in an interview with Bloomberg News on Thursday. “It’s a multi-billion dollar loss. I think it has to be but I think it is a little too early to say what you actually think it’s going to cost.” Insurance claims for damage to the bridge alone could reach $1.2 billion, Barclays said in its note, predicting further potential liabilities of $350 million to $700 million for wrongful deaths and yet-to-be-determined amounts for business interruptions while access to the city’s port is blocked.
The Baltimore collapse focused attention on vital bridges. Thousands are in poor shape across the US (AP) After a yearlong closure, a bridge over the Puyallup River reopened in 2019 with a sturdy new span and a brand new name. It even won a national award. But today, the Fishing Wars Memorial Bridge is closed again after federal officials raised concerns about a vintage section of the nearly century-old bridge that carried about 15,000 vehicles a day. It has no timetable to reopen because the city of Tacoma, Washington, first must raise millions of dollars to clean and inspect it. Bridges fulfill a vital function that often goes overlooked until lives are lost or disrupted by a closure or collapse, like that of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore early Tuesday. That bridge crumpled when struck by a cargo ship, not because of poor maintenance. But thousands of others stand in worse shape. About 42,400 U.S. bridges are in poor condition, yet they carry about 167 million vehicles each day, according to the federal government. Four-fifths of them have problems with the legs holding them up or the arms supporting their load.
Gunmen in Ecuador kill 8, injure 8 others in attack in coastal city of Guayaquil as violence surges (AP) rmed gunmen attacked a group of people in Ecuador ’s coastal city of Guayaquil killing eight people and injuring eight others, the Interior Ministry said, the latest in a string of violent incidents in the South American country. It was the second mass killing in as many days. On Friday, five people who had been kidnapped were killed execution style in the coastal province of Manabi by an armed gang. Police said there were signs the victims were tourists mistakenly caught up in a local drug-trafficking dispute.
When 18 nuns walk into a Spanish bar... (Reuters) A congregation of Catholic nuns has reopened a bar in an ancient sanctuary in northern Spain, pulling pints of beer in the hopes of spreading the word of God to thirsty guests visiting the 11th-century Romanesque site. “I think plenty of people would think it’s unusual, because they’ve never seen it. But you know, it’s not a sin to drink a beer,” said Miami-born Sister Guadalupe, adding that the bar constituted an “open door for us to evangelise”. The sisters, who belong to the Pilgrims of the Eucharist order, have taken over operations at the bar in the Sanctuary of Estibaliz outside the Basque city of Vitoria from its previous owners, a cadre of Benedictine monks, who had let a local association run the bar. The monastic brothers had lived there since 1923 but left in September 2022 due to dwindling numbers and old age. Last year, 18 nuns—most of them Colombian—moved in to look after the sanctuary and its pilgrims. “I love it because I always see them so happy and with a smile, they transmit a lot of peace and joy,” Maria Elena Saez, who expects to become a regular, said of the nuns.
Troop-Starved Ukrainian Brigades Turn to Marketing to Attract Recruits (NYT) Skyscraper-sized billboards show assault troops in battle gear emerging from a ball of flames. On street posters, soldiers urge passers-by to enlist, proclaiming that “victory is in your hands.” Take a seat on a high-speed train and chances are high that a television will be advertising jobs for drone operators. Slick recruiting campaigns brimming with nationalist fervor have become ubiquitous in Kyiv, the capital, and other Ukrainian cities in recent months. They are perhaps the most visible sign of a push to replenish Ukrainian troops depleted by more than two years of a brutal war—an effort that experts and officials say is crucial for fending off relentless Russian attacks. But most of the campaigns are not the work of the country’s political and military leadership. They are the initiatives of troop-starved brigades that have taken matters into their own hands, shunning an official mobilization system that they say is dysfunctional, often drafting people who are unfit and unwilling to fight.
Chinese ad for under-30s triggers outcry from older job-seekers (Reuters) A job advert from a Chinese grocery store seeking cashiers aged 18 to 30 has triggered a flood of anguished social media posts from older people scrambling to find work in a sluggish economy. Some said the ad highlighted the plight of a huge middle-aged section of the population as the government focuses on fighting high youth unemployment and finding positions for another record year of college graduates. There is no specific law against age discrimination, though state media last year criticised employers for “discriminatory” hiring practices, including seeking younger and cheaper workers, in what became widely referred to as the “Curse of 35”. “I’m 29,” one commenter wrote on Weibo. “I’ve been laid off three times since I graduated. Now, no one has replied to my resume even if I (write) I am unmarried and do not have a child.”
Dispute Over Conscription for Ultra-Orthodox Jews Presents New Threat to Netanyahu (NYT) Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is facing his most challenging political threat since the start of the Gaza war because of a disagreement among members of his coalition about whether ultra-Orthodox Jews should retain their longstanding exemption from military service. An unwieldy right-wing alliance of secular and ultra-Orthodox lawmakers, the coalition’s members are divided about whether the state should continue to allow young ultra-Orthodox men to study at religious seminaries instead of serving in the military, as most other Jewish Israelis do. If the government abolishes the exemption, it risks a walkout from the ultra-Orthodox lawmakers; if it lets the exemption stand, the secular members could withdraw. Either way, the coalition could collapse. Criticized by many Israelis for presiding over the October disaster, Mr. Netanyahu is trailing in the polls and faces growing calls to resign. But until now, there were few obvious ways in which his coalition might collapse.
U.N. observers hurt in Lebanon blast (Washington Post) Four members of a United Nations peacekeeping team were injured in a blast in southern Lebanon, near a contentious demarcation line shared with Israel, the U.N. Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) said in a statement. “The targeting of peacekeepers is unacceptable,” UNIFIL said, adding that it was “investigating the origin of the explosion.” The Israel Defense Forces denied any involvement. According to UNIFIL, an explosion happened Saturday when three military observers from the U.N. Truce Supervision Organization and an interpreter were conducting “a foot patrol along the Blue Line” near the Lebanese town of Rmeish. They were evacuated for medical care, UNIFIL said. Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency said the military observers were from Australia, Chile and Norway and said they had been “targeted by an Israeli drone.” Hezbollah-affiliated Al-Manar TV also said there was “preliminary information” that an Israeli drone was behind the attack, citing its correspondent. Neither provided any evidence for the claim, and The Washington Post could not immediately verify the reports.
Extreme drought in southern Africa leaves millions hungry (AP) Delicately and with intense concentration, Zanyiwe Ncube poured her small share of precious golden cooking oil into a plastic bottle at a food aid distribution site deep in rural Zimbabwe. “I don’t want to lose a single drop,” she said. Her relief at the handout—paid for by the United States government as her southern African country deals with a severe drought—was tempered when aid workers gently broke the news that this would be their last visit. Ncube and her 7-month-old son she carried on her back were among 2,000 people who received rations of cooking oil, sorghum, peas and other supplies in the Mangwe district in southwestern Zimbabwe. The food distribution is part of a program funded by American aid agency USAID and rolled out by the United Nations’ World Food Programme. They’re aiming to help some of the 2.7 million people in rural Zimbabwe threatened with hunger because of the drought that has enveloped large parts of southern Africa since late 2023. It has scorched the crops that tens of millions of people grow themselves and rely on to survive, helped by what should be the rainy season.
Pope presides over Easter Vigil (AP) Pope Francis presided over the Vatican’s somber Easter Vigil service on Saturday night, delivering a 10-minute homily and baptizing eight people, a day after suddenly skipping the Good Friday procession at the Colosseum as a health precaution. The Vatican had said Francis skipped the Good Friday procession to ensure his participation in both the vigil service Saturday night, which usually lasts about two hours, and Easter Sunday Mass a few hours later. In his homily Francis referred to the stone that the faithful believe was removed from Christ’s tomb after his death. Francis urged Catholics to remove the stones in their lives that “block the door of our hearts, stifling life, extinguishing hope, imprisoning us in the tomb of our fears and regrets. Let us lift our eyes to him and ask that the power of his resurrection may roll away the heavy stones that weigh down our souls,” he said.

About me!
Hi there, my name is Ramiro and I go by he/him pronouns. I was originally born in Fort Smith, AR but from the young age of 2, my parents decided to move to Puyallup, WA where they first met. I now live in South Seattle where I have been living for the past 14 or so years. My favorite movie of all time has got to be Cars the Pixar film, this film first sparked my interest in motor vehicles and it's also very entertaining to me. One of my favorite things to do is play the sport of football (soccer) I have been playing since second grade where I wasn't allowed to play at first but through perseverance my mom allowed me to. Other than soccer I really enjoy trying out new sports such as boxing and skateboarding both of which I have just picked up over this past summer. I would say I am a homebody but I do enjoy leaving my room to do whatever. When it comes to writing I am not the best but I do always try my best and at times I do enjoy writing about random things. Reading on the other hand, I would say is not my strong suit as I don't really read books and I always have trouble following the plot of any book unless it's a short story. As for technology, I do have access to Wi-Fi, computers, printers, etc. There is no word processor I prefer as I have used both Google Docs and Word during my time in high school and middle school but I do find it easier to work my way around Word just because I have used it more than Google Docs. One thing you should know about me from a scholar perspective is I do sometimes struggle staying focused on long topics and just start staring into space because my brain is always thinking about something.

Disappearance of Susan Powell
On the morning of December 6, 2009, Susan, Charles and Braden attended church services. A neighbor visited them at home in the afternoon, leaving at about 5:00 p.m. This was the last time Susan was seen by someone from outside the Powell household.
At first, the entire Powell family was reported missing on December 7 by relatives. Joshua's mother, Terrica, and sister, Jennifer Graves, went looking for the family at their house shortly after being informed that the children had not been dropped off at day-care that morning. They called the police when they failed to make contact with Joshua and Susan. The police broke into the house, fearing that the family were victims of carbon monoxide poisoning. They found no one inside, but noticed two box fans blowing at a wet spot on the couch. Susan did not show up at her job on December 7; her purse, wallet, and identification were all found at the house. Her cell phone was later found in the family's only vehicle, a Chrysler Town & Country minivan, that Joshua had been using.
Later that day, at about 5:00 p.m., Joshua returned home with the two boys and was taken to the police station for questioning. He claimed he had left Susan sleeping at home shortly after midnight on December 7, and had taken his boys on a camping trip to Simpson Springs in western Utah. Police visited Simpson Springs on December 10, but found no evidence of the campsite that Joshua had described. They also found it suspicious that Joshua would take his young boys out camping in blizzard conditions after midnight when he was scheduled to go to work at his job just hours later. Joshua had not told his boss that he would not be coming into work that day, and explained to police it was because he had thought it was Sunday rather than Monday.
Upon searching the Powell residence on December 9, investigators found traces of Susan's blood on the floor, life insurance policies on Susan for US$1.5 million, and a handwritten letter from Susan expressing fear for her life. DNA test results, released in 2013, matched one blood sample with Susan, while another sample was determined to have come from an "unknown male contributor".
In August 2012, West Valley City police released documents showing that Joshua took actions that were regarded as highly suspicious following Susan's disappearance. Joshua liquidated Susan's retirement accounts, cancelled her regularly scheduled chiropractic sessions, and withdrew his children from daycare. He had also previously spoken to co-workers about how to hide a body in an abandoned mineshaft in the western Utah desert.
Police interviewed the couple's elder son, Charlie, who confirmed that the camping trip Joshua described took place; however, unlike his father, he stated that Susan had gone with them and she did not return. Weeks after her disappearance, a teacher reported that Charlie had claimed that his mother was dead. Furthermore, Susan's parents, Chuck and Judy Cox, claimed that while at daycare several months after the disappearance, Braden drew a picture of a van with three people in it and told carers that, "Mommy was in the trunk".
Investigators informed the media that they planned to question Joshua again, and subpoenaed all footage and interviews (aired and unaired) of Joshua from local television stations. On December 14, Joshua retained an attorney in connection with the investigation, and police said that he grew increasingly uncooperative. A few days later, he took his sons to Puyallup to stay with Steven for the holidays. By December 24, Joshua was considered a person of interest in the investigation. On January 6, 2010, he returned with his brother, Michael, to pack the family's belongings, indicating he was moving permanently to Puyallup.
On September 22, Steven was arrested on charges of voyeurism and child pornography after police found evidence that he had secretly videotaped numerous women and young girls, including Susan. John Long, assistant attorney general for Washington State, said that Joshua was a "subject" in the child pornography investigation. Chuck Cox filed for custody of Susan's children the day after Steven was arrested. A Washington court eventually granted Cox temporary custody of the boys, ruling that Joshua would have to move out of Steven's home if he wanted to regain custody. Joshua rented a house in South Hill, but authorities later alleged that he had never actually moved into that house, merely making it appear as if he had satisfied the court's instructions while continuing to reside at Steven's home.
In late September 2011, Joshua's sister Jennifer stated that she believed Joshua was "responsible for his wife Susan Powell's disappearance". His other sister Alina had also been suspicious of him as well; however, she later withdrew her suspicions and felt that Joshua had been unduly harassed by the investigation.
In late 2011, Joshua underwent a series of court-ordered evaluations in Washington. The evaluations by James Manley determined that Joshua had adequate parenting skills, a steady employment history and no criminal record or history of domestic violence. However, Manley also raised issues concerning the ongoing criminal investigations, Joshua's failure to admit normal personal shortcomings, his overbearing behavior with his sons, and his persistent defensiveness and paranoia (attributed to the police and media attention in conjunction with underlying narcissistic traits). The initial recommendation was for Joshua to have visitation with his sons several times a week, supervised by a social worker.
In the last week of January 2012, Utah police discovered about 400 images of simulated child pornography, bestiality and incest on a computer seized from the Powell family home. The pornography had been cached when viewed by the previous owner of the computer, which had been purchased by Susan secondhand. However, Utah authorities misled the court and accused Joshua of having viewed the images. The images, while not illegal due to their being in a hand-drawn or cartoonish 3-D format, were cause for "great concern" to Manley, particularly given Joshua's earlier denial of possessing any such material. Joshua was recommended to receive a more thorough psychosexual evaluation and polygraph test, but Manley suggested no change in the visitation schedule with the Powell boys.
On February 5, 2012, social worker Elizabeth Griffin Hall called 9-1-1 after taking Charlie and Braden to a supervised visit at Joshua's house in South Hill. Hall, who was supposed to monitor the visit between Joshua and the boys, reported that he grabbed them and would not let her through the door. Soon thereafter, the house exploded, killing Joshua and the two children. Local authorities treated the case as a double murder-suicide, saying that the act appeared to have been deliberate.
After a relatively brief investigation, officials confirmed that the explosion had been deliberately planned. The official cause of death for Joshua and the two boys was determined to be carbon monoxide poisoning, though the coroner also noted that both children had significant chopping injuries on the head and neck. A hatchet was recovered near Joshua's body, and investigators believe that he attacked the boys with it before being overwhelmed by smoke and fumes. The fire investigation also found two five-gallon cans of gasoline on the premises, as well as evidence that gasoline had been spread throughout the house.
Friends and relatives of Joshua told authorities that he had contacted them by email minutes before the incident to say goodbye. Some of them, including his local bishop, received instructions for finding his money and shutting off his utilities. Records also showed that Joshua had withdrawn $7,000 from his bank account and had donated his children's toys and books to local charities the day before the incident.
On February 11, 2013, approximately one year after the death of Joshua and his sons, Michael killed himself in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he had moved for graduate school. He jumped from the roof of a parking garage. Police had questioned Michael several times in 2012 after discovering his abandoned Ford at the Oregon wrecking yard; Michael was "evasive" about why he left the car at that location. Utah authorities have since said they believe that the brothers, Joshua and Michael, were accomplices in the murder of Susan.

Looking at Mount Rainier, what word comes to your mind first?
Tall? Yes, 14,410 feet above sea level at the summit.
Volcano? You bet. Monitored by park staff and the wonderful folks at the U.S. Geological Survey.
Glaciers? Got lots of them. 25 cover the mountain. These rivers of ice are the source of many of our mountain’s rivers of water.
Glacier and snow are what feed the rivers and creeks of Mount Rainier. As the snow melts in the spring and summer, it swells the creeks and rivers. The snowmelt brings many gallons of icy cold water down the river channels. But as summer takes over, with more sunshine and warmer temperatures, the glacier ice also begins to melt. Its the melted ice of the mountain’s glaciers that keep water in the rivers and bigger creeks (like Tahoma, Kautz, etc) throughout the summer. In fact, summer is our dry time and we get little rain until the fall.
The Carbon Glacier is the lowest reaching of the glaciers on Mount Rainier. Unlike Alaska, we don’t have any that reach sea level but the Carbon comes the closest at 3,600 feet. Its a bit of hike to see the Carbon River from the Carbon River entrance of the park. 5 miles up the old road (hikers and bicyclists on this closed road only please) and then up the Wonderland trail for about another 4 miles to see the glacier. (Reminder, glaciers are dangerous places. Please do not try to get close.)
This melting end of the Carbon Glacier is the beginning of the Carbon River. From here, the melted ice will flow down through the town of Carbonado and then Orting, where it joins the Puyallup River. With the Puyallup, the melted snow and ice of the Carbon will make its way to Commencement Bay in Tacoma to add their fresh water to the Puget Sound. A short trip but pretty amazing when you think it starts on Mount Rainier as the frozen ice of the Carbon Glacier.
When was the last time you visited the Carbon River entrance of the park? Have you hiked or biked the old Carbon River Road or hiked on the Wonderland Trail along the Carbon River? Please share you favorite memories of this special place. ~ams
Reminder, there is currently a washout on the Carbon River Road outside the park entrance. Parking is limited. Trail conditions can be rough in spring and early summer. Please use this webpage to look at conditions. https://www.nps.gov/mora/planyourvisit/trails-and-backcountry-camp-conditions.htm You can contact park rangers at the ranger station but hours can be limited until summer. https://www.nps.gov/mora/planyourvisit/hours.htm

The Districts of the Seattle Sourcebook (1st Edition): Tacoma: The District That (Doesn’t) Stink
It’s half-namesake, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (Sea-Tac), is not located near Tacoma at all, but rather well across the border into Downtown. That was always the case – the old city of Tacoma got semi-naming rights back in the 1940s for chipping in about only 10% of its construction cost, and the name just stuck.
It’s a good thing they’re free because neither pitons nor coffeepots are listed in the Equipment chapter.
Second in area only to Puyallup, Tacoma is a bigger district than downtown and has a huge swath of Puget Sound shoreline, stretching from Des Moines in the north to Dupont in the south, leaving Fort Lewis only about a mile of water contact.
What Tacoma is known for, in 2050, is hate crime.
The Night of Rage.
From the core rulebook:
In 2036, the napalm fire-bombing of a small community in rural Ohio announced the arrival of the New Terrorism. Twenty people, most of them metahumans, died in the flames on that Sunday morning. A group calling itself Alamos 20,000 claimed responsibility. Over the next 15 years, this terrorist group was positively linked to the deaths of more than a thousand metahumans and publicly sympathetic normals.
Three years later, metahuman hatred peaked in the Night of Rage. Worldwide riots resulted in the deaths of thousands of metahumans and others cosmetically altered to appear metahuman. In New York City alone, 836 such persons perished. There were backlashes and incidents of counter-violence.
Exactly where in the Metroplex this occurred isn’t detailed until the adventure DNA/DOA, where it is a major plot point:
As you move past some old, burned-out warehouses, one of you realizes this is the area Alamos 20,000 used to corral and burn thousands of Metahumans during the Night of Rage some eleven years ago.
The introductory fiction in the adventure gives a retelling of the Night from one of the survivors:
Out in the street were hundreds of Orks, Trolls, Dwarfs, and Elves huddled together in the cold, their homes also having been declared “health hazards”…
As if prodding them into action, the voice came on again. “Transport vehicles will arrive shortly to take you to the docks. From there, the liner Asian Princess is waiting to set sail for the deplacement center near San Francisco. This is part of a nationwide resettlement program. Your cooperation in this matter is encourage. Repeat. Your cooperation in this matter is encouraged.”
All along the Tacoma waterfront that night, indeed all across the North American content, the flames of hatred against Metahumans were fanned. Whether that first warehouse fire was set deliberately is still a matter of dispute for some, but within the first hour, Tacoma’s entire downtown district was gutted.
The Seattle Sourcebook, then, picks things up from there:
Bitter memories of the Night of Rage and the hundreds of Metahumans who died in the warehouse fires on the docks of Tacoma are still fresh in many people’s minds, particularly for the few Metahumans still living in the district.
(though from the district’s demographic data, its metahuman population, by percentage, is not greatly different than the other districts)
# Plot Hooks: 15
Organized Crime
Mafia -- Minor
Yakuza -- Major
Seoulpa -- Minor
Go-Gangs -- Major
Places of Note
The Crying Wall
Address: E 11th St & St. Paul Ave. Located near the docks of Commencement Bay, this monument was built by Orks and Dwarfs to commemorate those who died in the Night of Rage.
Sea-Tac Mall
Address: S 320th St & Pacific Hwy. Site of the former The Commons At Federal Way, this is one of two malls given explicit locations on the district map and a full page color ad in the book, because even in the future, people still need access to Auntie Anne’s pretzels.
Tacoma Purple Haze
Address: S 25th St & Jefferson Ave. Noteworthy only that it is one of many bars/restaurants tagged throughout the Seattle Sourcebook as being a hangout for the “hottest shadowrunners at the moment”, and giving the GM an ideal location to start a run or have a great food fight.

Despite up to 95% of car sales happening at a dealership, buyers begin their search online. It is clear to most marketers that the key to bringing new leads is online advertising. Nevertheless, this strategy of marketing used vehicles comes with distinct challenges.
It is difficult to gain the trust of your leads. Leads can only become customers when they get to the dealership. By being smart around advertising, used car dealers in Washington can overcome most trade challenges.

An Analysis Of Wrecker Service Puyallup
The core duty of a wrecker service is tow totaled vehicles, but it's also important to provide minor repairs. Although wrecker services focus primarily on towing, they can improve their customer experience by offering minor repairs that will enhance the mobility of the vehicle. Minor repairs may include tire inflation, battery jumpstarting, or part reconnection. Here are some examples of minor repairs a wrecker service should provide. They can be a great way to attract new customers.Do you want to learn more? Visit wrecker service Puyallup
A wrecker service is a company that transports damaged or broken-down vehicles to a junkyard. These services are highly professional and are a good option if your car is a total loss. In addition to towing, wrecker services can also help you dispose of old vehicles that are no longer needed. This service can also move redundant vehicles to a junkyard. Once a wrecker service picks up the car, the owner can easily retrieve it from the junkyard.
In addition to towing, wrecker services can also provide repair services on-site. Wreckers are equipped to safely transport all types of vehicles, including trucks that are equipped with hydraulic ramps. Hook and chain tow trucks are also available. These wrecker services have additional axles to support heavy loads and are used for vehicles that can't be moved by a normal tow truck. If the wrecked vehicle can't be safely towed, a wrecker service will arrive with its own repair crew.
To start a wrecker service, you need to acquire a conditional use permit from the Joint Planning Commission. The Joint Planning Commission will investigate the application within ten days. Once you've received your permit, you'll have to make sure that the operation will not affect the area's quality of life. The Joint Planning Commission will review your application before it is approved or denied. Applicants will be required to display the permit number on their vehicles.

Light duty towing includes 90 percent of cars on the road, such as passenger cars, minivans, SUVs, and pickup trucks. Light duty towing is the most common type of roadside assistance and emergency towing service. It is often required when the tire on a vehicle has a flat tire or the car has skidded off the road during winter weather. You can learn more at Puyallup towing company
To operate a towing business, you will need a valid commercial driver's license (CDL), which is issued in classes. You must obtain a class A CDL for standard cars and a class B CDL for larger vehicles. You must also acquire a Certificate of Occupancy (COR) from the local government authority before starting your business. In addition, you must carefully review zoning laws and building codes to ensure compliance.
If you do not feel comfortable using a towing service, you may want to consider contacting the city or county where the towed vehicle is located. Towing companies should always contact the city's DPS, or the Better Business Bureau, if there is a complaint. The DPS will investigate the complaint and take action against the violating company. Generally, a towing service must be part of lawful law enforcement activity and never perform a non-consensual tow.
Besides providing immediate roadside assistance, a towing service should also offer other services, such as fuel delivery, changing a flat tire, and jump-starting vehicles. Some towing companies prefer to operate under a business name other than their own, such as DBA. If you decide to use a DBA, be sure to obtain domain name security for your website. Furthermore, it is important to set up a legal business entity so you won't be personally liable if your business fails.
When you've had an accident, it is important to document all the damage to your vehicle, as well as that of the other vehicles. This is important for future legal issues, insurance purposes, and towing liability. Some insurance companies cover a specific towing provider, so it's best to be sure that yours will be covered if an accident occurred. If you're unsure of your options, contact your towing provider for recommendations.
A towing company's ability to respond quickly to customer requests is a critical aspect of its business. People want their vehicles towed quickly when they break down, while property owners want to get a car off their property quickly. Because of this, speed is a vital factor in competition among towing companies, and it can be the difference between getting your call and being overlooked. Often, government agencies have contracted multiple towing services and choose the company that responds the fastest.
While owning a vehicle comes with a lot of responsibility, it is crucial to have a plan when you're stranded. This can mean anything from gas refills to changing tires, and from car registration to pulling you out of a muddy ditch. A professional towing service can make the difference between an uncomfortable situation and a full-blown disaster. You'll be glad you contacted a towing service if you're stuck on the side of the road.
