The creative team is constantly subjected to bullying by trolls online. Please do them a good turn and leave them a positive review on IMDB or on their social media pages.
This show means a LOT to a ton of people. Please practice kindness wherever you can.
If it helps, Adam Lambert sang the theme song and he also plays a MAJOR character! If you can't do it for us, do it for him??? (does he use he/him pronouns? internet search wasn't clear.)

Chapter 1 (the letter) will x lisi au
7 a.m. November 17, 2023
Today is the day.
At four p.m. Lisi will find out if she is accepted to play in the world juniors her third year in a row.
A month prior Lisi received the letter in the mail stating that she was a possible draft prospect and to keep up to date if the world juniors wanted her. It's not that she was really nervous about not getting a chance to return to the team but almost half of her freshman season was cut short due to a shoulder injury.
At seven sharp Lisi heard the piercing noise of her alarm clock going off. She groaned and turned over turning off the alarm before putting the covers over her head. She was never much of an early riser. Just as she begins to doze back off there's a knock on her bedroom door.
"Lisi can I come in?" a small, shy voice from the other side of the door calls out.
Elliot.
Elliot is Lisi's younger brother- the baby of the family who has been attached at the girls hip since she could remember. He has always had a habit of getting up before everyone else and waiting outside her bedroom door for the alarm clock to go off before asking to come in.
Lisi lets out a short sigh before responding. "Sure bud comm'on in." Not even a second later Elliot is rushing into the room straight on to Lisi's bed.
Elliot looks up at her and whispers "Are you nervous about today?" Lisi looks up at her little brother with a slight smile "Only a little bit, nothing crazy to worry about." He smiles before it slowly fades from his face, "If you leave I'm not going to see you for a long time." Lisi's eyes soften at the little boy "Don't worry too much babe, it's only a couple of weeks."
"Yeah I guess." He mumbles. Lisi pauses for a minute before speaking up "Tell you what, let me get ready and you can come with me and Allison to get breakfast and get ready tonight." Elliots eyes light up before bolting up from the bed "Really?!" Lisi almost laughs "Yes really now go get ready or I'll leave you here." She warns. Before she can say more Elliot is up from the bed and halfway down the hallway.
After Elliot is out of the room, Lisi gets up from bed and starts to get ready for the day. She throws on some straight legged-light washed jeans and a baggy graphic t-shirt before brushing her hair.
---
As she walks down the stairs her phone pings twice.
Going into the living room Lisi takes her phone out of her back pocket and see's that she has a text from her best friend and an unsaved number in her phone.
iMessages
Alley Cat: im ready for ya whenever u get here ;)
Lisi: gotcha be there as soon as E's ready <3
Lisi smiles at Allison's text before getting another message from the unknown number.
iMessages
xxx-xxx-xxxx: yo future miss usa cap we're in madison rn if you want to meet up
xxx-xxx-xxxx: oh shit this is ryan btw
Ryan? Ryan who? Lisi scrunched her eyebrows before texted back.
Lisi: um ryan who sorry?
xxx-xxx-xxxx: damn you don't see someone in four months and the forget who you are :(
The lightbulb went off in her head before she grinned and rolled her eyes.
Lisi: leonard. that's totally not my fault i have your old number. if anything you forgot about me when you didn't send me the new one.
Ryan Leoser: um well thats irrelevant anywho you wanna meet up with us

---
Lisi grins before turning off her phone before calling out to Elliot. "Let's go bud we got a lot to do today." Elliot comes rushing down the hallway before making it to the door.
As they walk out to Lisi's car she speaks up to her brother "Do me one favor El?" He looks up at her with curious eyes "What?"
Lisi tries to hold in her laugh "Never become as annoying as Ryan Leonard."

The Helix Nebula from CFHT Image Credit: CFHT, Coelum, MegaCam, J.-C. Cuillandre (CFHT) & G. A. Anselmi (Coelum)
Explanation: Will our Sun look like this one day? The Helix Nebula is one of brightest and closest examples of a planetary nebula, a gas cloud created at the end of the life of a Sun-like star. The outer gasses of the star expelled into space appear from our vantage point as if we are looking down a helix. The remnant central stellar core, destined to become a white dwarf star, glows in light so energetic it causes the previously expelled gas to fluoresce. The Helix Nebula, given a technical designation of NGC 7293, lies about 700 light-years away towards the constellation of the Water Bearer (Aquarius) and spans about 2.5 light-years. The featured picture was taken with the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope (CFHT) located atop a dormant volcano in Hawaii, USA. A close-up of the inner edge of the Helix Nebula shows complex gas knots of unknown origin.

DAY 5584
Jalsa, Mumbai June 1/2, 2023 Thu/Fri 1:05 AM
Birthday - EF - Barun .. Manish Singh Rajpoot AB Ef .. June 1, 2023 .. and all our wishes on this special day
Thursday, 1 June🪔 .. once again we regret missing your birthday on May 31 , Ef Amit Agrawal from Seattle USA 😔 .. apologies .. and the wishes are ever sincere and filled with love ..
🪔 .. birthday joys to Ef Arko Majumdar from the city of joy - Kolkata .. remain in well being and prosperity ..
Penchant for greater detail .. penchant for the information and meanings of the many that we never dared to seek .. or we did the absence of the place to go or discover through such designs that knew .. and now with the benefits of availability the power of the knowing has become passé ..
That disturbed condition that prevailed us all in the lack of it and the innocence to ask for fear of being ridiculed .. is now over .. in conversation that element of informed knowledge and the inquisitive requisite has faded beyond all horizons ..
Bring up any topic today and the rest of the personnel in discussion already know .. nothing is unknown .. where and what the conversation rests today is the private lives of the human .. what he wears , where he goes , and many other ..
The medium of information now harbours reaction, your input on a controversy , and opinion that has become prevalent ..
The Informative communicative machinery .. informs who sneezed when and where .. which destination the eating took place .. and the response to a query that has been put up by them .. they not definitive , in case it creates controversy and thereby loose their credibility and dignity .. but put it out with that mosts remarkable insignia the QUESTION MARK .. ????
Out with the communication in the form of information, but to justify legality, put out the question mark on it .. a protection for them , and the believability of the head line for the subject ..
I am ok .. it does not matter or concern us if it is not ok with you .. and your correction or denial gives them further content to fill up the multitude of informative content that can be run for hours and days ..
EG.,
so and so FINISHED .. ! screams head line .. point made to be read seen and believed .. but followed soon after with the question mark ? .. gives the institution its protection ..
I am ok .. may not be ok for you .. because my accusation was a question not a statement of fact .. 🤣
Provoke not the silence of the defeat .. for within that silence shall build the sound of victory ..

wip intro ; calla lilies.
Format borrowed from @coffeeandcalligraphy (here). Genre: Adult apocalyptic fantasy. Status: Currently drafting (wordcount updates at end of post)
Synopsis: A day that begins as a host to Calla’s great aunt’s funeral comes to an end in the middle of nothing more or less than a zombie outbreak. Miles from home and without any sort of vehicle, Calla must make it home to her family - her pack - before something happens to them (or her). At her side is Sienna Bradley, the weird kid from high school all grown up: a powerful sun witch who is a force to be reckoned with. When they take on a ten month old baby to save his life, things only get more complicated.
Setting: small country town USA. Vibe: climbing over a chain link fence - slicing open your shins on the cold metal. an unfamiliar gun in hand. rage boiling beneath the skin, promising retribution. abandoned cars clog the highway. tripping over a crack on the sidewalk, bloodying your knees, not allowed to cry. the shuffle of the dead, feet scraping across the concrete. wishing, wanting, waiting for home.
Characters:
Calla Singh (POV - 28) werecoyote; blunt but confident.
Sienna Bradley (27) sun witch; flighty but whimsical.
Rhee Moon-sik (24) human; sensitive but level.
"Robin” (10 months) baby; stubborn but sweet.
Calla’s family will also play a part in the story, but we’re not there yet.
Excerpt:
Stepping into the unknown is a force of nightmares, and yet it is one that I take readily; the only other option is to send Sienna out first with the baby, or to never leave this old building until it falls down around us or something drags us from it kicking and screaming. The thought of that is enough to push me out the door, a hand back to warn Sienna against coming right after, and I must face what is beyond the last inch of safe space that I am leaving behind.

Candi Miller, 41 (USA 2022)
(NOTE: At the time ProPublica began circulating the case, Candi’s manner of death was UNDETERMINED and suspicious factors remained unknown. This is a post to clarify what is actually known and what is still unverified. I also want to clarify that the sale of the abortion drugs was legal only through a questionable loophole.)
Georgia’s laws unambiguously allow maternal healthcare. It was never illegal for a woman to receive lifesaving medical treatment, and the abortion ban is written in a way that allows doctors, not politicians, to have the final say in what constitutes a threat to life and health. But pro-abortion propaganda spread the myth that the abortion ban made health care illegal, and it was this myth that would lead Candi Miller to lose her life.
Candi Miller and her family
Candi was diabetic and also suffered from lupus and hypertension. Regardless of pregnancy, she needed medical attention already. She was afraid of potential effects of the pregnancy on her health. However, she did not see a doctor because of misinformation that she and her family unfortunately believed.
Opponents of the Georgia heartbeat law continuously spread the lie that pregnant women could not receive treatment for pregnancy complications. The law clearly stated otherwise, but Candi didn’t know that. The myths scared her so badly that when she realized she was pregnant, she didn’t even try to go to the doctor. She loved her family and was described as being quick to stand up for her children, but she thought an abortion might be her only way to survive.
Because of the alarming misinformation, Candi was scared enough to undergo an abortion without even seeing a doctor to assess the situation first. She bought abortion pills over the internet using the drug dealer site Aid Access, which as of 2023 conducted their dealings by exploiting a legal loophole. A “doctor” in another country who would never meet Candi would “prescribe” the pills legally and then send the drugs through the mail, making it legal— at least on their side of the computer. (In 2022, however, this “shield” loophole was not the one they were exploiting.) The dealers claimed that the pills were safe despite the FDA’s warning to stop, which they blatantly ignored.
And it was because of these lies that Candi was scared out of going to a doctor. These lies led her to have an abortion out of fear, and to take black box drugs without medical supervision. When she began to suffer from side effects, she still did not see a doctor because she had been falsely told that the law would keep them from treating her. She didn’t even get an ultrasound to find out how far along she was.
Candi suffered an incomplete abortion, which caused sepsis. Because of the lies and misinformation about state laws, she didn’t seek any medical attention. Her teenage son watched his now-bedridden mother moan in pain for days before she needlessly died with her 3-year-old by her side.
Although ProPublica covered Candi’s death, they tried to blame her death on the law that clearly did not ban healthcare. They also did this even though at the time of publishing, Candi’s manner of death was undetermined. In addition to the decaying tissue left behind by the abortion, she was found to have a lethal combination of painkillers in her system. This included the active ingredients in Benadryl and Tylenol, but also Fentanyl. Suspicions were raised on where the drugs had even come from. There was no history of drug use in her records, and even her family did not know how she got them. One theory was that Candi may have accidentally overdosed herself while trying to self-medicate, and another was that she committed suicide out of desperation to escape her pain. However, in the window where Candi had taken the drugs, she could not get out of bed. The manner of death— suicide, homicide, accidental or another category— had not even been determined when ProPublica came to her house, took pictures of her children holding her ashes and publicized the case.
AidAccess, which had previously been told by the FDA to stop violating regulations on dangerous drugs, refused to accept responsibility for killing Candi. They claimed their deadly pills hadn’t killed her, even though they were what caused the incomplete abortion, sepsis and the intense pain that may have driven Candi to take her life (whether intentionally or not).
Had Candi seen a doctor in the first place for the medical treatment that was unambiguously allowed, she could still be alive— and maybe her child would be too. Telling scared people that it’s illegal for them to receive care can have deadly consequences, and so does supporting shady drug dealers that operate on legal loopholes. It’s time to hold Aid Access accountable, along with any other predatory dealers that exploit fear and end lives.

Hairless Chimp On His Missing Ear Side #shorts by SloggerVlogger Jambo's journey has seen moments of challenge, such as the loss of his ear in November 2018, believed to have occurred accidentally during a group altercation. His resilience shines through. Twycross Zoo made efforts to reattach his ear using skin glue, but unfortunately, Jambo's persistent picking resulted in complete loss. It doesn't hold him back and according to staff, he's still the alpha male of the group as of 2023. #hairlesschimp #SloggerVloggerShorts Make sure to hit that subscribe button and enable all notifications so you never miss a thing. He has had alopecia, a form of hair loss since his youth. Born on June 9, 1982, his daughter Genet and his mother Coco (1965) share the same habitat. Coco is the oldest animal at Twycross Zoo. Jambo's siblings from his father's side, Holly (born December 27, 1982) and Jomar (born December 28, 1990), are also in the same habitat. His half-brother William, born on June 30, 1982, and his first son Peter are in neighbouring enclosures. In November 2018, Jambo lost his ear, possibly due to an accidental fight with his mother. Attempts to reattach it with skin glue failed as he continued to pick on it. In October 2022, he also lost a toe, with the cause unknown but possibly related to fights and agitation during mating season. In 2018, the chimpanzees received a new habitat called "Chimpanzee Eden." It spans 1,160 square meters and includes two seven-meter-high indoor spaces connected to a large outdoor area with climbing frames and huts. Building my Liturgical Calendar 2023-2024
Sat in the sun for solstice yesterday. Didn't have a lot to do for it, but I was able to take a nap on the porch with the sun at my back and warm on my skin.
I think I've decided on some points/activities of my liturgical year. Here's my thoughts for the next calendar year. This is not 100% finished, as I want to incorporate more gods into my worship calendar, but this is a helluva start. My practice is pretty lax, and I want to tighten that up nowadays.
Under a cut for length.
What kind of things do other folks do for your practice? Do any of these match up with your practice? I'm curious!
Super Moon: July 3, 2023
Moon at closest orbit to Earth. Ritual for Mani.
Name Day: July 11, 2023
Day my name change was officially legal. Maybe something to Loki!
Gotcha Day for Saga: August 1, 2023
My baby boy Saga will have been with me for two years! I don't remember if this is specifically the exact day, but after checking my texts about getting him, I've decided on this date. He's such a good kitty cat. Ritual to Freyja. Get him treats and new cat toys.
Super Moon: August 1, 2023
Moon at closest orbit position to Earth. Ritual for Mani.
Perseid Meteor Shower: Mid-July to August, predicted peak August 13, 2023
Do something witchy or just bask in the beauty that is space.
Lokabrenna: August 20th, 2023. I used this In-The-Sky calendar calculator to find when Sirius would first be visible at my latitude. Here's some tips from the Reddit user I got the link from.
Not sure what I'll do, but I'll probably not be able to actually see Sirius in the sky. Maybe some like. fox shaped cookies or otherwise themed food and some cinnamon tea out on the porch? Maybe I'll write something and offer it to Loki. I don't have an altar, so since everyone will be asleep then (it'll be "visible" from 06:14 to 06:17 local time), I can use the table outside for some private time with Him. At any other time: bonfires are good, anything to do with flames.
Blue Super Moon: August 30, 2023
Second full moon in a single month, also super moon. Ritual for Mani.
Gotcha day for Ríma: September 1, 2023
My baby girl Reems will have been with me for two years! Much like with Saga, I don't remember the exact date, but it was approximately a month after he came home. Ritual to Freya. Get her treats and new cat toys.
Dating Anniversary: September 15, 2023
The start of Beloved and I's official relationship. Ritual of thanksgiving to Frigg. Celebration of Beloved. Maybe do something with Loki and/or Sigyn, too? I read about a ritual of 'holding the bowl' for Sigyn that really resonated with me. What an act of devotion.
Birthday: Mid-September
Can I make something witchy here? I'm sure I can.
Autumnal Equinox: September 23, 2023.
Probably something food related? Something sun and moon or fall related. Apples, harvest, wheat, corn. Maybe dedicate a harvest food to Yngvi-Freyr. Hang out in the garden. Ponder the natural balancing/opposing forces: night/dark, summer/winter, spring/fall, etc. Joint ritual for Mani and Sól.
Super Moon: September 29, 2023
Moon at closest orbit position to Earth. Ritual for Mani.
Some Point During Fall: various, unknown
I want to do something with Hel here. Maybe this year once things even out in my personal life I'll start looking at the local cemeteries and see if they need volunteers for grave keeping/tending.
Winter Nights/Disablót: October 28, 2023.
I've read that it's on the first full moon after the first new moon after the fall equinox. Something dedicated to Yngvi-Freyr, as thanks for the last of the harvest. More food. Something disir related? I've just read this article in Patheos's Happily Heathen column about the holiday. Definitely more research to be done. New year? Need more research.
Thanksgiving (USA): November 23, 2023
Secular "holiday", but still important to my family. Participate in prep for celebration, make something for dinner. Quality family time.
Geminids Meteor Shower: Estimated duration: November 19-December 24, predicted peak December 13-14
Do something witchy or just go stargazing and enjoy the beauty that is space.
Winter Solstice/Yule: December 21, 2023.
Ideas: Stay up all night to witness the coming of the dawn, stay up rest of day. Drink cocoa with marshmallows and cinnamon to stay warm through the night, moon/winter themed foods. A ritual to Mani and Odin. In the weeks leading up to Yule, make little gifts for friends and family. I made a handful of these felt goats last year!
Research more heavily into Yule being on the full moon after solstice. If that is the case, Yule will be on the 26th.
Christmas: December 25th, 2023
Not heathen, and basically secular in my family, but important to my people. Gifts, tree, sweets/food, etc. Quality family time. Maybe find a way to go volunteer somewhere. Lord knows my fam makes me crazy.
Vernal Equinox: March 19, 2024.
It's too early for the garden, so I'm not sure what. Maybe go buy some flowers for Grandma? Try to get out in the sun, if it's not too cold. Ponder the natural balancing/opposing forces: night/dark, summer/winter, spring/fall, etc. Joint ritual for Mani and Sól.
April Fool's Day: April 1, 2024.
Trickster and well-meaning pranks day. I'm not really one for pranks, so I'll probably just read some stories of about Loki. The story of Thor's wedding, anyone?
Sigrblót: April 23, 2024
Fourth full moon after the first new moon after the winter solstice, as calculated by using timeanddate.com. Three day-three night festival marking the beginning of summer. Food and celebration, for sure. Source some mead? Probably able to work in the garden.
Mother's Day: May 12, 2024
I kinda want to do some genealogy work with mom. Maybe make a list of my ancestral mothers and reflect on their lives a bit, think about how their lives went to make it possible for me to be born. Celebrate mom. Well. She doesn't much care for celebration, but I'll try to do something more than "here's some money for buying books".
Memorial Day: May 31, 2024.
My grandpa was a vet, so if next year is like this year, I'll go with mom and grandma to the cemetery to visit and clean/beautify the graves of him and grandma's side of the family. Doing this is about as close as I get to ancestor veneration. My family is Mormon, so reciting a prayer to Hel over their graves isn't super appropriate, but I have Her in my thoughts as I spend time amongst the headstones.
Pride: June 2024 (various)
Joint ritual to Fenrir as wrongfully oppressed and Loki as breaker of chains. Volunteer in the community for events and build frith.
Father's Day: June 16, 2024
Similar to Mother's Day. I want to do some genealogy work with mom. Maybe make a list of my ancestral fathers and reflect on their lives a bit, think about how their lives went to make it possible for me to be born. Celebrate dad. Maybe take him out for a movie and dinner. (This year's FD (2023) was pretty meh since I'm broke. I'm going in on a gift with my brother, and hopefully it'll arrive next week-ish.)
Summer Solstice: June 20, 2024.
Stay up all day to witness the coming of the night, stay up rest of night. Eat/drink something seasonal (lemonade of whatever variety?), maybe fruity popsicles to stay cool through the day. Sun/summer-themed foods. A ritual to Sól.
Other non-calendar thoughts:
I want to start a formal reading and reflection of the Hávamál. Like... I don't know. The thing that immediately comes to mind is the practice of reading Bible verses and reflecting in a special journal. Maybe it's my cultural xtianity speaking, but something like that appeals to my desire for structure.
Likewise, do a formal reading of the sagas/eddas.
Do more research into holy days and occasions for Odin, Hel, Fenrir, Loki, Sigyn, Jormungandr, and maybe Bragi.
Dedicated magical creativity sessions, maybe?
Monthly offerings to gods.
Something for landvættr.
Do more space witchery! It's good for the soul!
Build frith through the community using regularly scheduled volunteer activities.

Phillis Wheatley: The Unsung Black Poet Who Shaped the US
She is believed to be the first enslaved person and first African American to publish a book of poetry. She also forced the US to reckon with slavery's hypocrisy.
— Rediscovering America | Black History | New England | USA | North America | Tuesday February 21st, 2023 | By Robin Catalano
When the Dartmouth sliced through the frigid waters of Boston Harbor on 28 November 1773, the Quaker-owned whaler carried a cargo that included 114 chests of British East India Company tea. Eighteen days later, the tea, along with 228 additional trunks from the soon-to-arrive Beaverand Eleanor, would play a starring role in the US Colonies' most iconic act of resistance, which ultimately led to the Revolutionary War.
In the Dartmouth's hold was another precious cargo: freshly printed copies of Poems on Various Subjects, Religious and Moral, a collection by Phillis Wheatley, the first enslaved person, first African American woman and third female in the US colonies to publish a book of poetry. Her life and work would become emblematic of the US struggle for freedom, a tale whose most visible representation – the Boston Tea Party, when American colonists protested Britain's "taxation without representation" by dumping tea into the harbour – celebrates its 250th anniversary this year.
Evan O'Brien, creative manager of the Boston Tea Party & Ships Museum, said, "Our mission, especially this year, is to talk not just about the individuals who were onboard the vessels, destroying the tea, but everyone who lived in Boston in 1773, including Phillis Wheatley."

Actor Cathryn Philippe, who interprets Wheatley at the museum, connected with the poet's remarkable accomplishments. "You often hear about the tragedy of enslavement, which is a part of history that needs to be understood. But we don't hear much about the joy or successes of enslaved or formerly enslaved Africans."
Wheatley was born in what is now Senegal or Gambia and was abducted in 1761 when she was just seven or eight years old. Forced, along with 94 other Africans, aboard the slave-trading brigantine Phillis, she survived the treacherous Middle Passage, which claimed the lives of nearly two million enslaved people – including a quarter of the Phillis' "cargo" – over a 360-year period, and arrived on Boston's shores that summer.
“We Shouldn't Hesitate To Call Her A Genius”
Frail after eight weeks at sea, the girl caught the attention of wealthy merchant and tailor John Wheatley. He purchased the child as a gift for his wife, Susanna, and renamed her after the vessel that had spirited her away from her home.
Phillis showed a natural aptitude for language. David Waldstreicher, professor of history at the City University of New York and author of the forthcoming biography The Odyssey of Phillis Wheatley, said, "She became fluent and culturally literate and able to write poems in English so quickly that we shouldn't hesitate to call her a genius."
Despite Wheatley's connection to the Boston Tea Party, her legacy remains largely unknown (Credit: Robin Catalano)
Although the Wheatleys were not abolitionists (they enslaved several people, and segregated Phillis from them) they recognised Phillis' talents and encouraged her to study Latin, Greek, history, theology and poetry. Inspired by the likes of Alexander Pope and Isaac Watts, she stayed up at night, writing heroic couplets and elegies to notable figures by candlelight. She published her first verse, in the Newport Mercury, at age 13.
While many New Englanders took note of the poet's gifts, no American printer would publish a book by a Black writer. Poems on Various Subjects was eventually financed by Selina Hastings, Countess of Huntingdon, and published in London. As a 19-year-old in 1773, Phillis travelled to the city, escorted by the Wheatleys' son. She was an instant sensation. Her celebrity, along with England's criticism of a new nation that simultaneously subjugated her while comparing its own relationship to the Crown as slavery, led the Wheatleys to manumit her in 1774.
A keen observer, Phillis frequently wrote about significant moments in America's fight for independence, carefully walking a fine line between being overtly political or critical of the colonial government as a Black woman. As a 14-year-old in 1768, she praised King George III in the poem To the King's Most Excellent Majesty for repealing the Stamp Act. Two years later, in On the Death of Mr. Snider Murder'd by Richardson, she memorialised the killing of 12-year-old Christopher Snider by a Massachusetts-born Loyalist during a protest over imported British goods.
Soon after, in 1770, a skirmish between Colonists and British soldiers erupted in front of the Old State House, not far from where Phillis lived on King Street, culminating in the Boston Massacre. Today, a circle of granite pavers, its bronze letters dulled by age and thousands of footsteps, marks the spot where blood was spilled. Following the incident, Phillis was inspired to write the poem On the Affray in King Street, on the Evening of the 5th of March, 1770.

Scholars estimate that Phillis produced upwards of 100 poems. Because her work makes few references to her own condition and is often couched in Christian concepts and the extolling of popular figures of the day, she has sometimes been dismissed as a white apologist.
Ade Solanke, a writer and Fulbright Scholar whose play Phillis in London will be performed in Boston later this year, said, "I think the biggest misconception about her is that she wasn't an abolitionist. You think of Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, people who were explicitly condemning slavery and going to war against it. But the act of writing poetry as a Black woman in this time period was pretty radical."
Wendy Roberts, a University at Albany professor who recently discovered a lost Wheatley poem in a Quaker commonplace book in Philadelphia, agrees. "I don't think any deep reader of Wheatley comes away thinking she's an apologist. She was asserting herself, her agency, her wish for freedom, her presence as a person."
Most buildings in Boston with a direct connection to Phillis' life no longer stand. Some were razed by a pair of fires in the 18th and 19th Centuries, and others have been replaced by urban renewal in the mid-1900s. The Old South Meeting House, a stately Georgian red-brick church built in 1729 and tucked between glass-and-concrete skyscrapers on Washington Street, is an exception. Besides being Phillis's place of worship, it was a cradle of philosophical debate, and served as planning headquarters for the Boston Tea Party. It now operates as a museum, with a statue of the poet flanked by exhibits on other ground-breaking figures from the pre- and post-Revolutionary eras.
The Old South Meeting House where Phillis worshipped is one of the few buildings in Boston that remain with a connection to her life (Credit: Ian Dagnall/Alamy)
The writer almost certainly strolled through 50-acre Boston Common, the country's oldest public park (and site of the newly unveiled, and controversial, statue honouring Civil Rights icons Martin Luther King and Coretta Scott King). Phillis may have conducted the Wheatley family's shopping at Faneuil Hall, once the city's main marketplace for household goods – and located next to where enslaved people were once sold. It's now a retail centre, where visitors can pick up souvenirs, sample a variety of foods, or take a tour with a guide outfitted in 18th-Century breeches, waistcoat and tricorne hat.
Some experts speculate that Phillis participated in funeral processions for Snider and the five victims of the Boston Massacre, in which their coffins were paraded from Faneuil Hall to the Granary Burying Ground – also the final resting place of Revolutionaries like Samuel Adams, John Hancock and Paul Revere. Sombre and quiet, the cemetery bears more than 2,000 slate, greenstone and marble gravestones, many carved with traditional Puritan motifs like blank-eyed death's heads and frowning angels.
Phillis, who died in poverty after developing pneumonia at age 31, is thought to be buried in an unmarked grave, with her deceased newborn child, at Copp's Hill, in Boston's North End neighbourhood. An elegant statue of her, alongside renderings of women's rights advocate Abigail Adams and abolitionist Lucy Stone, holds court over the Commonwealth Avenue Mall. This year, when a replica of the Dartmouth sails into the Boston Tea Party & Ships Museum on Griffin's Wharf, it will host a permanent exhibit on the poet.
In addition to a statue of Wheatley at the Boston Women's Memorial, a second statue of her is located inside the Old South Meeting House (Credit: Robin Catalano)
Phillis's legacy is perhaps best experienced in the work of contemporary artists. As part of the 250th anniversary celebrations, Revolution 250, a consortium of 70 organisations dedicated to exploring Revolutionary history, will host a variety of performances and exhibits, including a full-scale re-enactment of the Tea Party on 16 December. Several events will honour the poet, among them a photography exhibit by Valerie Anselme, who will recreate Phillis' frontispiece that adorned the original publication of Poems on Various Subjects.
Artist Amanda Shea, who frequently hosts spoken word events and poetry readings around the city, explained that, in many ways, she is carrying on a legacy pioneered so long ago. "I feel like I'm part of the continuum of Phillis Wheatley. It's really important to be able to write and tell our stories. It's our duty as artists to reflect the times in which we live."

✨ .. 🪔 .. March 21 .. as the World celebrates the welcoming of Spring .. we here in our little World of the Ef celebrate the birthday of .. the Boss from USA 🇺🇸 , Ef Meenu Gupta , the lovely mad Punjaban .. Ef Sikandar Khan 🇮🇳 .. Ef Ipshita Kajuri from Bangladesh 🇧🇩 .. and Ef Rehaab Abd El Hamed aka Ropaa , the lovely flower girl from Egypt 🌺🇪🇬 ✨ ..may this auspicious day be ever in continuity and love .. from the family Ef
... and the unseasonal rain, raineth every day almost in Mumbai .. the early morning vision through the doors and windows be of surprise, at the most and then the worry of the water proofing and the fear of unprotected leakages as construct work is initiated over the residences ..
unseasonal doth create several issues with the crops and the farmers over the State .. the rains come by June and July at the advent of the Monsoon .. but for the past few days it has beaten all regular arrivals and presented itself here and now .. it cooleth .. it bring succour to some and misery to the other .. the unpreparedness is the value that it brings .. and that be the mission of life and its challenge .. to be not unprepared ..
Nature though runs its own system .. social , moral, political, scientific .. ALL .. and none be the warriors that dare to battle it .. victory be theirs always .. the supreme , the unknown , the divine is the victor ever ..
So .. stepping up the desire to be back to work it was presentable to be able to move about to the work place , to judge assess the condition .. both of the rib and the toe .. and the faith that guides us to proclaim that ‘so long as there is life there is struggle’ .. keeps upon us like the work bag slung over shoulders on most of the gentry these days .. travel , work place , office , all .. just about everyone everywhere is shouldered with the essential .. a convenient tool for all the accessories .. and they be many in the days of today ..
More of this later ..
But now immediately a request ..
There is a poll being conducted for the Sports Honours in our region and our dear Abhishek’s Kabaddi Team , the Jaipur Pink Panthers, which won the Championship , is in the three top nominations .. and the polling STOPS today .. so lets show our support via Family Ef .. and put in our numbers too ..
QUICK .. polling stops TODAY .. today is the last DAY .. !!!
its on the net and social media and this be the link :

As I welcome in many the comments of the Ef in their effort of togetherness and family I also commend all that helped in tracing the video and pictures that I desired .. it was for a cause that needed attention and I am so happy that the cause appreciated it limitlessly .. soon there shall be the reason for this cause and I am certain that many in the Ef family would clamour to be the recipients of the reason and cause .. soon to be executed ..
And the wonder Ef who subjects me to ease and comfort in my work informs that it is World Poetry DAY .. and quotes Babuji’s translated Autobiography for the benefit of us all ..
“Even today it is only while composing poetry that I know a state of mind in which all mental powers are centred: an absorption, an engrossed concentration and complete forgetfulness of self, which I have begun to think of as Samadhi, meditative abstraction.”
“When I live in my feelings - living feelings through art with greater intensity and depth than is possible otherwise - then I am dead to the world.”
“My poetry is something that rises directly from my feelings, and I had not thought that others would also find their own feelings reflected there. It was not my intention to introduce some school based on a specific principle, to enunciate some philosophical idea, to initiate some revolution, or to throw down a challenge to Chhayavad, the established poetic school of the time; but such things have increasingly been identified in my poetry. The label 'Halavad', 'the Poetry of the Vine' that was applied to my poetry from the very beginning, simply differentiated it from Chhayavad; but if Chhayavad was a literary genre, then my poetry should be dubbed 'Jivanvad', 'the Poetry of Life', a direct expression of life lived, enjoyed and endured.”
There is an entire universe that has been explored thought about and expressed in all the works of my father Dr Harivansh Rai Bachchan and there is very little attention appreciation or effort been made to present it for research and analysis ever .. this is a need and a priority for not just me and my family, but for the World of Literature and life ..
And every effort that can be made in my humble capacity shall be done , I do hope and pray .. for its completion and fructification ..
He deserved more .. much more ..
But as is wont , genius is ever recognised only after they have left .. that is the most painful reality ..
May there be peace and love all about ..
Amitabh Bachchan
