Urban Crave – a comfort airport BCW while crash planning

This BCW wasn’t on the traditional menu, but Fergie & I sat down at a Houston airport bar with 45 minutes to figure out where to sleep in Belize, and when I said “gosh, I wish you guys had a buffalo chicken wrap” the bartender said, “sure we can do that for you, no problem.” And I knew everything would be just grand.

THE SCORECARD:

Overall: 7/10

Chicken: fried in chunks

Sauce: probs could have used more spicy sauce

Chicken to vegetable ratio: french fries were IN the wrap, creating a totally new ratio!

Wrap: average, not tightly wrapped so everything fell apart and I used a fork

Temperature: room

Side(s): as stated above, fries were IN the wrap! Which was great. But meant no sides.

I flew out of the San Diego Airpot on a Sunday afternoon and was shocked on how it was not busy in the least! TSA confirmed that Sunday afternoon was a great time to fly out because there is barley ever any traffic at this time. I flew out of Terminal 1 and my husband out of Terminal 2.  First thing you need to know is there is only 1 option to grab a cocktail before you go through security. It is close to Terminal 1′s entrance to gates 11-18. It is a typical little airport bar nothing special. I would skip it to get through security and get to the gates.

Terminal 1

Compared to other airports there was not but 1 option for cocktails and food on the other side but what a jewel it was. URBAN CRAVE - Authentic Street Cuisine is the spot. I grabbed a spot at the bar and had my bartender asking for my drink order shorty after. Peter was his name and he was a rare find in Airport bars. He got my name from my ID and addressed me by it for the rest of the time I sat. With the amount of people that go through places like these I truly appreciate a bartender that doesn't act like Im just a passer though. 

I got a Big Boy BLT which was huge and pretty damn good. Lots of bacon, good bread and definitly worth a $10 price tag. I just grabbed a beer, although their bloody Mary looked legit. They also serve 22oz cans of PBR in a paper bag which is also something I admire. 

This place was very busy and open so you had a lot to watch behind the counter. Definitly could of done without a handful of employees bitching about how busy they were. I mean really... it is the only place to eat with a bar in the terminal, you are going to be busy so get over it and act like your comrade behind the bar.

Don't waist anytime on the outside of TSA If you are in terminal 1 go straight to Urban Crave and find Peter If you are in Terminal 2 (more information to come)
