And if my first post for the new year is a redo of my original lineup to fit the MCs per category? What then dfougsufgsf
Again this is inspired by @cassiopeiacorvus' lineup which just seems to grow more mad respect to you omgg
I'll also do my best to explain the character design and body language I used since this is how they appear at the start of their stories!
Evangeline Marie G. (Guzman) Lakandula
I went with this very conservative style due to her being raised very sheltered and when she was younger her family always put value to how they appeared to the rest of the clan and I really wanted to make sure that it's clear that it stuck with her even after she ran away from her father and sister
White is meant to be this colour of purity but it also makes it less hot so long as the fabric isn't too thick
Body language is closed off and almost looks like she's trying to always comfort or embrace herself due to a lot of insecurities and a hard childhood
She doesn't mess with her hair at the start as she doesn't see a reason for it nor has the motivation to do anything beyond keeping her hair loose or the occasional ponytail
Flats because it's easier to use a bicycle and also since she doesn't think heels would suit her
The only constant thing I shouldn't forget to keep drawing is the necklace which I now turned into a locket. In there is a photo of her grandparents since it was her grandmother's locket before her death
Kara Urduja D. (Dimasupil) Madlangbayan
Say thank you Metro Manila Film Festival for showing The Kingdom aka a movie about an uncolonised Philippines for giving me some clues on how to work with a modernised take on something like that
So I axed off Rutherland and went with a slightly colonised part of the archipelago that reclaimed its independence before Spain fully sunk its claws into the country. Thus the small country known as Dimaapi was founded. They speak deep Tagalog and have little to no Spanish loan words but they could speak English cause it's necessary
Urduja was named after the Pangasinense princess Urduja/Udaya, and it's a name chosen by their mother to remind them of their worth. In the old stories, Urduja announced she would only marry one who is greater than her in battle and wisdom, so their mother wanted them to settle for no less than that.
Has a complicated relationship with their mother cause it feels more like they're a bargaining chip and prop for their mom's campaigns
Urduja keeps their hair short for management reasons but the first time they cut their hair it was a bit of a scandal since it's like they took away their own pride
They went to Manila once and saw modern barongs and got very fond of it that that's their go-to fashion now
Wears heels cause they like feeling tall
A bit uncomfortable with their role as First Child hence the body language and have a tendency to put their weight on one foot a lot of the time
Maya Chelidonia C. (Caacbay) dela Rosa
They actually sometimes do go on their tiptoes unconsciously, it happens as a way to think over things and they don't even notice. Mafalda learned to just accept it
Wears flats for workplace-appropriate reasons, their go-to is something respectable looking so they could be taken seriously
Ties their hair in a low bun like back in their police days back in the Philippines as something familiar but also practical
No makeup beyond a tinted lip balm their younger sister sent over to stop them from picking their lips
Likes coffee but it's more of like sweet stuff just to stay awake. Prefers Kopiko tho and black forest milktea
Delores Faustina A. (Abad) Hilario
Babie darling girl who's confident in herself and is trying her best in college
Does a lot of volunteer work back at the Philippines and is known by her old school friends to have waded through deep floods to aid very flooded areas during typhoon season
Asked her mom to dye her hair before she went to college
Rings are her comfort item and will wear a lot on different fingers (they're costume rings but it's the feeling of it that's more important)
Likes to wear skirts of varying styles unless she's told to wear pants
Emma Dolores A. (Acda) Dalit
Here's my Freshman MC all grown up and here she dyed her hair a lil bit since she liked the colour and thought it would look good on her
She stopped writing her novels and fairytales after her messy breakup with James, her grandmother's death, her leaving Hartfeld and later on her grandfather's death so she focused more on journalism after a course switch and became a political journalist
She became known as someone who interviewed King James Liam Rhys and Queen Evangeline Marie Lakandula-Rhys for a special interview
Is very work obsessed that she sleeps only four hours despite her siblings' growing concerns
Still wears pinks but stopped with the floral prints
Dyed her hair a deep red brown shade since she thinks she looks good with it
Now wears her grandmother's pink pearl necklace
While she doesn't say it, she still secretly writes short stories but she no longer talks about them
Fell out of touch with Edgar who noticed her stopping in writing

My favorite shows and movies that i've watched in 2023
Barbie (2023)
Tumblr media
Always been a sucker for great production and costume design. Feminism aside, it’s so fun and smart with all the references. I just don’t like the Ken hype. He’s fun, sure, but a lot of fans are missing the point or just proving the message of the story.
Bottoms (2023)
Tumblr media
Need more lesbian chaos as a comedy fan. Sapphic softcore is ok of course, but you know, there should be a variety of WLW cinema. Perfect also for the Y2K nostalgia. ‘Bring It On’ fan here!
Nocebo (2022)
Tumblr media
I actually watched it last year, but it was too late to be on my 2022 list. Underrated political-horror film. Underrated cast! It should’ve had the same hype with Parasite and Triangle of Sadness. For me, it was simple and well-written. The structure of the story was smart but easy to absorb.
About Us But Not About Us (2022)
Tumblr media
The first and last single-location film that I watched was Kisaragi (2007) and I’ve been waiting for something like that since then. One of the most important things i look for a media is the script so i really enjoyed it especially when they switched characters. Very intriguing.
The Little Mermaid (2023)
Tumblr media
Been waiting for this since 2019! I’ve been a fan of Halle Bailey since that announcement. I rarely watch things on the cinema, but it’s something i couldn’t miss. Beautiful, pure and magical. Perfect casting and amazing chemistry!
Si Chedeng At Si Apple (2017)
Tumblr media
Another chaotic lesbian film, but make it Filipino! It was funny and bloooody just like Bottoms so if you liked it then you should try this one. Not a spoiler, but part of the plot: That lady in yellow killed her abusive husband.
Maria Clara At Ibarra (2022)
Tumblr media
I haven’t finished it yet! But i would recommend it! Brought back my trust and love for Filipino series. If you are not Filipino, it’s a good way to learn our history. Fun, written with passion + great set and costume design.
Mga Lihim Ni Urduja (2023)
Tumblr media
After Maria Clara at Ibarra, i became more interested in Filipino series especially with historical fiction. This one is so underrated and empowering! Has the prettiest and hottest cast tbh and a queer undertone *wink*
Betcin (2021)
Tumblr media
I have to say that this is the best Filo GL/WLW so far. It has an actual interesting story and interesting characters. Both leads are toxic AF, but it was sooooo entertaining. Top tier chemistry. Top tier acting!
Tumblr media
Swarm (2023)
As a Beyhive, i don’t really like how they chose us coz there are more crazy fandoms out there, but still watched and finished it because of Dominique Fishback. SHE IS AMAZING. She deserves awards for this portrayal alone.
Ang Babae Sa Septik Tank 3: The Real Untold Story of Josephine Bracken (2011)
Another mockumentary that is to die (of laughter) for! I’ve always wanted to finish the trilogy, but i started with this because of history. Frustratingly funny. I don’t know if i would root for her or not lmao
The ultimatum: Queer love (2023)
I admit, watching reality shows is my guilty pleasure so imagine my excitement when it’s full of queer women??? The dramaaaa lmao i need more seasons of just sapphics. It’s also a cool and chaotic concept tho. I thought it was just a normal dating show at first.
Physical 100 (2023)
This is my kind of reality show! I hope it will have multiple versions from different countries. The best thing about it is how fitness is really measured by getting competitors from different backgroundsand giving them different challenges.
Rookie (2023)
The most anticipated movie of the Filipino sapphics! And if you’re a volleyball fan? I’m sure this would be automatically on your list. It’s just so cute and wholesome.
Ladies First: A story of women in Hip Hop (2023)
Must watch! Not only for the history of the rap girlies, but to trace back the struggles they faced and are still facing. You might discover talented women to stan in your music or lyrical style too.

In the philippines, the Moroccan traveller Ibn Battuta was well loved bc one of the princesses he mentioned in his stories, Princess Urduja, the warrior, was thought to be from the Philippine mandala of Pangasinan. His travels are something that always fascinated me- it was nice reading about the medieval world outside of Europe, from the eyes of someone who was an Islamic scholar- far removed from the European world.
Thinking about how during the black plague was one of the worst times to be Jewish in Europe, because, oh well, everytime a calamity in Europe happens, Jews were always the first to become the scapegoats.. but when Ibn Battuta travelled to Syria, where the black plague had spread as well, all he saw were Christians, Muslims and Jews praying together, parading in the streets holding up copies of the torah, the quran and the bible- Europeans viewed the bubonic plague as something they needed to atone for- so they ended up massacring their Jewish populations, but in places like Damascus, it was seen as something one must withstand, or one of G-d's Unknowable ways- No one needed to "pay"- community must endure. I don't know! This is just something I think about a lot.

“I’m here,” she vowed into his smooth, overheated skin. “I’m not going anywhere.” A sound between a groan and a hitch of breath caught in his throat. The hand on the small of her back rubbed compulsively, tracing the notches of her spine, and his arm tightened around her. His other hand tangled in her hair. “I couldn’t kill that rebel.” It was a choked, bewildered rumble in her ear. “One word from you and I let my guard down. I couldn’t kill you, either, all those times before … What am I, if I’m not a weapon? What have you done to me?” It shouldn’t have mattered what he was saying, trapped as his consciousness was in valerian dregs. But there was a kernel of truth in his bleak questions. This time the voice that crept into Talasyn’s head was not Urduja’s, although it was definitely telling her what Urduja would have taken away from the situation. He cares what you think. It was Talasyn’s own inner voice, from some dark part of her. You can use this. -A Monsoon Rising by Thea Guanzon

Urduja designed by Bella Filipina Designs.
On its 8th year anniversary, Bella Filipina Cross Stitch Designs is proud to present its 50th design -
URDUJA BF 050
“She appears like a light in the darkest of nights. Her golden tail and amber scales radiate like the sun. Bare of the battle armor, she is clad with nothing but ropes of the rare South Sea pearls, and glowing against her bronze skin, golden treasures befitting a royalty. A tribute to the legendary warrior princess Urduja, she is an embodiment of strength and power like the Amazons of old. Her name, Sanskrit for rising sun, is synonymous with golden light and victories. Her beauty, a celebration of women and their diversity.”
Stitch Count: 157x293 Stitches
Taking inspiration from the pre-colonial Philippines, when gold was abundant and part of our ancestors’ everyday lives, this golden release is a celebration of what Bella Filipina is all about - our rich heritage, our different cultures, and the diverse beauty, not only of Filipinas, but of women around the world.

Urduja
Urduja was a legendary warrior princess recorded in the travel accounts of Ibn Battuta. She was described to be a princess of Kaylukari in the land of Tawalisi. Though the locations of Kaylukari and Tawalisi are disputed, in the Philippines, Urduja is believed by modern Filipinos to be from Pangasinan, and has since been regarded as a national heroine.
Born: 1304
Died: 1400

URDUJA // PRINCESS OF KAYLUKARI
“She was a legendary warrior princess recorded in the travel accounts of Ibn Battuta (1304 – possibly 1368 or 1377 AD). Her army was composed of men and women. Urduja was a woman warrior who personally took part in the fighting and engaged in duels with other warriors. She was quoted as saying that she will marry no one but him who defeats her in duel. Other warriors avoided fighting her for fear of being disgraced. Urduja impressed Ibn Battuta with her military exploits and her ambition to lead an expedition to India, known to her as the "Pepper Country." She also showed her hospitality by preparing a banquet for Ibn Battuta and the crew of his ship. Urduja generously provided Ibn Battuta with gifts that included robes, rice, two buffaloes, and four large jars of ginger, pepper, lemons, and mangoes, all salted, in preparation for Ibn Battuta's sea-voyage to China.”
