Urban Events: Royal Coils Natural Hair Expo

We all love our hair right? Especially in it’s natural form. Whether you wear it straight or curly, we have all vowed to say no to chemical hair treatments and hard hair products. The natural hair movement is grand, plus its a beautiful site to see. A and I even spoke about it on #TheSocialSistaPod check that out here.

I was able to attend the Natural Trendsetters’ Royal Coils Natural Hair Expo in Ft. Lauderdale at the Westin Hotel. Natural Trendsetters is a one of many leading natural hair salons in South Florida, so them hosting and producing a natural hair expo makes all the sense. The natural hair community has become one of the fastest growing industries in the beauty. Being able to see black women at forefront of this flourishing industry is phenomenal. Being amongst all the beauty entrepreneurs and naturalistas gave me such inspiration and pride.

I’ve stated before I’m a hair product junkie. Being able to test different products and trying new ways to style your hair was a heavenly space for me. The hair expo had brands like Taliha Waajid, Uncle Jimmy, Alikay Naturals, Natural Trendsetters and many more. Not many hair demonstrations were performed as expected but there were a few that I noticed. A few panels were held as well but one I was able to catch was the “Sisterhood Girl Boss Panel” which features amazing women-prenuers that have made a mark within the natural hair industry. The audience was able to hear great advice from Rocehlle Graham, Valencia and Denise Jones, 2FroChicks, The Stirrup Sisters and Simone and Yanique Hylton ( founders of Natural Trendsetters). All women have profitable businesses that was curated for the hair industry from their own interests that then became opportunities to inspire other women. The Royal Coils Natural Hair Expo was hit this year just as it was last year. Might I add the host, Ms. Ingrid B, added so much electricity to the room to help it be a genuine space for everyone who attended. If you missed it this year, it’s a must to attend next year.

I attend and report on these Urban Events in the community to help get the word out to my peers. Yes you all! It’s important we connect and support at these events because its all for us to enjoy. I feel it’s a duty of mine to connect you all to the events that are curated for the community and our culture. Let me add we must respect each other in time, business, and networking. It’s the only way to expand the business to help expand the community.
