what brushes do you use
For colouring/painting: Flat Square (by Jingsketch)
For sketching/lineart: HB pencil (by Procreate)
I play around with other brushes sometimes but the vast majority of my art from the past 5 months (maybe longer idk) has been made with these two

Hello! I think that your art style is beautiful! I was wondering what brush you used for sketching/lineart.
Thank you, have a great day!
this is always funny bc i just use the regular hard airbrush in procreate. like the most basic of the basic airbrushes yep that’s the one 😭
for lineart i just keep the sketch and erase/redraw parts with different line thicknesses and weights using that. same brush 💀 there might be a brush that does it better but idk i like the feeling of being able to control the lineweight instead of thickness relying on pressure
#ask koko#i’ve also tried the jingsketch basics square/rectangle brushes and they are very nice!! but they are very flowy and i prefer to make lines#sharper and blockier so they don’t fit well with my style. but they are very nice overall if that is your preference i highly recommend!! :#btw i also use that airbrush for everything ngl. like apart from flat colors with a textured brush it does. everything else#tldr we stan procreate default hard airbrushes fr 😔✊✊

If its not too invasive, can I ask for brushes or other resources you may recommend? I'm plenty aware they don't make an artist good, but I'm always on the hunt for the perfect ones!
Oh, I am always on what feels like a never-ending hunt for brushes, I only use Procreate these days so these are Procreate brushes, at the minute I am really really enjoying these brushes called Frappe Pencil I love The Frappe Pencil Neo and Double Frappe smooth, you can see me using them in the last sketches I posted I think I solely used them in the drawings of Dhalia! I also really like the water-coloured brushes from Fatima Mandouh. There are some brushes that I also use a lot that are from paid brush packs like the TGTS - Scratchy squeegee and GvW InkAmigo Waterson Dry (that's the one I use to draw Horizon Walkers) the Jingsketch brushes are also really nice. I also like a few of the base brushes from Procreate, I love Nikko Rull, but I did edit mine a bit to be a wee bit more textured, I also like Eaglehawk, Tinderbox and Oberon. Resouces wise I use Magic Poser if I am having trouble getting a pose down, as well as taking reference photos of myself. I also use an app called Freeform that is kind like an inspo board where you can see everything at once, I use that for like background character outfit references and city references. I hope that's helpful! I tend to jump pencils quite a lot, so if there is ever an illustration i do that you want the breakdown of what pencils I used if I can remember which one it was I am happy to share!
#pencils may not improve someones skill per se but they can inspire someone and help them improve#having a good pencil always helps me and can inspire me so its good to share them!#if anyone else has any pencil reccomendations please share! I love finding you pencils to add to my absoloutly shocking collection

hey don’t mean to be one of those people, but i was wondering what brushes you used? your line art is absolutely gorgeous, envy of the ball etc etc. Sorry if you’ve answered this before
Tysm!! I like lineart the most I think,,,I use a lot of brushes and change my main brush every few months haha but generally I like ink brushes that are really loose and have dynamic weight to them. The main one I’m using these days is that last one.
Here’s a link to all of them!

sorry I hope this isn't annoying to ask, but i just got procreate (switched from ps) and i was wondering if there were any brushes you recommend? 👉👈 you're one of my favorite artists on this app, thanks for your gorgeous work
Hii! Thank youuu i'm glad you like my work!!♡
Procreate has a ton of cool brushes but i pretty much only use four for everything bc i'm used to them now :D the default round brush, HB pencil, a brush called Siddheshwar's canvas and another one called soft chalk from jingsketch basic 10 brush pack. I'm pretty sure you can download the last two for free if you look them up!

Hi angel!! I was wondering what brushes you use on procreate and what your canvas size is?
hi hi!! i’m happy to share ^^
i have these preset canvas sizes for various purposes—my personal favorite is the “🍰” one - it’s like an in-between size from a full-size art on twitter and something not too small? it’s a comfortable size for me, and one i use the most.
as for brushes -
these three jingsketch brushes are my go-to’s, and the jingsketch dry fountain pen is like my ~soulmate brush~ lmao i always go back to it; i love it! i generally like my art textured and a little noisy, so i use something chalky for blushes or shading, and these 3 brushes i feel get the job done very well for me.
jingsketch brush pack: https://jingsketch.gumroad.com/l/JingsketchComplete
procreate default brushes i use are dry ink for lines (and coloring), nikko rull (for blushes and shadow texture), and i also REALLY like tinderbox - mooshdudes whose sketches i’ve been obsessed with uses it really well:
https://www.instagram.com/moosh_dudes?igsh=MTVobHc2Z2Z1ZzdwdA==
i also regularly use the 6B pencil brush on procreate; if i want to draw something soft, i use this brush to both sketch and color, like the ones below fully drawn with just this brush ♡
my more recent art though i’ve been making use of ayeoops brushes—i’ve been obsessed with the crunchy pencil! the thickness and noisiness of it allows me to draw fast and without too much precision, if that makes sense? the everything brush i like to use for more delicate lines; the crackly brush i’ve been using more for coloring and for lineless art. honestly i don’t think you can see much of a difference in my art from the brushes i use 😅 so i doodled a little bit of brush theory to see the difference.

hope this has helped somewhat! 🤍

OMG i'm about to become ipad baby (getting procreate finally!!!) and i'm shaking i'm so excited, WHAT PENCIL BRUSH DO YOU USE? i feel like you've said it before but your lines are SO YUMMY and i wanna chew on them 👁👁, i'm so excited AHHHH!!! sorry ahfgaskjfga
Yeaaahhh!!! Wahoo!! Can’t wait to see what you create!
My brushes are SOOO messy, I have so many brushes for like lining, I go with what I’m feeling that day but I pretty much have 4 main ones
Narinder Pencil is from Procreate, Wet Sketcher I got years ago when someone posted their brushes for free, Beloved and Round Brush were some default brushes I edited so so so much, I’ll upload my brushes here! This was a file I shared to my brother when he first got procreate and asked what brushes I use. Mostly though I just use Beloved, it's my comfort brush.
Other really good sets that I have downloaded which I use on occasion are:
Starter Olguioo Pack Vol. 2 (Marker Liner for sketching is so good)
Fish's Brush Set (Lining brush my beloved, also their amogus brush is genuinely really good)
Jingsketch Brushes, Emilyamiao brushes

ARTIST OF THE WEEK @midearthlingart ✨
This week's AOTW is Laz aka midearthling, and any AOTW event intending to bring classic ofmd art back into circulation would be incomplete without them <3 She agreed to answer a few questions for me and shared some great tips for beginners:
- Which do you use to draw (app/digital or traditional)?
I think everything posted here is digital, done mainly on Procreate, although I have started using Art Studio Pro more recently and I really like it (also an iPad app but available on other machines afaik!). I do like to doodle and do studies in my sketchbook though, I think it's good to keep me sharp and for a change of pace! And sometimes ideas come easier that way. But any completed pieces tend to be digital.
- Fave brushes/pencils/mediums (links/screenshots?)
On procreate I'm partial to using jingsketch basic’s flat brush, it’s so versatile for sketching and painting! Other brushes in my regular rotation are the default chalk and 6b brushes from procreate. I also have a soft ‘photoshop’ brush that I use to flat in colours, and a round brush I downloaded that I often use for sketching too; unfortunately I can’t remember where I got either of those ones but I’m pretty sure they were free! Sometimes I use random texture brushes, and the default watercolours in procreate.
- Your favourite piece you've drawn?
I go through phases of really loving some pieces and then hating them again (I often dislike my own art!) One of the best things I ever drew is a very nsfw comic so I unfortunately can’t share it on tumblr lmao. But in its stead, I think this and this have a special place in my heart.
- Who's harder to draw: Ed or Stede?
Honestly it just depends on the day! Both can be difficult to capture for different reasons; oddly I think for me I don’t have Ed’s face pinned down as much as I do with Stede’s. I’ve drawn them so much at this point I can bang them out without reference most of the time, but every now and again I’ll have a difficult angle and need to reference again! Stede’s nose is my absolute favourite to draw though.
- One essential tip for beginner artists?
Keep going! References and 3D models are your friend! It’s okay to make studies of other people’s works in order to learn (just don’t share and try to pass it off as your own!) Tracing photos to learn is also fine too, these are all just tools to help you hone your skill.
- Why OFMD? 🥹
It did something to my brain! I remember watching it back in March 2022 when there were only 6 episodes out at the time, I binged in one go and then the very next day watched all of them again. It just felt so cosy! I watched initially when I heard about it because I already loved Rhys and Taika’s works so needless to say it was hook, line and sinker from me from the start—I did not stand a chance! When it turned out to be a queer, middle-aged love story I knew it would be special to me forever.

hi, im new to tumblr and just discovered your art and it's so fascinating and smooth and textured at the same time, it rlly captures a look i want to have in my own art so i wanted to ask what mediums you use/softwares you'd reccomend
hope youre having a good day/night !!! <333
welcome to tumblr! I hope it's not too scary
and thank you so much! I just use Procreate + my Apple Pencil most of the time, but sometimes I'll use Clip Studio instead.
For Procreate, the main brushes I mostly use are Jingsketch Brushes and TheBrushGarden's Star Stamps.
Hope that helps at least a little bit 💫

HELLOOO!!!
OK SO, i use only two brushes to draw which are gesinki ink, found at the bottom of the inking section of the brush library, and flat square which i downloaded from a brush set (FREE BTW) called jingsketch basics — SUPER USEFULL BRUSHES!!

TWST Process!
So I got a comment this morning asking if my Ignihyde piece was a Memoji---a thing I immediately had to google to even know what that means lol I'm not mad, no shade to OP but it really threw me for loop to be asked if my art is a customizable avatar.
I know this blog is mostly my fun little sketches or side projects but I am a professional artist! Even if this is a silly little side project to keep my brain from falling it the abyss, it's still my art I drew with my own hands and it's important to me for people to know that!
Process breakdowns below the cut! it's not very detailed but figured i'd be fun to show a peak behind the curtain!
First things first! I do all of these in Proceate on my iPad! These are very casual and just for me to have fun--I'm very burnt out after my associate art direction job on Hit Monkey so I'm just trying to give myself a tiny piece of joy so I can get myself back to drawing my web comic and merch for cons/my store.
I draw each dorm in their own file just to keep things from getting too cluttered. The group shots I do separately in another file. So I'll finish them, flatten them and paste them into another file to size them up together/add backgrounds/effects. I included screenshots to show the breakdown of the original drawings along with the group shot. Nothing too fancy. Also forgive all the unnamed layers x_x I am usually incredibly organized but typing on my iPad annoys me so I tend to not name Procreate layers. You can see where I thought about it by naming ONE layer.
Here is the timelapse for The Ignihyde boys! You'll notice I keep Ace+Deuce in the file--I use them as a base reference for the stylization. I stylize everyone a bit differently but I try to maintain some consistency. I also reuse some bits of their palette as a piece of that consistency. You can also see me go 'oh yeah Ortho's hip thing goes all the way around so we should see it behind him........oh no. nvm that looks bad.' lol
What was most important for me to sell with these two was the difference of their personalities. I was aiming for that 'Someone will die' 'of fun!!' vibe haha So I wanted Idia very compact and to himself while Ortho is energetic and friendly. I also wanted to bring some design elements of Hades face to Idia's face. His bangs cover it up but I gave him a long nose that starts right from his brow the way they stylize them in the movie. I also gave them more color to their skintone but kept Idia more ashen/desaturated--I liked the idea of him looking kinda grey to match Hades instead of just pale.
Here's the non-default brushes I use--Jingsketch brushes are available here and the free comic brushes I got from Di Brushes. I'm usually a default brush kinda person but Procreate's default textured stuff wasn't really doing it for me anymore. I really like using stuff that looks more like pencil or pastel. I've also been addicted to adding noise a lot to my pieces. I know that's not the most original thing in the world but idk, it looks cool. My group shots always get a layer of noise.
But yeah, that's it! These are purposely kept pretty simple so I can knock each one out in about two hours or so. More detailed dorm outfits obviously take longer--I hand drew all the patterns on the Pomefiore kids like a mad man. Every time I erased the edges, I went 'I should probably copy and paste this' and then never did. I love making things harder for myself lmao
See y'all in Diasomnia! (I also have plans to draw my MC and Grim so Diasomnia won't be goodbye~)

Hello! I hope you don’t mind me asking, but what brush do you use to create your digital artwork?
Hi! No, of course I don't mind at all 🥰
Here's the breakdown of my most used brushes:
Honestly 95% of my work really is just the "Pencil Grad" brush for sketching, my modified "6B Pencil" for lineart, and the "Soft Brush Texture" and "Gouache" brushes for everything else!
The "Jingsketch" brushes are part of a pack that I had purchased from [here on gumroad!]
For the life of me, I cannot remember where I got the "Pencil Grad" brush from, but the "Angled Sketching Pencil" from the Jingsketch brush pack is super similar in how it behaves!
As for the modifications I made to the default Procreate 6B Pencil to make it more suitable for my tastes for lineart, I really only just slightly increased the streamlining and stabilization, removed some of the pressure-sensitive opacity behavior, and increased the brush flow! Basically, I wanted it to be just the tiniest bit more sensitive, smooth, and opaque but still retain some of that sketchier/gritty quality 🤌
Lastly, these aren't brushes, however I feel like they've become very integral to the "look" of my art because I just looooove the last step of adding one of these to finish off a piece– but I use the paper textures from JessicaElena [here on Etsy] over my whole artwork, set to "overlay" and it just adds that grainier, cozy paper look that I just adore 🥰
